This is Tubbo. Ranboo promised to give this letter to you, and assuming they don’t forget, hopefully it appears to you safe and sound. L’Manburg is well. I’ve been keeping your house clean while you’re gone. Ranboo and Fundy have built an ice cream shop, and Puffy and Niki have begun a small flower business. Don’t tell Ranboo, but the ice cream is mediocre at best. It’s too sweet. You’d probably like it more than I do. Maybe Ranboo will bring you some.

tommy looked at the letter in his hands, shaking as he read it. he didn’t know what to believe, if he could believe tubbos words at all. his inner child, the one who craved the other boys friendship and affection once again, screamed at him to believe it, while his heart and his brain refused.

“some friend. can’t even visit,” he mumbled, forcing himself not to cry. he shoved the letter in his pocket, and went to curl up in his house.

I hadn't talked about dsmp in MONTHS but I found an old ficlet in my notes, so here you go:

(Summery: Ranboo has been busy getting used to the server. He and Fundy have a chat.)

Ranboo helped Tubbo collect wood for most of the afternoon when he finally took a break and set by the path. Tubbo was still on the clock, said he wasn't tired.

"Hi there!" Fundy startled Ranboo's train of thought. He greeted him back.

"Seeing something you like?" Fundy set down by him.

"What? Um, I'm just taking a break a bit. Not used to chopping trees that much, I guess."

"What are you building?"

"Tubbo wants to collect bees, so I'm helping him build a dome for them. Why are you here?"

"Just on my way to collect snow." He gestured to the shovel he's holding.

"Why?"

Fundy looked at him. "A shop."

"You're building a snow shop?"

"The ice cream shop!"

Ranboo shot up his gaze. "Oh! I completely forgot! I'm so sorry."

Fundy waved his hand. "Meh, it's fine. You seem to be busy lately."

"Tubbo has a lot of ideas."

Fundy rised his brow. "You've just been hanging a lot."

"Yeah, I guess. He keeps inviting me on his projects." Ranboo smiled.

"He seem to take an interest in you."

"Does he?"

Fundy thought for a second. "I don't remember him letting people in on his builds. He was always an “I can manage.„ type. But maybe it's the presidency that got him used the a crowd."

Hasted footsteps walked along the path. Quackity stood above them looking around. He spotted Tubbo and quickly walked to him, stack of papers in his hand.

"I think he does take interest in me." Ranboo said after thinking it through.

Fundy swinged his tail curiously. "You think he likes you?"

"What?! No. I mean-" Ranboo struggled. "I think I'm comforting for him. Maybe it's because I'm someone who doesn't know what he's been through?"

"How do you know he's been through something?"

"You don't get scars from nothing."

"Right." Fundy's ear fell flat. "Almost forgot about those."

They looked at Tubbo again, talking to Quackity about something important, pointing at different papers and fidgeting with his tie.

"But he makes me feel comfortable too."

"How so?"

"It feels like he understands. I mean, you and Niki care and you're good friends! But when he sees I'm in distress, even if he doesn't know what to do, there's a kind of sympathy, like he knows how I feel. And he wants to help, to make sure I'm feeling better."

Quackity nodded at Tubbo and started to walk off with the papers. Tubbo stretched his back and got back to wood chopping, somewhat forcefully now.

"He just really cares, you know?"

"Not really." Fundy said grimly.

Ranboo looked at him. His eyes were dazed, focused on nothing in the distance. "Do you not have someone who cares?"

He meant that innocently but Fundy shot him a look. He quickly averted his eyes.

Fundy got up and back to the path. "Anyway RanBOOB-" Ranboo groaned. "I'll get back to my snow. See ya' around."

Last to know

Fundy learns the truth on a late afternoon.

“....and now that Ranboo’s dead, we no longer have to…,” Quackity explains and Fundy’s heart drops.

“What?”

Quackity interrupts himself to stare at Fundy. “The Casino opening,” he repeats. “Tuesday. I told you that yesterday already.”

“No, Ranboo’s what?”

“Dead.” Quackity sounds impatient. Brusque. Like he’s talking about customers being an annoyance, not about the death of a person.

“When?” Fundy asks and he’s not sure if he could have formulated the entire question.

“A while ago. You really haven’t been around, huh.”

“I wanted….distance,” Fundy forces himself to say and his mouth feels like it’s burning.

“During the breakout,” Quackity explains offhandedly. “Sam killed him. Turns out he didn’t have that many canon lives after all!”

He laughs a little and Fundy’s veins fill with ice.

“Why, was he important to you? I don’t remember you two being close.”

Fundy swallows around the taste of ice cream and silly summer days.

“We were in the same cabinet, Quackity,” he reminds the other.

Quackity laughs again and this time it’s bitter.

“You do remember he was a traitor, right?”

Traitor.

The word echoes in Fundy’s ears and leaves him frozen in place just like during the election, after the explosion, during doomsday.

Traitor.

Quackity had called Ranboo that, he remembers, just before the TNT hit. Schlatt spit the word at Tubbo, back during Manberg, when Fundy was too weak to do anything but cower in fear.

Wilbur had yelled it, spit flying and the shadow of his coat making him feel more threatening, when Fundy had tried to join Pogtopia.

“Aren’t we all?” he mumbles, before he can stop himself.

“What did you say?” Quackity asks and the cold tone of his voice instinctively makes Fundy flinch, expecting bottles to fly at any moment.

“It doesn’t matter.”

The words taste bitter on his tongue, like defeat and sour ash in the aftermath of a war they could never have won.

Quackity looks at him, eyes clouded with something Fundy can’t read anymore, and then tension bleeds from his shoulders. “Alright,” he says softly. “You want to take the day off?”

“Is there anything you need me to do?”

“Not really,” Quackity admits. “The opening preparations are going smoothly and you’re not needed right now.”

“Good. Thanks.”

Fundy doesn’t wait until he’s dismissed and Quackity lets him leave without another word.

It’s not true that he and Ranboo are friends.

It was true once upon a time ago, in that glorious, golden period of time where Quackity had not yet had the scar and Tubbo hadn’t yet been crushed under the weight of a presidency he never should have inherited and Wilbur had been dead underground. Eret had still been around, Niki hadn’t yet hidden her soft core behind iron walls and Fundy himself…he’d still been able to sleep.

He remembers the ice cream shop. It’d been harmless fun back then, unlike the Burger Van currently at the borders of Las Nevadas.

Their friendship didn’t last long. It died amidst the broken ruins of both of their former home while the TNT was still falling.

Fundy doesn’t like to think about that conversation and the bitterness that comes with it. Even more now that he knows Ranboo moved in with Phil and Techno after they’d screamed about their feelings and shattered their former bond even more thoroughly than Phil and Techno did to L’Manberg.

Ghost dirt clings to his hands. Did Phil enjoy the replacement grandson while he lasted, after the first one turned out to be such a disappointment?

Fundy’s feelings on Ranboo are complicated but still, he would have liked to at least know. He’s used to being the last thought, being forgotten about, being left behind - after all, if not even your own family cares to remember you, then who would? - but usually at least somebody remembered.

He doesn’t expect much.

Tubbo and Quackity would have known that he knew Ranboo, even if they didn’t remember they used to be close.

Phil could have used it as a reason to visit his grandson.

Eret would have been notified as the Ruler of the Dream SMP.

Niki used to tell him all about what the rest of L’Manberg was up to.

He laughs, a bit shrill and bitterness and resignation dripping from the sound in equal measure.

Guess he’s overestimating his own importance after all.

Pokémon Teams

Since I’m playing Light Platinum rn, I couldn’t help but think what Pokémon teams c!Wilbur, c!George, and c!Fundy will have + notes of other characters’ Pokémons but I don’t have that full of an idea to really write them down and quite frankly my mind can really only focus on dads!wiggy + sondy.

Fundy

Teddiursa - First Pokémon. He got this one as a gift from Wilbur. If you’re wondering why I gave him this one in particular, well it’s an inside joke (because I love the idea of Wilbur being Wilbear—) and it’s a cute Pokémon and I feel Wilbur would give Fundy a cute Pokémon instead of something cooler or stronger.

Nickit - Second Pokémon. He shares this one with Niki. This one is in reference to Fungi, who was Niki and Fundy’s pet fox who Sapnap killed. Hopefully the Pokémon fairs better lmao.

Litten - Third Pokémon. Litten’s a cat Pokémon which is a reference to cc!Fundy’s actual cat, Boots. Plus, Litten is a Fire Type and I think Fundy should have a fire type because he has to burn the L’Manburg flag down.

Honedge - Fourth Pokémon. This one isn’t really Fundy’s Pokémon, this is actually Schlatt’s Pokémon that Fundy decided to take after Schlatt’s death, as a reference to the Shclatt Sword. Ignore the Pokedex entry...

Darkrai - Fifth Pokémon. Well... not exactly Fundy’s Pokémon, but it more or less decides to stay near Fundy. This is in reference to Fundy’s reoccurring nightmares and Darkrai is known to cause nightmares.

Alolan Vulpix - Sixth Pokémon. This one is a reference to Yogurt.

Wilbur

Murkrow - First Pokémon. He got this one as a gift from Phil because crow. Wilbur also uses his Murkrow to send letters to Phil.

Toxtricity - Second Pokémon. A reference to cc!Wilbur being a musician because the Gigantamax form has an electric guitar.

Ursaring - Third Pokémon. The second part to the inside joke in giving Fundy Teddiursa, because Wilbur being a Papa Bear type of guy... at first.

Golem - Fourth Pokémon. So there are other Pokémon that have the move Self-Destruct, but most of them didn’t really vibe with Pogtopiabur other than Golem. It’s also known to be immune to dynamite explosions and Wilbur did blow up Manburg... and he survived the explosion. So, I feel Golem fits more with his character.

Wooloo - Fifth Pokémon. Not really Wilbur’s Pokémon since this is supposed to be Ghostbur’s Pokémon, as a reference to Friend.

Ho-Oh - Sixth Pokémon. I know it’s a Legendary Pokémon, but it’s the only Pokémon that canonically can resurrect the dead.

George

Shroomish - First Pokémon. I guess this is also an inside joke, though not by that much since I’m sure everyone already knows Mushroomgy or Mushroom Hybrid! George because of the house he made.

Abra - Second Pokémon. This guy sleeps a lot, so I think he should have Pokémon that sleep a lot or having sleep-inducing abilities.

Jigglypuff - Third Pokémon. A gift from Wilbur, because Wiggy and you can pry this ship out of my cold dead hands. Jigglypuff because it makes you sleep when it sings, so it helps connect to Wil being a musician too.

Hypno - Fourth Pokémon. Another sleep-inducing Pokémon and it eats dreams... the joke is there haha do with that what you will.

Shiinotic - Fifth Pokémon. A mushroom Pokémon but I mostly chose it because of the way it looks... yeah I feel like it fits George’s vibe.

Arceus - Sixth Pokémon. Listen. If god (Dream XD) canonically likes George and considers him a friend, then I think the Pokémon equivalent of god would also like George.

Additional Notes

Ranboo and Fundy having a shared Pokémon, Vanilluxe, but it was left abandoned just like the Ice Cream Shop :)

Phil having a Honchkrow and having a ton of Murkrow that he sometimes gives to other people. He has given Murkrows to Wilbur, Techno, Niki, and Ranboo.

Dream and Tommy also having a Ho-Oh, mostly because Tommy also got revived and Dream technically can revive people so...

Other people that I think would have Legendary Pokémon is Techno, Phil, Foolish, and Tubbo... except Tubbo lost his Legendary Pokémon and no one knows where it is (in reference to the missing nuke).

I thought about Slimecicle, and I am torn from him having a Legendary Pokémon because I think it would be funny... or if he’s just a Ditto.

Only because I find it funny, Dream has a Yamask.

Ok you all know my hype for the Bee Duo meetup  and Bench Trio meetup and, I’m sure this isn’t a hot take, but seeing Ranboo meet so many of his other friends already is making me so happy. 

Like one of the first things I saw Ranboo in was Niki’s hilarious episode of NBH with him and then they livetweeted mcc together when they weren’t in it and he sent her the infamous minecraft drip pyjamas that she’ll always show off if she’s wearing on stream and how Niki was in a vc with him when he was first added to the dsmp.

Same goes for Fundy who immediately took Ranboo under his scamming wing when he joined the dsmp where they made their little ice cream shop and then cogchamp where I would watch them for hours trying to build the fastest mining train and that time Fundy called him on Christmas day all hungover to talk and speak nonsense to him.

And then Wilbur who watches so many of Ranboo’s streams to frequently drop in the mix of joking and sweet messages in chat and admires Ranboo for his interests and ability to talk about anything and how they talked about music together and Wilbur spent time to find Ranboo these perfect song recommendations and how Ranboo immediately added Lovejoy songs to his Travelling playlist when they were released. 

And now they’re all hanging out in Brighton together!! And they’re going shopping and walking along the beach and having sleepovers and meeting Lovejoy and meeting fans and awe man I’m so happy for the lot of them

Reasons why are (in no particular order):

Eret already has a great relationship with ranboo, ranboo frequently watches eret and is comfortable talking to them.

Eret has tried to adopt fundy, meaning they’re completely fine with a parental role and getting him to adopt ranboo wouldn’t be hard

Fundy and ranboo have a great relationship, very bantery and full of friendly teasing, ranboo is comfy around fundy as well, they’re gonna have an ice cream shop! (Siblings pog?)

Also some more shallow and fun reasons:

They’re both tall

Ranboo already has a crown

I like eret, they’re pog

Please, it’d be awesome

The amount of drama that fundy + ranboo would create is too good to pass up

DSMP suburbia au

Phil, retired rich dad whose oldest son lives in his basement and whose youngest son moved out and lives with his best friend in a house across town. Neighbors with Ranboo and Techno. Syndicate book club.

Wilbur came back from college and is now staying in his fathers basement. He is starting his second food truck startup, he cannot cook. He and Tommy no longer get along because wil got tommy involved in a scandal of his last truck and tommy got shot.

Ranboo (18 y/o with the personality of a wine mom) nosey gossip on the board of everything in town, people pleaser but people don’t hate him because they know he isnt spreading twisted rumors. Rich bc parents died, takes care of Michael at home. Book club. He and Tubbo are married because Tubbo is head of town council and Ranboo wanted to go to the events but also they love eachother/p. They adopted michael together.

Tubbo is the head of town council, and he runs the ice cream parlor. Takes care of michael, married to ranboo. Roommates with tommy sometimes but sometimes lives w/ ranboo. He is very political and people sometimes take a bit to realize how smart he is. Stressed af, cannot drive.

Eret runs the historical society (president of the society) and is on town council. Took in fundy he was a part of the gov when dream was mayor and filed info about health concerns for wilburs truck. He hates how that hurt his friendships and blames himself.

Karl runs town archives. He works a bit obsessively to have accounts of all of the things that happen in the town. He also is a people person and likes starting events and getting the town together.

Technoblade is the librarian and leads a protest group (not against town council bc that's a citizen org but the mayor and stuff but also kinda against the council). Book club, neighbors with Phil and Ranboo. He is antisocial and thinks a lot less town orgs are needed.

Jschlatt is mayor, no one likes him. He took over after dream since he was assistant and so just filled the power vacuum. Pro giving money to the strip malls and doesn’t want to fund the town council.

Hannah is the community planner/runs community garden (she is very pro reggs) she wants to help improve the beauty of the town and focus money on that and reggs.

Puffy is a radio journalist - on the historical society board she keeps track of current events. She is related to foolish but not parent child. She often works with the people in the book club when they do more activist things because she believes that more money should be spent on non profit services.

Niki owns the bakery/cafe - in the book club she is not on any of the boards but she is upset that mayoral gov doesn’t disclose any policy before it is put into effect.. She and Puffy flirt but they are not dating. She and jack are also friends

George: insomniac works in the cafe part of Niki’s business. Worked with dream and now wants nothing to do with gov.

Sapnap is a fireman

Quackity owns the Las Nevadas park and shop strip mall and law agency. He is the town financial chair. 

Foolish, architect and contractor, his business is in Las nevadas park and shop.

Charlie: runs Meat Burgers he's from the city and doesn’t understand the suburbia life.

Fundy: tired and lives off of coffee fresh out of college with a fancy fine arts degree and he work at the parking station in the Las nevadas park and shop.

Purpled: project manager, office in LNPAS

Sam: electrician and computer man

Punz: park ranger and the closest thing the town has to police, never around because he barely has a job.

Dream: used to be mayor but after a scandal where it was uncovered that he was using possession of Tommy’s discs to try to get incriminating info on Wilbur and others he was removed from office, he now owns dream burger, everyones least favorite burger joint.

Ponk: runs a restaurant called lemon life (used to date sam before sam made him fall off a fence and break his arm, he now flirts with foolish)

Bad: Runs Reggs Benedict a breakfast place and diner.

Ant: Runs the pet rescue

do you know how good of a set up we've been given? this should've been just the beginning for c!fundy. his father left him behind, entrusting the remains of the country he always loved more than his son to a person he always seemed to love more too. he's got niki and drywaters, except he doesn't and their friendship is in this weird, undefined territory. he needs to patch things up with ranboo because they owned an ice cream shop together and now everything's melting. his father might come back. there might be dreamons. he might just be losing it and that's okay too

I think one of the most underrated and overlooked comedic aspects of DSMP’s chaotic world building is how the one character with the most normal, average job is the fucking fish.

“Foolish builds entire kingdoms and mansions for people, also happened to maybe have taken a job in the past that killed a ton of people, but moving on from that...”

“Sam is a banker, a construction company owner and the warden of the inescapable prison that houses the server’s most dangerous criminal.”

“Puffy was a royal knight, currently a therapist and owner of the local fast food joint that’s in direct competition with a McDonald’s built by God.”

“Oh yeah that’s Dream, the guy in prison. He’s a stripper, former country leader and he helped found the server’s church and main religion.”

“Purpled’s a real estate agent. He’s also a mercenary who’s worked as a hitman for hire.”

“Tubbo has too many jobs to count. He is both a real estate agent and a property-destroyer, an arsonist. He is both a criminal and a lawyer. He is a demon hunter. He is a theropriest who deals in flavors. He sells premium bonds. He worked in the archives of the Romans. He’s built an electric chair for medical experiments that he is professionally licensed in.
