I keep thinking about Merlin’s love for Arthur and how it’s so clearly portrayed in the show to the point that it practically drives the plot of the show. However when it comes to Arthur’s love for Merlin it’s more subtle and sometimes difficult to even grasp, and I started thinking why that was, aside from the obvious fact that Arthur has a lot of trouble expressing his emotions affection or otherwise. I think it also lies in the fact that Merlin knows Arthur intrinsically throughout the show; he is one of the closest people to Arthur, and sees him for who he really is. Arthur admits as much.

Sure, Arthur knows Merlin but the main part of the plot is that he really doesn't know Merlin. Merlin wants him to desperately understand him and “see me for who I am” but he can't yet. And I think this subconsciously creates a barrier in the way in which Arthur can care for Merlin, and how Merlin can let himself be seen by Arthur.

Which is why I think he was also so hurt when the magic reveal happens because more than the betrayal of Merlin having magic, it was the betrayal of Merlin not letting Arthur see him for who he really is and for hiding a main part of himself. Arthur says it himself “why did you never tell me” that’s what hurt him the most.

I think the most damning piece of evidence for this is the fact that while we see snippets of Arthur’s feelings for Merlin thought the show, the biggest signs are in the last episode after the magic reveal; in which he finally gets to understand Merlin, and this time REALLY know Merlin, and as the barriers of what held them back from understanding each other truly fall away, Arthur evidently “falls in love with Merlin all over again”. We see him actually express himself to Merlin.

This is another reason why I think if anyone was ever to create another season of Merlin after Arthur’s return, it’s physically impossible not to make it about Merlin and Arthur acknowledging their feelings for each other. Because there is no way forward without them acknowledging how deeply they care for each other, obviously anyone is free to argue what kind of love that is, but its impossible not to see the deep love there either way.

They always knew they loved each other, just maybe never realising how much and what that means, because its almost second nature to everything that they do.

Met Dan and Phil at Titsons Night 2! Had the best time in the m&g line making friends and trying to not be nervous. Felt so weird because I was following two iconic people before me but it's all good. Talking to Sarah is such a delight. She complimented my sweater and I said thank you and that I wanted to go for a comfy look today.

Walked around the corner on a mission and so happy Dan was first this time because looking at Phil makes my brain decide to not function. I said hello (and didn't say my name because I keep forgetting) They said hi and hugged me. I tell them I wanted them to sign the photo we took at TATINOF DC because it was the first time meeting them and that I now work two blocks away from that theatre. Felt like a full circle moment. Dan said that we should take a photo to update the one from TATINOF. We all look so young. I ask if we can take a full length photo and they said sure. Shout-out to the woman taking the photo as she took multiple even though I'm only posting one. Dan and Phil's team are so kind. Anyways I then ask if they would be willing to do individual photos and they say sure. So Dan takes the one of Phil and I and then of him and I. Very nice. Then I said something so dumb (because I'm running on 3 hours of sleep) and then say BYE!

I forgot to say what I really wanted to say but I'm very happy with how cute we look and how nice Dan and Phil are. They make everything better in this time and I'm so glad they are back. If you get the opportunity to meet or see the show I highly recommend going!

You know, to me it actually would have been really interesting if the catalyst for Mai’s worldview change was her feelings for a boy she DIDN’T end up with. Like I know this is the internet and we’re obsessed with moral purity here, but the realistic truth is that most people have moral revelations that start with something personal that happens to them. Most people need to be personally screwed by the system - or have someone close to them screwed - to have their eyes opened to how bad the system is. And that’s okay.

Getting back to Mai: her sudden turn on Azula has never worked for me because we see no stirrings that she has problems with Azula’s worldview or the Fire Nation at all prior to that. So as cool as the line “I love [him] more than I fear you” is, it doesn’t slap nearly as hard as Ty Lee, who HAS been terrorized by Azula, using her skills to take Azula down, knowing it won’t be good for her. Like I sort of believe that Ty Lee makes amends and slots herself into the Kyoshi warriors because the entire time, she seemed not super on board with Azula. Mai, on the other hand, feels out of place in that last scene when the only moment we’ve gotten of her dissent is the moment she saves Zuko. It’s not enough, by any means, for her to pal around with the gaang.

But it could have been an interesting START to Mai’s story nonetheless, that her feelings for this boy open the door to her recognition that the Fire Nation is in the wrong, that her trust in him is the first thing to break through her casual acceptance of the propaganda she’s been fed all her life. All the more interesting if she and Zuko never get back together because then she has to navigate her changing worldview while also maybe…resenting the connection that spurred it. She’d probably backslide at first, just like Zuko did, but I imagine she wouldn’t be able to fully do it once her eyes had been opened, even a bit. And there’s just a lot of opportunity there, I think, to build Mai out into a more complex character than she ever was in the series, and frankly, I think most of the female characters could use that in ATLA.

i think its very fun to consider the mc as another king like obviously not the same way as the devil kings but in two ways: one being that you are the descendant of the wise king, solomon, and what he had has been inherited by you, but also as in the mc having rule over a very small, but wholly devoted kingdom.

and by that i mean minhyeok.

sure it was a kids game, him swearing his loyalty to you and you ordaining him as your knight, but that kids game became his reality. he is your only subject but he will never leave you. whatever he can do to protect you, he'll jump to it in a heartbeat even if in the end it costs him his life. but a king cannot be a king with no one to rule, which is why when it was your turn to save him there was no hesitation to literally make a deal with the devil to keep him alive. and he will wait as long as it takes until you return and he can be by your side again

Is it me or does it feel like the show is making everyone in Blitzo's life (minus Fizz and Oz. for now at least) hate him/think little of him all because the show seems to have a hate boner and likes to victim blame him? It even feels as if it's written as every one in IMP even hates him now and it's kinda gross honestly considering that for all the reasons for people to be upset at Blitzo for, and for good reasons: him 'wornging' Stolas is not one of them.

Also it feels like the show just wants to beat down Blitzo until he reaches his breaking point and then breaks him down more and more and I'm sorry if the show is about wanting Blitzo grow as a person that's not how you get there.

People get better and change when they're being lifted up not beaten down. Not saying you shouldn't call out Blitzo's behavior, you should he's an asshole at times but he's already a self destructive mess and knows it. And even for all that dickwardry, he does CARE and the show SHOWS us that supposed to TELLING us like they're doing with Stolas when we've seen him do nothing but guilt trip, manipulate and treat those lower than him like shit. He even negligent his own daughter.

Blitzo cares. He cares about his employees, his friends, his family and in a sad way, even for Stolas though not in a romantic way more than he's trying to keep him 'happy' so he doesn't lose his business and livelihood. If he didn't care he wouldn't have gone through all the work in 'spicing up' their sex lives.

So why is the show making it seem like Blitzo is in the wrong for sharing how he feels yet has every right to feel as frustrated and used as he does. But no, he's a monster because he made the creator pet cry.

(on a less ranty note: I have to give credit where credit is due that Brandon Rogers can act! No matter how bad the emotional moments are written at times (which is most), he still sells it.)
