Inktober day 5- Life. A bit of an alien knockoff but with a surprisingly stacked cast, and it has some really fun moments.

I want a movie that starts like Life (2017) except rather than treating Calvin as a monster they approach it more like a nervous dog.

'Okay, we've hurt it and now it's lashing out, how do we de-escalate this situation and convince it that it's safe? How do we take the principles developed for a species we've spent thousands of years domesticating and apply them to a flying Martian squid-starfish? What do we do with the flying Martian squid-starfish after that?'

Life is a decent alien film. The cast are good in their roles and there's a few harrowing sequences plus it has a neat alien critter running amok. It kind of boggles my mind how some people thought back in 2017 that it was a Venom prequel.

Really?” Miranda’s voice is light even as she slips into place beside Kat, studying her quietly for a moment before she finally speaks again. “What starsign?” “Virgo.” Miranda’s smile is soft. “Libra… for what it’s worth.” Kat’s smile is quick and she sighs a little when Miranda pulls the papers away. “I thought you didn’t…” “I don’t.” Miranda’s answer is quick, her smile soft as she reads the horoscope for both of them. “Well, unless by some miracle we get back to earth in two days, these are very wrong…” Kat makes to move, standing to walk away and Miranda’s hand closes at her wrist, pulling her back down and into the bed fully, Miranda’s body curling around her, soft lips finding Kat’s ear. “I’m sorry KitKat…. It’s just not what I expected, you act so… practical…” “Practical would never have moved into this room with you…” Kat’s voice is teasing. “You can be such a brat, NorthStar, you’re lucky I love you.”

Life (not the Martin Lawrence one) is a lot of smart filmmaking and an “Apollo 13 does Alien” vibe that is really exciting only to be somewhat undone by these very capable genius astronauts continuing to make the same stupid mistakes over and over. Do see this but understand what kind of movie it is.

Watching Life 2017 again and can I just say I want a whole movie of this cast in another movie, or atleast Ryan Reynolds and Hiroyuki Sanada again, like I want another movie with both these men.

(Bullet Train doesn't count because they don't interact)

In retrospect, last night as I was watching Ryan Reynolds get consumed from within by the space octopus, I should have said, "I understand exactly how you feel, I haven't been in your particular situation, but I know how I would feel in that situation, and I'm so sorry you're experiencing this inconvenience" (which is a crucial component of the Mint Mobile customer service script) followed by a screenshot of him coughing up blood.

your vision is hazy, brain is fuzzy—but one thing’s for sure, you need him, carnally. your eyes almost light up when you spot the smirk forming at the corner of his mouth, seeing how in awe you are from the slightest touch from him.

“there you are, kiddo” he coos, placing a chaste kiss on your forehead. “there’s my princess.”
