Every year I swear to watch every Oscar nominated film in time for the Oscars and yet I only watch a small handful by the time the annual event rolls by.

What a sad last 24 hours losing both Michelle Trachtenberg and Gene Hackman. One gone way too soon and the other a classic legend passing along with his wife. RIP.

I don't hate the new art style Shrek 5 has, but it's something that will take time getting used to. For me, Donkey's new look felt the most jarring for me.

last song: Half Horse Half Man by OCT. I found this by chance and I can't get this song out of my head now. Certified banger.

last book: Dragon Age: Asunder by David Gaider. I really liked this novel. I've been reading the DA novels and so far this is my favorite of the bunch.

last movie: Cat & Dog (2024). Had I gotten around to doing this prompt sooner I could've put a good movie on this prompt like The Majestic or Miller's Crossing :/. First stinker of 2025 out of the way.

last TV show: Terminator Zero. It's actually pretty good. I had low expectations and was pleasantly surprised.

last thing I searched: '45 days from today'. I was at work and I didn't want to manually count the number of days on my hand so I used bing to check the date before stocking the shelves in dairy with frozen tortillas.

favorite color: red

sweet, savory, spicy: savory

relationship status: single but looking to mingle.

looking forward to: CT HorrorFest, maybe finishing a screenplay draft or two this year, reading the unread books/novels in my personal library, and finishing that Bates Motel house kit I've had sitting in its box in my room.

current obsessions: Australian licorice has a stranglehold on me right now, boutique film collecting (I have the Criterion Collection's 24/7 flash sale next month on the mind), and Godzilla. With Godzilla vs Biollante getting a 4K release from Criterion next month, I have hopes that the rest of the Heist Era films get the same treatment to add to my personal collection. Also, I've been revisiting the Godzilla tribute videos this YouTuber, Ghidorah5464 made and watching video essays on the history of Godzilla fighting games.

Watched my first truly bad movie of 2025 not too long ago. A French/Canadian comedy called Cat & Dog. The plot centers around two pet owners who lose their pets during an airport mishap and work together to find them and vice versa when the film switches to the POV of the animals. It was a rough watch. The movie has an identity crisis. It doesn't know if it wants to be a kid friendly film or something raunchier. The fact that it isn't very funny at all doesn't do it any favors. However, I did get a sensible chuckle out of one character revealing she went broke after going all in on being a 'cat influencer' after a cat video she posted did big numbers online.

Most surreal movie news I heard this month and quite possibly this entire year is that Dwayne Johnson is starring in Martin Scorsese's next movie. Between this and The Smashing Machine, it seems like The Rock is trying to prove he can play other roles beside himself.

I love Martin Landau's performance in The Majestic. Few people on letterboxd bring it up but it's something that stuck with me since watching it as this widower who has his world shaken when in comes an amnesiac who looks so much like his son who went MIA during WWII. And that earnest speech he gives to Peter trying to convince him in reopening the defunct movie theater he owns where he describes actors like Jimmy Stewart and Cary Grant as Gods and the silver screen as Olympus? What of way with words.
