Play Mittsy for Me (Kafka-Robin-Whisperain)

AK/Kinktober 2023, Day 4: “Mitts”

Barring a corridor fly-by with a half-asleep Medical op, the "Movie Night is Changing Venues after Whisperain Asked Can We Move This to Her Room" gang safely Moves It to Her Room, where both guests take a seat on the bed. Ooh, nice place here.

"Kafka," Robin hisses after a while of staring down at her lap and looking like she's shaking apart from the inside. "Quit looking at stuff."

"Where d'ya want me to put my eyes, then? A Kafka's gotta look somewhere," Kafka hisses right back, both keeping it low while Whisperain's in the bathroom undoing her harness.

"Just don't… I dunno, steal anything or something."

"C'mon, that's not the Kafka MO. Besides, what's gotcha watchin' out so hard? It ain't even your stuff."

"Yeah, but it's hers, so!"

Probably filled with nerves from not wanting any rudeness to the nice lady, Robin grabs both Kafka's hands and clasps her claws firmly shut around them. Kafka actively does not appreciate the gesture, alternately prising each forceful paw off while the other reestablishes a grip. "Yannow, it's gonna take more than that to—"

"You may want some assistance to keep her hands contained," preempts a gentle voice from the other side of the room. Kafka halts the grappling, looks over, Robin turns to follows suit. Whisperain's emerged from the bathroom with goodies in tow.

"Are, um, are those boxing gloves?" Robin asks, quickly following it up with "Uh, waitwaitwait, of course not. Um?"

Kafka simply chirps "Watch," shakes Robin off and scoots over some inches so Whisperain can get in close. "Ya sure you don't need these for a patient, Miss?"

"No," Whisperain affirms, softly but adamantly. "The sick should not be made to feel that their treatment comes hand in hand with disrespect—it would crush anyone to be taught that. There are other options in any scenario…" As she speaks, one mitten is affixed, buttoned and tested for a tight fit in moderation, followed by the other. "I assume you're familiar with these in a… recreational setting, Miss Kafka."

"Yeah, somethin' like that." Kafka gives an experimental flex of the fingers, free with a full range of motion inside the mittens but unable to project any grasp through the containment. "Saw 'em in a club once. Anyways, Kafka's happy to report she cannot get her funny li'l hands out."

"Oh, good…" Seems that's a genuine relief to Whisperain. "Well, then, Miss Robin, if you would care to test her?"

"Test? Her? Oh, uh, huh. Guess I could." It's kinda funny to watch Robin hop from confusion to conviction in the span of a few seconds.

Wait, that's not conviction Kafka likes. "Hands offa me."

"The whole freaking point was keeping my hands on you," Robin grumbles, quickly pushing her down by the mitts—okay, shoot, these stupid things are ACTUALLY restraining Kafka and the wrist's way too sturdy to pop the button. She's not getting her hands back in any good way here.

Whatever, still got the entire rest of her body! Kafka kicks and writhes and attempts a headbutt or two, tosses to and fro and even tries bouncing up on her momentum, then has to catch her breath a moment. She's quickly discovering this lockdown on her wrists is giving her no real freedom to bend any which way. Seriously, is two points pinned all Robin needs to get someone this bad?

"Quit… enjoyin' this!" Kafka's beginning to get irate herself. There's a crooked smirk growing on Robin's face, subtle, but it's there and it stinks of satisfaction. "Man, I woulda tried suckin' up to you tonight if I knew you were gonna get this vengeful!"

"Literally, I'm not doing anything, Kafka. You wanna just give up?"

"Aw, screw you and your bodyguard training!" Kafka wriggles a little more, but mittens down against the mattress and options gone, the best she's got is sticking her tongue out and blowing a raspberry.

"…"

A few silent seconds later, Robin sticks out her tongue back. "Okay, NOW I've got it out of my system. Thanks, Miss Whisperain," she says to the nice lady, clambering off.

"Of course. Are you alright, Miss Kafka?"

"Ugh." Kafka sits up mostly steady, although she feels like she almost has to dig her mitts out of Whisperain's bed. "Right as rain. Gonna be honest, that was intense, but I'm ready to get outta these already. We gonna put a thing on Robin next?"

"I imagine if we were taking turns, then it would be hers now," Whisperain chuckles.

"Oh, come on! …Okay, I guess fair's fair."

li'l jinx x-mas

You might think they fixed the continuity error -- except that instead of putting mittens over his bare hands, they put gloves over them. It is the problem that mittens would dissolve his making of a fist.

And suddenly the mittens disappear. But maybe it is a reflection of childhood where you are always losing things.

I never liked mittens. More to the point, did not understand them -- was always stuck asking "Why not gloves?". As a result, I was mentally stuck on the "My Favorite Things" songs -- just one of the items in the song I could not comprehend as a beloved thing. I suppose there oughta have been a lesson there -- different strokes for different folks -- but it was not really presented in that fashion.

Hey Becky, how have you interacted with the other villains, as your civilian identity since your dad is a villain as well? Do other villains sometime come over to discuss business with your dad or ask him for some rays since your dad is pretty tech savvy?

I try my best not eavesdrop....but being that i have super hearing it’s hard NOT to....dad doesn’t mind though. plus sometimes i get to chat with a few other villians. The butcher let me play with his cat and sometimes i go over to his place so alla can have a play date with lil’ mittens! ☆

Thinking about The Butcher's cat Li'l' Mittens. Like in a world where The Butcher actually gets him back.

Specifically about the implications he brings in the context of Food Pyramid.

Like, Butch just invites Chuck and TB to his house one day, completely forgetting that Two-Brains is absolutely *terrified* of cats, and he's just like "Hey guys, this is my kitten :)", and Chuck is like "Awe, how cute :) what do you think Two-Brains?" And he looks over and TB is straddling the back of an armchair, cowaring in fear.

Day 1: (I know it was yesterday but I forgot to post - oops)

Physical and Digital

Here’s the story behind the drawing if you’re interested:

During the half term, I'm rewatching the Owl House. Yesterday, one of the episodes I watched, was "Adventures in the Elements" (when Luz tries to learn a new spell at that snowy place with Eda and the Blight kids) and I just keep thinking that Hunter and Ed frequently meeting at "The Knee" and other snowy locations (?) would be cute. Like if that's where they first met or something and after their first meeting they keep going there. Imagine Hunter going there (also with Li'l Rascal) to study wild magic (after Belos is defeated or in any small spare time he could get - idk the timeline) and he studies the wild magic of the Isles and even other creatures like...Bats! This could be where Edric comes in. Hunter could see some cool bats on a tree and tries to take a closer look. Meanwhile, Edric found a different bat deeper in the snowy forest that he wanted as a pet and ran after it. Coincidentally, (or not?) that bat perches on the tree near Hunter. And because Ed is clumsy (he probably isn't but idk) and ran too fast without looking, he collides into Hunter and they both fall over. Hunter is probably cold at first (get it? Like snow, sorry - bad joke) because some green haired twink ran into him and interrupted his peaceful moment with wild magic or something but they bond through trying to find the bats that were scared away after Ed ran into him. I like to think that they both really like cute animals or something and that Ed thinks that Li'l Rascal is cute. Perhaps initially when they meet up again they start by trying to see wild magic but Ed insists on a snowball fight and Hunter is really good but decides to go easier on Ed otherwise he could actually hurt him. Also Amity and Emira (possibly Luz too) always make fun of Ed about Hunter. At some Amity jokes about how much he’s blushing but Ed totally calls out Mittens on the hypocrisy though and she makes fun of him a little less after that. 

Also, I somehow accidentally got my friend to ship Goldric on the day before Goldric week! I just showed her the picture where I edited the pair blushing in the library (my background) and she thought it was cute. Ever since, we’ve been sharing Goldric headcanons!

Edric trails off when Hunter keeps talking, honestly not all that surprised to hear that Amity and Luz are still out. They really have been spending a lot of time together lately. He just hopes she doesn't take so long it becomes suspicious.

"See, the thing is, I lied for her and said she was at a Coven tryout training session that I'd pick her up from, so I really can't go home until she gets back. Mom and Dad would not buy it if I left to pick her up and then came back empty handed, y'know?

"So I guess you're stuck with me until Mittens shows up!"

Edric leans against the house beside Hunter, subconsciously mimicking his posture. He could swear he knows this kid from somewhere... maybe they go to school together, just in different classes? Or maybe he's a friend of a friend whose face turns up on Penstagram sometimes.

"You got any hobbies, new friend? Anything you like to do or talk about? Or at least a name?"

Ficlet idea for ya: Kravitz and maybe Ango teach Taako to love winter again [TBH he hasn't loved winter since age 11, it's always associated with Bad Times for Taako]

Another fine idea for you: Fluffy Taakitz where Taako catches some vicious 'flu and starts off being a whiny li'l bitch, but Krav is just so CONCERNED that Taako tries to play it down but it's too late, he genuinely feels like hell by then...

I’mma combine the two BOOM

“Yeah, this is unnecessary, I’m gonna go back inside,” Taako said, jerking a thumb back towards the house and shivering. He was wearing a sweater, a coat, a cloak over the coat an enormous scarf, a hat, mittens, and a pair of earmuffs shaped specifically for elven ears. Still his teeth were chattering.

“Awww, please don’t go in yet sir! We’re making a snowman!” Angus said, beaming up at Taako with glittering eyes.

“Look, it’s a snow-Leon,” Kravitz chuckled, drawing a frowny face on the snowman. 

“...okay that is pretty funny, but Taako is freezing his cute little ass off out here so...” Taako turned and was about to head back inside when a snowball collided with the back of his head. 

Taako whipped around, his ears twitching and his eyes folding into a furious glare. Kravitz and Angus immediately pointed at each other. 

“Okay, you’ve done it now,” Taako smirked, pulling a spare wand from his pocket and casting cone of cold on the pair.

“Sorry, sir, but Kravitz and I are expert snowball fighters!” Angus pulled out his own wand and cast a dispell, giving Kravitz time to launch another snowball at his husband. 

The next several hours were spent in all out war: Kravitz and Angus against Taako. It might have seemed like an unfair match, but Angus and Kravitz mainly stuck to snowballs while Taako was casting spells left and right. At one point Garyl showed up and kicked a snowbank over onto the pair. Kravitz and Angus popped out of the pile like fresh flowers and laughed so hard tears came to their eyes.

“Give up?” Taako smirked from his perch on a nearby tree branch.

“Alright, we surrender!” Kravitz put his hands in the air. “Please oh merciful wizard, all we ask for peace is your famous hot chocolate and cookies!”

“Hmmm...well I suppose you losers do need something to cheer up after I totally destroyed you,” Taako said.

“You cheated!” Kravitz laughed.

“There’s no rules in war, bone baby.” Taako jumped down from his branch and lifted Kravitz’s chin with his wand. Then he helped Angus out of the snow pile. As the three walked home Taako was surprised to find he was smiling. 

Winter had been nothing but a risk of freezing to death for as long as him and Lup had lived on the road. Then it had become an uncomfortable reminder of freezing fingers and aching bones, it wasn’t like Taako had gotten any better at regulating his temperature. Still, hanging out with his man and his boy in the snow had been fun. 

So fun that he didn’t realize he was shivering harder, and sneezing.

The next morning Taako woke up at three in the afternoon, groaning and moping around the house with a blanket wrapped around his body.

“Good morning, sleeping beauty,” Kravitz teased, kissing where he assumed Taako’s forehead was under the blanket. 

“Mmph.” Taako grunted, laying down on the couch.

“Are you alright?” Kravitz asked.

“I’m dying,” Taako croaked hoarsely. “You and the twerp killed me. I’m dying.”

“Did you catch a cold?” Kravitz asked. He reached a hand into the blanket and felt Taako’s forehead. It was warm, but not too concerning yet. “I’ll get you some tea, you’ll feel right as rain in no time.”

“No I won’t, I’ll be dead. You’ll have to take me to the astral plane.”

Kravitz decided to fix Taako a very late breakfast to go with his tea, and by the time he was finished with that it appeared the elf had fallen back to sleep. Kravitz chuckled softly and sat down on the couch in front of the elf. He brushed some hair out of Taako’s eyes and as he did his hand brushed against his forehead. 

Kravitz swore, Taako was burning up. He may not have much experience with mortals, but he knew a fever that high was bad. 

He wished Angus hadn’t been at school, he could have asked him what to do. 

“Taako,”Kraivtz hissed, shaking the elf lightly hoping to wake him up. Taako just flailed loosely and groaned quietly. “Oh my god Taako are you really going to die?” Kravitz shook the elf harder.

“Krav...quit it...” Taako murmured, still not opening his eyes. Then he shivered and drew the blanket closer around himself.

Kravitz felt his stomach swirl in fear and he went into full over-protective husband mode. Seeing Taako shiver, he pulled the elf onto his chest and manifested his reaper wings. He folded Taako into his feathers and tried to keep him as warm as possible. Whenever Taako coughed weakly or murmured in his sleep Kravitz almost whimpered with panic. 

By the time Angus got home to inform Kravitz that Taako, while most likely miserable and very sick, was not in danger of dying, Kravitz had fluffed out his wings like a mama bird and had made his arms sore from clutching at his husband. 

“He just needs some rest, Magnus says that Taako gets like this when he’s sick. He probably has a very low immune system,” Angus explained. 

When Taako finally woke up from a fever induced nap, Kravitz kissed his forehead a dozen times and swore: “I will never make you stay out in the cold again.”

“You big baby,” Taako smirked, kissing Kravitz back.

Great Series one of the best things in life is looking back on things you loved as a kid and find out that you love them just as much if not more as an adult. This collection is complete (two years of strips per book) and with added insights from a guest columnist (such as billy jean king) that gives us a glimpse of why this beloved strip is still so strong today. It's universal, it's honest and it's real, not overly political or too philosophical but you'll undoubtedly see bits of yourself within these comics. I highly recommend everyone buy this series, and make sure to get the two book sets (as opposed to separately) as you get free shipping and they come in a hard cover slipcase that will help ensure that this can be passed down through the generations. Charlie Brown Lucy Snoopy Linus Marcie and the rest 1971-1974 Peanuts has always been my favorite comic strip. Charles Schultz always came up with good stories like when Snoopys doghouse burned down Charlie Brown bought mittens for a girlfriend as a Christmas present only to find out shed just bought some herself Charlie Brown getting a chain letter-leave it to him to get one- among many others. Those stories are in different books but the ones that are in this one are just as good. My two favorites are the one where Charlie Brown and Peppermint Patty go to camp and Charlie Brown gets a roommate that wont say anything to him except shut up and leave me alone meanwhile Peppermint Patty is luckier as her roommate is Marcie who she meets for the first time and the one where Lucy signs up to skate in a Christmas skating pagaent but Snoopy is the only one willing to skate with her. After practicing in the wee hours of the morning for several nights Snoopy gets cold feet when the big day arrives. He sends Woodstock to skate in his place and leaves Lucy yelling Im not gonna skate with a bird.I wont spoil anymore stories either but theyre just as good. You should get it. Go to Amazon

A Happy Camper!! I have been searching for this set for a while and I'm happy that I found it and looking forward to giving this to my Husband for Christmas. I can't wait to see his expression. I know he will be a happy camper since he loves peanuts books. Go to Amazon

Li'l Folks, dontcha love them? I have bought and totally loved every single available box set in these Complete Peanuts series. So why pick this one for a review? Well, you've got to take a stand sometime. Can I add that I've got a special soft spot for Peppermint Patty -- the hippie kid? -- who seems to be on every page of volume 12? Charles M. Schultz began his Peanuts (can you believe he hated the "Peanuts" name to his dying day? It was imposed by the syndicate) strips back in 1950 and never missed a beat up until his death in 2000. We're talking 17,897 daily and Sunday strips here. And Fantagraphics will offer all of them. 50 years of Peanuts, 4 years of Peanuts per yearly boxed set. We're barely halfway through with this boxed set. This humble review comes as a tribute to the undying genius of Schultz. The man is a saint or something. I believe everybody on Earth has at least once in his life seen at least an image of Snoopy. On a T-shirt, a sticker or something. I bet every reader of this poor review knows his Peanuts through and through. If not, buy all the boxed sets already released in this series. In 1974, Schultz really was in full swing, his pencils literally took off while his mind was somewhere else. We love Peanuts! These volumes are rapidly becoming my most prized posession. You have to understand, I AM Charlie Brown. I can link every one of these little personalities with people in my family. Every time I pick one of these books up I am transported to this nameless little town. Aren't we all a little like Charlie Brown? He tries, and tries, and tries, and usually fails; but we love him anyway! Its great to be able to see the strip that ran on special dates in your life, like the day you were born, etc. Charles Schultz was truly a genius. He was able at the same time to present a melancholy almost sorrowful work that was uplifting and always entertaining. These sets are a triumph that I eagerly await every year! Go to Amazon

The Complete Peanuts from 1971 -1974 First, I love the peanuts. Second, I love this wonderful collection! I especially love the fact that I can see which strip was published on different important dates in my life.
