Lessons from 2023: Level up

This was a year of advancement, but also one with horrible events and threatening times ahead. This is why the phrase I'm bringing into 2024 is "level up." I'm leveling up because I can, and there is a need.

Brian Fitzpatrick, one of my writer friends, asked what word or phrase we wanted to bring into 2024. I answered, “Level up.” After the past four years, when I’ve had two novels published by Black Rose Writing, brought my weight down to a healthy level, lived through a pandemic, and adapted to working from home, I was now ready to move to the next step. Most of Bruce Wayne's issues would be solved if he held his kids as babies, Yay or Nay?

Hot take but nay. While it’s cute and the fandom loves the idea, I don’t think him seeing his kids as babies will teach him some sort of lesson on vulnerability or sacrifice that he hasn’t already learned and/or ignored meeting their older counterparts.

Kids don’t magically fix people, and neither do babies. Yes, sometimes they help us realize things. But to put that onus on them even unintentionally gives them more theoretical power than they actually have. Like when people swear having a baby will save a relationship and the world will change once that child is placed in your hands. Would it really? Or do we just hope and wish it would?

not to be an este defender on main (lie) but he already apologized. he took fault. he got penalized and dnf'ed. he acknowledged that the gap was too small.

i get that gasly is angry that este tried to overtake him and crashed into him, but in the end he got a point anyways. he doesn't have to put este on blast, once again, when it has all been said and he already apologized. i get being angry, but where is the team pr? when pierre crashed into este in australia, all este said to the press was "all good, he alr apologized" but no, gasly has to go and act like este swerved the car into him on purpose.

this is not to say the crash was gasly's fault, not at all, but c'mon, it's not like este tried pitting the blame on him at all. he apologized. but obviously all the media will say and repeat is what has been said for years and years, that ocon is the worse teammate ever, without acknowledging that este apologized and owned his mistake.

You know, the simplest thing I do to maintain hope and also acknowledge my emotions is to add a "yet" to whatever I want to complain to myself about.

"I'm not done being angry... yet"

"I'm not ready to let this go yet"

"I'm not happy yet"

I definitely think it can be toxic to refuse to acknowledge negative emotions, but it can be helpful to remind yourself that there is hope and that negative experiences do pass. You don't have to "get over" negative emotions because it's a bad thing to have "negative" emotions, not at all, and please don't use this post to guilt yourself over negative or uncomfortable feelings. Just know... it's okay to be hopeful, it isn't foolish to wish for a good future for yourself

Another year has passed, and with it the opportunity to reflect back on all that has happened. While my growth was not as dramatic as last year, I can still see lots of positive change.

I'll never have enough ways to say thank you for all the love and support you have given me this year. On to 2025!
