Number Neighbor Pt. 16
Natasha Romanoff x Fem! Reader
Natasha Masterlist Series Masterlist
Word Count: 1k
Summary: When you catch sight of the newest trend going around you know you’re all but bound to at least try it, it was harmless anyway. What could possibly stem from something so little?
----
Nat knew from the moment the coffee machine broke that morning that something was off about today. Tony had bots clanging in the kitchen all day and every member of the tower was on the verge of strangling him. She didn’t feel up to going out though so she was forced to stay in her room all day. However, she didn’t expect her evening to go from 10 to 100 in a matter of minutes. And it all started with a text from you at 11 pm.
Not unusual for you but the message lacked your usual humor
Y/n🍦:
Nat.
No attempt at guessing her name, no witty quip to go along with it, no extra letters or emojis.
Something was going on and she didn’t like the pit forming in her stomach. This was a situation she’d never found herself in. Did she act calm? Did she… call you?
She shook her head, she could be freaking out over nothing, maybe you just had a long day and you were tired. The voice in the back of her head scoffed, Nat knew she was only trying to convince herself that these next few moments weren’t about to happen.
Nat🔪:
Y/n.
What’s going on?
Y/n🍦:
Help i-
I think I’m being followed.
Nat🔪:
Think or your sure
Y/n🍦:
You’re*
Nat rolled her eyes. Of course, you were trying to be funny right now, humor was your biggest coping mechanism. She knew your humor was a defense against coming across as weak and vulnerable- it was an attempt to make the other person less aware of just how scared you were, but she knew. She knew you were probably shaking as you texted her and there was nothing she could do about it.
Y/n🍦:
Fuck.
I’m sure.
Nat’s heart sank.
She could get your location from your phone but could she arrive in time? You lived in Brooklyn and she was in Manhattan- 12 miles away, at her fastest, she could probably get there in 30 minutes. Not enough time. Stalkers will only follow for so long before attacking. You didn’t know this man's intentions.
For you, this could be a life-or-death situation.
Still- she called Peter, he was on patrol tonight, hopefully, he was in your area. He picked up immediately, his boyish voice ringing awkwardly through her silent room. She didn’t give him the time to speak more.
“Peter there’s a girl in Brooklyn being followed” Her tone was solid, she couldn’t let the vulnerability she felt slip through either. It’s been many years since she’s felt this helpless about someone she cared about. And that was not a wound she was ready to reopen. God you were bringing out every part of her.
Peter didn’t ask a single question, all Nat could hear was the thwip of his webs and the rush of wind against his phone.
“I sent you the address, how close are you?” She heard the faint sound of him mumbling before Karen’s robotic voice repeated your phone’s location
“I’m 20 minutes away” It wasn’t fast enough but it was as good as she was going to get.
Nat🔪:
It’s okay Y/n
Have you called the cops?
Y/n🍦:
No, I tried calling Leon
He lives nearby i thought maybe-
fuck I’m so stupid
Nat🔪:
No, y/n, you’re not stupid
You’re scared.
You’re not going to be perfect at handling
This kind of situation. No one is
Nat🔪:
Do you have any weapons in your bag?
Y/n🍦:
Nat listen-
If I don’t…
Nat🔪:
Don’t.
Y/n🍦:
Please.
Nat🔪:
No, i’m not listening to any requests you have
You’re going to be okay
Is he still there?
Y/n🍦:
Yeah
I’ve walked around the block a few times
I don’t know where to go
Nat’s fingers itched over the call button, she would be a lot better at reassuring you over the phone. But her voice was raspy and recognizable, would you realize it was her as soon as she said hello? Would that be a bad thing? Could she risk telling you her identity? Could she trust you? After so many years and so many people were you finally going to be the one to break down her carefully constructed walls? She sighed frustratingly, now was not the time. You needed her.
Y/n🍦:
Fuck
I think he’s getting closer
Nat🔪:
Y/n go to a house with the light on
And knock on their door.
Or look for a large group of people.
Find a public space.
She was growing more desperate by the minute. God if she ever got her hands on the bastard that’s making you this petrified she was going to do more than just kill him.
“Peter, how far away are you?”
“Five minutes Miss Romanoff” She could hear his breathlessness, she didn’t imagine it was easy to swing across buildings at that speed.
Nat🔪:
Y/n, keep talking to me okay?
Y/n🍦:
I don’t know why I decided to go out.
I just wanted some ice cream
I’m so stupid
Nat🔪:
No.
You are not stupid
This bastard is. Trust me.
Do you have high heels on?
Or your keys?
Y/n🍦:
No-
I walked to the store
Nat🔪:
Look for anything on the ground
A glass bottle or rocks
Y/n🍦:
Nat
I’m scared
Natasha waited for you to keep texting. Waited desperately for something witty to come across the screen, anything to let her know you were still safe. Peter was close now, close enough to hopefully make it before any irreparable damage is done but- if this guy has a weapon. She sucked in a sharp breath.
Nat🔪:
Y/n?
Y/n answer me.
y/n c’mon
Y/n. please.
The dam broke. She hit the call button. She couldn’t pretend she didn’t care about you even a little bit. It rang and rang, stone cold silence filled her room between each shrill toll of her phone. Don’t panic.
She stood and began pacing back and forth, running a shaky hand through her hair.
Each ring was torture- and she knew torture. Come on Y/n. Another blare of useless noise before the line connected. All she heard was a brief 'umph' before the line went dead.
Fuck.
Pt.17
A/n: giving Y/n more trauma 'for the plot' ;P ~ Starry

Introduction
This blog is a roleplay blog for a fanmade universe from Dead By Daylight. This blog is meant for 18+, but yeah I was a teen on tumblr too so honestly don't ask don't tell because I will have to block you if I find out you're a minor. Content and Trigger warnings: Since this blog is based on Dead By Daylight, there will be discussions of bodily harm, torture, ect. Basically, the game is literally "hide from a deranged monster wanting to kill you" or "kill all survivors at any cost" and features iconic horror and slasher characters. So yes, all the nasty stuff. Also, and I'm gonna put it in REALLY BIG LETTERS The Freddy in my universe is OG/Custom Fanon Freddy. He is ***NOT*** the 2010 Remake Freddy. I am very aware Remake! Freddy is a monster. That is why my friend and I created our version. The Universe: ASKS ARE OPEN! - Disclaimer: The fanon this blog is using is created by me and my bestie who runs @mashtyxchaosgremlin, Nea's Point of View. We are very loosely canon compliant, and yeah we probably gayed up your main in some way shape or form. (that last parts a joke) Most "in character" posts are based on actual matches we have had. - Freddy: Not the remake. The Freddy in our universe has roots with OG Freddy, and got turned into if Deadpool and Tony Stark were one person. No I can't explain it any better and I've tried. Point is, the Freddy on our blogs is not and will never be the remake. Quentin: Yeah we kept Quentin. Why? Because truthfully, Quen's personality formed before Freddy's and idk about Matchy but I get attached when they get a personality. So, our fanon logic is that the entity can pull anyone from anywhere anywhen so tell me where it doesn't say that the entity grabbed our Freddy by accident. Ada: Yeah we bully Ada. A lot. No offense meant to Ada fans or mains, it's a running joke with Matchy that Mikaela and Ada are rivals because of Leon (And later Wesker). Given this blog is meant to be as if Mikaela were posting on it, she does what we all do and bitch about it online. The Legion: Frank's 26. Julie's 25. Joey is 23 and Susie is 22 but a week to 23. Skull Merchant: Ada but killer Everyone is some flavor of gay, mentally ill, disabled or both. Avatar photo: https://www.artstation.com/artwork/YeN2qd

TopGun Soulmate AU
Fates aligned with the help of an M-16
Chapter 1 A little bit of backstory
This is the story of how my whole world got turned upside down. And things happened that I never thought would happen. Anyway, My name is Kaley Leroy-Jethro Gibbs. But most people just call me K for LJ, except my dad who calls me his Sunflower. My mom and my twin sister were killed in a car accident when I was 9. And I got severely injured and was in a coma for 6 months. All of this happen while my dad was overseas fighting in a ‘Desert Storm’. You see my dad is a sniper for the Marines, well Technically after everything that happened with my mom, Kelly my twin, and myself he was honorably discharged, but Once a Marine Always a Marine. But will get into that later. Anyway after my dad got back we moved to Norfolk, Virginia, he became an N.C.I.S (Naval Criminal Investigative Services) agent which was just now getting started it wasn’t that big of a federal organization yet but it was still the best thing he could have ever asked for.
About 6 months after we moved to Norfolk I started 4th Grade which was normal for me I guess I mean I grew up moving from base to base so that means changing schools a lot but it was weird this time back because I didn’t have my twin there anymore. talk about a hard change. Anyway long story short I made 2 new friends that day that would later turn into my best friends. Natasha Trace and Callie Bassett, or as my dad and I loved to call them FireBird, and Angel, or as the U.S. Navy calls them ‘Phoenix’ and ‘Halo’. Know there are both Navel Aviators and I’m an N.C.I.S agent like my dad. I work on my dad’s team alongside agents Tony DiNozzo, Timothy ‘Tim’ Mcgee, and Ziva David our team’s M.E. Donald 'Ducky’ Mallard, and his assistant Jimmy Plamer, and our Forensic Scientist Abigail 'Abby’ Sciuto, my dads the leader of the crazy little team that is really more like a family. Who totally put the fun in dysfunctional. Then there’s the director and my dad’s boss Leon Vance who I see more as a grandpa than I do a boss which is why most of the time I just call him Pops. At first, he wasn’t a big fan of my chosen term of endearment but he has grown to love it.
In my world when you turn 16 the name of your soulmate appears somewhere on your body. Most people only get one, But some get two. Which is rare but still more common than most might think. Then there are the unbelievably rare three names which means three soulmates. Most of my family or the people in my life that I consider my chosen family. Have one but there are a few who have 2 and they have already met them. Which is amazing and I’m extremely happy for them. But for someone like me who has three and still hasn’t might any of them it kind of hard to see everyone who is important to me be happy. When I can’t seem to find my happily ever after.
When my names appeared as well as my two best friends we all agreed to not tell each other who they were until we found them. Why, I can’t remember then we had a reason it’s just been so long we can’t remember it. My dads was my mom even throw he has been married three more times since the accident none of them worked out. Zivas is Tony they refused to admit it for a while but there still each other forever. Tim, Abby, and Jimmy haven’t found there’s yet. Ducky sadly doesn’t have one but is still unbelievably happy he’s our Ducky. Now Nat and Callie both have two they meet both of there’s when they went to the academy. Nat’s are both Navel Aviators Reuben 'Payback’ Fitch and Mickey 'Fanboy’ Garcia. Callie’s are both also Navel Aviators Billy 'Fritz’ Avalone, and Neil 'Omaha’ Vikander. I have never met any of them but I have heard a lot about them. Between phone calls, Facetime, Emails, and plain old handwritten letters. The three of us stay pretty much in constant contact. Or at least we try to when they are serving on carriers in the middle of some ocean it gets a little bit harder. But we try our best.
Anyway like I said, I’ve got three Soulmates one name on each collar bone Bradley 'Rooster’ Bradshaw, Robert 'Bob’ Floyd, and one on the front of my left hip bone Jake 'Hangman’ Seresin. They all showed on the day I turned 16 all three names burned into my skin at the same time. Nat and Callie were surprised I didn’t blackout from the pain, but after the accident, I got a crazy high pain tolerance. My dad was a little taken aback because it meant that one day he was going to have to give his little girl away to three different men, not something any father wants to think about.
Anyway, back to now I’ve just got out of a meeting in Pops office. He came down earlier to tell the team about a case, But told me to stay and that they would handle this one without me. Of course, I was confused but now I couldn’t be happier. Pops read me in on the fact the N.C.I.S was working on putting new offices or more like H.Q.’s along the coastlines of the country. Because they currently only have four one in Norfolk, New Orleans, Los Angeles, And Oahu (Pearl Horbor) Hawai’i. But now they want to start a new team in San Diego working out of the Miramar base home to Top Gun. And Pops wants me to be the team leader which is something I have been wanting and working for my whole life so of course I said yes. Now I just have to figure out how to tell my Dad and the rest of my family that I am moving all the way to the other side of the country to California. I mean after I said yes Pop gave me the specifics and told me congrats but then started to cry saying how much he was going to miss having his first grandbaby around every day. This might be harder than I think.

Explore Beaumont Hills in Winter
Red Bull presents a rad new moto edit featuring a dune that is ripping with freeride legend Tom Parsons. Watch the full video here. This season, Thornton Wilder’s Pulitzer Prize-winning play Our Town returns to Broadway. Kenny Leon, Tony-winning director is the director of the production. The production will begin on September 29, after previews start on September 11. The Journey In winter traveling to and from your destination can be challenging. Respondents suggested providing snow clearing, sanding, and de-icing on public walkways, trails and local roads could help make it more secure to walk, or use transit. Many people love winter walks, skating, and Sledding. They also enjoy indoor activities like attending events, visiting the library or shopping in Centre-Ville. In addition, adding heated seating, bus stops and washrooms to outdoor spaces will help people spend more time outside in winter. A number of respondents suggested that providing programs specifically for teenagers and older adults could help keep them active and connected through winter. Adding a community car snow clearing program was another suggestion. How to prepare for the ride The advent of frigid temperatures and bone-chilling wind brings the cycling scene to a halt for millions of bikers. However, if you've got suitable gear in place making the switch from your car to buy a bike is a rewarding experience. Layer your clothes. The addition and removal of layers as you heat up can help regulate your temperature. Also, ensure that your feet and gloves are properly protected. By wearing gaiters or lined your shoes with liners will help maintain circulation, so that fingers and toes are not numb. Keep your home close and prepare for the future. This will ensure you're not far from your home in case the weather turns bad or you run out of energy. Day One Winter's icy temperatures and numbing winds can indicate that the riding season for a lot of bikers has ended. What is it if you could still get your fix and not have to wait for warmer weather? Parsons was trained as a dentist and also wrote poetry and classical translations. He published numerous original works, and was regarded as a top Dante translator. Spirit of '02 has been an annual tradition of the cavalry for many years. A group consisting of 17 cavalry soldiers maintain and fire the 1902 military-style field gun at Aggie football games. This once-in-a-lifetime opportunity gave them a chance to see their work put into action. Day Two The letter sent by Charles Koppert is addressed to Thomas, John and Abby Parsons. Charles is enrolled in medical school in Washington, D.C. and has no money while he is preparing for sea. William is transferring cotton from Mobile, Alabama to Liverpool, England. William writes to Thomas and his sister about investing in railroads. The cavalry prepares for an opportunity that will only occur only once. This involves repairing trailers, getting the horses ready for the icy roads, and fundraising. George Parsons '48 establishes one of the first endowed gifts to the cavalry, and it is still used to cover operating costs. Day Three This short film by Markus Stitz & Mark Beaumont, inspired by the Scottish National Trail encourages people to discover their local borders. Filmed at a new gravel bike route near Edinburgh, the film highlights the beauty as well as challenges of riding through winter. Parsons the sea captain was a sea captain who sailed from New Zealand to Australia to ship Southern cotton to Liverpool in England. He wrote to his brother Charles who was captain of the NH militia as well as a state legislator.

Parsons moved in to Kaufman's house after the Topanga Canyon house burned down due to a burned-out smoke. They then recorded Burrito Deluxe. Day Four Experience the breathtaking design and serene beauty of Louisiana Cajun culture and Texas Cowboy culture. You can enjoy fried alligator, crawfish and gumbo whilst listening to the soothing sound of country, jazz and blues. Are you planning a trip for Beaumont Hills, California? Make use of Moovit for a seamless journey. Get the most recent schedules, route maps estimates of travel times, and fares from relevant transport operators. do you have any random fun facts about czolgosz? you mentioned wanting to post about him more but i think you deleted it haha
he was the 50th person to be executed by electric chair in the state of new york
until he was sentenced, he was in denial about the whole being executed thing. like he requested that something about how he was willing to be executed be removed from his statement, and when he was told that if the president died then he would be executed he basically said "yeah but maybe i won't be"
liked music and theater. probably.
slept with a newspaper article about gaetano bresci (guy who killed the king of italy in 1900) with him in bed for over 6 months. he read it repeatedly and would let his family members read it too.
he had weak arms
once refused to donate to a church and when the priest asked why, leon said "anarchy is my religion." or something along those lines
he’d been to buffalo previously. it was just for fun, to see niagara falls
some facts about his family also!
his half-brothers fought in world war 1 and one of them, antoine (aka tony), died in it
victoria (leon’s sister) sued celia (leon’s other sister) in 1933 over leon's life insurance money. she had been too young to get any at the time of his death (she was 17 or 18, which made her a minor) and she had been promised her share of it, but celia had never paid her. nothing came of it.
victoria & emma goldman exchanged letters for a little while

An Open Letter Denouncing the [RACIST] Attacks on Justice Clarence Thomas
https://www.realclearpolitics.com/articles/2022/07/13/an_open_letter_denouncing_the_attacks_on_justice_clarence_thomas_147879.html?mc_cid=e37b2b8113
An Open Letter Denouncing the Attacks on Justice Clarence Thomas
By Glenn Loury & Robert Woodson Sr.
July 13, 2022
White progressives do not have the moral authority to excommunicate a black man from his race because they disagree with him.
And those – regardless of background – who join in the charade or remain silent are guilty of enabling this abuse.
We, the undersigned, condemn the barrage of racist, vicious, and ugly personal attacks that we are witnessing on Clarence Thomas – a sitting Supreme Court justice. Whether it is calling him a racist slur, an “Uncle Tom” or questioning his “blackness” over his jurisprudence, the disparagement of this man, of his faith and of his character, is abominable.
Regardless of where one stands on Justice Thomas’ personal or legal opinions, he is among the pantheon of black trailblazers throughout American history and is a model of integrity, scholarship, steadfastness, resilience, and commitment to the Constitution of the United States of America. For three decades Justice Thomas has served as a model for our children. He has long been honored and celebrated by black people in this country and his attackers do not speak for the majority of blacks.
He is entirely undeserving of the vitriol directed at him. Character assassination has become too convenient a tool for eviscerating those who dare dissent from the prevailing agenda, especially when it is a black man who is dissenting.
This is not about the content of the court’s decisions or Justice Thomas’ personal views; some of the undersigned agree with his judicial decisions and some do not. We speak out – as black people and Americans – to condemn these attacks and support Justice Thomas, because to remain silent would be to implicitly endorse these poisonous schemes as well as his destruction.
Sincerely,
Glenn Loury

Craig Shirley: Donations To Reagan Library Will Trickle Down After Liz Cheney Speech, "The Debates Are Over"
Occam's Razor (the simplest explanation is usually correct) would say that Cheney saw the GOP departing from everything she represents and did her best to poison every Republican Institution she can touch before she's driven out into the wilderness.
FNC's Peter Doocy To White House: Does The President Think It Is Appropriate To Protest Outside A Supreme Court Justice's Home?
So the Biden Administration thinks it's OK to shadow these Justices, or any other public figure, from location to location to disrupt their lives and possibly expose them to threats. You have a right to peacefully protest but their are restrictions on time, place, and manner...and one of those is a restriction (a law against!) on protesting outside the homes of Justices. So, the Administration is approving and tacitly encouraging illegal behavior. The only reason to protest outside the homes of these Justices is to intimidate them; it certainly isn't aimed at persuading fellow Americans on the issue.
Zelensky: "The End Of The World Has Arrived" I'm Embarrassed This Is Happening In The 21st Century
Some may remember the Cuban Missile Crisis in the early 60s. Castro was in power in Cuba and the Russians began bringing nuclear missiles into Cuba. JFK was President of the USA at the time. A nuclear was was barely averted and Russia took their missiles home, but exacted some concessions from Kennedy, one of which was pulling our missile capability out of Turkey. At the end of the Cold War promises were made to Russia that NATO would not expand into the Russian sphere of influence. That promise has been broken many times. Havana Cuba is a bit further from Washington, D.C., than Kiev is from Moscow. Biden signed a paper in Nov 2021 that invited Ukraine to join NATO. See " The Two Blunders That Caused the Ukraine War" in the March 4th WSJ. One might ask why Biden opened the door for Ukraine to join NATO? Did he think that Russia would do nothing with the prospect of being squeezed by another NATO country? Or did Biden want Russia to attack the Ukraine to take the heat off the dismal prospects of the mid-term elections?
Recall, Remove & Replace Every Last Soros Prosecutor | RealClearPolitic
Recall is not feasible particularly since many states do not have recall. But voters should pay more attention to these DA, AG, and prosecutor races. Republicans adopted a from the ground up strategy to win state legislator races and it was a spectacular success. Democrats, with Soros money are trying to do the same thing with DA races. Republicans should engage them and voters should pay more attention or we will end up with more non prosecution of crimes and release without bail.
Tucker Carlson: Arrest Of Bannon And Navarro Is A Huge Escalation In Democratic Party's Weaponization Of DOJ
The whole premise of the J6 witch hunt is that an insurrection to over-throw the US gov't was planned. Mind you, this was planned without a single weapon to be used, and relied on the police abandoning post, and the Capitol doors to somehow be opened from the inside. Once inside these "insurrectionists" took selfies. This narrative is so dead.

La Carta Tagging: @antony-malinowski & @detkhamani and others. Featuring: Maritza and Camila Castillo de Leon. Trigger Warnings: Abuse, Homophobia.
“Seba, can you please hold still?” Maritza was fretting. She knew she was fretting. Camila knew, Leo knew, her mother probably knew a million miles away but this was important and Seb was being, well Seb. “Please!”
Sebastián was cracking up. Not that he was enjoying his sister’s misery it was just that he and Camila had placed bets at how much of a diva she’d be and they weren’t wrong. She was definitely the perfectionist in the family, making sure everything and everyone was in order while Camila took a back seat a lot of the time. Seb was somewhere in the middle and he was sure that drove his family even more mad. “Mari, porfavor. The boutonniere looks beautiful. I promise, hermanita.” He lowered his gaze and cupped her face lovingly. “This day is going to be perfect. Besides, no dad to fuck it up, am I right?”
Camila rolled her eyes at the mention of their father and laid back on the bed of the bungalow, sighing. “I mean, I guess. But he had to make his presence known somehow. You know dad, making everything about him.”
Mari froze, dropping her hands and casting an expression of discontent toward her sister. “Cam, really?”
“What?” Camila sat up, surprised at her sister’s annoyance. “What did I do?”
“He doesn’t know!” Mari marched up to her baby sister and flicked her forehead. “Good job.”
“Oh, real mature, Ms. Perfect! You were in charge of giving it to him!”
“EXACTLY! Which is why I made the executive decision NOT TO!”
“You know you’re just like mom, hiding things from me! Am I a mind reader? Do I add psychic to my degree too?”
“For God sakes, Cam, look at your phone.”
“Uh hello?” Seb waved his hands. “Big brother getting married here. Like, I’m literally here. What are you guys talking about? What letter?”
“Oh shit.” Camila looked down at her phone and at the text message last sent by her big sister specially stating not to mention the letter and how she was planning to give it AFTER the ceremony.
“I’m still waiting? Mari? Cam? A word? Seb moved to sit on the bed beside his youngest sister as Maritza pulled a chair to join the. “What letter?”
“I’m so sorry, Seba.” She sat down, defeated, letting her gown fall at her feet. Suddenly she felt like a little girl, failing her big brother, her idol, the person that had shielded them from dad for so long and she couldn’t do this one thing for him. “I really didn’t want you to have it. I was planning on giving it to you after the ceremony and when we can all have some shots or something and then we can burn it.”
Sebastián was visibly confused even though he had sorted out most it in his head. He was still wondering if this meant his father and mother would be making some sort of an appearance. “But they’re not coming.”
“is that a statement or question because my answer will vary depending on that.” Camila bit the inside of her cheek. “Seba, you know mom and dad. I’m sorry. I know that you would have wanted them here.”
He took a deep breath, knowing where Cam was coming from. In a way, she reminded him of Tony, toeing on the side of caution when it came to their father and keeping a glimmer of hope that their dad would open up to them and embrace who they were. Well, embrace Seb. He didn’t deserve any of this and Seb knew that Camila felt this the hardest. Maritza had already hardened like he had. “That’s the thing, hermana. I’m not concerned about them not being here. Good. Good they’re not here. I won’t allow anyone to take my happiness or Tony’s. He’s already got too much going on his mind and personal life to deal with el dictador abogado senor Castillo. Por favor. We don’t need him here. You’re my family. The two of y ou and Leo, Khamani and Kendra and Tyla and Celese and the radio show. Everyone else can kiss my Guatemalan ass, honestly. Please don’t carry that responsibility with you, Camila. And you…” He took Maritza’s hand. “You don’t have to fix everything. Our time of being perfectionists for people who never appreciated us is over. We’re too old for that, okay?
“Pfft, speak for yourself.” Mari flipped her hair, tears streaming down her face as she tried to keep it together. She was failing miserably. “But I get Camila. It’s not fair. It never will be.”
He shrugged, holding out his hand. “I’m over it. But I want to see the letter. I promise I’ll be a big brave boy?”
His sisters laughed and Camila nodded her encouragement as Maritza reached for her clutch on the table beside the bed. She pulled out a sealed envelope and handed it to her older brother. He took it from her and looked down at the wax seal. “Que professional!”
They laughed again and he laughed with them, glad to see them calmer. “Hey, can you guys give me a moment” He waved the envelope. “Just want to do this alone.”
They nodded and took their things to get ready on the beach. Camila, as she exited and closed the door asked Maritza if she had read it. “I did. Before dad sealed it. It’s not very nice, Cam. I’m sorry.” And as they walked together, it occurred to Cam that she should begin letting go of her fantastical view of her father.
“I’m going to go find Leo.” Camila left her older sister’s side and Maritza left to find Khamani. He should know about dad’s newest bullshit.
Alone in the bungalow, Sebastián took a deep breath, patting his knee with the envelope as his mind raced. He let out a laugh and shook his head, tears forming in his eyes. “Fucking typical.” He ripped the seal open and pulled out the letter. A litany. Again, very on brand for his father.
Hijo,
I’ve been watching your journey on the show and I’ve seen a side that everyone around me tells me has always existed. I know I’ve been wrong many times and I also acknowledge that I don’t do a proper job at admitting that.
With that said, I don’t know how I feel about your nuptials with this Tony. You must understand how I had been raised a particular way. I wish in my heart of hearts that perhaps you would have gone in a different path. I believe sometimes you like to go against the wind because it pleases you to rebel. Like Camila but worse. I’m sorry if this seems harsh. I know that my words don’t drip with honey but I’d rather be realistic. It is foolish to marry so swiftly to someone you hardly know. What examples will you be setting up for my grandson?
It’s nice to see you this loving and it does fill me with conflicting feelings. I am proud of y ou, always will be but I need some time to fully accept any of it. Even if my words seem off now, it’s simply because I cannot promise acceptance at this moment. I hope to. I do. I’ll do better. Its difficult for me to feel otherwise…
It was more than enough for Seb to read. He could hardly handle these first few paragraphs. More reading would mean getting sucked into some strange reality where his father could change and he’d somehow try to erase and take back years of abuse. Not today. He folded the letter and tucked it in an envelope. “Weak apology. Weak whatever this is, papa.” It wasn’t sincere. It wasn’t some magical new start. It was manipulation at it’s finest. Perhaps someday he can change but for now, he cannot accept? Not good enough. He thought about the burning ceremony his sisters had suggested and decided to tuck the envelope into the side table.
There were other important matters at hand.

Gnawing.
It claws through my body on all fours. Tearing, ripping, hacking, burning.
Monstrous fangs that sink into the deepest parts of muscle- I can feel it in my bones, the burning.
There is no noise, just the sound of whirring and the unholy screeching of demons in my ears. Faceless demons, demons whose faces have too much detail, demons that stare, demons that scream. Demons, demons, demons.
I have fallen. Fallen from grace. Fallen from…
No, no.
I am falling.
Something catches me. A savior in blue. Scarlet red smeared across their chest. Blood. My blood- the blood of sinners and saints and bystanders. Of children and ancients and of rich and poor.
There’s white streaked between the red. Piety. Purity. Righteousness. Desperately, I cling to the stark white stripes. Indecipherable mumbles pass my lips as I stare at the white. I beg for purity, to be clean again.
Every time I wake up, it’s always the same.
The immovable weight in my body. The unceasing shivering. The bite of frost. The writhing of filth in my veins. In my nerves. In every fiber of my being. Festering. Growing. Rotting. Corrupting. Remembering.
But why can’t I remember?
All I can remember are the demons. Faceless, nameless but never silent. Always screaming.
Screaming, screaming, screaming.
I cling to the white. The righteousness of my savior. Solidity in turbulence. Silence in cacophony. Purity. Cleanliness. Life.
I cling to life.
But life burns under my fingertips. It shrieks and squirms under my touch- tries to escape. Repelled by my presence, it retracts away from my grasp.
Color retracts into shapes as I take in my surroundings. An almost completely empty room completely made of concrete. A single contraption behind me made of metal. Icy fog slithers out of the open door, hissing and flicking at my ankles.
Words, however, remain blurred. The savior holds me upright- pulls me to my feet. Everything burns and aches. I’m so incredibly cold. Frosted water paints my skin, coats my clothes to my body. A puddle gathers beneath the writhing fog.
This seems familiar.
My eyes turn up towards my savior. The blood-stained guardian. Words fall from their lips, landing on deaf ears.
My body trembles as the cold becomes more vicious with its fangs. The savior turns away and says something. Everything is muffled- faraway and distant and like someone has their hands clamped down over my ears.
“Why am I awake?” I ask, straightening up. Every inch of me quivers while every part of me wishes to stop.
But I was awoken for a purpose. My mission.
And I’ll complete it.
Hail HYDRA.
Location: S.H.I.E.L.D. Headquarters
Date: 2012
“Woah, easy, ________,” I mutter, holding her upright. Her eyes wide, they flick around the room. Her hands grip my chest as she shakes violently.
She’s here. She’s alive.
She… she died. Died on that table- how is this…
“Steve,” Tony mutters, holding out a blanket. I take it and start to wrap it around her shoulders.
As her glazed eyes lock with mine, I look over her face. She’s drained of color- blue and white. Her chapped blue lips open and close violently.
Hoarsely, she starts to speak.
But not anything I can understand.
Over and over, she repeats questions with her eyes wide and wary of every moment and movement. My eyes dart over to Tony- who watches ________, his eyebrows furrowed.
Russian.
That’s what she’s speaking. Russian. And fluently. Extremely well. Why… Why is she…?
“She didn’t… usually speak like this, did she?” Tony asks, gesturing vaguely to her as she continues to shake in my arms. Broken words off a stolen tongue hiss past her lips. She furrows her eyebrows as she looks between the two of us.
“Her files told me she was-” Tony continues.
“She’s… she’s never spoken this before,” I mutter, adjusting my grip under her arms. “Raised in Brooklyn for most’a her life- I dunno why-”
“V chem... moya missiya?” ________ hisses, her voice shaking. I look down and watch her straighten up on unsteady legs. “V chem moya missiya?”
“...why is she…?” Tony mutters, stepping in front of her. He lets his head fall back with a sigh as he taps his leg with his finger. “It’s been a long time, let’s see if I can do this.” Rolling his shoulders back and snapping his neck, he focuses back on ________. “Kto ty?”
________’s head tilts to the side slightly. Her eyebrows furrow further as she glares at him through them. “...Hetaerae. V chem moya missiya?”
Tony sighs and closes his eyes as he speaks. “Ch… chto… ty. Chto ty?”
Her eyes glaze over as she stops shaking, standing upright. “Ya HYDRA.”
“...she’s… She died, Tony. I don’t… I don’t know what else to tell you,” I mutter, looking up from the desk. “She… she died before I even got the serum. I hadn’t even seen Doctor Erskine- Bucky… he hadn’t been shipped off to Europe yet.”
“I may be able to help explain that,” Tony says as he gets to his feet. In his hand is a thick folder filled with papers and photos and notes and scraps of paper. He places it in front of me with a thud. “Apologies- I would opt for the digital version but, uh… you… don’t even know what... that… is.”
“Tony,” I say sharply as I open the folder. He just shrugs and sits down across the table again. The top paper is mostly blacked-out with a few words left untouched. ________’s name. Her age. Her parents and their causes and dates of death. And other words that… don’t make sense. ‘Mistress’. ‘Replication’. ‘Improvement’. ‘Rejected’. ‘Baroness’. ‘Salbei’.
‘Hetaerae’.
Repeated over and over throughout the sea of black streaks is that word. ‘Hetaerae’. At the very bottom of the page in tiny letters are the words ‘Project Samsara- Hetaerae’. In the corner is a skull with tentacles writhing beneath it. ‘HYDRA’ is written along the curve of the skull.
My stomach churns. If HYDRA really is behind this then...
I start tearing into the folder. Photos of the various angles of the steel container from when I woke up. Under it is a handwritten note. ‘Cryo-container; Vrsn: Hetaerae’.
Another photo- this one of a chair. On the armrests and legs are cuffs, along with another one on the back of the chair. Something metal comes around the chair. It juts off the side of a machine and looms over it like an archway. A note is written over the photo. ‘Neck brace may prematurely terminate subject. Issue logged during first programming session’.
Another blacked-out stack of papers. The same words are repeated over and over again. ‘Hetaerae’, ‘Baroness’, ‘Samsara’, ‘Salbei’, ‘HYDRA’. My fists clench the papers before tossing them to the side. Tony watches in silence.
What the Hell is this? What were they doing- what did ________ have to do with it?
My eyebrows furrow as I manically flip through the papers. Papers fly to the side as I tear through the folder. I can feel myself getting rigid as I near the end.
Nothing. I’ve learned nothing. Not a single goddamn thing. There’s nothing here-
My hands stop as my eyes rest on the last few items. A file not blacked out. It’s completely intact. Nothing scratched, no scribbles, no hasty lines cutting through words. I snatch it and start reading.

“Look at her track record,” Tony mutters, sliding a thick wad of papers over to me. Turning away, I shake my head. “...fine. I’ll read it for you.” He huffs, flipping through the various pages. “Uh… her first mission was to…” he scoffs, “To take out a mid-level politician that had apparently laid his eyes on something he shouldn’t have. ‘Mission: success, target: terminated’.”
“Tony…” I warn quietly, my shoulders getting tenser with each word.
“A few missions later, she’s retrieving lab samples and… and destroying the lab... Fourteen people killed. ‘Mission: success, targets: terminated’.”
“Tony.”
“I’m skimmin’ here, Cap, but listen- an orphanage in Saint Petersburg, a… a couple in Prague, a woman in Athens, a man in Cairo...” Tony continues skimming through the pages. “‘Mission: success, target: terminated’, ‘Mission: success, target: terminated’, ‘Mission: success, target: terminated’-”
“Enough!” I snap, turning to look at him.
Tony sighs and puts the papers down. Running a hand down his face, he purses his lips. “Dunno how else t’tell ya this, Cap- she’s dangerous. She has killed hundreds of people. She can speak seven languages, she can infiltrate a political atmosphere and topple it, she can... camouflage in any… social situation, she has a perfect kill record... Whoever she was before-”
“She’s still in there,” I cut in. “She’s still in there.”
Tony rolls his eyes. “Are… are you not... hearing what I’m telling you?” He gestures to the original folder. “They laid into her for… ten years. Subjected her to torture. Wiped her slate clean. Whatever was in there, pal, it’s long gone.”
A huff leaves my lips. “...you don’t know what she was like,” I mumble coldly, reminiscing over what it was like to live with her, to live with her at my side like I was at hers. “She was… the most... hard-headed… stubborn dame I’d ever met. And strong, too.”
“Rogers-”
“She’s still in there, Tony,” I snap, my eyes flicking up to him. “She’s strong.”
“Good morning.” I say, waving at ________ as she sits on the chair. Her breathing is steady, eyes trained on the opposite side of the room. Her wrists are handcuffed to the armests- the same with her ankles. They clink slightly as she breathes.
The room is completely empty except for another chair across from hers. My shield lays against the chair- ‘a precaution’ Fury called it.
‘A threat’ is what I would call it.
I step further into the room and sit down on the chair. With glazed eyes, she watches me. “Are… those too tight?” I ask, gesturing to the cuffs.
She says nothing. Only blinks in response.
She… she looks so empty.
Her face was always glowing, her smile illuminating the clinic when Buck and I would walk in to bring her lunch or just to bug her. Letters would flood in every now and then from past patients or their families, thanking her for her patience and kindness. She would keep them all in a shoebox under her bed.
And her hands. She would wrap bandages around my wounds with care. She’d always tell me to not get it in my head to fight again… and then ask where the punks lived so she could ‘pay them a visit’. Her hands were always feather-soft when checking every injury’s progress.
Now they look… darker. Not in color but just… darker.
Stained.
Did she know what she was doing when she killed those people?
________ shifts slightly, the sound of the handcuffs pulling me out of my head. I clear my throat and straighten up. “...do you know who I am?” I ask quietly.
No response.
“Do you know who you are?”
“Haetarae.” She answers, eyes still glazed.
“Do you… do you know who you actually are?”
________’s eyes narrow for just a moment. “...HYDRA.”
“No. No,” I mutter, pointing to my chest. “...do you know who I am?”
...nothing.
“Steve. I’m Stevie. We… we grew up in Brooklyn together. With Bucky. We, um… Buck ‘nd I, we helped you out of a fight when you were thirteen. That’s how we met… you… remember that…?”
She blinks, eyes scanning over me.
Getting up from my seat, I reach into my pocket and tug a photo of the three of us out of my pocket. It was taken after she had gotten her nursing credentials. We had gone out dancing, just the three of us. We found someone willing to take our photo. A smile crosses my lips as I look down at it.
Colors start to fade into the black and white photo. Every detail is so crisp. ________’s chin is resting on my head as she stands behind me- a bright, red-lipped smile on her face. Her arms are wrapped around my chest as she leans over. Her hair is done perfectly- up with roses in her hair. Neat and tidy like she practiced. The skirt of her dress is the same shade of red as her lips. Black dots pattern the fabric of the skirt. The bodice was black- matching her heels. Hooked through her elbows was a creme-colored fur boa.
Bucky’s got his arm around her waist and he ducks down to my level. He holds a pressed black suit, wearing a red undershirt. His suit jacket is hung over his shoulder with his undershirt’s sleeves rolled up. I remember him shining his shoes that day while ________ meticulously placed roses in her hair. Bucky had sewn and hemmed my pants with pride. ‘It’s a special day, punk’, he mumbled with the needle between his lips, ‘can’t have ya trippin’ on your pant legs.’
She shifts again and I’m pulled right back into now. ________ sits in front of me. No smile, no roses, no brightness. And Bucky… Bucky’s dead and gone. Lost a long, long time ago. Slowly, I hold out the photo. “...see?” I mumble, “That’s me… before I… had a growth spurt. And that’s Buck.”
I look up to her. She’s focused on the photo, eyes slightly squinted and head tilted to the side just barely. “...Buck ‘nd you,” I laugh quietly. “He… he was… so crazy about you. He just… never realised it.”
The door behind us cracks open. Her body snaps tightly, eyes back to glazed. Tony peeks his head into the room and tilts it back. “Eyepatch wants you.”
I sigh. Looking back at ________, I tuck the photo into her hand. Slowly, her fingers wrap around it delicately. I nod once and start out of the room. As the door swings shut, I spare one last look. ________ looks down at the photo, her head slightly tilting once more.
“It may be our only option,” Fury sighs. “She’s unpredictable at best.”
“She’s still in there- if I can just… keep talking with her-”
“That is out of the question,” he says firmly, eye flicking up to me. “...you’re too close on this one, Rogers. I’m making the executive decision to-”
Lights start to flash overhead- red and screaming. A wailing buzz rips out of the hallway as the red light bathes us in scarlet. The door slams open, Tony standing in the doorway, panting. Fury slowly gets out of his seat, eye wide.
“She… She got out,” Tony mutters, gesturing outside.
My body launches forward as I run into the hallway. People are running, an anxious chatter swarming around them as they pass just in front of me. As I push into the main hallway, elbows and chests are thrown into me. Flicking to each person, my eyes catch the room where ________ was held. The door is almost completely torn off the hinges- the wood cracked at the handle.
I start to push through the sea of people. Like water, they throw themselves against me- eager to leave the building and get the hell out of harm’s way. But as I make my way to the door and push out the other side of the tempest, I can see the dangling cuffs still hanging around the armrests.
My fingers graze the splintering wood door, tracing the ridges of where her fingers had dug into the wood- leaving grooves in the shape of her hand. The hinges look relatively new as they hang lifelessly off the wall. The debris littering the floor is kicked around, leaving a partial trail down the hallway. I follow with a solid grip on my shield.
“________?” I hiss, looking around the empty hallway. Everything is dimmed by the red lights and the screaming of the alarms haven’t stopped. “________!”
I round a corner and every adrenaline-fueled tension melts away. At the very end of the hallway is a floor-to-ceiling window. Broken glass lays at the base of a gaping hole.
She’s gone.
