we'll always have Paris II Élisa de Almeida x GERWNT! Reader
Tumblr media
masterlist I word count: 1292
a/n: hi, this oneshot was requested, to the one who sent it in, sorry that it took so long.
It was France versus Germany in the half final of the Women’s Nations League. In this match you were playing against a lot of your teammates but also your girlfriend from Paris Saint-Germany. Each team just had finished singing their national hymns, so it was time for you to shake the hands of your opponents.
“Ohh, your amour is starting to walk to us.”, Laura Freigang who was standing right before you in line, turned her face to comment with a huge smirk on her lips.  Much to your own annoyance Sydney Lohmann made kissing noises to highlight the Eintracht Frankfurt players observation.
“Shut it, Lau and Syd.”, you rolled your eyes at them before turning your attention to your girlfriend who was about to take your hands in hers.
“Salut, Élisa.”
“Salut.”, Élisa greeted you accompanied with a boyish wink.
“I’m going to puke!”, Laura who was bad at staying quiet for too long exclaimed jokingly.
“Don’t forget you play for our side because of that French charmer.”, Sydney reminded you grinning.
“I’ll never forget that.”, you replied sincerely.
“They think you’re that unprofessional?”, your girlfriend rose her eyebrows in surprise.
Clearing your throat, you told her:” Get to your position De Almeida. We’re here to play.”
“Whatever you say, mon amour. I’ll make sure to lift my shirt enough times to distract you with my abs.”, she smiled cheekily at you.
“That won’t work, ma chéri.”, you answered confidently.
“We’ll see about that.”
“Good, luck babe.”, you said before you both turned to your starting position on the pitch waiting for the referee to start the match.
During the game, it was still 0:0 at that time, Sara Doorsoun whispered amused into your ear:” Y/n, the abs of your girlfriend, she’s kind of hot.”
“Stop it, Sara and please stay focused.”, you replied laughing.
“I’m focused.”, the older defender stated.
“Good.”, you nodded satisfied.
“But not bad.”
“Sara!”, you yelled at her.
“Just saying.”, she responded sheepishly smiling.
Secretly, you knew that your teammate was right about your girlfriend, but this was an important game and you always wanted to win even if it was against Élisa. Unfortunately, the football match went in favour of the hosts and Germany lost 2:0.
Exhausted you fell onto your knees after the final whistle of the referee. “We lost.”, you muttered more to yourself than to anyone in particular.
“Shit. You still had a good game.”, Laura tried to cheer you up and padded your shoulder encouragingly.
“And don’t forget we’ve another game to qualify for the Olympics.”, Sydney added.
“Yeah, let’s beat the Netherlands.”, Lena Oberdorf sounded motivated.
“Against Jackies team.”, you remarked, the blonde Dutch was one of yours and your girlfriend closest friends in Paris.
Deep in your own thoughts you didn’t hear Élisa coming, only until she spoke directly to you:” You’ll win the next game.”
“Congrats to your win.”, you mumbled.
The French defender thanked you as she helped to lift you from the ground, so you both could look into each other’s eyes.
You swallowed hard, trying to hide your own disappointment: “You played really great.“
“So did you.“, Élisa replied. Her face was serious. Evidence that she actually meant it and wasn’t just trying to cheer you up.
“That’s what Laura said to.“, you told her.
A small smile appeared on your girlfriends face. With a wink, she reached out and tilted your head upwards with her fingers under your chin: “She didn’t lie to you. Now come on, chin up. You’ll win the next game and qualify for the Olympics.“
“Hopefully.“, you sighed. Your girlfriends optimism was lost on you.
“Also, remember, we’ll always have Paris.“, Élisa grinned, quoting the famous line from the movie Casablanca.
You involuntarily snorted about her dumb joke. “Okay, Humphrey Bogart, I’d like my girlfriend back who gives me a hug and a kiss to make up for this loss.“
Élisa looked at you with a smirk: “A hug and a kiss, huh?“
“Yes. You know, we still have a few days in camp left until we’re back in Paris.“, you said, blinking at her with big innocent eyes.
“And you can’t wait for that long.“, your girlfriend concluded.
“No but if you can, I have to join my team now.“ You pointed over your shoulder where Sydney impatiently bounced on her feet and Laura mimed looking at an invisible watch.
“Okay, come here. One quick kiss.“, Élisa smiled and pulled you close.
You quickly pressed your lips to hers while wrapping your arms around her waist.
“See you in Paris.“, you whispered as you pulled apart.
Lena passed the two of you and grimaced in disgust: “Okay, enough hugs and kisses from the wrong team.“
“Obi, you’re awful!“, you laughed.
Still, you gave your girlfriend one last hug goodbye before following your team mate to the rest of the team.
Sydney determinedly shook her head: “No, she did the right thing.“
You were used to their teasing by now so you only rolled your eyes fondly: “If you girls say so.“
“We do!“, Laura said with emphasis.
You smiled. This team was really something very different than Paris Saint-Germain.
Your second game was against the Netherlands. Whoever won this game would be qualified for the Olympics. The stakes were high and everyone knew it. But your team put on a brilliant performance, beating the Oranje Leeuwinnen with 2:0.
After extensive celebrations the night of the game, you arrived at your apartment in Paris on the next day.
“Hi, I’m home!“, you called, letting your suitcase drop right on the floor. You were still exhilarated from the win.
Élisa appeared from the kitchen: “Hi.“
You crossed the distance to her quickly and jumped right into her arms: “We’re going to the Olympics!“
Laughing, she tried to hold her balance: “I know, I’m so happy for you.“
“Poor Jackie though remind me to invite her to dinner soon.”, you sighed empathetically.
“She’ll be fine, trust me. That’s football. You win some, you lose some. No one should know that better than you.”, the defender reminded you while carrying you to the sofa to place you down on it.
“Yes, it was really a rollercoaster ride.”, you admitted as your girlfriend sat down next to you.
“But with a happy ending.”, Élisa grinned at you.
“Right.”, you nodded enthusiastically.
“Can’t wait to go to Paris with you.”, she muttered.
“Actually, that’s great, we’re already there.”, you joked laughing.
“I meant at the final of the Olympics and you know that.”, the French player corrected you.
Her mentioning the end game made your cheeks turn hot: “I know but I couldn’t resist.”
“The qualification clearly has gotten to your head.”, Élisa teased you.
Swiftly you changed the topic away from football: “So, what should we do now?”
“Oh, I have a few ideas.”, the dark-haired woman answered with a dirty smile on her lips.
“Does this involve the bedroom?”, you asked her cheekily.
“Absolutely.”
“I like that a lot.”, you confessed. The weeks away from each other due to national team duties always made you hungry for your lover’s touch, you could feel the sexual tension rise in air.
“Follow me then.”, Élisa said, holding her hand up for you to grasp it before leading you to your shared bedroom. Seeing the bottle of red wine on the nightstand and the rose petals on the bed send you thrills of excitement through your body.
You might have lost against her in the nations league game, but you knew you won her heart as you followed her to bed, awaiting the kisses and touches you both have missed. Knowing deep inside that Paris and the women you loved were always worth coming back to.

A/N : For the story of Lewis Hamilton, I drew inspiration from the romantic relationship between Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall that blossomed when they worked together for the first time. I wanted to portray it in the world of F1. Additionally, Lewis Hamilton has been a staunch supporter of female racers for many years, making him a fitting figure to play a significant role in supporting Reader to become an F1 driver. I hope you'll enjoy it.

As Armand watches Lestat perform onstage, the camera tightens on Zaman’s face, which slowly begins to bloom open with longing, like a long-dormant bud of an elegant carnivorous plant that can only unfurl under the right, highly temperamental conditions. His expression shifts symphonically from amused to intrigued, before getting stark with hunger. The vulnerability in his eyes is exquisite and excruciating, conveying the stirring of an ancient god encountering the one being for whom he would gladly unburden himself of his power.

[All Thomas Hunt x Alex Spencer Masterlists] [All things Alex]
Book: Red Carpet Diaries / Hollywood U Husband: Thomas Hunt Children: Felicity, Vincent, Bogart (dog) Face Claim: Katherine McPhee (RCD FC)
*Alex began as a main character, but has become an original character now It only took almost 5 years to make a character page for her 🙈
What's in a Name?~ Alexandra Rose Spencer
Alexandra
Origin: Greek, feminine form of Alexander, derived from alexein
Meaning: "defender of men"
Why I chose it: I adore the name Alex and all variations of the name. It's one of my favorites which is why I chose it for my pen name... I have a complete unpublished manuscript from several years ago. Maybe one day I'll do something with it, but until then, I decided to give Alex her name because it means something to me
Rose
Origin: Latin
Meaning: rose, a flower
Why I chose it: My grandmother's name was Rose, when she passed I decided to remember her through Alex by giving her Rose as a middle name
Spencer
Origin: English
Meaning: derived from the Old French despensier, a steward
Why I chose it: One of my favorite TV shows of all time is Psych, so I gave her the last name Spencer after Shawn Spencer.
Nicknames: primarily Alex, she did try going by Lexi and Lex when she was in middle school, but decided they weren't for her
The Basics
Birthday: March 6 Zodiac: Pisces Personality: Artistic, Creative, Idealistic, Adaptable, Generous, Empathetic, Romantic, Trusting, Compassionate, Dreamy, Procrastinates, Avoids Conflict, Too Trusting Sexuality: bisexual

Laura had some complications during her pregnancy and childbirth so her and Henry didn't want to risk another. They were okay with it, because they loved Alex with all they were.
Unfortunately, Henry had a sudden and unexpected heart attack when Alex was 12 and passed away. It was hard for Alex and her mom. Alex turned her pain into her drama and theatre performances. Through the friends she made there, she found an amazing support system.
Laura is a nurse. Henry was an architect.
Education
HWU AU: Hollywood U
RCD AU: Tisch School of the Arts at NYU* *Don't hold me to that, I had a different school in mind, but at Tisch she could have met Olivia who was going to NYU at the same time and CoffeeShopAU!Ellie (if I ever finish it) who grew up in Brooklyn. Tisch would give me a gateway to bring those ladies into my RCD world. Current version of Ellie exists in my HWU universe!

La La Land (Unexpected Musical) — PattyCake Productions music video
youtube
The movie musical La La Land is set in the modern day, but with the aesthetics of the 1950s. The PattyCake guys decided to lean even further into the trappings of Hollywood's golden age to evoke the stars of the early 20th century in their most iconic roles, as well as the many folks behind the scenes who help make the magic happen. They didn't quite have a cast of thousands, as was often boasted by the epic films of the era, but they did gather quite the crowd of performers, mostly from among their circle of theme park friends.
Details:
title: Unexpected Musicals — La La Land (Classic Edition)
performers: Olivia Adkins (Marilyn Monroe); Rachel Copeland-Evans (Judy Garland); Monica Carlile Edwards (Audrey Hepburn); Felix Deneau (Humphrey Bogart); Erin Cline (Bette Davis); Derek Ostrem (James Dean); Colleen Ella Defeo (Gloria Swanson / Elsa Lanchester); Bebe Caliberr Mercy (Elizabeth Taylor); Elijah Babel (Charlie Chaplin); Jack Defeo (Boris Karloff); T. Robert Pigott, David Kotary, & Jacob McAlister (directors); Amy Garton (wardrobe); Hannah Laird (script supervisor); Jaimz Dillman (reporter); Greg Hernandez (lighting grip); Melanie Simpson (ingenue); Jim Harrison (camera loader); E. Michael Evans (leading man); Jonathan Shane Ferrell (makeup artist); Laura Mansoori & Alex Colvin (showgirls); Deanna Quintero (hairdresser); Brayshawna Bates (flapper starlet)
original songs / performers: "Another Day of Sun", "Someone in the Crowd", and "City of Stars" by the cast of La La Land (2016)
written by: all songs by Justin Hurwitz, Benj Pasek, & Justin Paul
arranged by: Paul Vesco, Layne Stein, & Tony Wakim
release date: 22 July 2017
My favorite bits:
that brief Flectcher cameo 🐶
Olivia's perfectly breathy Marilyn voice
the contrast of having "Another Day of Sun" mostly led by the stars while "Someone In the Crowd" is mostly the crew
the instrumentation adding more jaunty piano to accompany Chaplin's dancing
the film clip interlude that includes "Will.of.Oz" footage, then turns back into live performance
gradually building rhythmic and harmonic complexity until they reach the final unison line
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Trivia:
Rachel had first worn the blue gingham dress as Dorothy Gale in PattyCake's "Will.of.Oz" music video, which was released the previous December.
Olivia was already well versed in Marilyn Monroe's mannerisms, since she is a character she'd been playing for several years at Universal Studios Orlando (and has continued playing since).
Felix often works as a Dean Martin impersonator, but stepping into Bogey's trenchcoat and fedora for the day suited him, too.
Derek is one of Tony's fellow "Beetlejuice Revue" alumni, having played both Wolfman and Dracula for the last decade of the show's run. (He's also married to Stephanie Trilli, who has played Sarah Sanderson in PattyCake's "Hocus Pocus" pieces.)
Robby was also one of the many Draculas in the "Beetlejuice Revue", and he's been playing Marlin in the Disney World "Nemo" live show for over a decade. (Among many, many theme park and theater roles.)
Makeup artist Jonathan Shane Ferrell of Makeup & Creative Arts was actually applying the Frankenstein makeup to Jack Defeo's face while also playing legendary makeup artist Jack Pierce, who worked with Karloff on the 1931 film. Jonathan had been a makeup artist for the "Beetlejuice Revue" at the end of its run.
Jack and Colleen were also already comfortable in the monster makeup, as they are yet more "Beetlejuice Revue" alumni, having played Frankenstein and the Bride in the 90s and early 2000s.
The PattyCake guys created a bit of anticipation with a social media countdown.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
They were very specific about recreating several famous celebrity photos and iconic movie moments. They highlighted some of them in a series of social media posts they called "Double Takes".

Fallen Angel
Tumblr media
Director Otto Preminger Stars Alice Faye, Dana Andrews, Linda Darnell USA 1946 Language English 1hr 38mins Black & white
Well-textured small-town noir
It’s late night on a long-distance bus up the California coast. In a nowhere town called Walton, the driver bounces a passenger who doesn’t have the fare to get to San Francisco but was hoping to stay unnoticed.
Tumblr media
This is Eric (Dana Andrews), and it’s soon clear he’s a grifter. He fetches up at a small diner where the owner and the regulars are worried about the waitress, who has gone missing. When she does turn up, it seems that their concern isn’t purely innocent as Stella (Linda Darnell) is, as they used to say, a knockout and a little too much for Walton. Eric falls just as hard as the rest. Pretty soon he’s trying to figure out out how to hustle up enough cash to make him a serious contender for her attention…
Tumblr media
And that’s as far as I want to describe the plot, even though we haven’t yet introduced top-billed Alice Faye, who plays June.
While there is one ingredient in the story that felt obvious pretty early, the rest surprised me. As I have written before, there’s a game you can play with classic film noirs of guessing what – considering the production code – they will let the characters get away with. This one had me stumped.
The year before, Andrews had starred in Laura, a great film directed, like this one, by Otto Preminger. In Laura, he plays a tough detective investigating a murder in fashionable society, sometimes feeling he’s bossing these fops around, at others a bit out of his depth.
Tumblr media
Fallen Angel has him in a very different situation, as a man with no power living on his wits. I never think, ‘Ah, I’m looking forward to seeing what Dana Andrews does in this movie’, but he was the male lead in a bunch of excellent noirs. He looked like he could take a punch, land a punch and has a rough charm. He’s clearly not on a level with Bogart or Robert Mitchum or Robert Ryan, but I guess he fits alongside Alan Ladd and above, say, Victor Mature. Preminger certainly seems to have valued him – this is one of four they made together but he’s also in Fritz Lang, Elia Kazan and Howard Hawks movies.
One thing I found interesting here is the portrayal of the travelling psychic who Eric teams up with briefly. The movies, by and large, want to believe in the supernatural (and magic, and aliens). But here the ‘psychic’, in the manly safe space of the diner, is happy to discuss the tools of the con.
Tumblr media
Fallen Angel is a film that deftly uses elements that could in other hands be clanging: the contrast between seedy waterfront and prissy suburbs (and the women from these places), the sense that the big city is geographically so near yet still unreachable…
I like a lot of the films Preminger made in the 1950s and ‘60s, but they got very, very, very long. Under the constraints of the ‘40s, he showed he could tell a full story in an admirable 100 minutes. And that’s a great thing.

What are your pixelated people doing for Thanksgiving?
Oliva gave birth to Malia on Thanksgiving so she and Bryce spent the day in the hospital 💖💖💖
Mal and Daenarya spent the day with their adopted children and friends, as well as Mal's sister and her wife. They had a special celebration at the orphanage and people came out to help support the children and make sure all of them had some attention and love. One of them made a special bond with a visitor and was later adopted!
Thomas, Alex, Bogart and the twins, had a family dinner and shared all the ways they were blessed. They also donated money, food, and their time to a local food pantry to help prepare for the holiday.
Levi, Laura, and Lily (and Levi + Laura's son who I still haven't named 🙈) celebrated the day with an intimate dinner and then a game night.
Thanks for the ask 💖

Your Twin Peaks fun fact of the day
Day #21
Hey I'm back!
Fact #1
I found out there's another list to the names of Twin Peaks characters that are references to film noir movies. This time it's Windom Earle. Harley Peyton, Twin Peaks writer and producer, created the name from the actor William Windom and Earle from Humphrey Bogart's character in High Sierra, Mad Dog Roy Earle.
Fact #2
In Germany broadcaster RTL canceled the show after 20 episodes because its rival station SAT 1 revealed the spoiled the identity of Laura Palmer's killer. A German media outlet called it “the worst spoiler in their country’s history.”

Portrait of Laura Hunt (1944) by Frank Powolny, et al
Frank Powolny was head photographer at 20th Century Fox for over 40 years. During his tenure as a portrait and set photographer, he shot dozens of famous faces, including Shirley Temple, Betty Grable, Humphrey Bogart and Marilyn Monroe. He created this this image of Gene Tierney, which was then painted over by the props team at 20th Century Fox, for the movie Laura.

Sure!
So, the elephant in the room with Beauty and the Beast in WWII is that it takes place in France, which was under partial or complete Nazi occupation from 1940 till 1944 (and when the occupation was partial there was a Nazi puppet government in the unoccupied part). I think in order for the plot to remain intact it has to be either transposed to a stable Allied or neutral country (at least for me as an Anglophone the US, Canada, or the UK are the obvious Allied options, Ireland the obvious neutral option) or a specific part of rural France without much Nazi presence (the primarily-Calvinist villages in the mountains south of the Loire come to mind; some were outright Resistance-controlled). Resistance Belle and Milice Gaston is a believable setup, but it seems in poor taste to me so my personal preference would be to transpose the plot to North America or the British Isles. Which gives us a ton of fun clothing options, especially for Belle, who would ABSOLUTELY work in a war industry:
Tumblr media
From Life magazine, an American periodical. Photo by Margaret Bourke-White.
Tumblr media
"Ruby Loftus Screwing a Breech-ring," a British propaganda painting by Laura Knight. In the Imperial War Museum in London.
Or even join the military outright:
Tumblr media
Women's Army Corps recruitment ad from Ladies' Home Journal, another American periodical. From my personal collection of historical ephemera.
A restructuring of the plot where the Beast is someone she meets not in or near her hometown but while she's elsewhere doing war work could be really interesting, although it would intensify something I'm already not crazy about in B&tB, which is the narrative's mostly negative attitude towards Belle's hometown in particular and rural life in general.
As for clothes, the watchwords in WWII fashions are austerity, practicality, and reusability. This sounds pretty boring but the results are still impressive by our standards today given the much more opulent and structured baseline. A few more images from my computer; I'm afraid I can't cite all of these individually but most of them are fairly easy to find in archives of wartime photography and Allied propaganda art.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
These are the ones I can't really cite individually, although there are some clues like the name of the Indiana department store and the fact that one is in the aforementioned IWM collection. I love the one of the woman with the skeet-shooting rifle. The home front really was in its girlboss era in a lot of ways and this fact does significantly inform my interest in the war years, although it runs the risk of being exaggerated by people unwilling to wrestle with the other salient aspects of the period, like the fact that tens of millions of people died.
Tumblr media
Cover of the Australian Home Journal, which as the name implies was much the same sort of magazine as the LHJ mentioned above. These are pretty austere cuts, materials, patterns, and silhouettes compared to styles immediately before and after the war, although "austere" does not mean "modest"; skirts were shorter and proto-bikini two-piece swimsuits came into wide use in this period. If you are a clothing manufacturer and your fabric allowance has been cut by 10% because the military needs more cotton and silk for uniforms, parachutes, and waterproof maps, it's good business to try to make skimpier styles happen.
Tumblr media
Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall in the 1945 film noir The Big Sleep. Bacall's suit is more interestingly patterned and the shoulderpads are impressive--eighties big shoulders were originally forties retro!--but the overall cut and construction are still pretty trim and spare.
Tumblr media
Ingrid Bergman in a photoshoot for advertising Casablanca. The all-white in and of itself was supposed to make an outfit look a bit more formal during the war years. If Belle's community is really getting its civilian economy throttled, she might even wear something similar to this to the ball.
Tumblr media
Or this, if we're going with WAC!Belle. I believe these are historical costumers/reenactors, but everything looks accurate to me.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
More dance photos, one from the BBC, the other from the University of North Texas digital archives. Because sex-segregated workplaces and military formations kept getting moved around, lots of communities ended up with wild gender imbalances. In some places same-sex dancing became normal, in others they rustled up as many members of the "minority" gender as they possibly could and let them into the dance halls for free. To this day interviews with very old British women often have them speaking fondly of the free dances on or near military bases.
However, my personal favorite ballgown option is this:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Teresa Wright in Mrs. Miniver, a British propaganda movie that's widely seen as one of the most undeserving Best Picture Oscar winners of all time, not because it's bad but because 49th Parallel and The Magnificent Ambersons are considered significantly better. I like it, though. Wright's gown is a little too glamorous for most actual wartime situations, but then, B&tB and Mrs. Miniver are both movies with all that movie magic entails.
(Teresa Wright would make a fairly good Belle in general imo; in addition to her acting style, I've read essays calling her "the Anti-Pin-Up Girl" and her studio contract has this in it: "The aforementioned Teresa Wright shall not be required to pose for photographs in a bathing suit unless she is in the water. Neither may she be photographed running on the beach with her hair flying in the wind. Nor may she pose in any of the following situations: In shorts, playing with a cocker spaniel; digging in a garden; whipping up a meal; attired in firecrackers and holding skyrockets for the Fourth of July; looking insinuatingly at a turkey for Thanksgiving; wearing a bunny cap with long ears for Easter; twinkling on prop snow in a skiing outfit while a fan blows her scarf; assuming an athletic stance while pretending to hit something with a bow and arrow." Anybody getting Emma-Watson-as-Belle vibes should know that when Wright did period movies she did wear the same types of costumes as everyone else. Which isn't to say those costumes were good, although we do get some nice eye candy in the regrettably-titled California Conquest.)
I could go on, but I hope this helps, anon!
If Disney’s beauty and the beast took place in during WW2, what would the characters would be wearing? How would the war would’ve effected the plot?
That's not so much my era of expertise, but @monstrousgourmandizingcats would knock this discussion out of the park! MGC, care to take over?
