Is CAA a master plan to remove Muslims from India?
No, the CAA itself is not a master plan to remove Muslims from India. It is a law that provides a path to Indian citizenship for certain religious minorities from neighboring countries. However, concerns have been raised about the combination of the CAA with a nationwide National Register of Citizens (NRC), which could potentially lead to the marginalization of Muslims if they are disproportionately affected by the NRC process.

I think the overall dynamics of the US House of Representatives can be summed up as “middle school cafeteria at lunchtime the week before the Homecoming dance,” while the US Senate can be explained as “two warring frat houses that still frequently meet for passionate orgies.”

Hey friends, countrymen, lovers, etc. this post is just for the Americans out there, but if any of you all need help figuring out what steps you need to take to vote or where to find a voter guide for your region (Ballotopedia is a solid starting point if you want to see what's on your ballot) I'd be happy to help out, just shoot me a message, I can promise I'll find an answer for you in the first case and I'll do my best in the later.
#That said Fellow Californians:#I know prop 33 looks good#And is a good idea generally#But this specific setup of rent control is implemented in such a way as to be gotten around by not building#Which is not workable in our current legislative environment at various municipal levels#Maeamian dot tumblr dot com recommends a NO vote on prop 33#Although it will not fault you for being swayed by the arguements in favor#And it's not unsalvagable if it passes but it will need additional legislative work to protect its intent#Because as is its intent will not see implementation where it is most needed#At least according to the people in CA I know and trust to talk about housing issues#This isn't from firsthand expertise but I trust the experts I got it from#(Michael Tae Sweeny on bsky dot app among others)#ANYHOW the answer in the first case may be travel back in time if you've missed certain deadlines in certain states#But developing time travel will be a fun side project you can do#Also probably don't bother putting in your email on ballotpedia but you can if you want#Just like that will get you emails and why would you want more of those#This is not rebloggable because it does not apply to people who are not followers#Although anyone who follows is welcome doesn't have to be mutuals

#feeling so entirely disillusioned with life rn#the current ai situations is already shitty but the true ai wave hasn't even started yet. we have no idea whats coming but we are so fucked#at least a quarter of all the software job postings are for AI development now#if we're in capitalism hell rn then we're about to enter mega hell#i was only feeling a little depressed today after job searching but then#i went on youtube & was hit with the memory of what yt used to be before 2010#& seeing all those slick & shiny hd seo-optimized yt thumbnails suddenly disgusted me#but ai is about to make the internet a whole lot worse#ai is about to make art a whole lot worse - and not just visual arts. ALL the arts#(sf ballet (aka. the most prestigious ballet company on the west coast & who plays to 3k+ ppl per night) has no fucking artistic solidarity#& designed all their commercial art for the nutcracker this past xmas using ai)#ai is about to make the job market a whole lot worse#i don't want to be a raging fear-mongering type of person but i am extremely pessimistic & depressed about the future#or the near future anyways. i'm hoping that once the consequences of unrestricted ai reveal themselves further#that legislators will finally start taking it seriously & start doing something to protect workers from it#but somehow i feel it will be too little too late#personal post

the kids are all right and all, but millennials on tumblr really need to stop acting like saying "wow, kids today sure have silly trends" or even "actually i'm concerned about genuinely conservative mentalities being propped up as leftist politics among the youths" is the same as white middle class boomers destroying the economy by continually falling for reactionary moral panics and in turn voting for more and more conservative policies that will inevitably make the planet unlivable.
#i do think some of what people get riled up about is not a big deal and is actually extremely normal behavior for teenagers#making up arbitrary rules to follow to understand their relationship to their peers is just a normal stage of adolescent development#impulsivity and not having a strong grasp of consequences outside of the immediate is normal#that being said saying “pop music is bad now” is NOT the same as passing very real legislation based on fake fears about ''crack babies''#and ''super predators'' and ''trickle down economics'' and ''the patriot act''#also pop music has always been mostly bad#dont boo me im right

firewatch y random cool obscure science facts that i didnt know anything about
honestly that's exactly what i expected LOL
#science tidbit of the day:#recent research suggests that the global impact of lead poisoning is on par with PM2.5 air pollution#which is. massive#except that the general public are /somewhat/ aware of smog and air pollution being bad#whereas 90% of people i speak to have no clue that lead poisoning still exists as a thing#this is the global impact though; most of this impact will be in developing countries that have no legislation on lead#than it will be in the U.S. for example#BUT! it is still a thing in the U.S.#quara asks#that was a not-so-cool fact sorry it was actually quite depressing

#it's morbidly fascinating how differently ive reacted to the recent anti-trans legislation compared to others#i don't think i ever really saw cis people as being on our side. and in general people who arent queer very very rarely will stand up for#us when it comes down to it i think#and ive never really lost that perception of 'it's us queers vs the world' unlike many people who've actually like experienced acceptance#(or at least a lack of extreme discrimination).#idk. for many this is a horrifying new development for me this is horrifying but not new. the veils just been pushed aside#cw transphobia#(to clarify im referring to cis people as a whole privileged group ive met individual cis people who are incredible allies)

The correction isn't entirely accurate. I'm a student of environmental science, so here's my understanding from my classes:
Well-built solar panels can last up to 50 years, but are usually only warrantied for 25-30.
You can keep using less efficient solar panels, and they're often resold at lower prices for end-of-life usage.
Solar panel waste is absolutely not more toxic than nuclear waste. However, it does often contain heavy metals like lead and cadmium that can be dangerous to human health in high enough concentration. So, depending on local laws & the composition of the specific solar panel, solar panel waste may or may not be classified as hazardous waste.
Solar panel waste is, unfortunately, not easy to recycle. Their layered structure makes efficiently separating the components difficult, and it's currently cheaper to landfill them. However, as solar panels age, more and more places are developing techniques and legislating recycling! The future is bright!
The concern about solar waste being sent to poorer countries? It's a real problem. However, that doesn't mean we shouldn't make solar panels, as this guy seems to be insinuating - we just need to plan their end of life better. We have the tools!
#hopfully this is useful to someone!#i only cited the developing countries bit because that was the only bit i found a proper source for#everything else is school stuff. i tried to keep it general#so frustrating when someone arguing for something i disagree with (solar bad) brings up a good point (solar waste needs better handling)#like. yes. but the solution is better recycling funding and legislation. not ditching solar entirely

High Land Value, High Water, and The State’s Investment
High Land Value, High Water, and The State’s Investment October 22, 2024 By Kimberly Mann Investment in our country always sounds like an excellent idea and opportunity for growth but pitfalls may include higher property taxes due to large acreage bought at higher than normal prices, higher water bills, and very little if any benefit due to expenditure-return ratio. Indiana has spent more…

Tuesday, September 3, 2024 - Tim Walz
Governor Walz and Governor Kelly continued their swing through the midwest today and focused on the state of Missouri, a state we know is a long shot in terms of electoral map, but that we view as important in the America of tomorrow under a Harris-Walz Administration. The 'official' schedule of today's events is below.
Joplin, MO Event Location: Missouri Southern State University Spiva Library Event Type: Listening Tour Event Time: 8:00 - 11:00 CT *This listening tour was focused on primary and secondary teachers, principals, and librarians from across the state. The state of Missouri has attacked our rights to books, by trying to restrict funding to libraries and instating book bans. This affects education and Governor Walz views this group as an important constituency. The event garnered over 200 attendees and many stories were shared.
Springfield, MO Event Location: Missouri State University Event Type: Get Out the Vote Event Time: 13:00 - 16:00 CT *Governor Walz focused on-campus with student volunteers and Governor Kelly focused off-campus with democrat campaign volunteers for the region. Mail-in ballots and voter registration were major topics with students. Additionally, we had a small lunch with some students and connected them with student social media ambassadors for our campaign via Zoom.
Rolla, MO Event Location: Missouri S&T Gibson Arena Event Type: Campaign Rally Event Time: 19:00 - 21:00 CT *Full-text of the speech from this rally will be released shortly.
