august | l.n
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
summary: you were never mine ; aka the one where the summer fling comes crashing down, but after an unexpected face in the media pen, lando is left questioning why he ever left.
warnings: pretend lando got a later start in formula one, summer flings, slight brothers best friend!lando, reader ends up working in the industry, kinda second chance romance vibes, fluff, hints of angst if you squint, and mentions of sexual content. i had to cut this short because it was getting super long, so if you want a part two to this make sure to let me know :) anyways, happy august, my loves 🤍 may your air be salty and the rust be on your doors.
listen | masterlist
summer: your favorite time of the year. where you’d spend your days outside, salt heavy in the air and the cool ocean breeze whisking away all your problems. your few months of peace where nothing else in the world mattered more than sitting on the beach by the ocean during the day and sitting by the cozy bonfire after the sun had finally set.
peaceful, until you had met him.
getting swept off your feet by the boy your brother had befriended was the last thing on your mind. but nonetheless, you had. his charming smile with cute dimples had you head over heels. moles charting his skin like constellations making him so much prettier. you’d be lying if you said he wasn’t breathtaking, laying on the lounge chair with his curls sitting almost perfectly against his forehead. so unaware at how your eyes danced over his figure behind your sunglasses.
a perfect example of beautiful chaos.
him and his siblings had gotten close to you and your brother, thankful for there to be people their age in the small costal town to befriend. you mostly kept to yourself and his sisters in efforts to push the crush you had quickly developed down. not wanting to start something that could never be finished. not wanting to put your heart on the line just for something to yank him from your grasps.
but after a week or so, you had caved in. getting to know him better every day. he had told you about his life back home, how he was a racer. wanting to make it to formula one, race amongst legends. you had told him about your studies in university, wanting to pursue journalism and things of that nature.
he listened with interest. being the only person who sounded interested in you talking about it, not like the others who had given quick responses when you had told them before. a change that brought a smile to your face and warmed your heart because he actually cared.
he had you opening up to him like a book, wanting nothing more than to understand the beautiful soul that stood in front of him. shared laughs and talks in the kitchen of your family’s vacation home echoing off the walls. sharing your deepest secrets, sharing stories about your youth that normally, you’d cringe about, but he found adorable.
and the two of you got closer, a bond forming between you. lingering glances and touches sending sparks through your bodies. and talks in the kitchen turned into conversations by the fire pit on nights where it’d just be the two of you. weeks of learning about each other. the weeks passed by quickly, and after the first month out of three he had known you like the back of his hand. and you had known everything there was to know about lando norris.
after a couple more weeks of subtle flirting and lingering glances, he had finally grown the courage to ask you what had been prodding at him since the moment he met you.
“can i take you out sometime?”
and like that, all your previous statements about not getting too attached, not wanting something for the sake of it being yanked away, was out the window. you met his green eyes, sparkling in the glow of the bonfire in front of you, a smile on your face as you spoke.
“sure.”
he pulled out all the stops. making reservations for the fancy restaurant downtown and bringing you flowers that had caught his eye in the shop window on the way back from his morning jog. a gesture that made you smile ear to ear and your heart beat quicken. a gesture that made you feel truly loved.
the first date turned into many more. wether it was getting dinner or ice cream in town, or heading towards the beach at sundown to watch the waves crash against the shore. the weeks carried on and you had dinner with his family, all of them ecstatic that he had found someone like you who loved their son the way they did.
you still remembered the day he had written against your skin. your stomach flat against the towel on the sand, back facing the sun that was slowly being swallowed by the ocean as the moon threatened to shine. he was propped up on his elbow, tracing shapes into your skin.
he drew with his fingers and you laughed softly, humming, “hmm, a star?”
he nodded, voice soft as he spoke again, “okay, i have one more. they’re words this time. ready?”
you hummed in approval, his index finger drawing a straight line against your spine.
i.
“i,” you said.
he nodded, writing out the next word.
love.
you furrowed your eyebrows as he drew the ‘e’, “love?”
“yeah,” he said, “last word, put them together.”
your heart squeezed against your chest as he wrote out the final word.
you.
you sat up, meeting his eyes, “you?”
he nodded again, smiling as he tucked the lose strand of hair away from your face.
“i love you.” it sounded heavenly coming from his lips.
you blinked at him, a smile finding its way to your lips, “i love you, too.”
you had pulled him closer by his neck, pressing your lips to his. his hand cupping your cheek, the two of you breaking away when the smiles had taken over your face, too wide to continue the kiss.
“c’mon,” you smiled, getting up from the towel. he followed your lead with a questioning look as you grabbed your bag, throwing it over your shoulder as the other hand grabbed your sandals. taking off towards the private entrance to the beach the lovely vacation home had come with.
“where’re you going?” he laughed, following you anyway. chasing after you with the towel in his hand.
“come find out!”
and he did, following you back up to the house. once he caught up, you were inside and up the stairs. you shut the door behind him, pulling him closer to you as your back pressed against the white wooden door.
“what’re you up to?” he smirked, letting your hands snake around his neck as his found their home on your hips.
“well, no one’s gonna be back for another couple hours,” you trailed on. he smiled, shaking his head.
“absolute minx.”
you smiled, reaching up and pressing your lips against his. he had immediately taken control, his hands moving to the back of your thighs before you understood that he wanted you to jump. he caught you with ease, never letting his lips leave yours as your legs wrapped around his torso, walking back towards your bed before he laid you down carefully.
you smiled as he climbed over you, leaving kisses against the exposed skin of your tummy in his path before his face met yours again, nose brushing against yours, “i love you.”
“i love you, too.”
your hands roamed the skin of his back as his squeezed your hips before he pulled away, breathless.
“you’re sure?” he asked softly, “i don’t want this to be something you regret.”
you nodded, reaching behind you and pulling at the ties of your bikini top, tossing it to the side. he watched you with love filled eyes, mouth agape as your head hit the pillows again. a hand coming to rest against his cheek.
“i’m sure,” you smiled, “i love you, lando.”
and after that, you’d often find yourself twisted in your bedsheets with him. your head against his bare chest as your nails drew shapes into his skin. his lips leaving soft kisses to your hairline.
after one specific night, you had fallen asleep against him when he got the call. softly moving you to your side of the bed before walking towards the connected bathroom. the call he had been desperately waiting for.
it was finally his moment. he was making it big.
“can you be here monday?”
he glanced down at the date on his phone. it was two days from now. he’d never make it unless he left now.
he glanced back into the bedroom where your sleeping figure laid, head resting against the pillow as you slept peacefully. he swallowed, immediately feeling guilty. he should wake you up.
“lando?”
“hmm?” he quickly snapped back to the phone call, “sorry, uhm, you said monday?”
“yeah, just to sign some things. do some press, show you around, that sort of thing.”
he took a deep breath, “okay, yeah. sure, sounds good. i’ll see you monday.”
“see you monday,” zak brown’s voice was warm on the other end, “safe travels.”
lando pressed the red button with shaky hands, shoving his phone into the pockets of his sweatpants as he walked back into the bedroom. he grabbed his hoodie off the end of the bed, immediately feeling regret as he looked over your peaceful state. how you were unaware that he was about to leave and never come back.
and with a gentle kiss to your forehead and a mumbled, “i love you,” to your hair, he walked out of the room. walked right out of your life just as quick as he had entered it.
when you woke up the next morning confused that he was no longer with you in your bed. you tried to call, but no answer. you were met with silence. even in your texts you were met with the ‘delivered’ at the bottom of each one. tears flowing down your cheeks as you were left wondering what you had done for him to disappear. to pretend like you were never a thing.
it wasn’t until the fall that you had seen his face again. this time on an instagram post from mclaren. announcing him as a full time driver. he wore a smile, the same floppy curls you had loved, were still messy. hitting against his forehead. he had finally got what he wanted.
and the years went on, you continued to see him pop up every so often. celebrating podium placements and achievements, finally living the life he wanted. the life he had suddenly chose that no longer included you.
he had checked in on you every so often, too. smiling softly when your face popped up on his screen as he’d scroll through your account. you had the life you wanted too, graduating from university and smiling at the camera as you held your diploma. the hard work you had put in finally paying off and meaning something.
he lost track at the amount of messages he had typed out and deleted in your dms. lost track of all the times he had wished he had told you, lost track of the different outcomes he had came up where the ending had you in it. even after convincing himself you were better off out of this lifestyle, he couldn’t help but wish you were.
the knocking on his drivers room had pulled him out of his thoughts, swiping out of your instagram account as the woman smiled sweetly in the doorway.
“they want you for media.”
he nodded, tossing his phone to the couch, tying the papaya race suit around his waist and slipping the mclaren cap back onto his curls, sporting it backwards as he followed the woman down the hallway.
“where’s oscar?”
“he’s already there,” she said sweetly, “hasn’t been there long, though. only a few minutes.”
he nodded, smiling politely at the woman before entering the media pen. she guided him to the opening, smiling before stepping to the side. he took a sip from his water bottle, smiling at the camera man who tapped your shoulder to get your attention. an apologetic smile on your face as you spoke, turning towards the fence, “sorry-“
the same green eyes met yours and the both of you stood in shock for a moment. sure, you had known you were going to bump into him eventually, but on your first day? was the media pen really lacking that many reporters?
“y/n?” he asked, voice soft as your heart hit the floor.
you swallowed, gripping your notepad a little harder as you sent him a tight lipped smile, “hi,”
“since when do you,” he stammered, tripping over his own words before taking a breath, “since when do you work for sky?”
“todays my first day, actually,” you said, a nervous smile on your face, and if he noticed, he thankfully didn’t mention it, “i see mclaren’s been treating you well.”
“y/n, can we-“
“let’s get started, yeah?” you dodged his question, glancing down at your notebook. he nodded softly in response and you motioned for your camera man to begin recording.
as you stood there asking him questions about his race, all he could think about was if you had wondered the same things he did. if you, too, laid awake at night and thought about all the different scenarios and lifetimes where the two of you ended up together. he wondered if you hated him for how he left you, without a proper goodbye.
he didn’t know it, but you could never hate him. even after all these years you couldn’t hate him with a single bone in your body. not when your heart still beats for him.
he opened his mouth to speak after you ended the interview, but it shut quickly as the woman in papaya cut off his thoughts, whisking him away to do more interviews. you watched as he left, a sad and regretful look on his face as he made his way to the next reporter.
“you alright?” your camera man asked, noticing how you chewed on your bottom lip. a nervous tick of yours that everyone seemed to have caught onto.
you nodded, straightening your posture and taking a deep breath, pushing every thought you had to the side berore smiling at the man next to you, “yep, who do we have next?”

I had been looking at the theories about what Sylus is, and I took it upon myself to use my nerdy powers to research, look for relationships between things and an explanation, this is still a theory, I don't have the absolute truth.
Caution contains spoilers
The first thing we have to take into account is the meaning of his name, Sylus is a diminutive of the Greek name Silouanus, derived from the Latin name Silvanus, from silva, which means "forest".
With this we can look for a root within the Greek mythology, among the myths there are two that we can highlight:
1. Cronos, Cronos is the name of the King of the Titans who dethroned his father Uranus and whom we know as "Father Time", who is represented with his relentless sickle and accompanied by a crow.
2. Apollo, Apollo fell in love with the daughter of a king, whom he courted and fell in love with and got pregnant, however Apollo had to travel and left his beloved but to protect her he left a crow following her everywhere, however the woman cheated on Apollo with another man and according to interpretations Apollo or his sister, Artemis, kill her but save the baby who was Asclepius, God of medicine.
However these are very noble associations for the Sylus Backstory, so we can also consider Hades or Ares.
In the case of Hades, crows were considered his faithful companions and guardians of the underworld. It was believed that these dark birds accompanied the god on his travels through the realm of the dead and acted as his eyes and ears in the underworld. Their presence was seen as a symbol of the connection between the world of the living and the dead. The crow of Hades was considered a symbol of protection and good omen. Its presence in the world of the living was believed to be a sign that Hades was watching over and protecting those who were loyal to him. On the other hand, it was also thought that the crow of Hades could punish those who defied the established order and dared to challenge the god of the underworld.
On the other hand, Ares, the god of war, also had a close relationship with the crows. These birds were considered his allies and were associated with violence and death on the battlefield. Their presence was interpreted as a harbinger of war and bloodshed.
Crows occupy a prominent place in Greek mythology as divine messengers and bearers of omens.
Now on to the favorite child, Mephisto.
Mephistopheles (also called Mephisto and other variants) is a demon of German folklore. Mephistopheles is commonly regarded as a minion of Satan charged with capturing souls, or else as a type character of Satan himself.
Mephistopheles is associated with the Faust legend of an ambitious scholar, based on the historical Johann Georg Faust. In the legend, Faust makes a deal with the Devil at the price of his soul, with Mephistopheles acting as the Devil's agent.
So we can think that Sylus, like Zayne, has some relationship with some kind of god, a god of death, war or time, which if we think of various gods there are many that represent more than one thing like Sekhmet who was the goddess of war, the drunkenness and of the medicine or the goddess Tiamat, the goddess of the creation and the Chaos, so we can consider that inside the universe of LADS The god representative of Sylus is the god of the time, the war and death and for that reason we are in a cycle of eternal reincarnation between to live, to fight and to die, and assuming that was the case it could be a matter of a fight between gods, Astra vs. The god of Sylus, both want the Aether protocore which has ended up in MC's hands time and time again. However Sylus like Apollo, fell in love and instead of taking the Aether from her, has protected her with Mephisto, keeping surveillance over her, but as Mephisto is in charge of always watching MC he knows everything she does where she goes and who she relates with, that way Sylus knew that MC was looking to enter the N109 and as in the legend thanks to Mephisto MC manages to make a deal with Sylus who would be like "Satan" or the "bad guy".
Within the game with Sylus reference is made to both things with Sylus, when "the monster with wings and horns" appears people die but for MC it is a symbol of protection.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And Sylus probably knows what is going on, in the last chapter they have released when MC tells Sylus that she saw something he deflects the conversation and doesn't give it importance, which is suspicious.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
So we can think that Sylus, is some kind of demigod, one that being related to bad things like death and war is satanized as a demon, like Hades who in mythology did not do anything bad but in the present time if you look for a villain of Greek mythology it is always Hades, so this explains many things about Sylus.

Over Mountains Cold
Tumblr media
Kili Durin x Reader
Words: 4931
Summary: On a quest for your family, you and your traveling companion get caught in a winter storm in the Grey Mountains. Your true feelings for your best friend come to light when you struggle to make it through the chilling night.
Notes: The heater in my room is broken and the image of cuddling with Kili to get warm is just really nice to me, okay? I will use Aidan Turner to dissociate before I contact ever maintenance. (also, why can’t I just write fluff? Why does there have to be the angsty backstory of losing siblings? The world may never know)
Warnings: Kind of a chaotic plot. An ungodly amount of sexual tension. I don’t make the rules.
-
Fili gave a final wave as he disappeared over the ridge, taking the ponies with him. His brother tried to calm the pit in his stomach. Not only was Fili off to retrieve more supplies alone, but the cold was setting in. If he didn’t make it to the next village by the time the snow started, he would get stuck out here.
Just like you were.
“We should go,” You sighed. “We’ll want to set up camp before it gets dark and I want to search the foothills to the east before the sun goes down.”
Kili looked up at the sky. “It’s going to be a cold night.” Already, his breath came out in puffs from his lips. “Maybe we should stay here until morning. It’s lower, so it’ll be warmer and the snow hasn’t reached us yet.”
You stiffened and turned determined eyes towards him. “I won’t waste any time. If there’s a chance of finding my sisters out here, I’m taking it.”
You waited for him to argue or tell you how foolish you were. Winter was on the horizon and these mountains would be impassable in the coming weeks. But your friend merely gave you a small smile and put a hand on your shoulder.
“Then lead the way.”
You wanted to kiss him. Well, you often wanted to kiss him, but in that moment, with his eyes full of trust and belief in you, no words could express your gratitude. But, coward that you were, you settled for a pat on the arm and an awkward nod.
“Right. Follow me.” You hurried away from him before you could do something stupid.
You’d known the dwarven princes for most of your life. Having grown up near the Blue Mountains, you spent a lot of time with Durin’s folk, listening to their stories, celebrating their festivals, and causing a little chaos with your two closest friends. You couldn’t count the times Kili and Fili had gotten you into some kind of trouble, but surely they would say the same thing about you.
The younger prince walked beside you, telling you legends of ridiculous creatures living in these hills, trying to make you smile. It worked, of course. Between his grin and a bit of theatricality, he never failed to lighten your moods.
Kili was your best friend. He was there for every prank, every adventure, and every heartbreak. When your village was attacked by raiders three years ago, he spent weeks tending to your injuries and trying to hunt down the people who’d hurt you.
That’s when they were taken. Your two older sisters, Maryina and Baeriel. Sometime during the battle, those foul men came to your home and stole them away. You were nearly killed trying to defend them. Everyone told you they were dead. Even your parents didn’t have the heart to keep looking after so long, but you wouldn’t give up. You knew they were alive. Kili was the only one who believed you.
“Do you remember what you told me?” You asked suddenly.
Kili turned his head, hazel-brown eyes bright in the afternoon sun. His brows furrowed with curiosity.
You elaborated. “When I said I was going to find them. I said I’d search the whole of Middle Earth if I had to. What did you say?”
Kili beamed. “I said ‘Well, you’re not doing it without me,’” he remembered. “‘You’d get lost.’”
“Exactly,” you laughed. “And, I do believe that you lead us down more a stray path than I, dear friend.”
“But we always found our way in the end, didn’t we?” Kili grinned.
“That we did.”
The two of you fell back into a comfortable silence with something heavier hanging between you.
Grass swayed with dying breaths, green turned to dry white. Ahead, towering peaks capped with snow loomed like a massive, foreboding gate. You watched them with growing unrest. Kili’s shoulder brushed against yours as you walked as if just to remind you he was there.
The afternoon stretched and yawned. The sun began to hover. With every passing hour, the more the light sank, so did your hopes. Your search in the foothills yielded nothing. Not even the remnants of a possible settlement.
“They aren’t here,” you said. You ran a hand down your tired face, eyes scanning the vast landscape, the mountains at your back. You turned to Kili. “What if…”
You’d come here on a rumor that the raiders who took your sisters had a base in the Grey Mountains. But that’s all you had to go off of- rumors.
“It’s the first day.” He gave you a reassuring smile. “We’ll keep looking.” Kili scanned the dense woods at the base of the mountains, hoping for some signal of smoke or any other sign of life. There was nothing. But he wasn’t going to give up hope and he certainly wasn’t going to let you. “Come, let’s set up somewhere to sleep. You must be exhausted.”
“I’m fine,” you grumbled. “But if you’re saying you need to rest, then I suppose we can pitch the tent.”
He rolled his eyes playfully.
“Last one to the trees gathers firewood,” he challenged. The mischievous dwarf took off before you had the chance to process what he said.
“Hey!” You called after him and ran as fast as your legs could carry.
-
Usually, the three of you always camped out under the stars, but knowing how cold it would be, you brought a tent to provide a little shelter. But laying there, so close to him, the fabric barrier between you and the night sky seemed suffocating.
It wasn’t the closest you’d ever been, of course. There had even been some nights where you found yourself asleep on his shoulder after a long day or he would doze off with his head in your lap. There was just something about this- something about the two of you enclosed together, alone- that felt different.
You laid completely still, screwing your eyes shut, but your mind refused to rest. The form beside you shifted back and forth, twisting and turning. Kili grunted in frustration and turned onto his back.
“Y/N?” He whispered. “Are you awake?”
“Unfortunately.”
He blew out a breath. “We should sleep. It’s going to be a long day tomorrow. We’ll have to find some food in case Fili gets holed up somewhere.”
You hummed and nodded.
Both of you stared up at the slanted ceiling of the tent, not moving and not speaking. The tension alone chilled you to the bone, making you shudder.
“Are you cold?” Kili asked.
“I’m fine.”
“Are you sure, because I have an extra fur-”
“Kili, go to sleep.” You huffed, shifting to your side away from him so he couldn’t see the painful want in your eyes.
Kili was more than just your best friend to you. He was your first love, the only person you’d ever loved, really. You’d had suitors in the past ask for your hand, but you declined them all. Your heart was no longer yours to give away. But you could never bring yourself to tell him. He was a prince, after all, and what were you? A nobody.
You blinked away tears and curled up as close to the tent’s wall as possible.
So close together and yet you couldn't feel more distant.
-
The next day yielded even less results. The further you got into the mountains, the less hope you had that you were going in the right direction. The Eastern Pass took you higher in elevation and further away from Fili with the supplies.
“Wait.” Kili stopped suddenly, putting a hand out in front of you. “Listen.”
You halted, the frostbitten ground shifting beneath your boots. At first, the slight breeze was all you could detect, but as the forest stilled, the subtle yet clear sound of hooves carried on the wind.
And they were getting closer.
“Get down.” You grabbed the collar of his coat and pulled. The two of you tumbled into a bush, losing your balance in your haste. Kili hit the ground. You fell onto his chest, knocking the breath out of both of you.
Kili grimaced.
“Sorry,” you whispered. Your faces turned a similar shade of pink, both trying to hide it from the other.
The familiar thudding against the forest floor increased in speed and volume. From your position, you could just see through the foliage that kept you hidden.  Kili craned his neck, blindly trying to get a glance.
“Can you see them?” He asked.
“Shh.”
You kept your head low as you stared out. Watching. Waiting. As the horses neared, you decided there couldn’t be more than three.
“We could take them,” you whispered, looking down. But the sight of Kili lying beneath you, hazel-brown eyes staring up into yours with his hair a mess below him was too much. It sent a burning, twisting feeling through your stomach. You looked back up at the road. “There aren’t many. We could fight and force them to tell us where they took my sisters.”
“Are you mad?” Kili hissed, shifting underneath you. His hips rocked up into yours by accident. He sucked in a breath. “It could be innocent travelers going through the mountains. Or worse, there could be a dozen fighters and we’d be dead in seconds.”
“Since when are you the cautious one?” You scoffed, ignoring his movements and prepping yourself to pounce.
Kili locked his arms around your middle and rolled. He had you on your back before you could stop him, pinning you to the forest floor with his hands on either side of your head.
“Since I’m trying to keep you from getting yourself killed,” he growled.
Relieved that your hips were no longer pressed against his, Kili had put himself in another predicament hovering over your body, his lips mere inches from yours.
It shamed him to think of how many times he’d imagined you like this.
He waited until the riders were past, counting three, just as you said, but they seemed only to be a father and his two children, both under the age of 16. Kili doubted that these were the raiders who had destroyed your home. One of them mentioned something about getting over the pass before the storm, which made him uneasy.
Despite the heat of your bodies, the air was indeed growing colder. Clouds were gathering and a crisp, cool scent hung in the air.
Kili stood and held out a hand to help you up.
You didn’t take it.
“We need to keep moving.”
He swallowed. “We should head back to lower grounds. If we get caught in the pass, who knows how we’ll get out.”
You didn’t look at him. Instead, you continued up the path. “I wasn’t asking.”
-
Kili walked behind you, neither saying a word. He saw the tension in your back shifting like you were already in battle. He only wished he could relieve at least some of the weight that bore down on your shoulders. Witnessing you in such pain hurt him more than he knew how to express. That, unfortunately, wasn’t the only thing he struggled to put into words.
It had taken Kili long enough to finally admit his feelings for you to himself, but it was taking even longer for him to admit them to you. Fear wasn’t something that usually stopped him- he’d faced trolls and orc packs a dozen times over- but the idea of jeopardizing his friendship with you frightened him to no end.
Still, lying there, pressed against you, had drummed all of those feelings up to the front of his mind. They distracted him from the real issue at hand and he tried to remind himself that you need him focused. You needed a warrior, not a love-sick errand boy.
“If we keep at this pace, we can make it through the pass by morning,” you said grimly.
Kili exhaled, his voice deep with concern. “Y/N, you need to rest.”
“I need to find my sisters.”
You kept walking.
Kili kept his arguments to himself. Starting a fight now would only make you angrier and he didn’t want to risk you going off alone.
He let out a low sigh. Being the responsible one was exhausting.
Kili watched the sun with a concerned eye and discomfort growing in his stomach. His breath appeared in a cloud from his lips. But worse, flecks of white sent panic up his spine. The snow speckled the branches of the pines around them and added to the already thick blanket of frost that coated the ground. The further up, the deeper the snow banks.
“These flurries won’t be flurries for long,” he warned.
“We’ll make it.”
You refused to turn back to look at him. If you did, you knew that one look at his face would make you forget your persistence. You would turn around and head back down the mountain and have to start all over again in the morning. So you kept your eyes ahead, despite the growing shiver down your spine.
Besides, it was only a little snow. You and the brothers had faced worse on numerous occasions.
Kili quickened his pace to take his place beside you again.
“This way,” he said. “I’ve heard a shortcut through this pass.”
You raised a brow. “You’ve heard of one?”
“We’re here based on a rumor, aren’t we?” He retorted.
You shrugged as if to say ‘fair enough.’
Kili took the lead as the air thickened with white flakes. The shortcut, while it existed as far as he knew, was not the true purpose of his change in direction. He’d read journals telling tales of adventures through these mountains and he remembered a checkpoint for many. A cave where they could take shelter from winter storms. He only hoped it was real.
You began to regret your stubbornness as the cold seeped through your coat, the snow falling thicker and thicker, decreasing your visibility until you could see but a mere few feet in front of you.
In a blink, the blizzard set in.
You trudged on. Eyes blinded by white, you walk straight into the mass in front of you. Your companion’s warmth drew you in and you couldn’t help but press yourself against his back. His arm wrapped around, searching for yours.
“Take my hand!” Kili called back to you.
You did so without hesitation, wincing at the chilled state of his skin.
“We’re nearly there!” He shouted over the wind.
“That’s impossible! We haven’t even made it through the pass!”
“You’ll see.”
Trust was the only thing you had left, your senses overtaken by the storm. And then suddenly, it stopped. Kili pulled you forward and the choking white curtained the opening of the cave behind you. Wind howled, but no longer deafened.
“You knew this was here?” You gasped through chattering teeth.
Kili gulped. “I hoped.”
“You hoped?”
“You kept going!” He held out his hands, fingers stretched and shaking with his words. “I didn’t know what else to do!”
“Nevermind. It doesn’t matter.” You ran a hand down your face, wincing at the freezing surface of your own skin, as well as the exhaustion overtaking your features. You paced back toward the blinding white outside. “We’ll stay here until the storm blows over and then we’ll keep going.”
Standing at the opening of the cave, the wind still chilled you to the bone. Still, you watched, as if your sisters would magically appear and welcome you into their warm arms.
As the image passed through your mind, you were gently pulled away from the wind by a hand as cold as yours, and yet it sparked the warmth that you needed. Kili placed a hand on your cheek, turning your face to his.
“You’re exhausted,” he said. “We cannot afford to be careless. Not out here. We’ll go out again in the morning. You need to rest.” Before you could argue, he added, “We both do.”
With the fog of determination outweighed by fatigue and frost, you sighed in defeat, hanging your head.
“Alright,” you conceded.
Kili put a finger under your chin and lifted your eyes. He gave you a small smile to which you couldn’t help but reciprocate.
“Come on. We should set up the tent. It might not be much, but it can’t hurt.”
Your chattering teeth gave no argument. There was no wood for a fire, the smoke would fill the small space anyway, so the thin cloth was your only added defense against the cold.
Once inside, you both felt the same pull towards each other, your bodies craving the heat of another. But you stayed on the far side, as far as you could get, mind clouded by icy, frozen fear. Kili didn’t say anything, trying to ignore the ache in his chest as he tried to sleep.
Your eyes couldn’t have been shut for more than a moment when you heard them.
“Y/N!”
“Y/N! Where are you?”
You blinked to clear the tiredness from your eyes and listened.
“It can’t be,” you whispered.
“Y/N! Y/N!”
Maryina and Baeriel.
You listened again.
“We’re here! Help us!”
Your sisters. They were out there. They were trapped in the storm. They needed you.
You sat up, tossing aside the coat you’d been using for a blanket and ignored the bitter air seeping through your tunic. You didn’t feel it. You didn’t see your companion sleeping across from you. You didn’t hear the wind as you stepped out of the tent. You only heard your sisters’ cries…
And stepped out into the blizzard.
-
Kili twisted and turned. As hard as he tried, sleep never stayed. He dozed off only to drift back, trying not to shiver.
“I can’t sleep again,” he sighed. Kili flipped onto his other side. Rubbing his tired eyes, he opened them. The bundle of furs beside him took an odd shape.
Empty.
“Y/N?”
He sat up and reached across the tent, feeling nothing but frigid air. Kili lifted his head, panic banishing any exhaustion left in his limbs.
The untied opening of the tent flapped in the wind.
“Y/N!” He called out.
The storm screamed in response.
He scrambled out of his bedroll and sprinted into the night. Fat, white flakes stuck to his face and eyelashes no matter how much he blinked them away.
“Y/N!” He shouted again.
Kili walked, trying to keep the cave in sight. The blizzard raged around him, concealing even the silhouette of the trees. He cried out your name again and again. With every passing second of silence, his chest grew tighter.
Why would you have gone off alone?
What if something had taken you?
There was no way for Fili to reach the cave until the storm settled, which meant he was completely and utterly alone.
“Y/N!”
It felt like hours before the wind let up and even then, snow continued to fall and the air turned even colder, creeping down Kili’s neck like a thousand icy-legged spiders.
There, in the distance, he could just make out a shape, wandering and covered in a thick, frozen blanket.
Kili ran as fast as his aching legs would allow, his boots sliding on the ice-coated ground. No matter how loud he shouted, it was as if you couldn’t hear him. You trudged on, the snow almost reaching your knees. You didn’t even have your coat. If he didn’t get you out of this cold, you would surely be lost to the white nothingness that surrounded you.
“Y/N, what are you-” Kili moved to grab your arm and found that your eyes were closed. Ice stuck to your face where tears had fallen and your blue lips muttered the same two things over and over again.
“Maryina…. Baeriel….”
Kili’s heart shattered like an icicle falling to the earth.
“Y/N, love, wake up,” he pleaded, gently taking hold of your shoulders. He had to stop himself from recoiling. Even through your tunic, you were like a statue, freezing to the touch. “We need to get back to the cave. I need to get you to a fire. I need to get you warm.”
Already, you looked like a walking corpse.
But your eyes were starting to open.
“K-Kili?” You muttered through chattering teeth. “What’s going on? I’m so…” You stepped forward, falling against him. “I’m so cold.”
Kili didn’t hesitate. He scooped you up into his arms, holding you tight against his chest. He followed his own footprints as they were slowly being covered again by the falling snow. By some miracle, he made it back to the cave. He hurried into the tent, wishing he had the material for a fire. For now, all he had was hope.
“I heard them,” you said, still dazed. “I heard their voices calling to me in the storm.”
“And you followed it?” He gasped, quickly undoing the fastens of his coat. “Are you mad? Even if they were out there, you’re no good to them frozen to death.”
Kili shrugged out of his coat and wrapped it around your shoulders.
“No, Kili.” You tried to push him away, but he was stronger, fueled by panic and determination. “Kili, you’ll freeze.”
“I’ll be fine,” he said harriedly. He tied the entrance of the tent to keep out the frigid wind and laid down, gently pulling you along with him. Kili rubbed his hands up and down your arms, careful to keep the heap of furs wrapped tightly around you. He held you against his chest, his tunic slightly undone so you could feel the heat of his skin against your cheek.
As his warmth broke through the icy surface that suffocated your entire body, your mind started to clear. It started to wake up.
And when it did all you could see was his wide, golden-brown eyes searching yours with a fire you’d seen a few times before. Once when you’d been separated from him and his brother for a week on a particularly stressful journey and the other when your village was attacked and your sisters were taken. Each time, he looked as though he was looking at the sun for the first time.
At the time, you didn’t understand, or perhaps you didn’t let yourself understand. You understood now what that fire meant.
He was, and would always be, your shelter.
Like magnets, you somehow were drawn together still, despite already being impossibly close. The air between you was hot with your breathing. Everything seemed to stand still, from the raging winds outside to the racing heart inside your chest.
Neither of you said a word, an entire conversation held simply in the lock of your gazes.
Kili’s hand cradled the back of your head, laying it against his chest. You felt the soft, sweet warmth of his lips on your forehead.
Despite the hauntings of your mind, your heart gave you leave to rest in the strength and comfort of Kili’s embrace, allowing both of you to slip back into the persistent reach of slumber.
-
The storm blocked the pass by morning and, without any equipment, there was no way to get over. It had all been for nothing.
Fili found you halfway back down the mountain, the pony’s back covered with more supplies.
“What happened to you two?” He asked.
“We couldn’t find them,” you snapped, hurrying ahead of both of them.
Fili turned to his brother.
Kili shook his head.
Your party of three traveled until you found the nearest tavern and the boys made you stop for the night, watching exhaustion seep into your every step.
Dinner was had in silence with an air hanging so thick that Fili felt he would choke on it. He could never imagine the two of you fighting- he knew that his brother would never forgive himself if he ever hurt you. But he also knew Kili’s true feelings towards his best friend and Fili couldn’t help but wonder if something had been revealed while he was gone.
“We’ll start up toward the northern villages in a few days,” Kili said. “It’ll give us some time to rest, regroup, and plan.”
You stared at your plate. “What’s the point?”
Both turned to you.
Kili’s eyes softened. “Y/N, you don’t mean that.”
“They’re gone, Kili.” You blinked back tears. “We could search until the end of time and we still wouldn’t find them.”
“Then to the end of time we will look because I am not giving up,” he insisted. His dark eyes took on that glimmer from last night, igniting something within you.
Your nightmare wasn’t the only thing that frightened you.
“I’m going to my room,” you said, pushing away from the table. Your form disappeared up the stairs with the gaze of both princes trailing after you.
Kili sighed, running his fingers through his long, dark hair.
“You just going to let her go?” Fili scoffed.
“What would you have me do?”
Fili shook his head and took a drink of his ale.
Kili narrowed his eyes. “What?”
His brother raised a brow. “Y/N is the most stubborn, persistent, devoted woman I’ve ever met. She isn’t giving up on looking for her sisters. She’s worried about continuing the search with us.”
“What?” Kili exclaimed. “What are you talking about?”
“Kili, brother,” Fili sighed. “I’m saying maybe my absence was exactly the two of you needed and you’re both still avoiding what I’ve seen for as long as we’ve known Y/N.” He finished off his ale and snatched Kili’s away before he could protest. “Now go talk to her.”
Kili swallowed, staring at the steps. It took one final shove from his brother to actually get him to stand up and move.
As he ascended the stairs, Kili thought about everything Fili had said. What did he mean, his absence was what you two needed? What did he know that Kili didn’t?
Of course, the younger prince knew exactly what his brother meant. He’d always known, even when he didn’t know how to admit it. But waking up in that tent, the panicked thoughts of you out in the storm, alone, the terror of losing you to the ice and snow, and holding you in his arms to keep you warm all revealed exactly what had been in his heart all these years.
He loved you.
Perhaps Fili was right.
Maybe it was time to finally tell you.
Kili found your room and stood before it for a good long while. He tried raising his hand to knock, but he was just… frozen in place.
What if this was a mistake?
What if decades of friendship fell apart in this moment?
What if-
The door opened and his heart stopped.
You startled back at the sight of his big brown eyes. The eyes you hadn’t been able to stop thinking about. The ones you wanted to get lost in and never be found. And he was there, waiting for you.
You both opened your mouths to speak and stopped, waiting for the other person, leaving you both in a tense silence. The same tension from the tent. The one that drew you together, closer and closer.
“Kili, I-”
His lips caught yours, silencing the words you still weren’t sure how to say. You let your hands tangle in his hair, pulling him closer, closer still if that was even possible. Every moment, every breath from the last few days had been leading to this. And all either of you could think was one word.
Finally.
And as Fili watched you pull Kili into your room, kicking the door closed behind him, he was thinking the same thing.
“Finally,” he muttered, shaking his head as he went to his room, glad to have it to himself for a change.
-
Kili’s lips brushed against your forehead, the rest of your body completely tangled with his. Your arms wrapped around his bare chest, your legs wound between his, and your head was tucked under his chin. Your naked skin burned against each other but you never wanted it to stop.
And between every sigh, every pleasured cry or whispered word came one phrase. I love you.
He said it again, now. “I love you.”
You turned to look up at him. Into those eyes. The gaze that captured you more and more every time.
“And I you,” you said, kissing his collarbone, then his jaw, then finally his lips. “I have loved you ever since you taught me to shoot an arrow through the apples on our tree.”
Kili grinned, deepening the kiss and moving so his face hovered over yours.
“I’m still not giving up, you know,” he whispered. “We will find your sisters. And we will do it together.”
You wrapped a brown curl around your finger and nodded.
“I know. Before, I was just… scared.” You turned your head away. “That storm took me to a place I don’t want to go again.”
Kili laid a hand on your cheek, bringing your eyes back to his. “I’ll keep you safe.” He kissed your forehead again. “I promise.”
After letting the seriousness of your words settle for a moment, you grinned mischievously and rolled so that you straddled him.
“We should have tried this sooner,” you smirked.
Kili laughed and rolled again, putting him back above you. “It’s certainly a good way to stay warm.”

Headcanon Series #15
Okay, I need some IceMav!daughter stuff or I'm gonna burst!
I imagine a one-night-stand accident or a deceased mother of the girl and Tom/Pete got custody. (sth like that, the point is they’re a single parent)
Now, when they move in together (after cutting the crap and finally hooking up, developing a relationship) the little girl grows up with at first one, then two fathers.
Mav is Pops and Ice is Papa. East-European Tom Kazansky absolutely gets the ‘Papa’ title.
She learns the cooking from Mav because he had to make his own food pretty early on in his life (rough childhood, you know the drill)
(based on a Bruce Wayne Headcanon I can’t find anymore) Ice can’t cook at all. He can set a kitchen on fire with only a wooden spoon and cold water. The only thing he actually can do is an excellent bbq, which he becomes famous for. Ice teaches his daughter all the tricks and when she gets older, and Ice is maybe too exhausted after a day of work or sth, she’ll fire up the grill and provide amazing food for everyone around.
Also, Ice spent his childhood baking with his mother and her mother whenever they met, so the kid learns baking from him.
Mav teaches her how to fix cars and motorcycles. His hyperfixation kinda catches her too and they spend many weekends in the garage.
I am utterly obsessed with with this fanfiction and needed to implement it into this - Ice reads really weird bedtime stories, but she loves every single one of them.
Of course she grows up with Bradley (they’re around the same age, idc who’s older) and the adults around them like to refer to them as the chaos cousins. When Mav and Ice take Bradley in after Carole dies, they become the chaos siblings.
Bradley loves his sister and is super protective of her when they are in their teens. When she got cruelly dumped by her boyfriend in her first year of high school, Bradley stormed into the guys’ classroom and broke his nose. The principal had to call his parents, so Tom interrupted an important meeting and showed up in uniform at school to get his kid. The principal was kinda intimidated because of course Tom put on his Iceman™ look and stared the guy down, so Bradley ended up being expelled for only the rest of the day. (I think I need to write something separate about this)
Let’s take a closer look at the whole custody situation: Mav made Ice his emergency Contact and vice versa. Obvious. In the eyes of the Navy they are ‘best friends’ and brothers in arms; it’s not an uncommon thing to do so. Concerning the kids; they’re always both listed as emergency contacts for the kids. In a scenario where Tom has a daughter, they always argue “we both have a kid, we’re basically brothers, the kids are grew up together; they’re like cousins - we’re a family in the Navy, we look out for each other.” In a scenario where Mav has a daughter, he answers to that question with “Ice is like a brother to me; we’re best friends. He knows the kid(s). I can’t always respond, so I need another person to watch over the kid(s). He was the first to agree to that.” (I don’t know if this makes sense)
Regarding Bradley being an overprotective sibling; that girl doesn’t actually need any protection - after all, both her fathers are Navy legends and well respected and feared men in the military. She can stand her ground pretty well.
The flyboys often joke around if she actually might be a genetic experiment where they took Pete’s and Ton’s DNA to create the ultimate soldier because she inherits significant parts of both their personalities. She gets Mav’s recklessness and Ice’s strategic thinking, so everything she does, however stupid it might look, she does on purpose. She also got both their stubbornness. They all agree; if she ever starts a career in the Navy, she’s gonna be a nightmare for her superiors.
She starts a career in the Navy. Of course she had the chance to do something else, but she grew up surrounded by people being very passionate about their jobs and they just kinda naturally dragged her into it. Her military education looks something like this, I found it and almost died of laughter because this is kinda exactly how I imagined it, this is a piece of art!
She’s just as protective of her brother as he is over her and that’s why she hates Jake in the beginning. Sure, they’re now adults, but Bradley has such an unhealthy relationship with that guy, on and off and back on; then they’re fucking in a closet, the next minute they shout at each other over training exercises - she doesn’t get why Bradley keeps crawling back to that guy. After the Uranium-Mission (Ice lives, Mav doesn’t have the fight with Bradley) she starts appreciating the guy a little more because for one, he saved her father and brother, second, now that both men are more mature than ever and develope an actual relationship, she can see parallels in them to her fathers and she gets why they can’t keep away from each other. (Also don’t know if this makes sense)
Both her fathers walk her down the aisle on her wedding day, she insists on that.
Please expand if you have additions! <3

Can I request Alastor x female reader who loves 70-90 year old jazz? Maybe she's Charlie's sister, and Alastor hears music coming from her hotel room. Probably something like Ruth Etting or Annette Henshaw.
Tumblr media
Jazz of the Heart
In the heart of Hell, within the walls of the Hazbin Hotel, chaos and mayhem reigned. Among the residents was Charlie, the determined princess of Hell, and her sister, (Y/N). (Y/N) was unlike her sister in many ways. While Charlie was passionate about redemption and salvation, (Y/N) had a deep love for the music of a bygone era.
Her heart belonged to the tunes of the 70s, 80s, and 90s, especially the enchanting jazz of Ruth Etting and Annette Henshaw. As she settled into her room at the hotel, the smooth melodies of these jazz legends echoed through the walls, serenading the restless souls of Hell.
Alastor, the charming Radio Demon, couldn't help but be drawn to the sultry, nostalgic sounds. He had heard countless songs from different eras, but there was something enchanting about the vintage jazz tunes that (Y/N) played.
One evening, as (Y/N) sat by the record player, carefully selecting the next vinyl to spin, Alastor decided to investigate the source of this delightful music. He followed the alluring melodies to (Y/N)'s room and knocked lightly on the door.
(Y/N) opened the door to find the grinning Radio Demon. "Alastor, isn't it? How can I help you?"
He tipped his hat with a charming flourish. "Why, (Y/N), I couldn't help but be drawn to this mesmerizing music of yours. Quite the aficionado of vintage jazz, aren't you?"
She smiled, appreciating his recognition. "Oh, indeed. There's nothing quite like the classics. They have a soul that modern music often lacks."
Alastor stepped inside, and as the melodies of "Button Up Your Overcoat" filled the room, he extended his hand. "Would you do me the honor of a dance, my dear?"
(Y/N) was taken aback for a moment but couldn't resist the charisma of the Radio Demon. She accepted his offer, and they began to waltz around the room. Their movements were as smooth and enchanting as the jazz itself.
As they danced, Alastor couldn't help but be captivated by (Y/N)'s grace and love for the music. He found himself falling deeper and deeper under her spell, and he knew he had to have her in his life.
The soft, velvety notes of the song enveloped them, creating an intimate atmosphere. As the music swirled around them, Alastor's scarlet eyes bore into (Y/N)'s, and he gently pulled her closer. Their bodies moved in perfect harmony, each step a declaration of their growing connection.
With every subtle touch and the close proximity of their bodies, an electric charge filled the room. The scent of old vinyl records mixed with the faint aroma of (Y/N)'s perfume, creating an intoxicating blend. As Alastor's hand rested at the small of her back, a shiver ran down (Y/N)'s spine.
The song reached its climax, and Alastor couldn't resist the magnetic pull drawing him to (Y/N). In a fluid motion, he dipped her low, their faces mere inches apart. The world around them seemed to blur as time slowed down. Their breaths became shallow, and they shared a charged silence.
As the final notes of the song lingered in the air, Alastor, his voice as smooth as honey, whispered, "My dear (Y/N), it seems the music has brought our hearts together."
With an irresistible charm, he closed the remaining distance between them. His lips brushed against hers, gentle and tentative, igniting a spark that neither of them could deny. The kiss deepened, a passionate fusion of two souls drawn together by the enchantment of jazz and the intoxicating allure of their shared attraction.
The world outside faded into insignificance as (Y/N) and Alastor surrendered to the magnetic pull they couldn't escape. His gloved hand cradled her cheek, and the kiss became an exquisite dance of longing and affection.
It was a kiss that transcended time and place, a kiss that marked the beginning of a love story that defied the boundaries of Hell. In that fleeting moment, (Y/N) and Alastor discovered that love, like jazz, was timeless, resonating in the deepest recesses of their hearts.
As they broke the kiss, (Y/N) was left breathless, her eyes filled with both surprise and a hint of desire. Alastor's grin was filled with satisfaction and a hint of mischief. He took her hand, and as the music continued to play, they swayed together, their hearts in sync with the rhythm of love.
In Hell, where chaos and darkness reigned, their love shone like a beacon of light and passion, and the jazz of their hearts would play on, a melody that would never fade away.

a history of the major deities of the world of spyre
reference the legend lore database for descriptions of each deity as they pertain to this description.
———————————
the beginning (trapping of the eidolons)
when the world of spyre was wrought from the fabric of the universe upon the material plane, many gods sought to shape the growing world and visit upon it their blessings.
but they could not easily influence the growth of this world, not without breaking through the barriers between planes.
to weave their works into the tapestry of fate, the gods accepted the aid of the eidolons, seven sister spirits of primordial concepts, of the elements that fabricate the universe:
chronoa, the endless passage of time terra, the giving and nurturing earth pyrria, the bright and destructive flame nera, the cleansing and ever-flowing waters zefira, the free and encompassing air anima, the beginning of all life talura, the ending of all things
the seven sisters shaped the world to the gods' will, bending the elements to new forms. for a time, the sisters served as the hands of the gods, instruments of divine will on the world of mortals.
after centuries of these workings, mortals began to realize the power of the eidolons, the primordial beings from the dawn of time. they united with them, sharing the desire for mortal will to influence the world. (note: this event led to the first genasi in the world of spyre)
when mortals had become too powerful by harnessing the power of the eidolons, certain infernal deities allied with the neutral deities to see the eidolons reduced in power, to take awat their ability to interfere with mortal affairs.
when it seemed that the eidolons were doomed to eternal suffering, the dwarven god logran soulforger, blacksmith of the universe, he who forms the stars that populate the skies, created a merciful prison for the seven sisters. a crucible; to choose a trapped life or disperse into infinity, losing a finite will and joining the fabric of the cosmos.
in return, logran took on the duties of forming the cosmos into his own hands, where it might remain safe and whole, even as his clerics languished in his absence.
the sisters were trapped in these enchanted mirrors, and given the choice. all, save talura, the ending of all things, chose infinite escape from the mirrors.
———————————
the union of the pantheon (marriage of ankarna and cassandra)
at a time when the world and its peoples were young, two goddesses fell in love. ankarna, of the dawn, of fairness, justice, and conviction, and cassandra, of the night, of magic, mystery, and doubt. these goddesses, of different peoples but shared in love of the world and each other.
the goddesses came to wed in fallinel, attended by their respective sisters, ruvina and galicaea. the marriage ceremony was performed by sol, the brother of galicaea and cassandra, who sought to join the deities of sylvaire and the mountains of chaos, to bring a united pantheon to the peoples of spyre, from the elves, to the humans, to the sylvan tribes, to the giantkin.
for centuries after, the many peoples of spyre lived in harmony, witness to this blessed union of night and day.
———————————
the war of shattered stone (fall of ankarna)
a millennium before the present day, clerics of sol journeyed to meet with warriors of the house of sunstone, to share in divine thought, that the house of sunstone might be best served by shifting the domain of the goddess ankarna.
this resulted in the reconstitution of ankarna as an infernal deity rather than a celestial--a consequence of this shift in domain was the separation of ankarna from cassandra. she left behind the dawn and justice for the inciting power of rage and conquest that her people, the royal house of sunstone, might use in their imperial pursuits. his change was opposed by clerics of other deities, but most notably by the clerics of ruvina from the house of frostblade.
as the war drew to its climax, the followers of ankarna expressed dissatisfaction with her lack of animosity towards her wife, cassandra and her sister, ruvina.
the war concluded with the sundering of the cliffs of colcath, as the house of sunstone fled from the mountains of chaos, chased by agents of the frostblade and the many subjugated tribes of giantkin.
belief in ankarna finally perished with the death of her last believer in the red waste.
———————————
the sylvarian heresy and first rise of kalvaxus (fall of cassandra and rise of the nightmare king)
over a century after the war of shattered stone, war came again to spyre during the last great sylvan war. the tribes of sylvaire, the centaurs, treants, sprites, and wood elves, came into conflict over the correct means of worship for the goddess of mystery.
high elven clerics of galicaea approached the leaders of the tribes in the midst of the conflict and brought a prospective solution: the destruction of the name of the goddess of mystery, for was it not a heresy to know the name of that which is unknown.
to protect herself before this ritual came to pass, the goddess performed multiple great trans-substantiations on her symbols of power:
her spellbook, the cursed coin that carried her influence to the minds of the dreaming her familiar, the plague of the shadow cat, who lived among the illusions and sought the return of her deity her cottage, a curse to abjure the celestial from the forest of sylvaire, that the gods would not be able to seize her power again her broomstick, the tree at the center of the forest, that twisted the fears of those intruding upon her holy forest her name, the crown which symbolized her presence on the material plane and anchored her as a deific being
as her followers destroyed her name, the goddess performed her final trans-substantiation and became the nightmare king, the king of the dark dreaming, who was fae to the undead and undead to the fae, who fought for the abyssal in the blood war, who mastered the illusory arts and lived in the shadows of the world of spyre.
the nightmare king served as a lieutenant to kalvaxus in his imperial rise, solving arcane conundrums and capturing hapless civilians in dreams. as a gift, the nightmare king bestowed the trans-substantiated coin upon kalvaxus' hoard, that it might share in the collective curse of dragon madness and find the furthest reaches of the world.
some brave souls managed to get the crown and dispel the magic on it, without ending the curse on sylvaire. thus, a group of infernal warlocks created a boundary around the forest of the nightmare king to attempt to stop the spread of the curse, keeping anything from entering or leaving the forest without the permission of a high-ranking devil.
after the fall of kalvaxus, the nightmare king shifted back into the shadows, living as a source of fear for the world of spyre, while the crown was kept in the office of arthur aguefort.
———————————
the second rise of kalvaxus (fall of sol and creation of yes!)
around five centuries after the council of chosen first defeated kalvaxus, the stirrings of a plan for his second rise came to fruition. the elven oracle eleminthindriel had prophesied thus:
when kalvaxus once again beholds his glittering treasure and seven maidens are once more chained at the mouth of his lair when war befalls the realm and a king and queen are crowned anew in solace then will the emperor of the red waste be released from bondage his destruction will know no bound the sun shall fall from the heavens and the world as we know it shall perish forever.
while agents of kalvaxus worked to fulfill the prophecy, the fall of the sun originated from the first death of the blessed saint kristen applebees, and the subsequent sacrifice of arthur aguefort.
aguefort borrowed kristen’s status as the chosen of helio to arrive in the plane of elysium by subterfuge. after kristen returned to the prime material, aguefort remained in heaven and struck sol down from his heavenly office. he continued to run the daily goings-on of sol’s domain for the better part of a year, before returning to the prime material.
on the night of the “prompocalypse” kalvaxus completed the terms of the prophecy with the aid of his allies and was faced by the adventuring party known as the bad kids; when all but one of the party had gone unconscious, kristen applebees was summoned to the heavens in a moment of divine intervention. she discovered aguefort’s subterfuge in sol’s office.
the saint herself entered the void of astral space and formed a new deity, of enthusiastic affirmation in the face of an uncaring world. this deity was borne into existence as sol fell from the heavens in the wake of arthur aguefort’s return to the material plane, but died soon after, as kristen’s worship was remanded to that of the helioic faith, in the guise of yes!/yes?

the return of the nightmare king (reconstitution of cassandra)
on the night of the “prompocalypse”, agents of the nightmare king stole the crown of the nightmare king from arthur aguefort’s office, thereby removing the abjurative protections that had prevented attempts at summoning the nightmare king back to the prime material.
in the midst of war between solace and fallinel, agents of the nightmare further spread the curses that constituted the great trans-substantiations, causing widespread possessions and growth of the threat of the nightmare king’s return.
the adventuring party known as the bad kids traced these threats to the source: the shadow cat kalina, and her allies, the abernant family. these adventurers followed the summoners of the nightmare king into sylvaire, where they dispelled each of the great curses in turn and attempted to halt the summoning of the nightmare king.
the blessed saint kristen applebees, upon entering the forest of the nightmare king, communed with the lingering spirit of the unnamed goddess. due to this, she faced death at the hands of the great unicorn. she conversed with galicaea and sol in elysium before rejecting their worship and resurrecting herself from pure spirit to flesh and blood.
after the party struck down the nightmare king’s allies, the blessed saint proved the connection between the nightmare king and the unnamed goddess and opened herself up to worship of the unnamed goddess. she communed with the goddex, naming them cassandra and reconstituting them in the prime material as a deity rather than a deific being.

summoning of kahaerin (destruction of leviathan)
the storm king kahaerin, known for his wrath, sought the return of his beloved daughter, who succumbed to the depths of the dark sea centuries ago as a marble relief, a statue reaching for the sky, for the embrace of her father; legends tell of her turn to stone as she ran across the waves, sinking down beneath the ocean.
any who brought the statue above the briny depths of umberlee would see divine storms, of power and anger never seen before.
followers of the storm king, led by the archdruid alamaria, sought to reunite the storm king with his daughter through a divine ritual; a storm summoned to manifest the storm king over the celestine sea. this group cooperated with a group of merchants that sought to sink leviathan--the sacrifice of lives in the city's fall would aid the infernal ritual, that fed upon the souls of captured tieflings.
residents of the shipwreck city took offense to the destruction of their home and beat back those who sought to sink it by interrupting the ritual and returning the souls of the captured tieflings; the last of the daughter of storms was seen in umberlee's maw, in unknown depths of the celestine sea.

release of talura (infinite expanse of the eidolons)
the prophecy of the second rise of kalvaxus detailed the capture of seven maidens pure at the mouth of his lair. these maidens, as they broke from their chains, witnessed the release of talura as she mourned the loss of her dear sisters.
for many months did talura lie in wait, forming unnatural abominations of creatures in the mountains of chaos. as she searched for remnants of her sisters in finite form, she happened upon one of those very maidens, and gave to her a promise that they might be able to stay together as sisters, in exchange for a quest that might alter the fabric of reality.
in her fury at her sister's absence, talura took the power of her new pact and unleashed death upon the world of spyre, consolidating power in the necronomikron and drawing her sisters to her.
the party of seven maidens faced the trials of the necronomikron, enduring talura's manipulations of her sisters each in turn through both their own skill and timely divine intervention. talura was struck down by the maidens working in concert with her sister, and was guided to the infinite by her own warlock, sam nightingale.

communion of logran soulforger (rise of the prophet ostentatia)
in the mythos of logran soulforger, he was an absent deity, too busy with the construction of creation to give words to his followers. clerics of the god of the forge contented themselves with prayer and the fulfillment of his eternal philosophy:
many miracles were granted to the world, and to mortal beings did [He] grant the greatest miracle of all: that the world might be reshaped through love and work.
a young cleric by the name of ostentatia wallace sought out former clerics of logran soulforger, including the three pilgrims of the temple of the earth defiant: asha hammerheart, kora ironbrow, and yvonna of the sundering hills. through their counsel, ostentatia was able to commune with logran in his divine workshop, the first cleric to do so in millennia.
upon meeting logran, ostentatia chose to aid in the creation of the works of the universe, not making demands nor shirking the work of her position. she thereby transcended her status as a cleric to become a prophet of the forge and share in the work of creation.

attempted apotheosis (restoration of ankarna)
descendants of the royal house of sunstone survived to become the clan of cliffbreaker, memorializing their defeat at the sundering of the cliffs of colcath. one member of the family, who went by the name porter cliffbreaker, sought to restore the legacy of the clan by resurrecting ankarna in her warped form and striking her down to take his place as a new deity of war. he fashioned himself a champion of ankarna, that he might make her body anew from the earth and draw her from the astral plane to the material.
the ritual involved nine distinct elements to bring ankarna forth from her dead form in the astral sea:
the goddess awakes where a god was borne her divine weaponry shaped for war with angry followers seeking her rise and physical domain brought to the skies a song to bring forth bountiful rage her spouse enshrouding in nurturing cage the word of her name-blessing champion the vessel's form altered for ascension and her name divine from ages of old in storm and fire must be told
porter and his allies, who had undergone a ritual to incite them to rage and grant them deific power, attempted to invoke the name of ankarna. they were initially stymied by the trickery of ankarna's true champion, figueroth faeth, the archdevil of rebellion, who granted them the false name bacarath in order to protect her deity.
the archdevil arrived with her party (the bad kids) in time to strike down porter's allies and commune with the goddess herself; she was aided by the blessed saint kristen applebees, who communed with cassandra, the spouse of ankarna, and beseeched her aid in casting doubt upon porter.
this communion successfully brought ankarna to the material plane in her original aspect, as a deity of dawn and justice. ankarna struck the usurper from existence and took form alongside her beloved to found a new pantheon, of dawn and twilight, doubt and conviction.
