Legacy of the Hive: A Beekeeper's Journey in Rural India #Beekeeping
The sun rises over the sprawling fields, bathing the earth in a golden hue, the kind that makes you squint and feel the warmth on your skin. The hives are humming, a low, persistent drone that’s both soothing and unnerving, like the heartbeat of the world. Ramesh stands there, feeling the weight of generations on his shoulders, his father’s voice echoing in his head, reminding him of the delicate…

Any story where Cass learns to be more like Shiva and less like David Cain is a good one to me. Cain took Shivas abilities and bastardised them, twisted a child into a murderer which left her feeling guilty for the blood on her hands and her gift for violence for years. And the batfam helped Cass realise that she wasn't doomed to be evil just because she enjoyed violence, that in the right context she can do good, can BE good.
But it's always limited. Always as gentle as possible (Cass, not Bruce). Always restrained and controlled and with the executioners axe hanging over her head, waiting for the second she goes too far. She can imitiate them, do good work the way they do, but in her eyes she will never truly be fully like them.
Enter Shiva. Who understands Cass in a way no one else can. Cass's ability to read body language, her talent with martial arts. David Cain pushed them to extremes but the gifts originated with Shiva. Cass will never share her birth mother's comfort with death or her detachment from the world around her but she can reach her in other ways. Connect with her, talk to her as an equal and peer the way no one else is for them. And she can learn from Shiva too, not just skills but philosophy. How to live with all the different contradictions that make up your personality. How to reconcile your love of violence with your desire to help people. How to be unafraid of what you are capable of, to let go and enjoy it because it is not evil, it is simply you.
Shiva will never be a mother or a mentor or even a trustworthy ally. She doesn't want to be and she doesn't need to be. Cass has all of those things already. Her connection with Shiva is based off something different, and it works for them even if no one else understands it.
#dc#cassandra cain#dc rambles#Lady Shiva#I can't explain it properly it buzzes around my head but it's too complex for me to get the words out right#But Cass and Shiva and understanding her heritage#Understanding that David cain may have taken and used her but the core he stole from is not evil or good it simply IS#It's her culture it's her legacy it's her birthright. Not David's not Bruce's not whatever white boy of the month dc throws at Shiva#This language that only they speak is the closest Cass will ever come to having roots beyond David cain#And it's so important to me

"Svolte di Popolazio," 1956
In 1956, an extraordinary event took place in Venice, Italy, when the famous canals of the city were drained and cleaned for the first time in centuries. This remarkable undertaking was known as the "Svolte di Popolazio," or the People's Revolution, and it was a massive civic project aimed at improving the sanitation and infrastructure of Venice's historic waterways.
Over the centuries, the canals of Venice had accumulated layers of silt, debris, and waste, leading to unsanitary conditions and posing a threat to the city's architectural heritage. The decision to drain and clean the canals was made in an effort to address these issues, restore the waterways to their former glory, and preserve Venice's unique cultural and historical identity.
The draining and cleaning of the canals required meticulous planning, coordination, and labor-intensive work by a team of engineers, workers, and volunteers. Water was pumped out of the canals, revealing the muddy bottom and hidden treasures beneath the surface, such as lost artifacts, sunken boats, and centuries-old structures.
As the canals were emptied, the cleanup crews set to work removing tons of sediment, debris, and rubbish that had accumulated over the years. The process involved dredging, scrubbing, and excavating the canals to remove the layers of detritus and restore the waterways to their original depth and clarity.
The draining and cleaning of the canals was a monumental effort that captured the attention and admiration of Venetians and visitors alike. The project not only improved the sanitation and aesthetic appeal of the canals but also highlighted the importance of preserving Venice's unique heritage and architectural marvels for future generations to enjoy.
The event symbolized a sense of civic pride, community effort, and commitment to the preservation of Venice's cultural legacy. The draining and cleaning of the canals in 1956 remain a historic moment in the city's history, showcasing the resilience, ingenuity, and enduring beauty of Venice's iconic waterways.

So a thing about Kyle Rayner is that he gets compared to Peter Parker a lot. Which is y'know not invalid, insofar as that they're both everyman characters who got great power by accidentally being in the right place at the right time, and had to learn great responsibility as a result of the guilt of losing a loved one.
Thing is, while all that is true, I'm a firm believer that if Emerald Twilight was written today, Kyle would be compared more with the other Spider-Man. Because while he has a similar origin to Peter, our boy Kyle is a legacy hero like Miles. Both of them had to struggle to figure out what it meant to be a hero with no help from their predecessors, ultimately taking the name and making it their own
Hell, in the Spider-Verse movies, Miles is an artist!
#as a green lantern fan people who bitch about there being multiple spider-men and legacy heroes in general are so pathetic I have to laugh#yeah yeah Green Lantern is a title but we still accept the old WW2 veteran claiming the name despite not being part of the Corps#what was it that stan lee said that anyone can wear the mask?#kyle rayner#miles morales#green lantern#spiderman#dc#dc comics#marvel#marvel comics#green lantern corps#into the spider verse#across the spiderverse#also they're both half latino but dc only seems to remember that when tom taylor is writing or when its hispanic heritage month lmao#to quote a buddy on discord#im GL he's GL she's GL one time I borrowed Kid Flash and made him GL and if you don't shut up I'll do it to you too

damn it. now i need to design a Rook so i can actually do something with this mental image of the collective look on Rook and Solas's face when Nessie refers to Solas as "that old fart"
#nessiava tillahnen#dragon age#datv#solas#nessie: DAD im old enough and I want you to carve my vallaslin. please#revallen: i- are you sure? i've told you it's going to be dangerous#nessie: I KNOW but i REFUSE to be the generation where great grandpa's legacy dies#revallen: and i will not keep your heritage from you. you're every inch a Keeper’s daughter and I couldn't be prouder.#revallen: would that our lives could continue peaceably there would be no hesitation from me but our world is drastically different now#nessie: because of that old fart Hahren Solas. I know. but it's still my right!#[Rook losing it; Solas' eye twitching]#revallen: it is. but if what he said is true and the Creators - the Evanuris - will be freed#nessie: Dirthamen's never been violent though has he?#revallen: we cannot know. but if the evanuris are freed then we must assume that the forgotten ones will be as well. yes?#nessie: i mean... yes... but what does that have to do with dirthamen?#revallen: little. except that the forgotten ones were the enemies of the evanuris. any that bear their marks may be in danger.#[solas trying very very very very very hard to keep his composure]

Duty Without Hesitation
“A leader stands alone, bound by duty, not by the desires of others. There is no hesitation, no wavering in the face of decisions that shape the future of those who follow.
Duty isn’t simply a responsibility—it’s a force that carves itself into every moment, every choice. It commands presence, discipline, and an unwavering resolve. Those who hesitate will never understand the weight of this authority.
In the quiet of an old British officer’s study, where the walls carry the echoes of tradition, one figure stands firm. His hands rest on the desk, steady and certain, in a room filled with symbols of a legacy born from iron will. The light through the window casts long shadows, not of doubt, but of conviction.
To lead without hesitation is the only path. To hesitate is to fail.”

ok so. Beverly toegold the fourth is most likely the one who sealed ultrus in the helm the first time around. and ultrus is now sealed inside hardwon’s hammer. and Bev doesn’t feel the effects of old age, and as such likely looks to be about the same age as his dad was during the giant wars. all I can think of is hardwon returning to the astral plane, and meeting back up with the boobs, and ultrus from within the hammer seeing Bev and having a moment of intense deja vu as he sees the face of the same man who defeated him the first time around. and the rage and despair of knowing this is a destiny he will never be able to fully escape
#naddpod#ba2mia#just like. the idea of the legacy Bev has now grown into#esp. since so much of his heritage is just. gone.

We could have learned more about Vol'jin in the heritage questline. Like the entire part about the rush'kah mask.
You know, like one Vol'jin wears thats on the banner and tabard to represent the Darkspear. Maybe Rokhan reminiscing when Vol'jin made his own to emphasize the meaning behind them.
#Instead we got Rokhan acting like nothing pre BFA happened#Vol'jin getting more of a spotlight through the expansions is an In The Writing Room problem not a canon issue if it even IS an issue at al#He was front and center because he was all his tribe had in terms of someone to turn to#He refused help because everyone said this was HIS duty.#Rokhan is well aware of the situation Vol'jin was put into and doesnt envy it to any degree#you can easily flesh out the Darkspear as a tribe without resorting to some meta “hey we shouldve given Rokhan more attention huh huh hahah#I think people may have forgotten Rokhan was already a veteran by WC3#I can not imagine in any context Old Vet Rokhan saying HE was hard done by when Vol'jin lost himself in his own duty and purpose#he is not Zalazane 2.0 I assure you.#It would be much more IC for Rokhan to mention Vol'jin being defined by his legacy/took all of his tribes burdens for himself like SOTH sai#and how asking for help is always a better option#Yknow like the entire moral of the heritage questline?#If you just want more Rokhan say it instead of copy pasting it into his dialogue and -#Making him sound like the kid who wasn't the favourite#Basically the less inserting the opinions that the fanbase has on the story into the dialogue itself the better lmao#Im looking at you voiceline about Voljin spending such a short time as warchief

February 6 - Part 2
Lurch had left. He told Annalise he needed a few days to think. She thought he may go stay with Jackson and Lilith but she was wrong. He said he was going to go rent himself a hotel room in another town. Annalise wanted to beg him not to go but she held herself back. He needs this time and she's going to give it to him, even if it breaks her heart to do it.
Her doorbell rings.
She stops in her tracks when she sees the spattering of blood coming from Asa's nose. She pulls him inside and cleans him up before giving him a bag of blood she keeps in the house in case of emergencies. A nose bleed. Something so very human and yet Asa is still a vampire. He has no pulse. His heart does not beat. What does this mean?
Asa starts feeling a bit more normal after consuming the blood bag and he sits down by his ex-wife, seeing the concern on her face. "I'm fine."
Annalise scoffs at that but she still seems troubled.
"Where's Lurch?" Asa asks, surprised the looming butler didn't answer the door. He notices Annalise's expression change even more and draws some conclusions. "Trouble in paradise?"
"Frances wants me to turn him." Annalise admits. Asa blinks at her admission and lets out a low whistle.
"That's heavy." He comments, looking at his ex-wife and thinking back to when she asked him to change her into a vampire so they could be together forever. Then Asa ruined things between them. "You did the right thing, you know...I should have told you no but I was selfish. I wanted to keep you forever and I still lost you."
Annalise stares at him, the regret is rolling off him in waves. She swallows feeling a twinge of sadness for him. "I was pretty adamant about my choice."
Asa shakes his head slightly "Yeah but you didn't force me into it. I did it all on my own."
Things grow quiet for a bit and the silence stretches. The only sounds heard in the house is the crackling of the fireplaces and the ticking of the grandfather clock in the foyer.
"Why does doing the right thing have to be so hard sometimes?" Annalise asks, not really asking Asa but herself.
"My Edda always told me that you're never wrong for doing the right thing. I didn't really get it when I was young...but I think it kind of means that things will work out in the end because you did what was right." Asa says, thinking briefly of the Grandmother who raised him. "Lurch will come around. He loves you."
Annalise nods briefly with a sad smile. She could finally feel the tears starting to prick at her eyes that had wanted to come out earlier but she had held them in to try to be strong for her suitor. She watches Asa rise slowly from the couch and offer her his hand.
To both their surprises, she actually lets him comfort her. "It'll work out." Asa whispers. He knows this is probably the only time he will ever hold Annalise again and while a small part of him enjoys it - he can't fully while she's upset. Maybe if James actually gets somewhere with the cure, he can help not only himself but Annalise as well.
