What Is Lean PCOS? Know Its Symptoms, Causes And Treatment!
Lean PCOS, or thin PCOS, is a subtype of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) affecting women who have a normal body mass index (BMI) but still experience typical PCOS symptoms. These can include irregular menstrual cycles, hormonal imbalances, and fertility issues, despite not being overweight. Causes of lean PCOS may involve genetic factors, insulin resistance, and hormonal disruptions. Treatment often includes lifestyle changes, medications, and nutritional supplements to manage symptoms and improve overall health.

Lean PCOS versus PCOS: What's the Distinction?
Tumblr media
LeanPCOS
Offer: In this way, I am a woman with 'lean PCOS' (Polycystic Ovarian Disorder). What this implies, in fact, is that I fall into the 1 out of 3 ladies who have PCOS who are not overweight or large. For this, I'm both glad and fortunate. Pleased in light of the fact that I am ready to deal with a solid way of life with this condition. Fortunate in light of the fact that I've had some hereditary 'help' doing this. The explanations behind having overabundance weight with PCOS are profound established, complex, and multifactorial, with a solid hereditary segment.
Lean PCOS versus PCOS: What's the Distinction?
Not every person fits the cliché picture of a lady with PCOS: being overweight or large, having skin break out and beard growth. A few ladies have not many outward signs yet inside, insulin actually unleashes ruin on a few of our real frameworks. It assists with attempting and accomplish your own sound BMI as weight has a 'portion subordinate' relationship with metabolic changes, which means the more weight you acquire, the more noteworthy the possibility of metabolic unsettling influences.
Why is Weight The executives With PCOS So Troublesome?
One critical test with PCOS is that, for the majority of us, our body is impervious to insulin. This implies that your cells aren't receptive to the degree of insulin being created, so the pancreas delivers increasingly more insulin to accomplish the ideal impact.
Insulin is a chemical whose work is to store fat, a transformative variation that was useful for ladies in ancient occasions when food was scant. In our current 'obesogenic' climate, where food is copious and handled, this variation is a drag in light of the fact that our body endeavors to store fat, especially in the mid-region.
Stomach fat adds to insulin opposition by creating substances that decline your body's affectability to insulin, one of the horrible patterns of PCOS. It resembles insulin opposition and stomach fat are consistently on a vehicle ride together, one may be the driver, however the other is consistently curious to see what happens. On the off chance that that isn't sufficiently terrible, insulin obstruction contorts your satiety and appetite chemicals causing inconsistent messages so you feel that you can't eat naturally on the grounds that you are consistently ravenous. In this manner, the key to overseeing PCOS is to make the body touchy to insulin. Appears to be basic, correct?
PCOS and Insulin Obstruction
The way, however, to discovering the best approach to make your body touchy to insulin is definitely not basic. It's diligent effort and a great deal of experimentation. The vast majority have a second that fills in as a reminder for them. Mine was in school. In secondary school, I took the anti-conception medication pill and played group activities each season which assisted me with keeping up weight and diminished the side effects of PCOS. When I got to school, I couldn't take part in sports because of my low maintenance work. That, and the expansion of the carb-laden college food, made me be overweight without precedent for my life.
Here is the part where I'm fortunate:
Hereditary qualities assumes a tremendous part in your weight set point. My whole family is lean, so I have hereditary qualities in support of myself, and for that I am interminably thankful as numerous ladies with PCOS who are overweight or have heftiness are hereditarily disposed to have a higher set point/BMI. Here is the place where the 'glad' part comes in.
I figured out how to control the stuff that I can handle: what I eat, the amount I move, and how I deal with calm pressure. Ongoing pressure builds aggravation in the body as well as adds to a considerable lot of the sicknesses that I'm attempting to forestall: diabetes, elevated cholesterol, and others.

PCOS FACTS 16: ATHLETES WITH PCOS My last #pcosfact ends off w/ me briefly discussing #MagnusHagmar's theory about "elite atheletes" and #PCOS. He believes that the the slight increase in production of the #malesexhormone #testosterone which accompanies #polycysticovaries is offering a competitive advantage for these women, which makes it easier for them to build #musclemass and absorb #oxygen. [meaning] "they might have got quicker results from their training and therefore been encouraged to train harder and more often." Hagmar said his finding could overturn old notions that strenuous physical activity such as in elite sports can damage #womenshealth. Well today I wanted to delve in deeper in to this topic being that I am what you call a person with #leanpcos and that although I'm not always very active, my body has been very #muscular since I was about 11 *around first #menstruation when PCOS symptoms begin for young girls* One symptom of PCOS is having no periods (which happens to me sometimes when I throw myself back in to strenuous or consistent exercise). Well, according to STACK.COM, a recent study showed PCOS may be more common among #athletes & could explain why more female athletes than women in the general population don't menstruate. VERY WELL.COM further states that "a study published in Fertility and Sterility showed a higher number of cases of #hyperandrogenism (high testosterone levels) in adolescent swimmers compared with non-swimmers. #Amenorrhea (lack of 3 consecutive menstrual cycles/more) #andoligomenorrhea (irregular periods at intervals of more than 6 weeks) has been found to be more prevalent among athletes than in the general population and is primarily due to #hypothalamicamenorrhea [;] 1/6th of Iranian female athletes w/ amenorrhea/oligomenorrhea were diagnosed as having PCOS according to findings published in Medicine and Science in Sports and Exercise. The site also explains that, because of their unique nutritional needs, each athlete w/ PCOS should meet with a registered #dietitiannutritionist w/ experience in sports nutrition and PCOS to develop an individualized meal plan to optimize performance while managing #health.

No, No, NO! High AMH is definitely NOT diagnostic for PCOS. This is a classic case of correlation... AMH IS often high in PCOS, but that does not mean PCOS is the only reason for high AMH. In fact similar to how women with hypothalamic amenorrhea (HA) can often have a large number of antral (resting) follicles, high AMH can also be associated with HA. I discussed some recent research on this topic in a blog post not too long ago - http://noperiod.info/HAvsPCOS2. ⚕️It is *really* important that you look at the whole picture when making the determination between HA and PCOS. This means looking at: 👉FSH 👉LH 👉Sex hormone binding globulin (SHBG) 👉AMH 👉free Testosterone 👉Androstenedione 👉DHEAS 👉17-OH-progesterone 👉prolactin 👩‍🎓Those hormones will cover the four main conditions that cause secondary amenorrhea (meaning you had your period at one time but do not any more). ⛔With HA, FSH may be low (<=7), LH may be low (often <=3, sometimes <=7), SHBG is often high, AMH is often high, all others will be low to normal. ⛔With PCOS, FSH will be normal (around 7), LH will be normal to high (often 2-3xFSH), SHBG is low, AMH is high, androgens will likely be high, 17-OH-progesterone and prolactin will be normal. ⛔With congenital adrenal hyperplasia, 17-OH-progesterone will be high, androgens will also be high. ⛔With a pituitary microadenoma, prolactin will probably be high, FSH and LH will be low. 📖For more info, you can download the HA vs PCOS chapter of my book for free at http://noperiod.info/HAvsPCOS. ❓Let me know if you have any questions!!
