Some art of my adopt Aspen from @abby-wolf! Backstory under cut

Aspen was originally born in the poisonwing with very pale green scales that grew more grey as they grew older. When eyes started replacing their normal scales the poisonwing village thought of them as a bad omen and exiled them to live on their own. Luckily their grandfather visited them enough to get a basic understanding of survival but due to their years of solitude they grew to be selectively mute. After Queen Wasps reign they came out of hiding and became a arborist due to their years of experience with trees. They are currently working to help replant the continent of trees Wasp cut down.

I like to imagine that their wing colors change along with the seasons, so the top reference sheet I made would probably be more of their spring/summer look whilst the bottom would be more of the fall/winter look, even tho technically pantala has a wet/dry season instead of the traditional four seasons… but whatever.

I based the tree they’re in off of the camper down elm since they’re a really pretty species. Too bad the one I drew was dead, i head cannon that Wasp didn’t cut down all the trees but instead released a blight of some sort that helped eliminate a lot of them. I didn’t really make the tree very accurate to the camper down elm since first of all: they’re winding as fuck and second of all: I like to imagine that they have some variation in trees in comparison to real life.

New updated reference for Fen!! I’m much happier with these colours and patterns. He’s part silkwing, but he’s much like Sunny in that he has very little silkwing traits. He has some iridescent scales and that’s pretty much it :D

First of all, I love all of these designs so much I love their colors as well AHAAHIDIMDID very awesome. I think I like Spruces design the most I mean like who is this diva. I love his colors and also the fact that you gave him a little facial hair I love giving dragons facial hair. I also wanted to draw Liana and her prosthetic leg because I love drawing prosthetics. Tbh I don’t draw LeafWings a whole lot and I don’t have that many head canons for their design, but I still enjoyed drawing them! I love that you gave them little leaves under their eyes so I added that to the drawing. Also for Spruces sail I wanted to base it off of the pines of a spruce tree. Over all loved drawing these guys and I need to draw LeafWings more!

Oh what's this a line of Pyrrihan dragons? Wow aren't they pretty?

Surprise! It's actually the Pantalan crew members!

I really wanted to draw them both as how they appear to dragons outside of the crew and how they actually are.

Also works as an excuse to talk about how the earrings enchantment works.

The spell doesn't physically change them, it only alters how others perceives them, the enchantment does not work on the crew.

They only knew what tribe they looked like due to dragons outside of the crew.

Dragons know there's something not quite right with them, Birdwing never changes colour, Silvers scales don't give off a cold, Deathwatch Buzz's when he flies and Jewel never drops any feathers.

I love them so much I love this I'm so proud of it, and I will say looking at their Pyrrihan forms feels wrong.

More Tribe Studies

Here is the first time I'm showing my full-body headcanon LeafWing design. I remember being disappointed that they didn't have four wings, and when I learned that technically the SilkWings/BeetleWings were the only tribe with four wings?? (The HiveWings got them only for being an offshoot of the BeetleWing tribe, but I still couldn't cope, lol).

I am not up to date on WOF lore so while you can correct me, please keep that in mind XD

I simply had fun designing them after lead-mimicking insects and geckos. I wanted to keep as much of the original design as possible while serving more of a leaf mimicry design. So the four wings work in tandem with the enlarged tail sail to make the whole dragon look like the end of a branch. They would do this formation on specific trees, otherwise they keep all 4 flat along their tail to look like one leaf. They have the extra frills on their legs so they can do a standing version of this if they're caught off-guard.

All of this would serve the purpose of visual camouflage. I read on the wiki that the Poison Jungle had extra large fauna and I ran with it. Perhaps in the past the jungle stretched farther, or the megafauna had access to more of the continent. Either way, the LeafWings had to hide, and they learned how to do it quite well.

The last thing I did was double the back sail and move it to the sides, so it doesn't look like a discount SeaWing. Sorry, but I wanted a more unique silhouette. That back spine design was already used for the SeaWings and I thought a smooth back would serve their camouflage better. They use their double frills to make their necks look thicker when they pretend to be a single leaf. I'll post some sketches of LeafWings camouflaging sometime!

REIMAGINED WINGS OF FIRE DRAGONS

This is a small project about redesigning Wings of Fire dragons with a small bit of speculative biology. Not evolution though; these creatures would barely evolve naturally.

Important mention: all of these redesigns are inspired by real life animals and creatures from Monster Hunter series. I do not own the originals, these are just fanart. Also, this artstyle isn't common for me, I mostly draw cartoony stuff.

SANDWINGS: inspired by scorpions, sand vipers, fennec foxes and sand cats, and also desert lizards.

SKYWINGS: inspired by eagles, hawks and pterosaurus.

LEAFWINGS: inspired by leaf-tailed geckos, anteaters and chameleons.

RAINWINGS: inspired by chameleons, boas and octopi.

NIGHTWINGS: inspired by bats and cave animals.

ICEWINGS: inspired by polar animals in general.

SEAWINGS: inspired by seals and catfish.

MUDWINGS: inspired by water buffalos and pseudosuchia.

BEETLEWINGS: an insect micry.

HIVEWINGS and SILKWINGS: inspires by wasps and moths. Descendants of BeetleWings.

Important mention 3: Lizard/Freedom. Because she is practically nothing out of these.

Flying animals have a hard time getting Big for a lot of reasons, but one of them is that legs are heavy. Incorporating your walking limbs into your airfoil is seemingly part of the reason pterosaurs could get so big. So thats what I did to the dragons :3.

theyre still hexapods though, with the weird birg inspired face hands. Wof dragons use a lot of tools and i wanted to give them dextrous hands in a weird way.

Pantala dragons still have four wings, using their back legs as another wing microraptor style. I tried to make them the same mammal reptile thing that the other dragons are so they have spurs on their arms and a split mandible to give them bug energy.

Another drawing of my precious beloved child <3333 Crow my beloved. This one was mostly drawn over 2hr periods on buses/trains so don’t look too close or you’ll definitely see some wonky lines. This one took close to seven hours *sob* that stare has absolutely zero braincells behind it /j nah they’re prolly having a vision or sommat I’m not quite decided on what their Nightwing powers are :p
