I talk of Gilmour and don't mention his major claim to fame? Yes, I forgot to mention his work with Pink Floyd. While the debate on whether or not they should be seen as that band under his leadershop remains, I would call them another edition of the group, which basically survived a lot, so their final incarnation does make sense. Gilmour transformed the band into an outgrowth of his solo work at the time, but I would suggest him collaborating with Wright and Mason made what he did on his own better. We mustn't forget – Pink Floyd didn't go all Chicago in their late 80's return, they became a progressive MOR rock. Believe me, this description sounds way more pejorative than intended, since they did something quite extraordinary – they still remained themselves.

can't stress enough that unitarian universalism rules and it wasn't anything to do with the faith itself or a single individual that made me stop going. it was a result of the massive difference between how the youth and adult offerings are structured that results in new adults who were raised uu having absolutely no options to continue accessing the type of spiritual community foundational to their spiritual practices. & the specific ways i was continually shown by the established adult community at my fellowship that my needs & the young adult community's needs as a whole did not matter.

it has been a really long time since the anchorage unitarian universalists broke my heart like longer than this blog has existed but i'm going to [current city]'s fellowship today for the first time to see if there's a home for me there and i just like. want to tell you guys

This is so true! As a Canadian, it is impossible to watch the CBC news without 70-90% of the news being American, it’s like, we have problems happening here too! And what makes the issues worse is that by focusing on American media and issues we place more importance on America, Canada is losing a lot of its university graduates to American businesses because the American “scene” is viewed as more significant and impressive (and our dollar doesn’t help much). For goodness sake the CBC coverage of the American election was more detailed and prolonged than coverage for our own election!! We recently had a leadershop race for one of our major political parties and it got almost no coverage compared to the democratic primaries. It’s ridiculous.

I'll be entirely honest, Nor Cal is fucking amazing geographically, but fuck the laws and the people who love them, and the disconnected town leadershop that's hell-bent on gentrifying the fuck out this town. If you so obsessed with big city living and it's ideas, then move there, some people just want to be left alone and enjoy the perks of small town living, there's a large enough city less than an hour away.

IIRC, he mentioned Tangle was created because the book needs a cool adventurous girl... as if Amy didn't exist. :/

I dunno, but the way he describes Amy sounds an awful lot when someone (probably him unless I'm midtaken) said that Sonic's character can be written in a napkin.

Even when I wanted for Amy to lead others (since Knuckles stole the role due to that awful "Genesis/classic trio" favoritism), there really is not that much of that natural, plucky and charismatic way of leadership Amy displayed in Heroes, not her encouragement by believing in others... an aspect that is meant to contrast with Sonic's "I believe in myself".

Or what about being the character that brings a more genuinelly humane touch to the stories, like she did in some of the scenes from Sonic X (btw, unfaitly cut off from the US version)?

Or her compassion for people who have fallen to the side of evil? Since, all I see the comics focus is just on Amy's physical prowess, but hardly ever on the strength of her heart.

Heck, she doesn't even feel like the lead female character, as most of the narrative investmdnt has once again gone to the comic exclusive characters. Even Cream, a support character for a support character, has been given more emotive moments than Amy herself.

Add that Flynn to this day can't mention an aspect of Amy such as leadershop without being compared to Sally, who will always be "teh bestest evar!1" and my confidence in his writing is shattered... a shame since Amy had a very strong introduction into IDW on issue #2.

Ian Flynn has also been saying in his BumbleKast recently how Amy doesn't really have a character beyond being sweet and friendly girl, when the games, Sonic X, and even the comics themselves demonstrated Amy as far more dimensional than that. Though it certainly explains why Amy was characterized as "Sally-esque" for the first few years of IDW.

And yet I'm still flummoxed why he's getting so much undeserved praise, many other writing foibles aside.
