I've once again seen a post on my dash about how Joey had to "fight" for Jaskier being queer this season.
I didn't reblog it cause I don't want to target one post in particular but people who make those posts need to understand this is factually wrong and just keep the hate towards Lauren growing for no reason.
It was Lauren who approached him. Joey said so himself. He praised her in many interviews for going that road. He worked with her on making sure it was done right, his words again (he seems quite aware of LGBTQA+ culture and maybe his sensibilities are a bit more "up to date" than the average straight person. If Lauren and most of the writers are straight, it seems logical for them to struggle to make it not cliché and for Joey to help make it something the community would like more, but that is just my theory).
But he never said he had to fight for it as much as people say he did, on the contrary. He said in at least one interview that it was very collaborative. From what I understand in some of his interviews he possibly wanted more control over Jaskier's journey this season but he certainly didn't have to fight for it. People seem to have gotten that idea from Joey's "essay" but at no point did he say it was to fix what they did. He obviously had an idea of what he wanted to do and asked for re writes and cuts in the dialogue to add more music. Every interview where he mentions this he pretty much says he was helping and collaborating with the writers. This sounds pretty normal to me as every actor on this show (Henry in particular) seems to be allowed to participate with the writing of their own character.
I know most of the fandom loves to believe all the good parts come from the actors and all the bad ideas come from Lauren (she obviously hasn't always made good choices and I'm not excusing her for the mess season 2 was) but this is just deforming what Joey actually said and taking some of the credit away from other people.
I love that Jaskier is pan. It's one of my favourite parts of the season. But it was not just Joey's idea it was Lauren's as well. Credit where credit's due. She's not as bad as the fandom makes her to be and she's a big reason why season 3 is so good. I don't love the way she try to sell the show as something never seen before because it still is mostly adapted from the books but nobody can argue when it comes to Jaskier that she made him a lot better than Dandelion (who I love to death but he's a little shit and I think Jaskier is a much more interesting character).

Happy Sunday to everyone except Lauren Schmidt Hissrich, every producer and writer for The Witcher for ruining such a cool story. Motherf*ckers! I'm still beyond pissed at them.

The newest season of the show, which is inspired by the second installment in Andrzej Sapkowski’s Witcher book series, Time of Contempt, will finally see our hero reckoning with his feelings after two seasons of steely, tough-guy detachment. Explains creator Lauren Schmidt Hissrich, “For years, Geralt has claimed neutrality, shunned politics and publicly asserted that witchers don’t have emotions — all to make his life as a killer easier to navigate. We’ve seen him battle monsters and monstrous humans; we’ve watched as he’s hardened himself in order to survive. This season, he can no longer do that.”
That’s right: Geralt is in his feelings. “He can’t pretend that he doesn’t feel. He can’t pretend that he’s impenetrable,” Hissrich tells Tudum. “Because, despite the ups and downs of last season and the trust that has to be rebuilt, he’s realized that Yennefer and Ciri are his destiny, his family and the loves of his life. This is the foundation of his journey for the rest of his life — and the rest of this show.”

‘The Witcher’s Joey Batey Teases Romance for Jaskier in Season 3: “With More Than One Person, Maybe?”
‘The Witcher’s Joey Batey Teases Romance for Jaskier in Season 3: “With More Than One Person, Maybe?”
The Witcher: Blood Origin may be telling a brand-new story, but it starts with a familiar face. The upcoming miniseries, though set in the past, features none other than a present-day version of Jaskier (Joey Batey).  Exactly how the bard relates to this story of the Continent’s first witcher is a surprise that fans will have to wait and see for themselves. But during a recent press day for the…

Just had someone on Instagram tell me that LSH „forced“ Cavill and Anya to do nude scenes for her own pleasure
And I really do not want to get involve in this whole shit show where everyone is bitching at eachother, but I am begging people to look up how movie-making works. You can not „force“ actors to do nudity (especially not after GoT and the DC Justice league mess). This is what contracts are for, this is why sets have an IC, this is what the 48 hour notice is for
And then I beg people to look up the definition of an „interview“. This is never and will NEVER be a fact based article. An interview is always an opinion. ONE opinion, one sided. Even if you have both sides, it is still just an opinion, not facts.

There aren't enough nasty words in this world to explain who much I f*cking hate season 3
Boring af
A complete waste of time and money
Heroic send-off for Henry as Geralt? Really, Lauren, really?! The only one who got a "heroic send-off" was Stregobor, yes, Stregobor died as a "hero" helping the mages while enjoying killing the elves, like the bigot he is.
Seriously, this season made the last season of GOT a freaking masterpiece in comparison!!!!
No wonder Henry decided to go. He barely got any screen time this season, especially in the last 3 episodes. I'm surprised he stayed and didn't tell them to f*ck off and left -he likely stayed only for legal purposes.
I hope that sh*tshow gets canceled. Such a waste of time and money.

I understand how going so far as to mock the source material you’re adapting within the writer’s room can be bad for morale (not that we know what in this case constitutes “mocking”) but in this landscape of fanboy pandering, I respect Lauren Schmidt Hissrich for not hiring fans of The Witcher to work on the show. If you don’t like the storytelling in the adaptation of the thing as much as the source material, that’s your opinion and I can’t tell you not to have it, but I can and will tell you that slavish fidelity for its own sake is not a virtue.

Oh I see we're believing clickbait articles that take quotes out of context on Beyonce's internet, still. But hey, why not go to sources these days. The quote is about him wanting to play the role before it was cast. He was bothering her before the show was even written. I imagine the constant badgering while you're going through an auditon process.
“It was something I wasn’t going to let pass me by without giving it my best shot. I annoyed my agents all the time. They said, ‘They’re not ready.’” - Henry talking about telling his agents to keep after them to get the role, which is fine.
""I will meet with you. The show is not green-lit. There is nothing […] Thank you. Now I have to go write the show," she said." Lauren, replying and telling him that the show isn't even greenlit and she will meet him when casting starts, but right now she needs to go WRITE IT.
But sure, just keep throwing this woman under the bus because you don't like the direction she is taking your show and think this man is the be all end all of casting and lore knowledge.

While bloody battles and ingenious political coups are always tantalizing, the heart of Season 3 beats for the family at its center. “What I think is really fun about this season is you get Geralt, Ciri and Yen — they’re linked by destiny. We’ve said that from the very beginning,” Schmidt Hissrich says. “Yet clearly by this point they want to be together. And so that’s more than destiny. Suddenly that’s a choice.”
The choice makes everything all the more precarious for Geralt, Ciri and Yen since they finally have something important to lose.
[...]
“We talked about: What has to happen for Geralt to trust Yen again?” Schmidt Hissrich says.
Instead of bonding them through physical attraction — really just plain lust — as had been done in the past, “they get to come together as partners. Since it’s not just about them anymore,” Schmidt Hissrich says. “It becomes more than romance. It also becomes about soulmates.”
Chalotra lights up at the idea of Yennefer and Geralt as soulmates. “One thing that they can’t deny is their history and the connection that’s inescapable,” she says. “They’re pulled towards each other, but more important than that, they need each other.”
That’s why, Schmidt Hissrich says, the core theme of Season 3 is: “Family is worth fighting for.”
