Castles as Buildings, Metaphors and Systems of Power Virtual Artist Residency

Final Deadline to Apply: Monday, 4 November 2024. A month-long, virtual/online collage artist residency in November and December 2024. As part of a year-long investigation of castles as buildings, metaphors, and systems of power, Kolaj Institute will host a month-long virtual artist residency focused on castles and the space they occupy in our contemporary imagination. The residency will build on the work done by artists in Collage Artist Residency: Scotland and New Orleans where artists explored feudal castle systems, manor houses, and plantations as buildings, metaphors, and systems of power. After the Residency, artists will be invited to propose artwork for inclusion in Kolaj Institute’s Castle Project, an exhibition, book, and related programs in 2025-2026 that invite viewers to consider how the history of castles, colonies, plantations, and corporations relate to one another and shape the world we live in today. Laura Iseley’s Chateau de Femme is one part of a diptych that invites the viewer to consider how castles are gendered.  She made this collage after exploring Sanquhar Castle and Dumfries House in Scotland. Elokuvantekijä Patty Greer kirjoittaa: ”Harvat tietävät mitä sisäpiirissä toimineet naiset ovat joutuneet kokemaan puhuessaan moniulotteisesta maapallosta viimeisten vuosikymmenten aikana. Miksi? Koska nämä naiset puhuvat avoimen rehellisesti heidän ET-kontaktikokemuksistaan, konseptista josta harvat ovat valmiita kuulemaan. Pelottomasti nämä naiset ovat kestäneet kaikki nämä vuodet ja kaikki ovat astuneet esiin uskomattoman rohkealla työllä kirjjojen, elokuvien ja haastattelujen kautta. Jokainen heistä on sietänyt uskomattoman paljon hakkerointia, talousvaikeuksia, ystävien menetyksiä ja uhkailuja kiusaajilta ja varkailta. Julkisuudessa harvoin saa kuulla mitä kaikkea me käymme läpi koska ’ne’ tuntuvat kontrolloivan suurinta osaa valemediasivustoista. Ei kuitenkaan kauaa koska ajat todellakin muuttuvat ja erottelukyky on jälleen sosiaalisesti hyväksyttävää!

well I finally finished reading the complete Ouran High School Host Club manga series.. it was perfect, and I enjoyed the entire journey immensely. My only complaint is that there isn’t more 😭 now I’m sad and miss my hosts (i.e. the hunt for fic begins)
