Canon: Ba Ye got so tired pulling up water from the well, that he couldn’t hold his chopsticks anymore when he ate with Zhang Fu Guan and Pang zi, and thus refused to eat (because he was embarrassed).

Logical Headcanon: After Pang zi left, Zhang Fu Guan picked up Ba Ye’s chopsticks and fed him so he wouldn’t go hungry.

@brett81014 and I signed our dream apartment lease, so we celebrated with some amazing hot pot at @hotpot9_chicago !! It was an amazing deal- $26 all you can eat! We did the spicy broth (pro tip: soo the “tiny spicy”- it will be plenty spicy 😉) and definitely order ordered on food but it was so tasty. Our favorites were the lamb, beef, dumplings, mushrooms, and corn but everything was amazing! Also a really cool vibe- big fan of this place! based on laojiumen [ the mystic nine ] and daomu biji [ the lost tomb ]

            9 families, 1 organization, 1 secret...when one falls, all falls leaving the next generation scrambling to keep things together, scrambling to not only uncover the secrets their predecessors have unearthed for themselves while trying to keep the wrong people from accessing items that can cause the fall of the world. a legacy left to them by their ancestors, their bloodline runs deep, but their trust for each other is runs deep yet seemingly superficial. 9 families, 1 tragedy, 1 goal.              all under the age of 30, they struggle together as nine friends, some shallow connected by blood....under the scrutiny of the public as they’re young but they’re not naive, they’ve trained their entire life for this.

1 — yang suyin ( sophie yang ) [ fc : han dong ] ; previously a military family, currently a private military / private security, runs as the CEO of the yang secom after her parents’ passing. has some knowledge in forensics 2 — liu dekao ( devin liu ) [ fc : hou minghao ] ; hails from a family of theater actors, currently an actor on stage and on camera, assists in running his father’s entertainment company since his dad’s passing. 3 — fang qiuyue ( august fang ) [ fc : yu qi ] ; hails from a family of archaeologists and historians, currently in the process of achieving her masters, assistance is provided to her by her mother’s side of the family 4 — huang zilan ( cherry huang ) [ fc : xuanyi ] ; family owns multiple hotels worldwide, runs as the CEO with a multitude of support from hong jie and tang guiying as well as with her 3 siblings. 5 — tang guiying ( gabriel tang ) [ fc : cai xukun ] ; inherited his family’s import-export company, a multi-millionaire with huge charisma, despite money, he values his friends and family more 6 — hong jie ( jay hong ) [ fc : lin yanjun ] ; head of an IT company and works with multiple branches of the nine families, is not what his family initially started out doing 7 — zhang weiru ( william zhang ) [ fc : lu han ] ; a laidback architect that runs his late father’s architectural firm, from small homes to large buildings, he puts his entire heart into his creations, he’s recently picked up interior designing 8 — chen minxia ( minnie chen ) [ fc : elkie chong ] ; antique and art collector / dealer, a family of antiquity collectors, she has an eye for what’s precious and of value. a keen eye for detail, she loves to travel quite a fair bit to see what she can find. she is also an art restorer, damaged objects can be brought to her for retouching / fixing 9 — yuan xiulan ( sydney yuan ) [ fc : zhou jieqiong ] ; a researcher and a realist, she wants nothing to do with whatever her family past had, she tries to push it back into the darkness and refuses to be associated with the other 8 families and whatever trouble they’ve been entangled in...the longer she can get away, the better it is...secrets should remain secrets, there’s no need to dig it all up.

Daomu Recommendation 13

For some reason this has been sitting around in my drafts for forever and not released. So here ya go, another round of recommendations for the start of 2017, mostly PingXie-centric. Links to the fics can be found here. Titles and writers are also searchable online. 

Canon:

1. 城池几重 by  袖珍小花卷i. Another Daomu classic - I got a feeling this was written before the end of Daomu 8, hence there were several spots that contradicted with the ending of the original story. Nonetheless, the plot is highly suspenseful, with elaborate descriptions of the tomb and its traps. My primary critique is the romance between Pingxie and Heihua (yes, there’s a love triangle between Heixiazi x Xieyuchen x original OC) which seemed out-of-place in the story. Otherwise, ignoring the cheesy romantic moments, the story is very engaging.

2.  翡翠麒麟牌 by 郁绘离. Set after Sha Hai. This is a short story with WuXie resolving a case of a cursed jade ornament. Humorous and very in character with Sha Hai WuXie <3

3.  六道轮回 by 河山谁据. A short fic set right after the ten years wait. Love how it ties to the six realms of samsara. 

4. 命定劫数 by 加辣小龙虾.��Set during the LaoJiuMen era. Kylin visited the JiuMen and asked for their help. QiTieZui with the ability to calculate futures, tells WuLaoGou that Kylin would have close ties with his family in the future. One-shot,

5. 雨村记事 by 熙AKIRA. Set 10 years later in the Rain Village. A series of light-hearted short fics detailing the Iron Triangle's life in the rural areas, with special focus on WuXie and Kylin Zhang. Fictions in this series: 《计较》, 《生病》, 《访客》,《朋友圈》, 《邻居》, 《午觉》、《技能》、《止痒》, 《说话》、《听话》, 《冲凉》、《打球》.

6. 人形泥偶 by 林檎碳.  Set 10 years later in which the Iron Triangle made a visit to a small village in FuJian during Chinese Valentines. Kylin made a mud doll for WuXie. One-shot.

7. 碰瓷 by 六零零七.  Set 10 years later in the rain village. Peng Tao - the art of conning by pretending to be hit by a car. What happens when Kylin Zhang happens to be the one driving the car? One-shot.

8. 问佛 by 洛城天青. Set around ShaHai period. Kylin came upon a young lama during his travel. The short fic details his attempts to remember the young lama who looks very familiar. *highly recommend*

9. 坐禅 by 洛城天青. Set around ShaHai period but is mainly connected to the ZangHaiHua universe. WuXie overheard someone destroying the statue that Kylin carved. Outraged, he went and stop the person only to find...Kylin? Said man has lost his memories again and was carving out the heart of the statue.

10. 找狗 by T_theresa. Set after 10 years - One day WuXie's dog (Xiao Man Ge) decided to run before it reached WuXie's house. In confusion, WuXie tried to uncover the reason for the dog's flight. Cute one-shot.

11. 夜钓 by 鲪恪. Set after 10 years when WuXie and Kylin went for a night fishing. Sweet short fic.

12. 雪色里的三昼夜 by kuencar.  Set during Shahai period where WuXie reminisce memories from the past. *Highly recommend*

13. 南吴北普 by 此处用户名. Set after ten years during Wuxie's birthday. It was cute how everyone made fun of his southern accent xD

14. 愿者上钩 by Helvian_薇安糕. Set after ten years in the rain village. Due to the change in season and wetness, WuXie contracted some sort of skin rash. Kylin helped solve the problem. Sweet one-shot.

15. 到南方避寒 by 不务正业的雪糕. Set after ten years in the rain village. Winter is here and Kylin Zhang has a plan to go south.

16. 元旦烟火 by 不务正业的雪糕. Set after ten years in the rain village. Sweet one-shot in which Wuxie and Kylin watch fireworks together.

17. 煎茶 by 末自. Set after ten years in the rain village. WuXie tried to start a tea tourism business and recollect the times he had ruined the tea which was unfortunately consumed by Kylin. Sweet one-shot.

AU:

1. 老张东北土菜馆  by  柏舟660 - PingXie. The cliche of Kylin Zhang trying to woo Wu Xie by hiding his real identity and secretly establishing a restaurant nearby. But hey, who doesn’t love a cliche (and who doesn’t love the writer’s description of the food *shot*)?

2.  杭州事變 by  猪娘 - PingXie.  WuXie - the son of a thief clan - visited HangZhou to keep an eye on the second-general-in-command Kylin. A chance meeting when they were young and a series of events led ultimately to them being together. Absolutely love the author’s style of writing, so calming and detailed. There is a second part to this story, but unfortunately I only found parts of it. ):

3.  远镇 by  静熊叔叔 - PingXie, a series of small excerpts detailing their relationship. For those who prefer simple stories. 

4. 石头记 by  踯躅花上杜鹃啼 - PingXie. The story starts off with WuXie finding a stranger (Kylin Zhang) in his stationary store one night. After learning that Kylin was simply hungry and had lost his memories, WuXie decided to take him in. They later on embark on a series of adventures involving supernaturals and mysteries. Another classic, the first half was nice, but I felt that the later half was really rushed ,__, 

5.  江梅引 by 夏槿茉 - Pingxie. A series of short angsty story set in the ancient era, You can treat them as  separate stories or continuous reincarnations. For those who love angst : ) 

6.  神谕之夜 by 安九西 - PingXie. WuXie died during a train crash while traveling towards QingHai. Half a year later, an author by the name of GuanGen with the same face as WuXie appeared. At that time Kylin was still suffering from the loss of his lover, yet GuanGen was falling in love with Kylin, only to find WuXie returning again. I really love fics like these that asks questions about a person’s existence >w<

7   看灯 by 风流邪灵. PingXie. Zhang Qi Shan longed for immortality, thus starting a nefarious project using the LaoJiuMen to gain immortality. Unfortunately WuXie became privy to this project and a series of adventures ensued, where WuXie and kylin worked hard to evade Zhang Qi Shan while uncovering the mysteries of immortality. My main critique of this piece was that it really didn’t explain why WuXie would be banished to the mountains in the first place.....

8. 在你眼里 by 冷绯蓝. Pingxie. In which the Zhang family asked WuXie - a novelist - to help write a script featuring a story with Kylin as the main actor.

9. 断背岛 by 西班牙大苍蝇. Pingxie. Simple story of two engineers on an island testing out rockets.

10. 天上的水 by 污叽白凤丸. Told from a third person's perspective of a principal and his falcon. *Highly recommend*

11. 偷影子的人 by Helvian_薇安糕. Semi-canon universe? WuXie has the ability to steal people's shadows and relive their lives in his dreams, occasionally going as far as predicting the person's future. When he accidentally stole Kylin's shadow, he relived his life and fell in love. Bitter-sweet ending.

12. 生死判 by 打开新页为中华之崛起而烙饼关注. One-shot. WuXie died, framed for something he didn’t do. As the arbiter of souls and whether they enter the samsara, Kylin helped resolve the case.

13. 互换 by RheaGreeny. What would happen if WuXie and Kylin switched souls?

I mean, now that I am emotionally invested in Sha Hai but feeling nostalgic about Lao Jiu Men and missing Ba Ye a lot, it is a good time to remind myself of  one of my favourite Fu Ba scenes in LJM, namely:

Watching the scene where Qishan and Xin Yue are saying goodbye and it just hit me how "lonely" (lonely?) Zhang Rishan's life must be in canon. Like. At no point they show him having any family (except for Fo Ye). No lovers. No friends (if we take away his relationship with Ba Ye). No hobbies. He only has his work, his subordinates and Fo Ye. No wonder why he is so depressed in Sha Hai. Everything that was his life has disappeared.
