we prepared pretty well for the storm and didn't lose power but we're Still iced in. it stopped sleeting for long enough tonight for me to strap some microspikes onto my sneakers and walk to a convenience store for milk, which made me laugh because even back in new hampshire i never needed microspikes for anything except hiking. when it ices here, there is nothing to be done. nh infrastructure is full of salt trucks and plows and shovels for sidewalks and whatnot, but here there will be full inches of ice on the road and on the sidewalks until it melts. usually it melts in a day! when you're feeling the effects of ongoing climate catastrophe, tho, it does not. It Cold
anyway it felt good to get out of the house and stretch my legs but my calves and feet are now burning So Bad. walking a mile having to dig spikes into ice with every step is probably the physical equivalent of 2-3 miles on normal terrain.
also i fell once when the spikes on one foot slipped off but i didn't die. 🥳

a stupid pet peeve about my housemate that makes me irrationally furious is that she always uses these cute little delicate ceramic dishes as spoon rests when she's cooking.
because the thing is, she's a really messy cook. like idk how she manages it, but if she cooks a single fried egg on one burner, there will be a 1 ft blast radius of grease splatters & spices & egg bits around that burner that she never seems to notice & therefore doesn't wipe up. heaven forbid if she cooks a larger meal that uses multiple burners.
so when she uses her stupid adorable spoon rests to keep her utensils from dirtying surfaces, the effect in practice is that there will be a thick layer of caked on cooking detritus covering the entire vicinity, with a perfectly clean 2 inch circle underneath the spoon rest.
and lord help me, the sight of that single tiny dish on the stove top, having utterly failed in its duty except to highlight how greasy the rest of the kitchen is—

Hey y'all's in the state of Kansas DO NOT, UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES, RENT FROM EUCALYPTUS REALTY or ANY Property owned by LEW MCGINNIS
First, my experience with them;
I had a 6 month lease filed with an apartment building that ended in October 2021, I signed the paper confirming I would be out in october, I moved out in october 2021. I had an eviction filed against me November 4th, 2021. I just found out they succeeded in filing an eviction against me. I was not contacted regarding this at all, even though they had my active phone number on file and had called me after I moved regarding paperwork on an old roommate who'd moved earlier in the year. They filed an eviction on me, for an apartment I was not living in, after my lease had ended, and made zero attempt at contacting me. I did not find out until attempting to rent a house with a friend. Noone has answered the phone for me, or for the new renting agency, and my application is going to be denied. All because of an eviction filed against me. For an apartment I did not live in anymore. After my lease had ended. What should I do now? I would try to pay anything they're trying to charge if I could get them on the phone. It's not like I can fight it in court, they already won. Everything I'm reading just says "ask the owner nicely to get it removed" and I don't think that's possible now given what I've found since looking into them.
Because HERE'S what I found after a little digging;
The owner is a real estate person based out of Oklahoma, and owns multiple properties in Topeka, Emporia, and Wichita (I found the number 35 in Topeka, but I couldn't verify that or tell you how many in the other two cities) . I'm finding all these news artical now about how he's filed the most evictions out of any realitor in my county, how his properties have major upkeep issues (my apartment had a hole through the glass back door that was never fixed, and I have video I can dig up of a leak in my ceiling from the apartment above me pouring water into my bathroom multiple times a day. Not leaking, or dropping, POURING, and it only got fixed cause I was lucky enough to run into the handyman and speak with him myself, and I'm even luckier he was there to run into) how he's had mold outbreaks in both Topeka and Emporia due to maintenance neglect, literal tax evasion on those Emporia properties , bribing tenants for good reviews in Wichita (he later refused to pay), rent hikes (the whole reason I didn't renew my lease is because of a 100$ rent hikes + new fees), bedbug and roach issues among other things.
This feels completely unfixable. I'm going to have to grovle at this man's feet to fix the fact that HE EVICTED ME FROM AN EMPTY APARTMENT AFTER MY LEASE HAD ENDED and even then it's not gaurinteeed.
Y'all's should boost this cause I don't want anyone else in ks to get stuck dealing with this shit
Don't rent from Eucalyptus Realty or Lew McGinnus

Just going to complain a little bit because man this is fuckin absurd.
So my water heater broke, literally a week after it was "fixed". I had my suspicions about it being fixed, because I did a little digging myself and it didn't seem like something that simply switching the mode would help, I would probably need a part replaced. But that was a week ago. I've already spent a week in winter (through Christmas!) without any hot or warm water, while the temperature outside dipped below freezing and stayed there. My personal estimate is that my tap water is now at about 39 degrees Fahrenheit, and it has been this way for a week. However, and here comes the really frustrating part: I've contacted the property management days before the 24th, told them this is an urgent issue, they contacted me saying someone will show up and guess what? Nobody has shown up. Not only has nobody shown up, but they sounded annoyed when I asked them to give me an approximate time of when they could come in. Now, I wasn't asking this question to force them to come look at it sooner, I was asking about it because I work fucking night shift. I need sleep. If they can just tell me approximately when they can come here then I will be able to get some sleep, albeit fragmented sleep, before I go off to work for 13 hours straight. But oh no they sounded annoyed. And by the way last week when they "fixed" the problem, because they said it was a simple "change the mode" thing, I asked them what mode it should be on, and their reply was "are you trying to take my job?" Like fuck you, this was never about you, I just want the hot water that I paid for, plain and simple.
Anyway, problem remains unresolved, and I'm still trying to get a hold of them. This property management (meaning everyone there from the agents to the techs) has been known to ignore phone calls and requests, and I'm getting really fucking tired of paying them for basic services that they are reluctant about providing.
