Current study finds LSD could be effective in treating anxiety
In my private practice, my clients who microdose with LSD report that they experience a relief from anxiety. According to their experiences, psychedelics assist in facing, engaging, and actively participating in various aspects of life, allowing for a hei
It’s concerning to note that there are over 40 million people in the USA who suffer from anxiety, with some statistics suggesting that nearly one out of five adults are affected. This highlights the importance of raising awareness about mental health and ensuring that support and resources are readily available for those in need. Anxiety is how our bodies respond to stress either physical,…

saturn in pisces
how are you? how are you, people with saturn in pisces? any experiencie? happy saturn return.
First, say some differences: saturn in capricorn, for example, give more real challenges in the 3D world (have a difficult work, have 2 works, have an accident- but this is more saturn in fire signs-, or just have a bad boss).
but saturn in pisces??? pisces refers inner world, so im gonna say some examples that ilustrate the idea of INNER (pisces) CHALLENGES (saturn)
Control a badtrip of LSD and try to not dead in the process.
Control anxiety
Control adictions (not only drugs or alcohol, but also food, love, lazy habits, tocs, etc)
Think a lot in religion and mysteries about it.
Ok, maybe are not the best examples, but that i want to say its that in general, we think that saturn is just have more work, or more activities in our calendar. But in pisces, the work is INSIDE. Not like Saturn in Cancer or Saturn in Scorpio (the other 2 water signs), where, emotional work is more like therapy (like own love, forget your ex, asertivity, etc). No, Pisces energy go beyond psycology words. Pisces is more like spiritual language.
Pisces is more near to "generacion espontanea", to create since the poverty, to create in solitude. Pisces is also co-ruled by Jupiter (rich) so pisces represents rich but not always money, but inner rich. In this case pisces represents HIDDEN TALENTS. So saturn in pisces (specially now, in saturn return) saturn calls to work in these hidden talents.
greetings

I only ever watched the first twenty minutes of this a couple of years ago so I'm watching this today (yes, for my fic ahaha) and will note my thoughts:
"they're AGAINST so many things but are they FOR anything?" I mean, ....some of them were
The opening scene where he's walking down the street and a bunch of hippies start walking with him and grinning is hilarious
There's a shot of a young woman who is supposedly having "a freak out" (a bad trip) being dragged into the hospital by cops, and she sounds somewhat lucid to me ("do my friends know where I am? where are you taking me??? where am I??") but also, I don't think putting her in a cop car and dragging her to the hospital was likely to improve her mental state. (All they can do is give you a bed, keep an eye on you, and maybe sedate you; tho I suspect they also just restrained people sometimes.)
they interview a doctor who says "there's no way to predict who will have a bad trip [on LSD]" but we sorta did know how to prevent them?? Set and setting was talked about for years already. That said: a lot of people of that era did in fact use it very irresponsibly, or did stupidly high doses, and even gave it to people without their consent.
"They try to live without money but still beg" I mean. yeah the problem is that you can't live without money. But some of them were trying to make money obsolete to some extent (like the Diggers).
Tumblr media
Watching a scene recorded at the offices of the San Francisco Oracle, I can't help thinking "man those would be worth money now" (I checked ebay just now--actual print copies of original issues are in the $100 range)(I have scans on DVD, which is by far the cheapest way to own/read it)
They interview a guy working there and he says "life should be a joy, and it's a drag!" and he talks about the "absurdity" of people driving to work every day in metal boxes by themselves, and like, he's not wrong. He also mentions the "alienation of middle-class life" which again: not wrong, especially at the time. Suburban life was just so much more stifling.
"They want a group of mutual support and affection to belong to" Well yeah that's. a normal human desire?? Does Harry Reasoner think that's a bad thing?
Oh hey they cover the Diggers feeding people in the Panhandle once a day: "This feeding typifies the hippie ideal of standing apart from society by means of mutual help and love. It contains its own ironies, for the daily feed is itself dependent on the food being offered by the very society that is being rejected" jfc so much of this just has big "And yet you participate in society!! Curious. I am very intelligent" energy lol
Okay so a doctor dude calls out how hippies say they love everyone in a very general sense but are incapable of loving another specific person that "might make demands of them," and tbh I think that was sometimes true. He also talks about how many of them seem to be using LSD because they struggle with managing negative feelings (especially anger), and again: not entirely wrong. (It's worth noting that in interviews with people who'd been teenagers during the Summer of Love, there were a LOT of stories of people escaping abusive homes, including numerous accounts of CSA, which imho puts the "they do LSD bc they can't deal with negative emotions" in a very different light)
A couple of hippies point out: Y'know we do drugs in part just to increase our sensory experience, right?? Like it's great listening to music on it. You know that, right????
"LSD will damage your chromosomes!!" Thankfully, that one was disproven.
So they interview a young guy in a psych ward about his experiences with LSD, and this poor kid describes what was obviously severe social anxiety, and that taking LSD a few times cured it--he was no longer anxious that other people would reject him, because LSD gave him that (very common on LSD) effect of feeling "at one" with all people/living things/the universe, and instilled in him the concept that all humans are beautiful. "I'm not afraid of people anymore, because even if they reject me, they're still beautiful." Harry Reasoner is like "but it's fake" my dude shut up. oh my god. Harry: "but what about dangerous people?" Kid: "yeah, there's dangerous people, but they're still beautiful." Harry' just like "okay but you SHOULD be afraid of other people" and the kid's just like. Nah.
Like, they're researching using hallucinogens for treating things like anxiety NOW. Because it sometimes works!
Tbh this kid seems pretty lucid and smart. And the reason he's in there is that he "talked about God too much" so his mother had him committed.
Harry: "So tell me what God's like." Kid: "First of all God is everything, so he's like everything. He is everything. There's nothing that he isn't." This kid doesn't seem crazy to me. He's saying shit tons and tons of people have said!! Someone give him a copy of Julian of Norwich's "shewings." He's not alone.
Holy shit they interviewed this kid's mom and wow. Yeah she's just. Refusing to actually validate anything her son has said to her. "I can't describe to you the feeling that it gives you when your son says to you, 'Can't you feel it, God is everywhere...' But I told him, 'You don't see God until you die!'" Your son is saying the same shit mystics have said throughout history, lady; and he's expressing himself very clearly for a teenager. I'm not going to quote all the bullshit she says but she clearly just has a very sensitive son who had anxiety, and LSD gave him a sense of wonder at the universe, and she thinks that means he's crazy. (She does mention that drug use should be a medical issue and not a criminal one, so points to her for that; but based on what they showed, her son shouldn't have been locked up.)
They also interview a teenage girl who is there after multiple suicide attempts. She was on LSD when the people she was with sexually assaulted her, and shortly after she first attempted suicide. And again they interview the mom...who describes a textbook case of major depression after a traumatic event: "She lost interest in herself, she was very lethargic. She didn't want to do anything, even things she used to do." The girl attempted suicide two more times. Mom is trying to do the right thing, here. But again, this wasn't the fault of LSD?? It's the fault of the people who assaulted her?
God, this is heartbreaking: "When I found out, I didn't know what to say. And she asked me, 'Are you angry at me?' and I said, 'Why would I be angry [at you]?' I just didn't think this would happen. I wanted something better for her." ;_;
They bring on some doctor of neuropsychiatry who says absolute word vomit ("This is really a very serious malignant form of modern civilization which means that we no longer have the stamina to really hassle with our youngsters in a purposeful way of learning," and he keeps going! Sir, are you DRUNK?)
They go to a crash house run by the Diggers and act like giving homeless kids a place to sleep and food to eat is harming them. But you see this even NOW in cities with high homeless populations--the idea that housing/feeding them is only enabling them. (Don't even get me started that shit it makes me furious.)
They admit the hippie movement sounds real attractive to young people and openly list the reasons: "The way they dress, the way they advocate love as opposed to hate, peace as opposed to war, self expression as opposed to inhibition. All these things put them in the role of courageous and warm-hearted rebels against cold stiff square old-fashioned authority." I mean. Yeah????? I know people hate on boomers a lot, but for real, they were rebelling against pretty hardcore "conform or die" messaging from the 50's, plus the Vietnam War.
"Doctors see a universal danger in use of LSD: they feel that normally rebellious young people may be turned into emotional cripples. At a time when they should be meeting and solving problems of sexuality and personal identity, they deaden their drives with a magic pill which solves nothing. They may never grow up." This is at least half "suffering is good for you" rhetoric. Also by "sexuality" they don't mean "figure out if I'm gay" lol they mean "realize you might want sex, and therefore get married and have children."
The talk to a few people at one of the Digger crash houses. One of them is like, "I like it here. I have my own room and I cook food for everyone." She literally just....found a sense of meaning by helping people out and being around people with the same ideals as her. This is not a bad thing.
BAAAHAHAHAHA THEY GO TO THE GRATEFUL DEAD HOUSE
They admit plenty of the hippies are hard workers trying to create a better world--but because that better world is at least partially inspired by their experiences on LSD, those ideas are completely dismissed.
Tumblr media
Look at this BABY-FACED JERRY GARCIA
Anyway the members of the Grateful Dead talk about how they do want a more peaceful world and a simple life (hahhhhh) and that, yes, most people decide to be hippies after doing LSD, but that plenty of people do it a few times and stop, because they've learned what LSD had to teach them.
They show people at a rock show, dunno where, but there's a liquid light show projected onto the stage and people are dancing, and ironically this is SUPER useful for my gd fic because I couldn't find any CROWD SHOTS from the original Fillmore or Avalon! Anyway apparently said theaters didn't sell alcohol, useful to know.
More scare-mongering about bad trips--which they admit could be brought on by being hungry and sleeping outside. (but giving them a warm place to sleep and food to eat is bad??)
OH HEY they talk about the Haight-Ashbury Free Clinic. (I looked it up and TIL: They didn't close until 2019.)
Some discussion of how other drugs were starting to come onto the scene--and they show a guy slumped over on the couch at the clinic. (On a related note: for real, heroin is bad. Like the anti-drug people are actually right on that one. Don't do heroin.)
The guy who started the clinic said that a lot of the older doctors who volunteer there, themselves have kids who are hippies. So there's this need to understand their kids better and a drive to help people like their own children. "The attitude [towards hippies who need healthcare] of 'let them die' changes when it's their own kid." Yeah I bet it does.
More from the guy who started the clinic: "One thing that people don't realize is that the Haight-Ashbury is a symptom, not a cause. And that the kids are attracted to the Haight-Ashbury because of some deprivation, primarily intellectual deprivation, in their former mode of life. And I think this is why [kids from] the middle class are so intensely involved in the Haight-Ashbury: because it is a product of the middle class. It's not a peripheral movement, it is a direct reaction against the forces that control the United States. And it's not an anarchist movement*, the hippies aren't interested in any philosophy, including communism! They just want to live their own life."
(*Some of the Diggers might disagree on that one lol)
Back to Harry Reasoner: "The way the hippies want to live seems in the end to consist of childish postures. They claim they want to be left alone, but they are masters at setting up public occasions which are bound to draw attention if not interference. Just as an unruly child will act up in a way that attracts adult intervention, and then complain about it." LOLOL this is literally just "they're having fun in public and it's not to my tastes, so I don't like it." Like their example is a band playing on a fire escape and people on the street dancing. That's Wholesome, my dude; you just don't like the music or the kind of dancing. But they BLOCKED TRAFFIC OH NOES. The cops show up, the band stops, the crowd starts singing "God Bless America" at the cops, lolol. Oh and then the Grateful Dead announce they're gonna play in the Panhandle, so the crowd wanders off. The Dead then play Dancing in the Street, which even Harry Reasoner admits is funny.
Tumblr media
"They object to the ills which beset society: social hatreds, money-grubbing, spiritual waste. But their remedy is to withdraw into private satisfactions." ....okay he's not entirely wrong there. Like, it's difficult to talk about hippies as this monolithic group that all want one thing, because that absolutely was not true. But for plenty of them, the goal was just to have a good time.
Finally, he lays out his theses:
"You can say three things about them. They, at their best, are trying for a kind of group sainthood. And saints running in groups are likely to be ludicrous. They depend on hallucination for their philosophy. This is not a new idea and it has never worked. And finally they offer a spurious attraction of the young: a corruption of the idea of innocence. Nothing in the world is as appealing as real innocence. But it is by definition a quality of childhood. People who can grow beards and make love are supposed to move from innocence to wisdom."
I.....what does that mean. Why are saints in groups "ludicrious." When was it tried before that didn't work. How the fuck does this guy define innocence and wisdom and why are they mutually incompatible??
And boy oh boy would he hate to find out that a very common idea among these people's kids/grandkids is going to be "I'm allowed childish pleasures and whimsy, as long as I pay my bills etc., if they make me happy and I'm not hurting anyone." Like, I watched this thing because I'm writing fanfiction about a cartoon (theoretically) aimed at children. Daci is downstairs playing a video game. This house has dozens of stuffed animals in it. We go to comic conventions.
Harry Reasoner would be so mad at us for doing all that stuff, instead of doing the marriage/kids/house in the suburbs thing ahahahhaaaaa
In this case, sir, the hippies won. Sorry.

hi more drug question
I have been told many many times that using ecstasy will basically fry your seratonin receptors so that you will never be able to feel happy again unless you are using the drug. I am assuming now that this is false but I am curious now as to how false. Is it something that CAN happen if you take too much at once or too often, or is this just random Drug Scary misinformation
Also also since wellbutrin is not an SSRI does LSD work when you are on it or does it also cancel it out
lol that's kind of an extreme version of what I usually hear! you're right that basically the answer here is no. this comes from a couple different things. first is MDMA induced serotonin toxicity, and 2nd is something called "serotonin syndrome" which is a real thing that can happen, but it's really really hard to get like this. prepare for a very long answer lmfaooo
MDMA induced serotonin toxicity occurs when you take too high doses too frequently. MDMA IS slightly neurotoxic, but so are many prescription drugs so don't let that word freak you out too much! basically MDMA works by dumping large amounts of serotonin into your brain, hence why it's the happy/love drug lol. if you take too much too often, your brain will straight up run out of serotonin. obviously that's bad! it's not as simple as "never feeling happy again" but you will essentially have depression for a bit because of lack of serotonin (on its own, low serotonin levels following modest MDMA use is not damaging and resolves within a few days) but the real problem is that if you are on MDMA with depleted serotonin, your brain will continue releasing dopamine which will attach to the serotonin receptors and damage them. this is what can cause long term depression symptoms, the damaged serotonin receptors. ultimately your brain will heal this on its own unless for some reason I guess you keep taking it a lot (which would have no effect. when you take too much MDMA your brain just runs out of serotonin to dump so like. it just won't work lol)?? it can also be treated with the supplement NAC, which I would recommend taking any time you use MDMA because of this!
to sum up MDMA toxicity: it can happen but only if you're misusing it! it's generally recommended that you dont do much more than 1 dose every 3 months or so to make sure your brain has time to reset. research interactions with anything else you're using (prescription or not), take some NAC in the weeks following a dose, drink a lot of water, keep your body temperature regular because that can worsen it, and take some antioxidants like alpha lipoic acid and grape seed oil during/immediately after taking MDMA - it's when you come down that your brain is delicate and could use the protection. also this may sound counterintuitive but weed also has antioxidant properties, so smoking it as you come down helps a lot. also if you DO have MDMA toxicity taking more MDMA will not help u feel happy unfortunately it will just make it worse lol, your brain only has so much serotonin to give
now serotonin syndrome can happen with the misuse of any drug that works on serotonin including MAOIs, SSRIs, and SNRIs, usually by taking a VERY large dose (but some people are just extremely sensitive). it usually takes care of itself eventually, but the amount of time it takes and stuff is kinda hard to pin down bc it's REALLY misunderstood and tends to be overly self diagnosed. again this is like super super hard to do. you would have to take a MASSIVE dose or mix it with other serotonin affecting drugs (ESPECIALLY MAOIs. DO NOT MIX MDMA WITH MAOI ANTI DEPRESSANTS). like 5 times the normal dose at least probably (partner is currently trying to find some literature on it so he'll add that in the replies if he finds anything interesting). it will cause things like heightened anxiety and body temperature and can cause kidney problems or seizures if it's like really bad and untreated. but you'd feel REALLY bad before it got to that point, so in general like, if you take any type of drug and feel extremely bad after go to the doctor lol. mostly this will also just heal itself; your brain is pretty resilient! again usually if this does happen it's very minor. cases bad enough to require hospitalization are exceedingly rare
to give you an example of what these can look like, I have a friend who was given about 3-4 times a regular dose by a fucking piece of shit asshole she knows and, this part is crucial, it was mixed with a very large amount of alcohol AND acid (which can slightly increase the neurotoxicity. normally not a huge issue but becomes one in circumstances like this), AND coke; like she was blackout drunk and while not on a lot of acid or coke, this is just too many things to have in your body and brain at one time. the mixture of such a large amount different drugs caused her what I'm guessing was a mild case of both of these things at once. she experienced slightly worsened depression for about 6 months after, and actually had a mild stutter for almost a year. I made sure she took some NAC and other things that aid brain healing, and she didn't try molly again for a long time to be super sure she didn't overload her brain before it was ready. this is a pretty extreme case, and even with that she has fully recovered thankfully. do NOT EVER do drugs with someone you don't trust with your life. DO NOT EVER do drugs in doses you have not confirmed for yourself to be safe and DO NOT EVER mix drugs without finding out if it's safe!!! just as a small aside though: usually taking molly and acid at the same time is perfectly safe. in fact it's called a candy flip and I HIGHLY recommend it because it's fucking awesome. again, just make sure you are taking safe doses in a safe environment
OKAY now finally your specific question about Wellbutrin: I actually take Wellbutrin so I can answer this one from personal experience! Wellbutrin should not alter the effects of LSD in any way HOWEVER! both of these drugs lower your seizure threshold! I'm on the max dose of Wellbutrin (which is the max dose BECAUSE of seizure risk) so when I plan to drop acid I usually either skip my dose entirely that day or only take half depending on how much acid I'm planning to take. because of the way Wellbutrin works, this shouldn't cause you any problems as far as that goes. for me, not taking my Wellbutrin for a day mainly has the effect of making me more fatigued, and acid counteracts that really well by making me feel very awake/aware. if you don't want to skip or halve your dose though you can also take things that will RAISE your seizure threshold. so like I sometimes will smoke hemp because CBD actually will help with that. the risk here isn't huge either way especially if you have no history of seizures, but again if it's something you're concerned about you should be just fine skipping or lowering your dose for the day. acid usually lasts about 12 hours too so i personally don't even care about skipping the Wellbutrin that much because it basically does the same thing for me. I did take my full Wellbutrin dose the last couple times I've done acid though because I was taking a very small amount of acid (about half a tab)
in summation lol sort of TLDR I generally would recommend MDMA for recreational use because the risks of damage are low and it's safe if you are safe about it. and it's honestly just a really fun one! the only negative effect I've ever felt is some emotional and physical fatigue the following day, and this is largely because of how emotional and energetic you are on it. I just make sure to have the next day off to lay around and listen to music :)
taking it with a partner or loved one will give you an especially beautiful experience, as MDMA has been proven to facilitate extremely open emotional conversations. in fact, when MDMA was first synthesized it's primary use was in psychotherapy! research was shut down during the war on drugs, but in recent studies it's demonstrated amazing abilities to treat and even straight up CURE disorders like PTSD. for a personal anecdote, my partner actually completely fucking cured his alcoholism on a combo of MDMA and whippets (nitrous oxide) lmfao. like dude straight up went from getting black out drunk multiple nights a week to drinking nothing for the past year and a half without any other treatment program. LSD has been proven to have similar incredible results with treating and curing things like depression, anxiety, PTSD and addiction and is also a very fun and very safe one.
sorry to reiterate for the billionth time lol but it's important: these drugs are safe and fun if you make sure they're safe and fun! do your research and never use in an unfamiliar environment with people you wouldn't trust in an emergency! also I know this sounds like a lot, but remember I'm giving you like the absolute safest possible practices and emphasizing sort of over cautiousness because I think it's always better to be too safe. I've taken molly without nac and I've taken kinda big doses a little closer together than I should have without any problems. there's a bit of flexibility to these guidelines, but it's always better to think of them as being rigid so you don't end up too far in the other direction. like I've said it's really really hard to do actual damage that would last more than like a day or 2 max. most of the time you'll just be sleepy the next day from all the dancing so it's nice to do it on a day 1 of a weekend. also it only lasts like a couple of hours lol so it's not your whole day or anything!

DMT - THE GOD MOLECULE
Tumblr media
Everything You Need to Know About The Hallucinogenic Drug, DMT
N, N-dimethyltryptamine (DMT) is a hallucinogenic tryptamine drug that naturally occurs in many plant species. It can also be made in a laboratory.
DMT produces effects similar to those of psychedelics, like LSD and magic mushrooms. Some people refer to the drug by other names including Dimitri and fantasia.
DMT is a Schedule I controlled substance in the United States, which means it’s illegal to make, buy, possess, or distribute it. Some cities have recently decriminalized it, but it’s still illegal under state and federal law.
Tumblr media
Sometimes people use other names to refer to DMT. These street names include:
Dimitri
fantasia
businessman’s trip
businessman’s special
45-minute psychosis
spiritual molecule
DMT is the main active ingredient in ayahuasca.
Practitioners traditionally prepare ayahuasca using two plants called Banisteriopsis caapi and Psychotria viridis. The latter contains DMT while the former contains MAOIs, which prevent certain enzymes in your body from breaking down DMT. Many South American cultures use ayahuasca in religious and spiritual ceremonies and have done so for centuriesTrusted Source.
As with most drugs, DMT can affect people in very different waysTrusted Source. Some truly enjoy the experience. Others find it overwhelming or frightening. Some refer to this negative experience as a bad trip.
Regarding its psychoactive effects, people have described feeling like they’re traveling at speed through a tunnel of bright lights and shapes. Others describe having an out-of-body experience and feeling like they’ve changed into something else.
Other potential treatment applications
Despite its recreational use, there is interest in the potential therapeutic opportunities of DMT due to its effects on serotonin. Observational studies suggestTrusted Source it could have potential usage in depression, stress, and anxiety
Synthetic DMT usually comes in the form of a white, crystalline powder. Sometimes the drug can have a yellowish or pinkish color.
People can smoke, vaporize, or snort DMT. They can also inject the drug, but this method has additional risks.
When used in religious ceremonies, plants and vines are boiled to create a tea-like drink of varying strengths.
The onset of DMT when inhaling or injecting the drug is rapid. People may experience the drug’s effects within minutes of use.Trusted Source
The intensity and duration of a DMT trip depend on several things, including:
how much you use
how you use it
whether you’ve eaten
whether you’ve taken other drugs
Generally, the effects of inhaled, snorted, or injected DMT last for about 15 to 60 minutesTrusted Source. It typically takes longer to feel the effects of DMT is drinking it in a brew.
DMT carries potentially serious risks. The drug’s physical side effects of raising heart rate and blood can be problematic, especially if you have a heart condition or already have high blood pressure.
Using DMT may also cause:
seizures
loss of muscle coordination, which increases the risk of falls and injury
confusion
It also has associations with respiratory arrest (when someone stops breathing) and coma.
Long-term effects
Like other hallucinogenic drugs, DMT may cause persistent psychosis and hallucinogen-persisting perception disorder (HPPD). HPPD is more commonly known as “flashbacks.” Both are rare and may be more likely to occur in people with preexisting mental health conditions.
According to the National Institute on Drug Abuse, it is unclear whether DMT is an addictive substance.
Small studies suggest that it is unlikely to lead to a substance use disorder, but people may develop a tolerance, leading to increased consumption in the future.
DMT is extremely powerful, even though it naturally occurs in several plant species. If you’re going to try it, there are a few steps you can take to reduce your risk for having a bad reaction.
Keep these tips in mind when using DMT:
Strength in numbers: Don’t use DMT alone. Do it in the company of people you trust.
Consider your surroundings: Be sure to use it in a safe and comfortable place.
Take a seat: Sit or lie down to reduce the risk of falling or injury.
Keep it simple: Don’t combine DMT with alcohol or other drugs.
Pick the right time: The effects of DMT can be pretty intense. As a result, it’s best to use it when you’re already in a positive state of mind.
Know when to skip it: Avoid using DMT if you:
are taking antidepressants or another medication associated with serotonin syndrome
are taking a medication that interacts with DMT
have a heart condition
have high blood pressure
Learn more about the safety and DMT consumption here.
DMT is a naturally occurring chemical that’s been used for centuries in religious ceremonies in several South American cultures. Today, its synthetic form is used for its powerful hallucinogenic effects.
If curious about trying DMT, it’s important to take certain steps to reduce your risk for serious effects. This includes making sure any prescription or over-the-counter medications you take won’t cause a bad reaction.

I’m watching Safiya Nygaard’s new videos where she and her husband go to every hotel on the Las Vegas strip and guys. I thought I knew, in general, what Vegas was about from movies and tv and such. I never really Got It as a travel destination but as a concept? Sure. Casinos, shows, nightclubs, bachelor/ette parties, so on and so forth.
EXCEPT CLEARLY NOT. I did NOT know what Las Vegas is about because what the actual fuck, Nevada. These hotels are too goddamn big, as a former receptionist it gave me (more) anxiety. Not only do several of them have entire in-hotel malls, of them has an entire INDOOR AQUARIUM. In the HOTEL. I expected the casinos-inside-the-hotel but at most of them you’re still allowed to smoke?? Indoors??? Right on top the carpet that apparently is everywhere??? Don’t even get me started on that one hotel rollercoaster.
I could go on and on but you get it, I’ve never felt such a ‘European from a small country’ culture shock. Honestly, I think a lot of my friends would have the same reaction. It’s like the story of the country mouse going to visit his cousin in the city except cranked up to 1000 and also on lsd. I thought I knew about the ‘oh Europeans don’t get how big the US really is’ but I was clearly not prepared for the insane magnitude of everything. I am the tiny country mouse, I really am, guys.
To me it seems almost exactly like those weird dreams I have occasionally where I’m stuck in an endless and extremely unsettling mall/airport/train station/museum with no windows. I just don’t think my tiny mind can comprehend it to be frank.
Tldr I didn’t get it before and I get it even less now, with an additional soupçon of anxiety mixed into it.

Mental health and music
The relationship between mental health and music is a profound and multifaceted one, reflecting the powerful ways in which artistic expression and psychological well-being influence each other. Music has long been both a solace and a form of expression for those grappling with mental health issues, providing a therapeutic outlet for emotions and a medium for connecting with others. This dynamic is vividly illustrated in the lives and works of many musicians throughout history, such as Kurt Cobain, Chris Cornell, Layne Staley, Kanye West, Kendrick Lamar, Sinéad O'Connor, Billie Eilish, Amy Winehouse, Brian Wilson, Syd Barrett, Daniel Johnston, Chester Bennington, Demi Lovato, Ian Curtis, and Michael Jackson.
For many musicians, creating and performing music serves as a vital coping mechanism for dealing with mental health issues. The act of writing lyrics, composing melodies, and performing can provide a form of emotional release and self-reflection. This process allows artists to articulate feelings that might otherwise remain unexpressed, serving as a form of self-therapy. For instance, the grunge movement in the early and mid 90’s is probably the best example. Kurt Cobain’s raw and confessional lyrics in Nirvana’s songs resonated deeply with listeners who shared his struggles with depression and bipolar disorder (then called manic depression). The frustration, anger and the self depricating sentiments and misery exposed throughout Nirvana’s work (deeply developed in In Utero) resonated deeply with a generation that didn’t identify with the braggadocious nature of Glam and Hard Rock. Similarly, Chris Cornell’s powerful vocals and poignant lyrics often addressed themes of despair and inner conflict, offering listeners a sense of solidarity and understanding. Layne Staley’s work with Alice in Chains develops in a similar way, touching on his own struggles with depression and addiction, in addition to the struggles of other people (see the song Rooster and how it touches on war related PTSD). A more modern example can be found in Kendrick Lamar’s music, that has touched in his music deeply personal issues regarding depression, suicidal thoughts (see the song u), impostor and savior syndrome (Savior) and generational trauma (Mother I Sober).
In a different note, mental health disorders can profoundly shape an artist's creativity, influencing the themes, tone, and intensity of their music. While mental illness can be debilitating, it can also drive an artist to explore complex emotional landscapes, resulting in moving and innovative works. Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys, despite battling schizoaffective disorder, produced some of the most groundbreaking and acclaimed music of the 20th century. His ability to channel his struggles with mental illness into intricate harmonies and melodies exemplifies how mental health struggles can fuel artistic genius. Similarly, despite his short carreer, Syd Barrett’s contributions to Pink Floyd’s early material, known for it psychedelic and experimental nature, were shaped by his deteriorating mental health associated with LSD consumption, leaving a lasting legacy in the music world. In this line, the works of Ian Curtis in Joy Division and Daniel Johnston come into the discussion, being their work deeply influenced by epilepsy in Curtis’s case, depression and anxiety. In a similar vein, as he became one of the biggest artists of the world in the 2010’s decade, Kanye West’s music often delved into his struggles with addiction, depression and mostly bipolar disorder, just like he exhibits on many of his albums like My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, The Life of Pablo, Ye, Kids See Ghosts and Donda.
Kanye’s case helps to also delve into the topic of the role of public perception and the stigma surrounding mental illness. The public’s perception of musicians with mental health issues can be a double-edged sword. On one hand, artists who openly discuss their struggles can help destigmatize mental illness and encourage others to seek help. West’s candid discussions about his bipolar disorder, for instance, have sparked important conversations about mental health in the public sphere. On the other hand, the pressure of public scrutiny can exacerbate mental health issues, contributing to a vicious cycle of stress and emotional distress. The intense media scrutiny faced by Michael Jackson in the span of decades, coupled with his complex mental health issues associated with childhood trauma, underscores the detrimental impact that fame can have on an individual’s well-being.
There’s also many musicians that, understanding their influence, use their platforms to advocate for mental health awareness, leveraging their influence to promote understanding and support for those affected by mental illness. Demi Lovato has been particularly vocal about her struggles with bipolar disorder and addiction, using her music and public appearances to raise awareness and reduce stigma. By sharing their personal experiences, these artists humanize mental health issues, making them more relatable and less taboo. Billie Eilish’s openness about her battles with depression, anxiety and tourette’s syndrome, reflected in her introspective lyrics, has resonated with a younger generation, encouraging a more open dialogue about mental health.
There’s also the not often associated with mental illness topic of addiction and substance abuse and how it conditions the artist’s music. Artists like Amy Winehouse, Layne Staley, Kurt Cobain and John Lennon have made music talking about and influenced by their addiction to several drugs, be it heroin, cocaine or alcohol.
Music itself can have therapeutic effects on listeners, providing comfort, solace, and a sense of connection. For fans, knowing that their favorite musicians have experienced similar struggles can be incredibly validating and empowering. Songs that address mental health themes can serve as anthems of resilience, helping listeners feel less alone in their battles. Chester Bennington’s music with Linkin Park, for example, tackled themes of trauma, depression, and hope (One More Light), offering a lifeline to many fans facing similar issues. The cathartic power of music can thus play a crucial role in mental health, both for the creators and the consumers.
In the end, the relationship between mental health and music is a complex and deeply impactful one, with multiple layers to dissect. Music serves as a therapeutic outlet, a medium for advocacy, and a source of connection and solace for both artists and listeners. Understanding the particularities of each case as each person’s trouble and mental condition is very complex and different from each other, the aforementioned experiences of musicians like Kurt Cobain, Chris Cornell, Layne Staley, Kanye West, Sinéad O'Connor, Billie Eilish, Amy Winehouse, Brian Wilson, Syd Barrett, Daniel Johnston, Chester Bennington, Demi Lovato, Ian Curtis, and Michael Jackson highlight the profound influence of mental health on creativity and the potential of music to heal and inspire their listeners and fans. Their stories remind us of the importance of compassion, support, and understanding for those facing mental health challenges, and the enduring power of music as a vessel of expression, liberation, venting and freedom.

what are your favorite video games?
i used to like playing harvest moon, style savvy, pokemon, sonic, sims, tycoons, kairosoft, yume nikki, lsd dream emulator, animal crossing, etc. those kind of things when i was younger. however, in the way people enjoy playing games as a hobby / past time, for me that equivalent would be drawing. i kind of always have to be visually developing or organizing something in my head, which isn't very conducive to activities needing focus / strategy / timing, right..." so, i prefer the flow where its more of a free range exploratory sandbox, 'make of this what you will' platform.
the one game i do still play with some regularity, and have since it came out is sims 2 😂 but must treat it like a Fine Delicacy i need to earn the free time to play LOL, as it is such a time sink ! i think that is why i don't play games in general these days, the enjoyment is often cancelled out by the anxiety of 'i should be doing _ instead'. that one though is my favourite because i like creating aesthetic spaces and finding ways to evoke something narratively thru their design. also, seeing how the spontaneity of the game mechanics evolves and shapes that environment over time is fun : )

1p-lsd Effects
Depending on how much and how recently one has eaten, LSD generally takes 20 – 60 minutes (though sometimes as long as 2 hrs) to take effect. The primary effects of LSD last for 6-8 hours.. For many people there is an additional period of time (2-6 hrs) where it is difficult to go to sleep and there is definitely a noticeable difference from everyday reality, but which is not strong enough to be considered ‘tripping’. In the beginning stages of onset, LSD is likely to cause a sort of undefinable feeling similar to anticipation or anxiety. There is often a slight feeling of energy in the body, an extra twinkle to lights, or the feeling that things are somehow different than usual. As the effects become stronger, a wide variety of perceptual changes may occur; non-specific mental and physical stimulation, pupil dilation, closed and open eye patterning and visuals, changed thought patterns, feelings of insight, confusion, or paranoia, and quickly changing emotions (happiness, fear, giddiness, anxiety, anger, joy, irritation). An LSD trip may vary greatly from person to person, from one trip to another, and even as time passes during a single trip. Widely different effects emerge based on set and setting: the ‘set’ being the general mindset of the user, and the ‘setting’ being the physical and social environment in which the drug’s effects are experienced.
Our 1P-LSD blotters are not approved for human consumption. They are strictly for laboratory use only.

Little Book Review: Nonfiction Round-Up (May-December 2022)
Waking the Tiger by Peter A. Levine (1997): a self-help book with a somatic approach to dealing with trauma symptoms. It contained some advice that was useful at my old job. Unfortunately, I was too traumatized from said job to concentrate properly on the audiobook, so I was kind of in a Catch-22.
The Nineties by Chuck Klosterman (2022): A deliciously disconcerting series of essays about the fractured last decade of the twentieth century. It wins the coveted "book I'm most determined to lend to my mom" award.
Yes, I'm Hot in This by Huda Fahmy (2018): a cute collection of comics from Fahmy's Instagram, covering subjects from strangers being stupid about her hijab (hence the title) to lighthearted scenes of domestic life. I found it in a Little Library.
Unmask Alice by Rick Emerson (2022): an exploration of the life and writing career of Beatrice Sparks, author of multiple "real" diaries by troubled teens, through-and-through grifter, and coiner of the immortal phrase "freak wharf." This fucked, y'all. Emerson seamlessly delves into multiple topics of interest--Sparks's hardscrabble youth, the discovery of LSD, the Satanic Panic--with plenty of compassion and humor.
The Good Nurse by Charles Graeber (2013): the true-crime account of Charles Cullen, a Pennsylvania/New Jersey nurse who murdered possibly hundreds of patients by poisoning their IV bags in the late 1980s to early 2000s. The subject matter is shocking, and it's horrifying how the indifference of the large medical systems he worked for kept him from facing consequences other than getting fired for years. The style/organization of the book is kind of pedestrian, though.
Catch and Kill by Ronan Farrow (2019): an account of Farrow's efforts to write a story for NBC about the decades-long sexual predation of producer Harvey Weinstein, including NBC's sideways attempts to get him to back off. Farrow's a solid narrative writer, not great, and the book gets less interesting when he strays beyond the inner workings of NBC.
Slouching Towards Bethlehem by Joan Didion (1968): In her first collection of essays, Didion talks about murder, movies, mental distress, and Sacramento. It's incredibly fresh in some ways (the essay where she talks about raising her daughter away from her extended family) and incredibly dated in others (her incredulity at people who ascribe artistic vision to Meet Me in St. Louis). I genuinely appreciate her ability to make me go "girl, what are you even talking about."
Solutions and Other Problems by Allie Brosh (2020): an illustrated memoir/series of comics, focusing on coping with mental illness and the unexpected loss of a loved one. There are some very funny passages (particularly one involving a troublesome dog), some devastating ones (Brosh's montage of memories of her late younger sister), and some aimless ones.
Monkey Mind by Daniel Smith (2012): part memoir and part general information about anxiety (the science of it, how different people have written about it through history, etc.). It's more interesting as a memoir. I remember that it had some good advice at the end for managing anxiety, but I don't know for the life of me what it was. Still, I feel like I should give him credit for it.

This is hitting my 'tism so ok ok let's unpack a bit of this.
First off, that's a delusion (a spontaneous fixed false belief), not a hallucination (false sensorial impression) .
She is right in that fluoxetine (Prozac active principle) itself does not cause withdrawal pseudopsychotic symptoms, also even if it did it'd be unlikely she'd get them due to the fact that fluoxetine has the longest half-life of the common SSRIs (IIRC five days in acute blood concentration, eight in chronic), so even if she missed a dose it's unlikely that the blood concentration of it would drop enough to cause a SSRI discontinuation syndrome.
The thing is that antidepressants in themselves exert their therapeutic action by two primary pathways: activation of the 5HT1-type receptors and desensitisation of the 5HT2-type receptors. The 1-type receptors are the ones associated with the "I need serotonin" expression, in that their regular activation is associated with the genetic pathways that repair structural damage caused by prolonged untreated maladaptive cognition and chronic stress etc from depressive and anxious mental illness. The thing is that the other side of antidepressant treatment is the downregulation of 5HT2-type receptors by prolonged exposure to endogenous serotonin that is increased by the SSRI, sorta like how illicit drugs make dopamine receptors wither up, because the 2-type specifically (5HT2A, 5HT2C etc) are implicated in anxious and depressive cognition and behaviours when they are activated, so prolonged exposure to SSRIs make these anxiety-inducing receptors shrivel up as part of the therapeutic action of antidepressants. But obviously, that has to happen by continuous excitation of the receptor, which is why everyone feels even more depressed and anxious for the few weeks when they start antidepressant treatment.
Here's the thing: one of the theories for understanding the mechanism of psychosis is the simultaneous overactivation of D2 dopamine receptors and 5HT2A serotonin receptors, the context for which being that hallucinogenic drugs (LSD, shrooms, weed etc) exert their action by directly activating the 5HT2A receptor (weed does it by indirect upregulation by the CB receptor) and that newer second and third-generation antipsychotics (risperidone, aripiprazole, clozapine etc) also block the 5HT2A receptor (which is also why lower doses of then are used to treat anxiety disorders). For that reason, people suspicious of having *latent* schizophrenia or any other kind of psychotic disorder are counter-indicated from taking those drugs and also from treatment with serotoninergic drugs, because they can trigger the latent potential disorder.
In conclusion, that probably means that that girl had a latent psychotic disorder which was triggered by the antidepressant. That's assuming she actually took an antidepressant and not some sort of illicit drug by mistake from... Facebook marketplace, what can you expect.

Genuine question re: your last post about wearing a blondie t-shirt and coke in your nose. How can you do cocaine and not be addicted? I thought it was super addictive? Also doesn't weed and coke cancel each other out? You don't have to answer if you don't want to!
hey bud! no worries I am always happy to answer questions! so the short answer to both of these is pretty much no. but I'm also gonna give you the long answers if ur interested!
coke of course CAN be addictive, I personally am friends with a couple people who were addicted to coke at one point, but it's actually far less addictive than many other drugs prescription or not and it's of course dependant on the person. for instance, many people may find prescription anxiety medications like Xanax to be more addictive, and addiction to drugs in that class (benzodiazapine) are actually really dangerous, but many people are able to use these safely as well. it's also a pretty safe drug to take, provided it's pure, you are taking proper doses and you're not doing it all the time. I personally have only had it a few times because I barely feel anything with it due to chronic fatigue and stuff lol. and I know lots of other people who've tried it at clubs or parties and never really thought about it again!
basically, if like it's something you're interested in trying, be cautious as with any drug prescription or not. make sure it's from a reputable source, test it (for impurities) if you're not 100% sure it's been tested by someone you trust, research the proper doses and interactions with any other drugs (again prescription or not) that you are taking, and do it with a person you trust in a familiar environment. if you're prone to addictions then it might be something you want to skip, but again it's actually not quite as addictive as a lot of other drugs so if you're being safe with it it's a lot easier to step back from (this is based on experience my friends have had, I personally have never experienced any type of craving or addictive feeling with cocaine!)
second question: I have actually never heard this before lol! I'm guessing this is based on the fact that cocaine, like other amphetamines, is an "upper" while weed is a "downer". there aren't very many drugs that straight up negate each other (altho there are some! SSRIs like Zoloft will make MDMA and LSD pretty much entirely ineffective!) like that, it's more just that they change each other. so first of all the coke residue is actually from last night lol so it's not still affecting me, but when I did take it, it made me feel more awake and alert like caffeine would. while weed has a relaxing and sometimes sedating effect, the coke balanced that part out, and amplified the more stereotypical effects like laughing and talking (weed makes me talk A LOT lol) because of the added energy. generally mixing drugs with opposite effects will work like this. mixing weed and alcohol for instance is a really popular combination (often referred to as a "crossfade") because of how the weed will counteract the nausea and often like jitteriness and stuff associated with alcohol
I know this was a long as hell answer but I hope this helped to clear up your questions! feel free to ask me any other drug related questions, I'm always happy to research anything I don't already know :)
edit: was doing some research bc this question interested me and came across this like. suppressed 1995 study from the WHO kdbdksndn???????? do with this article what you will I suppose

Common Questions About Psychedelic Light Therapy Answered
Psychedelic light therapy is an innovative approach to mental health and wellness that is garnering attention for its potential benefits. Utilizing light and sound to induce altered states of consciousness, this therapy offers a unique way to address various psychological issues, from anxiety and depression to trauma recovery. As this therapy gains popularity, many questions arise regarding its mechanisms, benefits, safety, and application. This article aims to answer some of the most common questions about psychedelic light therapy.
1. What is Psychedelic Light Therapy?
Pyschedelic light therapy Mississippi is a non-invasive treatment that employs specific light patterns and frequencies to alter the brain's state of consciousness. Unlike traditional psychedelics that involve the ingestion of substances like LSD or psilocybin, this therapy uses specially designed light devices to create visual stimuli that influence brainwave activity.
The therapy aims to induce deep states of relaxation and altered awareness, facilitating emotional healing and insight. By synchronizing brainwave patterns through light and sound, participants can access subconscious thoughts and feelings, often leading to transformative experiences.
2. How Does It Work?
The underlying mechanism of pyschedelic light therapy Mississippi is rooted in the principles of brainwave entrainment. This process involves using rhythmic stimuli, such as light flickering at specific frequencies, to synchronize brainwave patterns. The following brainwave patterns are commonly engaged during therapy:
Alpha Waves (8-12 Hz): Associated with relaxation and creativity.
Theta Waves (4-8 Hz): Linked to deep meditation and emotional processing.
Gamma Waves (30-100 Hz): Associated with heightened awareness and cognitive functioning.
When exposed to these light patterns, the brain can enter altered states similar to those induced by traditional psychedelics, allowing individuals to explore their thoughts and emotions in a new light. Participants may experience vivid visualizations, emotional release, and a sense of connectedness.
3. What Are the Benefits of Psychedelic Light Therapy?
Psychedelic light therapy offers a range of potential benefits, including:
Reduction of Anxiety and Depression: Many users report significant decreases in anxiety and depressive symptoms after sessions. The therapy provides a non-invasive means of accessing and processing difficult emotions.
Trauma Healing: The therapy can facilitate healing from trauma by allowing individuals to confront painful memories in a safe and controlled environment.
Enhanced Creativity: Participants often experience heightened creativity and problem-solving abilities, making it beneficial for artists and professionals seeking innovative solutions.
Stress Reduction: The therapy induces relaxation, helping individuals manage stress and improve overall well-being.
Improved Mindfulness: By promoting altered states of consciousness, psychedelic light therapy can enhance mindfulness and encourage a greater sense of presence in daily life.
4. Is Psychedelic Light Therapy Safe?
Psychedelic light therapy is generally considered safe, especially compared to traditional psychedelics. Since it does not involve the ingestion of any substances, the risk of adverse reactions or overdose is minimal. However, some individuals may experience mild discomfort or temporary disorientation during sessions.
Before participating in psychedelic light therapy, it's essential to consult with a qualified practitioner who can assess your mental health history and ensure that the therapy is appropriate for you. Individuals with certain conditions, such as severe epilepsy or light sensitivity disorders, should exercise caution and consult a healthcare professional before engaging in this therapy.
5. Who Can Benefit from Psychedelic Light Therapy?
Psychedelic light therapy may benefit a wide range of individuals, including:
Those Struggling with Mental Health Issues: Individuals experiencing anxiety, depression, PTSD, or other emotional difficulties may find relief through this therapy.
Creative Professionals: Artists, writers, and musicians seeking inspiration or creative breakthroughs may benefit from the enhanced cognitive flexibility associated with altered states.
Individuals Seeking Personal Growth: People interested in self-exploration and personal development can use this therapy to gain insights into their thoughts and emotions.
While many individuals may benefit, it’s crucial to approach this therapy with an open mind and a willingness to engage with one's emotional landscape.
6. What to Expect During a Session?
A typical psychedelic light therapy session lasts between 30 to 60 minutes. Participants usually sit or lie comfortably in a quiet, relaxed environment while a trained facilitator operates the light device.
Here’s what to expect during a session:
Initial Setup: After discussing intentions and any concerns, the facilitator will prepare the light device and ensure the environment is comfortable.
Session Commencement: Once the session begins, participants close their eyes and focus on the light patterns and accompanying sounds.
Experiencing Altered States: As the session progresses, participants may experience visualizations, emotions, or deep relaxation. This state can vary from person to person, with some experiencing profound insights and others enjoying a simple feeling of calm.
Post-Session Integration: After the session, participants are often encouraged to reflect on their experiences, either through journaling or discussing insights with the facilitator.
7. Can Psychedelic Light Therapy Be Used with Other Treatments?
Yes, psychedelic light therapy can be effectively integrated with other therapeutic modalities. Many practitioners combine it with traditional talk therapy, mindfulness practices, or sound therapy to enhance overall treatment outcomes.
For individuals already engaged in therapy, light therapy can provide additional insights and emotional processing, often complementing the work done in traditional counseling settings. It’s essential to communicate with both your therapist and the facilitator of the light therapy to create a comprehensive treatment plan.
8. Where Can You Find Psychedelic Light Therapy?
As interest in psychedelic light therapy grows, more wellness centers, holistic practices, and mental health facilities are beginning to offer it.
While availability may vary by region, you can typically find psychedelic light therapy services in:
Holistic Wellness Centers: Many centers focused on alternative therapies are beginning to include light therapy in their offerings.
Mental Health Clinics: Some mental health practitioners are exploring psychedelic light therapy as a complementary treatment for their patients.
Retreats and Workshops: Special retreats focused on mental wellness may provide psychedelic light therapy sessions in conjunction with other healing practices.
To find a qualified practitioner, research local wellness centers and read reviews or testimonials from previous clients. Ensure the practitioners have the necessary training and experience to guide you safely through the therapy.
9. What Research Exists on Psychedelic Light Therapy?
While psychedelic light therapy is a relatively new field, early research and anecdotal evidence suggest promising outcomes for individuals seeking alternative mental health treatments. Studies exploring brainwave entrainment and its effects on mental health indicate potential benefits in areas like stress reduction, creativity enhancement, and emotional processing.
As the field of psychedelic therapy continues to evolve, researchers are beginning to investigate the specific effects of light therapy in controlled studies. This ongoing research will help validate the therapeutic benefits of light therapy and further establish its role in mental health treatment.
10. How Can You Prepare for a Psychedelic Light Therapy Session?
Preparing for a psychedelic light therapy session can enhance your experience and increase the likelihood of positive outcomes. Here are some tips for preparation:
Set Clear Intentions: Reflect on what you hope to gain from the session. Setting clear intentions can guide your experience and help you process insights afterward.
Create a Comfortable Environment: Ensure you are in a safe and comfortable space during the session. Consider factors like lighting, noise, and temperature to make the experience as enjoyable as possible.
Be Open-Minded: Approach the session with an open mind and a willingness to explore your thoughts and emotions. Embrace whatever experiences arise, knowing that they can contribute to your personal growth.
Conclusion
Psychedelic light therapy presents an exciting opportunity for those seeking alternative mental health treatments. By utilizing light and sound to access altered states of consciousness, this therapy has the potential to address a range of psychological issues, foster emotional healing, and enhance creativity.
As interest in this innovative approach grows, it is crucial for individuals to research and understand its benefits, mechanisms, and safety considerations. With the right preparation and guidance, psychedelic light therapy can serve as a powerful tool for personal transformation and healing.

It started subtly, as many things do. I mean, how often do you see something completely insane and immediately think "yeah this is normal"? People wrote it off as having drunk too much the night before, the effects of LSD, shrooms, or sleep deprivation. Parents and teachers wrote it off as childrens' overactive imaginations. As it set in, and didn't go away, people went to psychologists and therapists. When that didn't work, they went to doctors and surgeons, hoping they had a strange tumor or something causing them to see things. When that failed, they went toward the supernatural.
In a matter of months it became clear to the masses that everyone was seeing a face when they closed their eyes. It took time to kick in, blinks were generally safe, but periods before or after sleep, with eyes closed, meant they'd see it. Some people thought it was that of a man, others a woman, but in truth independent descriptions and artist renditions based on those descriptions seemed to show someone of indiscernible gender, someone who might not even be human.
Some churches declared this to be the face of god, others labelled this an omen, though good or bad, it was difficult to tell.
The psychological effects were devastating to many, causing paranoia and anxiety to rise, people feeling like they were always being watched. Suicide rates rose, some unfortunate souls deciding they couldn't take this anymore. Calls were put out to medical researchers to find out why this was suddenly happening. Months went by, and turned into years. Everyone in the world saw this face, that of an unsettling, ungendered being, who had no explanation.
Everyone... Except me.
(Took a bit of liberty with this one. Doesn't fully match the prompt, but I found this interesting)
All over the world, whenever people close their eyes, for no matter how long they are closed, they are no longer greeted by the familiar comfort of expected darkness. They all just see the same unnerving face staring at them. Unblinking and smiling. Uncomfortably close.

Navigating the Labyrinth: Understanding the Complexities of Mental Illness
Tumblr media
Introduction
Mental illness is a complex and multifaceted issue that affects millions of people worldwide. Despite the increasing awareness and understanding, it remains a topic shrouded in stigma and misconceptions. This blog post aims to delve into the intricacies of mental illness, exploring its manifestations, impacts, and the path toward healing and support.
The Experience of Disorientation
One of the hallmark symptoms of many mental illnesses is a profound sense of disorientation. This can manifest as feeling out of touch with reality or experiencing intense confusion. Individuals might describe this state as having their "head on backwards," indicating a fundamental disconnection from their usual cognitive processes. This disorientation can be incredibly disconcerting, leading to a sense of losing control over one's thoughts and actions.
The experience of disorientation can affect every aspect of a person's life. Simple tasks can become monumental challenges, and the ability to make decisions or process information may be severely impaired. This can lead to frustration, anxiety, and a deep sense of helplessness.
Physical Discomfort and Mental Health
Mental illness is not just a condition of the mind; it often manifests physically as well. People suffering from conditions such as depression, anxiety, or bipolar disorder frequently report physical symptoms like back pain, headaches, or general malaise. These physical symptoms can exacerbate the mental struggles, creating a vicious cycle where physical discomfort intensifies the psychological distress, and vice versa.
The interplay between physical and mental health is a crucial area of study and understanding. Addressing physical symptoms through proper medical care and lifestyle adjustments can significantly impact mental well-being, providing a more comprehensive approach to treatment.
The Chaos of Intrusive Thoughts
A particularly challenging aspect of many mental illnesses is the presence of intrusive thoughts. These are unwanted, often distressing thoughts that can seem to come from nowhere and disrupt daily life. Described metaphorically as "falling face forward, flipping all around," these thoughts can make an individual feel as if they are constantly off balance, unable to find solid ground.
Intrusive thoughts can be especially troubling because they are often accompanied by intense emotional reactions. They can provoke fear, guilt, shame, or sadness, making it difficult for the individual to separate these thoughts from their sense of self. Cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) and other therapeutic techniques can be effective in helping individuals manage and mitigate the impact of intrusive thoughts.
The Influence of Mind-Altering Substances
The relationship between mental illness and substance use is well-documented. Many individuals with mental health conditions turn to substances like alcohol, drugs, or even prescription medications in an attempt to cope with their symptoms. This can lead to a dangerous cycle of dependency and further exacerbate the mental health issues.
Substances like LSD, for example, can profoundly alter one's perception of reality, sometimes mimicking or intensifying symptoms of mental illness. While some individuals may seek these experiences for a temporary escape, the long-term effects can be detrimental. It's essential to approach substance use with caution and seek professional guidance when necessary.
The Journey to Understanding and Healing
Understanding mental illness requires a multifaceted approach that considers both the psychological and physiological aspects of the condition. It's important to recognize that mental illness is not a sign of weakness or a character flaw, but a medical condition that requires proper treatment and support.
Therapy, medication, lifestyle changes, and a strong support network can all play a vital role in managing mental illness. Cognitive-behavioral therapy, in particular, has been shown to be highly effective in helping individuals reframe their thoughts and develop healthier coping mechanisms. Medication can help balance brain chemistry and alleviate some of the more severe symptoms, while lifestyle changes such as regular exercise, a healthy diet, and adequate sleep can support overall well-being.
The Importance of Support and Compassion
One of the most critical aspects of managing mental illness is having a strong support system. Friends, family, and mental health professionals can provide invaluable support, offering understanding, empathy, and practical assistance. It's important for those supporting individuals with mental illness to educate themselves about the condition and approach their loved ones with compassion and patience.
Stigma remains a significant barrier to seeking help for many individuals with mental illness. Reducing this stigma through education, open conversations, and advocacy is crucial. By creating a more accepting and supportive environment, we can encourage more people to seek the help they need and deserve.
Conclusion
Mental illness is a complex and often misunderstood condition that affects many aspects of a person's life. From the disorientation and physical discomfort to the chaos of intrusive thoughts and the influence of substances, the journey through mental illness can be challenging. However, with the right understanding, support, and treatment, individuals can navigate these difficulties and find a path to healing and well-being. By fostering compassion and reducing stigma, we can create a society where mental health is prioritized and everyone has the opportunity to thrive.
