HAHA I absolutely understand the sentiment. I feel a bit contradictory since I want more people to appreciate SVSSS, but the at the same time I like small tight knit communities and I personally can’t handle large fandoms whatsoever. 😭

Although I do feel as though describing the SVSSS as pure is very funny for how lawless this fandom is. But behavior wise, it is definitely a very positive and supportive space!! I haven’t met anyone or seen anything unpleasant since I’ve entered the fandom. Albeit, it’s only been a few months since I’ve started interacting with the fandom, and over half a year since I first read SVSSS, so I have no clue what horror stories the SVSSS fandom has. (I honestly haven’t interacted with that many SVSSS fans tbh…. Even though I want to.)

In addition, funny enough, I feel as though the book almost acts as its own barrier of entry. SVSSS isn’t the type of book you can read once unless you’re good at reading against the grain and noticing all the nuances and subtext. I know the first time I read SVSSS, SVSSS disturbed and confused me so badly. I talked to a few other people who read SVSSS once, who said that LBH and SQQ’s relationship felt like Stockholm syndrome. But people who’ve read SVSSS several times will know, that is not the case, and that SQQ is an INSANELY UNRELIABLE narrator.

I honestly find it funny how effective Binghorse or all the other skin creatures is at filtering toxic fans.😂

There’s always a general reaction to the skin creatures: “Omg, cute!!”, “wtf, but I like it”, “wtf”. Or getting blocked, or death threats. (I haven’t received any…? I don’t think…? One message I received is definitely debatable since I can’t tell if it’s sarcastic or not….😭)

But regardless, I’ll definitely keep drawing Binghorse!!! It’s actually really enjoyable!

i don't know if this is an unpopular opinion or anything, but does anyone agree with me on this: i like enj and grantaire to be horribly awkward around each other more often than they're arguing and getting into fights. maybe it's cus i've read so many enjoltaire fics at this point but like, to no fault of the authors, if it starts out with arguing that feels like something i've seen before (not because they're being copycats or whatever, just because it's understandably a very common enjoltaire trope, and just because i've read so many enjoltaire fics), i'll usually click out just cus, again, i've read so many enjoltaire fics. gotta just use my own version of them for examples lol, hmm what are good examples for this hmm. so basically i don't mean awkward as in awkwardness from liking someone and trying to hide it, even though there's that too and that's great, but more like awkwardness cus they clash and get under each other's skin and they can't ignore each other. the kind of awkwardness where you misunderstand someone and they misunderstand you so it's just awkward and annoying, i guess. and obviously this is only one part of their dynamic of course. basically, it's the causes of how you'd see them arguing all the time, but just to me it feels more natural that more often the effect of that would be them just bringing out the weirdest things about each other, if that makes sense. also banter and bickering and stuff like that of course. basically, i just get bored of actual serious arguing all the time (or really just much at all, i dunno if they argue i want it to be about silly things lol), and plus it makes me like them less as characters lol and not think they're as cute together. oh man gotta think of examples cus i feel like this doesn't make very much sense. yknow what oh well who cares lol. but yeah let grantaire and enjolras just be really weird and awkward around each other, it's very funny

So I've been thinking. It's funny how enjoying meta is somewhat embedded with trust.

Like, if you're "friends" and have followed a person for a long time, you have more a sense of their values, and it's easier to read their difficult meta because you trust more that they're being charitable/nuanced.

If you don't know them, it's harder to trust that they're not funneling difficult topics into rationalization of liking/supporting gross shit.

(Some people will kill me for this) I watched Neon Genesis Eva back in 2021-ish and the more I think about the show the worse the show gets, I think its a very pretty show, Especially with the strain the animators were put under. But the character writing is pretty awful regarding all of the women in the show, and even disregarding misogyny as a element (Which it IS) The show builds so much momentum just to do nothing with it, This show has a lot of potential it throws away to focus on asuka or whoever shoving her ass in the camera. The themes of human connection are surface level at the best and misguided especially for a audience of 14 year olds at the worst.

Its such a mixed bag I enjoy talking about mostly cause I can find no one who agrees with me, half of the people I encounter just enjoy the cool art anyway and I can get behind that, I just find it impossible to ignore the many many issues with the writing.

yeah sorry, maybe another hot take, but fanfiction isn’t an exception to negative opinions and critique. hating on it irrationally -or to be purposely malicious- and completely disregarding someone’s creativity and effort is one thing, but expressing dislike for a fanfiction, or the characterization, or whatever it may be, that’s literally fine. are we forgetting how for literal YEARS, there were countless people publicly sharing their dislike for things like “after,” and “50 shades of grey,” and those not literally works of fanfiction? don’t go and harass the author, don’t clique up and bash on the author or their work, don’t make a huge deal of it, and don’t be a downright douche, but do share your opinions on it, and don’t listen to anybody that tries to tell you that you can’t. it’s literally not that deep. coming from someone who has written and published fanfiction several times over the timespan of YEARS, i am 100% aware of the potential of people disliking it, critiquing it, and even straight up bashing it. i’m not posting fanfiction to make my way to be new york’s best fuckin seller, i’m posting it because it’s fun, silly, and an expression of my creativity, and because i like the band/artist/people i’m writing about. i still love writing, i still love said band/artist/people. people are allowed to write whatever the hell they want, and people are allowed to have whatever opinion of it they want to. end of.

we learned that trying to go to college was pretty much a dead end for us when we realized that most lectures made us fall asleep and we only liked the lab and practical lessons. and we did very well on the lab lessons! we were the only ones in several lab classes to be able to make the best sample for the microscope and a lot of other stuff. our chemistry lab classes were a pain tho cause we were paired up with this nice girl and a girl that DID NOT like us and avoided letting us do stuff and berated us once cause we stood too close to a thing we were trying to see even tho we told her and the other girl even with the glasses we had at the time our eyesight is very poor and will need to stand very close to the sample we were studying to see it properly so it was better we took turn watching it. and then she blamed us for screwing stuff up even tho most of the time she didnt let us touch anything anyway. even when we made the forbidden coffee even tho she was the one doing the dry ingredient weighting and micromanaged us pouring the liquids and then left and she got mad when the experience ended up bad. girlie u made us do it by ur maths! we wanted to asked the lab teacher to come and correct it but u said no and oops ur math was wrong even tho us and the other girl did the mixing and set up 100% correct this is ur fault for sucking!
