“I don’t support people that don’t have room in their hearts for my son,” said Marc Savoie.
Savoie, who has been vice-president of the association for five years and interim president since June, informed the riding association on Sunday of his decision.
“I can’t support my son and support (Higgs) at the same time. It doesn’t align with one another,” said Savoie, who added he plans to remain a member of the party in general.
“So I’m at peace with my decision. My family comes first, and that’s what it is. That’s where I am.”

i wish that we as a community spoke more about the intersection of indigeneity and queerness and the experiences of those living at this crossing.
i wish that it wasn’t just yt queers using the “native americans believed in third genders” talking point to validate colonial perceptions of gender and sex.
i wish that we talked about how residential schools enforced the colonial gender binary on queer indigenous kids, effectively erasing their community roles.
i wish that marriage legalization wasn’t seen as a government implementing something new but permitting something they had criminalized through settler colonialist violence.
i wish that we addressed harm reduction more and the need for alcohol and drug free spaces for sober folks struggling to connect with community.
i wish that we didn’t look at hiv/aids as a historical event affecting white gay men in the 80s but a continuing crisis among indigenous people and those living in the global south.
i wish that we didn’t push the narrative that queer folks have to detach from their family and community to live an authentically queer life.
i wish that white queers didn't tack the 2S onto the end of the acronym just to never share space with indigenous folks who challenge their colonial ideologies.

For those feeling helpless and looking for something they can do, go add everything you can to the WayBackMachine.
The Internet Archive is such an immensely valuable resource, and as we hear about various sites changing policies and purging documents, there is no better time to start taking snapshots of the web we have today.
Check out Archive.org where they have instructions for what and how you can save. And go find the things you'd be devastated to lose. Then go find the things that bring you joy. Then go search some more - save your favourite recipe site. Save someone's tumblr. Save your favourite YouTube video. SAVE SOMETHING.
It feels small and silly some days but not only is this site so incredibly valuable for putting together history and saving what we have, but it will only become more important as the internet continues to roll forward. Times like these, it helps to do SOMETHING.

A new book, published earlier this fall, documents Newfoundland and Labrador's queer history, highlighting those who helped push the queer movement across the province, country and the world. Author Rhea Rollmann, who spent years compiling more than 150 interviews and pieces of archival material through her journalistic reporting, told CBC News she created A Queer History of Newfoundland to fill in that work and document a history that has largely been unwritten. "It's hard to describe just how powerful it was. I knew we had a powerful queer history, but I didn't know just how deep it was," Rollmann said Tuesday.

(To clarify, this is the 20th Anniversary of Same-Sex Marriage in Ontario and British Columbia, the 18th for all of Canada; but's pretty good still, eh?)

Queer love is magical. It teaches you that love can exist in so many forms outside the heteronormative narratives that are taught to us when we are young. If people only saw it for its power than hatred, we would be so much further advanced in understanding concepts of love.
The rise of Anti-Trans rhetoric and Anti-Queer rhetoric is another rejection of love that is not bound to heteronormative values. The truth is that when my Queer / Trans BIPOC friends are constantly being harmed, shamed, and threatened to be removed from the planet that's another example of how white supremacy wants to uproot us. It's forgotten that the fossils below the ground have always stored Queer ecological memories. People oppose our existence. The way we rise from the depths of the soil is through nurturing our networks for survival. If only people saw queer love as a way to embrace multifaceted values of kinship, care, and understanding.
If we saw queer love that way, our "leaders" wouldn’t be focusing on trying to ban drag shows. Many of those who decide to choose violence want us to be removed from life itself. We decide to spread love despite the hatred we get - we choose the rawest form of love which is to hope they continue to find the pain that hurts them and heal unresolved trauma that's redirected to the entirely wrong group of people.
Queerness is an embodiment of living in co existence with others. If you don’t like that, then you are the issue.
