I kid you not when I say that evil or criminal gays are so so important in representation and some of yall just refuse to get that. The idea that a queer person needs to be perfect flawless and infallible or else they don't deserve to be represented is a legitimately disgusting mindset that perpetuates the idea that queers need to obey and blend in to exist in "normal" society.
Straight people have SO FUCKING MANY movies of evil heartless criminals, or heist romances, or romantic supervillains, etc etc. Like the amount of times I've heard "this villain was right actually" about the fucking Joker or some shit should win me an award with how I've put up with it for so long. If your first thought when you see people celebrating queer rep of villain characters is to say "but she's bad" or get super sarcastic and insulting about it, you need to reexamine some stuff.

I am back here since I saw someone say how Charlie would get away with forgiveness 'cause he had "good" intentions...that man did 10x times more than any character did in any BL I have seen combined, that too, unprovoked, he didn't need to but he did, he bended time to protect babe, respected his boundaries and most importantly never went against his wish. All pain he inflicted on himself was even for babe, dying is easy, living with the physical and emotional pain while being injected by untested drugs is way different and worse. Charlie got forgiveness 'cause his intentions were genuine and selfless, 'cause he didn't do anything to babe, yet he saved him. And in this show, given the context, Charlie could not have done this without lying, how was he supposed to?
I have said this before and I am going to say this again and again, y'all don't like Charlie because he is not a stereotypical "green flag", since he is not "morally perfect" he can't be a good character. His flaws and his love makes him human. Neither he is a green flag nor a red flag. He is very human. And obviously y'all hate humanization of characters 'cause it disturbs y'all understanding of morality and people in general.
The same goes for Babe. Since his trauma and trauma response made sense, y'all hate him too. I mean, how dare they portray him as a human who suffered and had human reactions to everything. How dare they not antagonise that and make him an undeserving asshole.

I have always loved Molly Knox Ostertag's work, in particular the really cute, heartwarming tact of the Witch Boy trilogy's trans allegory and the way it feels so well built to walk that fine line of appropriately nuanced but still perfectly digestible for its intended teen audience.
Well The Deep Dark is more of precisely that style of writing and it blows me away just as much now as Witch Boy did the first time I read it. It's exactly the kind of book I wish I'd had as a kid, and the sort of thing that lights a little hopeful flame in the jaded dark corners of my heart. It's the sort of thing that helps me feel optimistic about a generation of kids who will grow up with this kind of story as their formative personal mythos.
I know I don't usually do reviews or recommendation on this blog so I dunno who this is for really, and it certainly won't have any particular reach, but if you find yourself with the chance to, I really can't recommend The Deep Dark enough. And of course everything else Molly Knox Ostertag has had a hand in, even the one's she's not been the sole author on.

The racism in Metaphor Refantazio is realistic. Narrow-minded bigots like this exist and discriminate against others due to their skin, race, gender, sexuality etc. The game depicts our society well. It being 'in your face' is how it is for those who suffer from discrimination.

Fox’s Tongue and Kirin’s Bone: Signed Copies & Audible Preorder!
Signed Copies || Audible
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Humanity is dying, hunted to extinction by creatures of legend. One boy was born to save them all.
That boy just got knifed in the back. He looked a bit too much like Aaron, you see.
Now it’s Aaron’s job to step up, lest his Death correct that little mix-up. But Aaron’s skills as a street rat run more towards stealing and stabbing than towards saving. And the more he learns of what brought dear dead Markus to that fatal alleyway, the more he has to wonder just what the world’s savior was really up to the night the wrong boy died.
Featuring an ace protagonist, All The Politics, and more mythological worldbuilding than you can shake a suspiciously grinning fox at.
Preorder a signed copy here.
Audible preorder here.
You can also read volume one for free until launch week. Volume two is returning to regular updates on February 25th, also for free. <3

Reason: Trans man protagonist Genre: Drama Average rating: 7.5 (MAL)
Mod review: Great portrayal of a trans man and the dysphoria and dilemmas that being trans can cause. He considers whether to transition for his own happiness, or live as a woman until his father passes in order to please him. He also has a big chest, which isn't that common in transmasc characters. I learnt afterwards that the writer/artist is a trans man, which explains it.

July 18, 2023:
Jaw-dropping. Nothing has brought me back to my younger self as accurately as the beginning of this book. I saw myself here so clearly throughout, and I can only hope I'm half as brave
