Mini-review:

I went into Look Back knowing next to nothing about it, besides the fact that it's based on a manga by Tatsuki Fujimoto (whose work I adore). And I'm so glad I managed to avoid all spoilers, cause it's such a surprising experience. It's a very simple story, actually, but it's told in a way that feels very impactful. Add to that the final stretch, and you get something truly special and unforgettable. Still, at its core, it's a testament to the power of art and storytelling, which will strike a chord with anyone who has dabbled in writing or drawing at some point in their lives. Also, it's just an hour long, so it flies by. Lastly, I can't finish this review without giving kudos to Studio Durian for the beautiful animation work, and to Haruka Nakamura for her gorgeous score. All in all, this movie is easily one of the best I've seen this year.

Look Back (2021) Review

PT-BR Review

O novo mangá one-shot de Tatsuki Fujimoto “Look Back” é o mais novo lançamento da JUMP+ e um mangá que fez um certo sucesso graças a fama que Fujimoto ganhou após escrever Chainsaw Man.

Vou evitar colocar spoilers nessa review

A trama acompanha Fujino, uma garota da quarta série que faz tirinhas 4-Koma (4 painéis) pro jornal da sua escola, tudo muda quando uma outra garota que nao vai para a escola e estuda de casa começa a publicar suas tirinhas junto as de Fujino no jornal da quarta série, seu nome era Kyoumoto, ela desenhava cenários perfeitos, isso desperta na Fujino um sentimento de precisar melhorar seus desenhos. Alguns anos depois ambas acabam virando amigas e começam a produzir seus próprios mangás e daí a história se desenrola.

O nome do mangá é Look Back (Olhe pra Trás se traduzido de forma literal), isso se dá por diversos motivos, o principal e mais evidente deles é que na história na maioria dos quadros, Fujino a protagonista está sentada em uma cadeira de costas e desenhando, tanto para mostrar a repetição que é desenhar quanto para mostrar a mudança da personagem com o tempo. A segunda forma que o nome pode significar é olhar para trás no sentido de olhar o passado da personagem, para entender porque ela faz o que faz. O nome também pode fazer referencia a olhar para trás no sentido de cuidar de alguém próximo de você, no mangá é possivel perceber que Kyoumoto sempre está atrás ou na sombra de Fujino, tanto de forma literal como de forma figurada, e quando Fujino parou pra olhar para trás dela já era tarde demais.

 E a quarta forma como apontada por @nojiri_s no Twitter, o título em japonês é  背景, que pode ser traduzido como “Veja o cenário”, o cenário nesse mangá é uma das partes mais importantes do mangá, a arte é totalmente contemplativa, tornando o cenário um personagem vital pro funcionamento da história.

A história é sobre uma mangaká e é comum nesse tipo de história, que o escritor se reflita de certa forma no personagem, afinal é um mangaká escrevendo sobre um mangaká, e isso é absolutamente presente na obra, começando pelo nome das personagens, Fujino + Kyoumoto é literalmente Fujimoto, ele também coloca a protagonista escrevendo um mangá que é uma referencia clara a Chainsaw Man deixando obvio ao leitor que ele se espelha na protagonista de certa forma. Os problemas que Fujino passa em relação a desenhar a ser mangaká são absolutamente identificáveis e é algo que todo mundo que desenha ou já tentou desenhar teve isso passando na sua mente.

A arte do Fujimoto como sempre é impecável, vale um destaque para as expressões faciais das personagens, que são muito reais e é algo que facilita sua conexão com as personagens, a arte do Fujimoto é extremamente realista mesmo sendo simples, é realista pela maneira que ele consegue passar emoções reais, os personagens choram feio que nem a gente, sorriem feio que nem a gente. Outro crédito para o Fujimoto é os cenários que são perfeitos mas já falei disso anteriormente na review.

O roteiro é muito bem feito e o ritmo do mangá é muito bom, li ele duas vezes seguidas e poderia ler mais de tao bem feito que é Look Back, todos os temas e coisas que o mangá abordam são tratados de forma bastante sutil, fazendo você ter que prestar bastante atenção em tudo e caso nao tenha entendido, voltar e olhar para trás.

Seriously you did an incroyable job in remembering, pointing out even the slightest of movements and just making people aware of the little signs one passes during watching.You just observed so much, it is truly amazing what you put together here. After my sister @cutiepeimei and I saw the musical, we were desperately taking notes lest we’d forget. Below ⇊ are the visual notes she took on the same day.

It also helps that half of Japanese Twitter was firing their reports as well, that’s how I was able to report on Kimura and Kyoumoto’s Rudolf, and other such things I never saw for myself.

Yunvolutions

The thing I lament not having seen most is that apparently during Mayerling when Furutod was teasing Rudolf, he at one point pointed the mouth of the gun to his own head, and then shoved it into his own mouth, as though trying to inspire Rudolf. “Whaddya gonna do? Blow your brains out from the side or from below?”

Something that’s both the best and the worst about Furukawa is that he is constantly changing his performances. Japanese fans call it ‘Yunvolutions’.

Even if you manage to see Furukawa’s performance, you’ve still not seen who his character really is >.>

As Sebas too he did that. At the beginning of Tango on the Campania when he appears in demon form, he used to crawl on the set like a cockroach before sliding down the pole and touching ground. Afterwards, either because he was too tired or because he would risk dropping to the ground, he stopped the coackroaching. Instead, he just emerged from the darkness by the time the DVD caught him… We lost something very dear there…

Though, he made up for this loss of awesomeness. At the beginning, Furukawa didn’t sit down on his master’s bed in the cinematic record. It wasn’t until the last week or so that he started doing that. And it also wasn’t until the last 3 or 4 days that Reo started to push him from his bed.
