Say what you want about Kristen Ashley books but I really like her later in life romances. There are a lot a romances with a 18-21 year old heroines so it’s nice to have good romances with heroines in their 30s-40s

★★★ NOW AVAILABLE IN KINDLE UNLIMITED ★★★
We are so excited to announce that Moonlight and Motor Oil Series from New York Times bestselling author Kristen Ashley is now available in Kindle Unlimited!
Get ready to fall in love with Matlock, Kentucky’s brothers, Johnny and Toby Gamble and the new girls in town, the Forrester sisters!
Read FREE with Kindle Unlimited→ https://mybook.to/MaMOSeries
Synopsis for The Hookup, Book One:
When the new girl in town, Eliza “Izzy” Forrester decides to hit the local drinking hole, she’s not ready to meet the town’s good, solid guy. She’s definitely not prepared to engage in her very first hookup with him.
Then Izzy wakes up the next morning in Johnny Gamble’s bed and good girl Izzy finds she likes being bad for Johnny.
Even so, Izzy feels Johnny holding her at arm’s length. But Johnny makes it clear he wants more and Izzy already knows she wants as much of hot-in-bed, sweet-out-of-it Johnny Gamble.
Floating on air thinking this is going somewhere, Izzy quickly learns why Johnny holds distant.
He’s in love with someone else. Someone who left him and did it leaving him broken. Whoever was up next would be runner up, second best. Knowing the stakes, Izzy will take what she can get from the gentleman that’s Johnny Gamble. And even knowing his heart might never mend, Johnny can’t seem to stay away from Izzy.
Until out of nowhere, his lost love comes back to town. He’s not going back, but Johnny still knows the right thing to do is let Izzy go.
And Izzy knew the stakes, so she makes it easy and slips through his fingers.
But that’s before Johnny realizes Eliza moved to town to escape danger that’s been swirling around her.
And that’s why Johnny decides to wade in.
That and the fact Eliza Forrester makes breakfast with a canary singing on her shoulder and fills out tight dresses in a way Johnny Gamble cannot get out of his head.
Synopsis for The Slow Burn, Book Two:
Tobias Gamble knew from a young age precisely the kind of woman he was going to make his. She was not going to be like his mother. She was going to be like the mother he claimed.
In other words, she was going to be just right.
And when Toby returns to his hometown of Matlock, Kentucky and claps eyes on Adeline Forrester, he knows she’s the one.
The problem is, his brother Johnny has a new girlfriend. And Addie is her sister. Last, Toby would do nothing to hurt Johnny’s chance at happiness.
Toby hangs around town to get to know the woman Johnny fell in love with. He also hangs around to get to know Addie.
But he’s fallen hard, and he knows the best thing for him—and Addie—is for him to leave.
Addie Forrester is thrilled her sister Eliza found a good, solid man. Johnny Gamble is the salt of the earth. The best guy in the world.
The best except for his brother, Toby.
Toby doesn’t know it, but Addie’s fallen hard too. He’s perfect, except for the fact that he’s hands off and it’s torture, being friends with Toby when she wants so much more.
Addie also has a lot on her mind. She’s got bills to pay, her young son needs food, Christmas is coming and her job at the grocery store just isn’t cutting it.
Toby is steering clear of Addie. Addie is steering clear of Toby. But everyone around them knows this is the slow burn.
Because just like Eliza and Johnny, Addie and Toby were made for each other.

May Reading Wrap-up
I read 28 books in May. I think. Goodreads is being wonky with my re-reads so it may be more like 29 or 30.
Of those 28 - 30 books, 7 were comic books or graphic novels. Benji Nate's Lorna and the Magical Beatdown zines by Jenn Woodall really stood out. I love Benji Nate's weird, weird, weird sense of humor.
May was really the month of re-reading. I re-read 8 Theodora Taylor books! I just can't quit her. From a recommendation in her newsletter, I also picked up a couple of Tiffany Patterson books that were pretty ok, a little repetitive in terms of plot and characters.
Another re-read was the Dream Team series by Kristen Ashley. I liked it better the second time around. Maybe because my expectations were lower?
Also re-read most of the Travises series by Lisa Kleypas. I wish she would write more contemporaries.
And I finally finished the Liz Danger series by Jennifer Crusie and Bob Mayer! While it reaches neither the comedic or romantic heights of Agnes and the Hitman, the three books in the series were still enjoyable, funny, and featured a pretty decent romance. Plus, some plot twists I did not see coming. I'm pretty excited that Crusie and Mayer are writing again. Their next series is out later in June!

Games of the Heart by Kristen Ashley
5 stars

Oh, this made me so happy that Mike got his HEA! There was a lot to unpack to get there, but him and Dusty, other than a little bump at the start, never waivered. This story also held a lot of pain, a lot of tears, and a lot of worry. Now, it all transitioned into love, smiles, and hope, but it took quite the journey to get there. And, as it seems to be a trend, we get a two-fer, as Mike’s daughter also gets her HEA, and several moments from her POV throughout. I get why this series is a favourite, and I am falling fast for everyone <3

Nadia Williams needed to escape to a peaceful setting to recover from the trauma of the death of her mother. She rents a small one room cabin on a beautiful lake with only one other home close to hers. Doc Riggs cherishes is peaceful lake and when his new neighbor makes demands on his privacy his instinct is to stay far away, despite her good looks. When the local sheriff, and his best friend, shares her traumatic story, he decides to befriend her in order to make sure she receives any help she might need. He doesn’t expect the protectiveness he feels when she and the cabin she’s living in is targeted by activities that are both spooky and dangerous. The Misted Pines series is a bit of a departure from this author’s normal novels. These books fall into more of a romantic suspense category and the eerie lake setting and the mysterious noises in The Woman By the Lake provide a creepy scene perfect for a hero to come to the damsel’s rescue. Nadia Williams has plenty of spunk and fire, but she’s more of a girly girl and seems to appreciate leaning on her handsome neighbor. That lean quickly evolves into a romantic relationship that turns Riggs into the alpha hero we come to expect from a Kristen Ashley novel. I think I preferred the previous novels more than this one but I still enjoyed Nadia and Riggs’ story. The mystery was well developed and captured my interest but I never felt the spiked tension that the first two novels gave that the serial killer mysteries provided. Despite that the romance between Nadia and Riggs was fun and I loved all of the detailed moments that the author provided to set the scene. I wish I had a place to escape to like Nadia’s place, it sounded like the perfect girlie cabin in the woods. All in all this was a fun story and perfect for a weekend of reading. ❤️❤️❤️❤️ Click this link to purchase this book!* The Woman By The Lake Copyright 2024 The Reading Chick All Rights Reserved *Amazon Associate- if you purchase this book through the above link I’ll receive a small stipend.

February 2024 book haul
Hello friends!! Welcome to the February 2024 book haul!! A post where I talk about all the books that I bought and received in the previous month. Ahh February… the shortest month of the year. Although this year it’s only the shortest by one day because it’s a leap year. Somehow I managed to purchase THREE TIMES the number of books I did in January though, so I more than made up for it being a…

I stayed up late reading this book. I loved the family dynamic. I'm a sucker for a good found family trope 🥺. I loved every character except for one. You'll probably feel the same way when you read the book. This book made me laugh , cry, and curse out loud a couple of times.
Warnings ⚠️ 600+ pages. Character death. Depression and loss of a loved one. Smut. Many characters ( there'll be moments where you go, "Wait, who is this?")

My Fav Bad Girls
#PrettyHeiressDiaries: BGC Edition 🎀
tiara - bgc 7
Tumblr media
“i’m the sh*t! look at me, then look at you! look at your hair, then look at mine!” ❤︎︎
bougie girl down! the hair and makeup were never not on point (tbh this is the reason i like most of these girls)!
real and pretty. never hopped on a bandwagon simply bc it was popular.
so freaking funny! and effortlessly too. she never came across as try hard.
my number one fav!
ashley - bgc 6
Tumblr media
“i’m establishing my own dominance and these b*tches can’t f*ck with me!” ❤︎︎
if tiara is my number one fav, ashley is a close number two!
very girly girl and i love that in anyone.
cute little playboy bunny.
so authentic and never gave snake or try hard.
took an entire house on and was not scared to stand alone.
danni - bgc 8
Tumblr media
“i’m not scared of no b*tch! whoop my ass today, whoop my ass tomorrow! i don’t give a f*ck how big you are! if i wanna do something i’m gonna do it and none of these b*tches are gonna stop me! so i’m glad you whooped my ass! that was the biggest fight in bad girls club history and it ultimately made us the stars, so, THANK YOU!” ❤︎︎
if you pay attention, danni was never the issue. she just always had her sisters back unconditionally. as someone with three sisters, i love that.
she and her sister WERE the entertainment of season 8.
knew she couldn’t fight and walked into the lions den unafraid. tbh i don’t care about a girl that “fights”. that is NEVER the reason i like someone. it’s corny.
danni was very clearly aware of the bigger picture and simply did not care about taking a hit. it’s not that deep.
camilla - bgc 8
Tumblr media
“b*tch you’re just mad that another cute, hottie chick came up in this mug, and looked AMAZING!” ❤︎︎
gorgeous!!!! doesn’t get enough credit as one of the prettiest bad girls.
as someone that has been bullied in real life it was so fulfilling to see the way she handled it. she didn’t let ANYTHING shake her.
said exactly how she felt when she felt that way.
girls were jealous and she knew it.
sarah - bgc 11
Tumblr media
“there’s no lying or sugar coating it! i do what i say and i say what i do!” ❤︎︎
my fav bgc blonde of all time. better than kate, kristen, and jada in my opinion.
yeah she talks a lot but she’s real and isn’t scared of anyone.
i would love to be friends with her she seems so sweet and caring. she reminds me of the girls that took me under their wing when i started at hooters.
called out stephanie’s irrelevant ass at the reunion, checked mehgan as soon as she heard shit talking + anyone who beats gigi’s ass is a fav in my book!
her signature piercings, bows, and blonde hair was so bimbo i love it. + that iconic reunion look!!!
unfortunately didn’t get enough time to shine on that raggedy season of hers but she was definitely the star of season 11 so i’m glad we got to see more of her on BGASB and season 13.
jelaminah - bgc 14
Tumblr media
“i don’t feel like i’m better than nobody!… but i’m comfortable with who i am because it’s taken me a lot!” ❤︎︎
dominance at its finest. she said it’s the jela show and manifested that down. she had girls stuck in her face, but talking behind her back. that’s because they knew it wouldn’t fly.
her signature look oozed of feminine allure. educated! believed in having her own life and goals AND not entertaining men that weren’t up to her standards.
she kept her space clean and was disgusted by mess and filth.
able to cope with lots of personalities and get along with everyone.
proud to be black and didn’t tolerate racism.
the clermont twins - bgc 14
Tumblr media
“you know, certain things i can’t help. i feel like i’m not just cute; like i got a lot going for myself and i’m smart. so like when you’re that strong of a person, you’re a bad b*tch!” -shannon
“i just look so damn good, and it’s so hard to meet other girls who are just as confident as i am! -shannade
“b*tch, SHUT UP!” ❤︎︎
vain black barbies and i’m here for it.
as much as people seem to think otherwise, they weren’t mean girls or bullies. they just spoke up for themselves when getting unsolicited harassment from the other girls.
every look for for me was a ten. i loved their aesthetic back then.
smart girls. they capitalized on their appearance on the show and now they’re two of the most noteworthy and wealthy bad girls ever.
unshakable confidence. the other girls wanted them humbled so bad and they just didn’t waiver. luvs it.

The Month of Love: Short Romance Reads
Instead of reading a bunch of romance novels this month, I read a whole bunch of romance novellas as well as some science fiction (and yes, I know it's not technically romance, but I nonetheless enjoyed them).

This was a perfect second chance romance, no notes! The why they split, the how they came back together, the unbreakable bond, all good. The storyline for the mystery, absolutely terrifying. The cast of secondary characters, new and old, completely endearing and entertaining.
