the improbable meet-cute collection review:

dear god turns out none of these nyt bestselling authors apart from christina lauren knows what a short story is or how to write one!!

1 — the exception to the rule: this was super cute. the only story in here that qualifies as a proper short story honestly. definitely would read again and like i thought this was a sign that i would love the anthology. oh how wrong i was...

2 — worst wingman ever: i should have stopped when i read the word "unalived" but noooooo !!! i had to go and read the rest. there are also weird stereotypes about gay people?? and like this one genuinely has the absolute worst setting as far as romance stories go

3 — rosie and the dreamboat: i should have learned my lesson after reading the hating game but of course fucking not. why does the fmc talk like a baby and why does the mmc talk to her like she's a little girl and he's her dad EUGHHHHH BROTHER EUGHHHHHH her sister is a BITCH btw??? because i would prioritise making sure my sister is safe over setting her up with a hot man. jfc. also PLEASE no man who says "my ma" can ever be a dreamboat fuck off

4 — drop, cover, and hold on: at this point, i was starting to realise that a lot of writers think that short stories are just smaller novels also ngl until like 65% i did not know what the mmc was called. yeah this was... not good the only think i like about this is the setting, fucking love bakeries man

5 — with any luck: ashley poston i knew you wouldn't disappoint me after the last three absolute trainwreck stories. wish it was a little longer tho!!

6 — royal valentine: BORINGGGGG he's a pissy little man child btw like they're both lying about the exact same thing and he's somehow fucking mad at her??? girl???? also the authors WRITES DOWN the mmc's scottish accent so words like "wasnae" and "dinnae" are very common. i wanted to burn my kindle.

in summary; i did this to myself i literally have no excuses

#kingdom hearts dream drop distance #khddd #braig #xigbar #my gif #his pointy shoulders deflated with age #...do you ever wonder about his scarf?#radiant garden took pride in its beauty and ansem the wise was a ruler who was beloved and admired by his people (despite... yknow)#so is it safe to assume that being a guard of this world being tasked with protecting the castle/its ruler/and the townspeople-#would be considered a prestigious occupation?#yet we see braig wearing an old tattered scarf #it's a curious addition to his uniform that looks out of place among other guards #i dont think it was added to his design to help him stand out because cmon it's not like he's competing for relevance with dilan and aeleus #braig fights from afar with his guns it's not like he's some scrappy guy that might have messy clothes from battle #i wouldn't be surprised if this was ephemer's scarf that he somehow came into possession of #and is holding onto it with the possibly of it being used as some kind of medium/waypoint #who's to say he's not still wearing it under his organization coat? just because we can't see it anymore doesn't mean it's gone #riku had an entirely different outfit under his own organization coat so who knows what xigbar has under there #i like to think braig used to be scolded for wearing the scarf because it covers up the uniform's emblem #and wearing old ripped articles of clothing isn't part of the image the guards would presumably have to uphold #but eventually they gave up on making him take it off because he just does whatever he wants #just something i think about from time to time #xigbar has always been so mysterious and cryptic i can't help but keep an extra close eye on him #especially since he's been revealed to be so much more than what he seems. who knows what tricks he has up his sleeve #i don't think it's outside the realm of possibility

I'm seeing people point out that the Craving (at least the single version) is about SAI being perceived by a lot of people as a flop album & I think that's probably correct but I also think it probably applies to Lavish, because I truly cannot imagine why else they decided to include it on the album? Like don't get me wrong I love Lavish but narratively it reads as the most 'expendable" song on the tracklist. Yet Tyler allegedly wanted to leave off Navigating (which they gave the lore video to, lmao) and kept Lavish. Which is fair because it's a banger and a nice break from everything else, but it's also just telling to me that they very intentionally did a song about industry bullshit on this album, the most direct they've gotten since Lane Boy.

Like either their label or someone in the industry did something to piss them off that we don't know about, or it's a generalized frustration. I have to imagine it would hurt to be Grammy noms/winners two albums in a row and then be paid dust the minute you do something a little different. Or (purely speculating here) to experience label pressure to have another album cycle like blurryface, when that's virtually impossible to replicate unless you're, like, taylor swift specifically, and when it inevitably doesn't happen they start pulling back on financing/promoting you/helping you get nominations the same way they used to. They're fucking you behind your back and you can't really do much about it because they're the ones with the money and the influence, and you're supposed to trust them to take care of/care about your work. Like tøp has never been a band that values itself on award or critical recognition, it's always been for us, but creatively speaking the whiplash of going right from your most commercially successful album, to your most critically acclaimed album, then to your most criticized - and to a degree you now just assume your time as a critical/commercial darling has passed, which Tyler seems to - would have to hurt. It would have to.

sooo i gave FG his birthday present 😭🫣🥹

#sorry it’s been a minute since the latest update i haven’t really hung out with FG™️ for a looong time bc of exams but fortunately his bday #is the end of april soo i was able to do a lil celebration with him. sooo backtrack in february when he made me a LITERAL WEBSITE #i was thinking of what to get him so i prayed and the Holy Spirit said a playlist with a journal with all these Bible verses connected to th #songs which was fun to make but just took a lot #of work soo i was vvv busy doing that and classes soooo when i finally finished i surprised him outside his work place and then i asked if #he wanted to go anywhere specific to give him his present and he said no soo i suggested this cafe a lil outside our city soo we were #driving for 30 minutes and in my head i was like ok this is the perfect time to hold hands for a reeeeaalllllyy long time so i was just like #‘i want to hold your hand 🫣’ and he just handed his hand over and he was like ‘it’s that simple 😊 and i was holding his hand with both hands #bc i missed him sososo much so we got to the cafe ordered and i gave him his present and he was tearing up covering his mouth it was so swee #i couldn’t and he kept saying ty and this is exactly what he needed and i was like 😭🥹🥺🥺🥰🥰🥰 and he was sooo grateful and when we got in the #car he couldn’t stop looking at me and we held hands the whole time again 🥰😭🫣🫣🫣🫣#and then when he dropped me home we hugged for a reaalllyyyyy long time and he was just saying ty all over he’s such a darling sweetheart 😭🥰#so ya that’s the latest update i’m going to see him later today and hang out with him and another friend 😁🤗 i really want to hold his hand #again 🫣🥰🥺#vk overshares in the tags #friendly giant ™️#FG ™️

like, taking Duncan’s attitude both overall and in regards to always being the new kid, he would be making an effort to fit in and then he meets the school’s bully as he always does (Manny, in this case) and he gets goaded into a fight.
