Rost and Aloy
Kratos and Atreus
Have some similarities
Both fathers had previous families ( a wife and a daughter) lost them both , went on a revenge massacre , almost died or “died” at the end of the journey
Then get a red headed child that utilises archery as the weapon of choice and their names Start with the letter A.

KRATOS QUOTING PANDORA BACK FROM GOW3. Not only Kratos embraces his role as the God of Hope, but also finds his purpose in protecting his newfound family, home, and everyone within the realms. He failed once before, especially Pandora back in Greek era. He released hope for the people of Greece after his reign of destruction, and now he aims to inspire and bring hope to his current people while carrying on with Pandora's final words in his mind i'm-

"Hope is what makes us strong. It is why we are here. It is why we fight with when all else is lost."
Kratos inspiring hope and reuniting everyone when facing future threats. This is why Týr recognize his potential. That's what makes it so important for Kratos' growth.

You know, I feel like Kratos forgetting Calliope’s song was a wee bit harsh on the part of the writers.
I think his explanation of how he would’ve given up everything for a few moments more with his daughter, but when he met Faye, found the world worth living in again, would’ve been enough. Imo that illustrates his journey well in of itself.
To add onto that that when he found his new family, he could no longer recall Calliope’s song (played on the flute he made for her)…I dunno, it doesn’t make me think, ‘oh look at Kratos’s growth and development’ as I’m sure the writers intended. I understand the symbolism they were aiming for, but honestly it just made me sad
It’d be different if he was struggling to remember just due to the passing of time, but the fact he says he forgets it specifically after meeting Faye changes the meaning imo.
Kratos could remember his daughter’s song - presumably her favourite, that she played often, if it stuck in his memory - just because he loves her. To remember doesn’t intrinsically mean he’s haunted by it. memories of, and a love for, his Grecian family isn’t inherently negative, or something that has to be ‘let go of’ for him to progress as a character.

Me: *bolts awake at 3 AM* BALDUR'S GATE 3 AU WHERE, THROUGH DIMENSIONAL SHENANIGANS, KRATOS ENDS UP OCCUPYING THE ROLE OF TAV!
THINK OF IT! JUST THINK OF IT!
Companion: So any that's how that God/Being of incredible power ruined my life.
Kratos, noted Godslayer, planning how he's going to destroy yet another pantheon for these weird little mortals he's found himself in charge of: Tell me more.
*later*
Gale and Astarion: Becoming a God would fix me, I promise!
Kratos: *knocks their heads together like the Three Stooges* No.
His favorite companion is actually Jaheira because she's one of the only ones who knows how to shut the fuck up and he bonds with her and Minthara over shitty jokes and grunts of displeasure.
Mizora takes one look at him, recognizes that Wyll and Karlach are now hanging with THE KRATOS and hides in the depths of Avernus for the rest of the game.
He is hella distrustful of Selune when Shadowheart starts worshiping her instead of Shar but Dame Aylin seems alright so he's okay with it for now even if he's watching every statue of Selune they pass with a suspicious eye.
Lae'zel is now his daughter. He takes one look at this angry, disagreeable little murder-hobo and immediately starts carrying her around in a baby-backpack even as she tries to bite his face off like a feral racoon.
He's actually hella sympathetic towards Ketheric Thorm because... like... yeah...
His endgame is leading a crusade in Avernus to kill Zariel with Karlach, Wyll, Minthara, Dame Aylin and Isobel with him. And once Zariel is dead, Shar, Mystra, and Vlaakith are next on his list.
DO YOU SEE MY VISION?! DO YOU?! KRATOS BEING THE AWKWARD LEADER OF THESE LITTLE MORTAL FREAKS HE SEES A LITTLE BIT OF HIMSELF IN ALL OF THEM AND DECIDES TO HELP THEM WITH ALL 5 OF HIS B+ PARENTING SKILLS!

i still think it's so funny how in the end of ragnarok when kratos visits jotunheim, angrboda mentions atreus honing his drawing skills and needing discipline and that's where kratos thinks 'yep. future daughter-in-law.'
THE MAN SAID INSTANTLY WENT "I LIKE YOU" I'M CRYING
kratos now having the oppurtunity of seeing his child grow and have a gf warms him more than we could even imagine 🤭 its even better when i see chris and laya interact like thats rlly his new baby now LMAOOOOOOO

I 100% agree with you!!
thought a "corruption arc" for atreboda is something I'd love to see, I don't want them to incorporate entirely the "loki vibes" into atreus. I think him being an unusual adaptation of loki while still having some of his personality of the myths is the best part of his characterization and what makes him so unique compared to other retellings (like the marvel version of loki), and losing this part of his character in order to make him more like the myths would be a huge turn off.
and for what I said, I like to think of them incorporating some of their traits from the mythology such as "loki the trickster" and "angrboda 'the one who brings grief'" into this specific scenario.
this could parallel to greece!kratos (though not entirely since they wouldn't be that insane), and even freya in ragnarök trying to avenge baldur's death, something that only brought her even more pain.
and of course, them finally having to accept her role as "hel", even if it means they have to be parted most of the time (something like the myth of hades and persephone, where demeter is forced to see her daughter gone)
speaking of hel, I always imagined an atreus and angrboda corruption arc involving her death, and since I'm obsessed with the mythology I'd love to see sms take both of them to a more "gray" characterization, just like their counterparts in the mythology.
I'd love to see them doing anything to bring their daughter back, and when they finally can, they're met with the fact that she can't live outside helheim, making the only place where she can have a sort of “normal childhood” and grow older is in the realm of the dead. (I haven't thought about how that would work, I'm just really into the concept of them having to accept that no matter what, their daughter is “gone”)
idk if this makes sense at all
Definitely a possible scenario, if not entirely the one I would hope for myself but would enjoy and embrace if executed right. I admit to my bias regarding mythological references and the idea that mythological accuracy translates to cultural accuracy when it's not the case. As a person of Greek background, my main issue is viewing Greek mythology as a representation of Greek culture and values and rejecting any media that attempts a different approach. Including media that redefines mythology in order to show Greek characters or people of any culture as multi-dimensional persons rather than stereotypes.
In that vein, a common complaint from the non-Greek "progressives" is that Disney's Hercules "makes a mockery of Greek mythology" and therefore is supposedly not a "good representation" when it's actually one of the few positive and respectful cultural representations Disney has ever presented. It treated the characters as individuals with their own complex experiences rather than walking stereotypes: Hercules as a young man craving validation and ultimately realizing social approval is far less important in the grand scheme of things than finding contentment and adjustment in your person life with an equal partner and loving parents even if they are not your biological family (and even if said biological family parted with you due to forces completely beyond their control). Phil as a disillusioned middle aged male who could have easily remained cynical, bitter and limited his attempts to change his life for the better to harassing random women. But instead chose to reevaluate his views and realize it was up to him, first and foremost, to "go the distance" and be an example for a younger generation of men and boys. And obviously Meg and the Muses who openly discussed the issue of chauvinism and oppression of women. And whose entire storyline smashed the modern "feminism" (which is actually not feminism at all but a repackaged patriarchy in a girlboss form) by highlighting that hating men and rejecting the idea of romantic relationship with them is not "progressive" nor does it make women safe. What is progressive is a woman celebrating her romantic agency and acting on it even if the man she is attracted to might potentially not meet her expectations or prove to be unscrupulous (and if that ends up being the case it would be his fault, not hers; hence why Meg's ex ended up betraying her after she made sacrifices for him whilst Hercules sacrificed just as much for her as she did for him - because people regardless of gender are individuals with agency rather than a function to make anyone's life better or worse).
In that vein, Gow series offering their own take on myths has never been a problem for me. I have a much bigger issue with fandom "progressives" involving Lysandra in their HCs in order to "progressify" her and imply that her being "just" a devoted wife to Kratos was never enough to absolve her of a "Greek doormat proto wife" stereotype. SMS is the main culprit of this perception though because they know their target audience now includes the young leftists who don't go beyond the surface (much like the right wing dudebros). They, thus, would only see Lysandra as a female character whose role was "limited" to being Kratos's "Doormat Dead Wife" (as opposed to the "quirky and feminist Nordic Dead Wife" that was Faye; which is the perception of Faye that dehumanizes her completely and makes me want to defend her even more). Therefore Lysandra needs to be "fixed" and/or be included in assorted "progressive HCs". Again, I hold SMS accountable for that perception to a much greater extent than the fans who just go along with what is shown to them.
Greek women can't win because we have to deal with misogynistic "men of the house" first and then we have to deal with media and progressives trying to "fix" us.
In that vein, what I hope for in the upcoming games is Kratos honestly telling Atreus about both his sister Calliope and about Lysandra. GowR already made a step towards that by having Kratos have a heart to heart with Freya about Calliope but him not mentioning Lysandra to anyone in his current life (and the current timeline) is still problematic.
Notably, that artwork SMS reblogged where Angrboda pays her respects to Lysandra and Calliope by creating an art piece dedicated too them and "including" them in the family feast would be a perfect way to rectify those issues, were such a scene to happen in canon.
Hel's "half-dead" myth reference can absolutely come into play because SMS is known for incorporating myth references but offering their own spin on them (that's the foundation of the Gow series). While I don't necessarily want a "dark arc" for either Atreus and Angrboda, it would definitely be a fulfilling storyline to have Atreus in particular to fight for his family and not repeat any of Kratos's mistakes. I mentioned before that Atreus and Angrboda should mirror the positive aspects of Kratos and Faye's story while avoiding the more problematic ones such as lies and keeping major secrets from one another, even for selfless reasons.
Therefore, Atreus and Angrboda, by being perfectly honest with one another and doing everything to save their daughter together, could break the cycle of problematic parenting that Kratos, Faye and Freya all exhibited at different points and to varying degrees. Their challenges will come from external forces and if they do choose to go a darker route, it would be the route for themselves only, but not for "Hel" (whatever her name would be).
