some thoughts abt teuk n sora

because i enjoyed being exposed to an overwhelming amount of sugar and dimples, apparently

watched the episodes a few years ago but my korean wasn't that good yet so i didn't really get into them

but these days my korean got better! so i know the gist of what they're doing, what's going on, what are they saying to flirt with each other etc. i ended up watching their cinema meeting part #1-#10 without realizing it and was so pleased at understanding 70% of their awkwardness!

i saw "sunny" but i didn't know it was sora! the more you get into hallyu i guess…

i was thinking that sora had such an innocent and youthful look about her, then i look her up and was like… oh it's a seven year gap! the only other i've seen having that much gap is between choi minyong and jang doyeon (8 years) which we'll talk about those two in another post!!

well that gap didn't matter either as leader teuk was so flustered around her 70% of the time lol

Idek how to explain this except search for any, AMY video of her on a variety show in recent times. Radio Star, Happy Together... literally effing anything.

I find it kinda funny and sad at the same time - on one hand, it makes Choi Min Soo The Public Figure a little more accessible and nice, so to say. Considering he's gotten his rowdy self into a lot of trouble in the earlier part of this century, it helps to kinda soften down his reputation as a real life gangster.

On the other hand... Aunty June does so much outside of that and is so much more of a person outside of just being Choi Min Soo's wife. She has a mind and a life and a job and activities of her own and she surely has a lot to say about that too... and its just so obvious that she's being actively reduced to nothing but her husband (and I'm really trying to change that in my eyes). She is on the Korean Board Of Education, all kinds of forums and trade delegations between Canada and Korea, has a homeshopping broadcast, all that and more. Like I genuinely don't even know what else because it's just so damn much... and yet, all that matters to broadcast stations are stories about her mans.

It's bad enough for her, and even worse for some other actresses that also married actors, like Ha Hee Ra or So Yu Jin. They literally get stripped of their identities in favour of that of their husband's wives. And it sucks.

random thought but one of my fav things while watching korean idol variety shows is when idols call their mothers or grandmothers when making traditional food/snacks (i see this most when they’re making kimchi) and idk,, it’s a very tender and warm sight. the way their tone changes into something more familiar and lighthearted when their family member picks up the call and the way their family members are so readily available to help them. it’s those rare moments of familial love and sincerity that stick with me.

This remains my favorite Korean variety (?) show and if you've never seen it, go watch this stream! (If it's not available outside Korea or you need English subs, it should be on the free streaming sites~)

It's called 크라임씬 (Crime Scene) and there are 3 seasons (2014~2017). The main cast + guest are assigned characters and do a murder mystery game. They have to search the crime scene for clues, then discuss & interrogate each other to determine who the murderer is. Sometimes they get it right, sometimes they don't. It's a blast

A new version is coming out next year called 크라임씬 리턴즈/Crime Scene Returns and I'm very excited~
