Korean Vox HCs

TW: Mention of sexual assault(not anything related to the characters, only related to Korean history & Japanese occupation)

Korean name Nam Hyeon Chul(남현철)- I chose this because Hyeon(현) means "smart" and Cheol(철) means "iron/metal", and the last name Nam(남) because it fits well with the name. "Smart metal".. Get the pun?

Forced Japanese name being Minami(Nam) Kentetsu(Hyeonchul)- He absolutely hates being called this.

Normally speaking fluent English but slipping up once in a while(e.g. Quietly saying '..잘생겼다' instead of 'handsome' when first seeing Alastor, occasionally swearing in Korean instead of English, etc.)

Born in 1931 in Korea, grew up under the Japanese government until the independence(1945). He was frequently bullied by the Japanese children and though he had an aptitude for technology, he was ignored and ridiculed because he was Korean.

His mother died after his brother was born and his father got arrested for disobeying the authorities. They're both in Heaven.

He had four younger siblings- three sisters and one brother- and always dutifully cared for them. Two of his sisters got captured by the 위안부(An association Japan made to "relieve" their soldiers, they kidnapped young women and got r*ped by them) and only one of them came back. He absolutely loathes Japan even more for this. All of his siblings are in Heaven.

He is fluent in Japanese as well as Korean but highly dislikes speaking it.

He learned English in school but became fluent after falling in Hell.

As the Korean War broke out(1950), Vox, resenting it deeply, immigrated to Japan. With his skills, he worked as an electrician and specialized and was captivated by TVs. One day, one of his clients, completely unaware of his nationality, bragged about how "back in the day" used to be associated with the 위안부(the place his sisters got dragged to). Out of rage, he killed him by electrocuting him and was surprised by how amazing it felt.

From that day, he started to murder Japanese elders he knew were affiliated with abuse towards Koreans. This got him involved in shady businesses.

A malfunctioning TV killed him when he was 28.

He listened to some of Alastor's recordings before he died, learning some English with it. He thought the timbre of his voice was very nice.

He cooks. Since both Velvette and Valentino are unable to function like a normal demon he cooks breakfast, lunch, and dinner for them. He used to secretly gift food for Alastor as well- though he didn't say so, Alastor actually appreciated those.

He only started dating Valentino because of similarities with Alastor- did not work out well but he hides his troubles deep down.

He celebrates seolnal and chuseok by himself;)

Bipolar disorder- As someone who has been diagnosed it themself, I can see this. I might elaborate in some post later on<3

Snippet Sunday - Sneak Preview for To The Shore

thanks @fangbangerghoul for the reminder! it's snippet sunday, everyone! for all other fic writers, post up your snippets! my chores are done for the day, so i want to read <3

for today, as your snippet, you're going to get a peek ahead to a new chapter cos i'm still stuck on the current one. this takes place during the Matters of the Hart quest.

“That was way too easy. And, how convenient that the slate with the coordinates survived the explosion,” Hwa said from the captain’s chair. “And, did you take note of the name of the ship?

Sam looked at Hwa, getting the gist of what she was saying, as he was feeling it himself. “It was a setup, wasn’t it?” he asked. Hwa nodded. He could see anger beginning to percolate beneath her surface. She stood up and left the cockpit, and watched the emotionless mask fall again. Remind me never to play poker with her, he thought.

Hwa confronted Lillian in the galley. “This is a trap, Lillian. Cora could have seen through the plan. They want to take you out, and make the Rangers look bad, and you fell for it,” Hwa said. “The ship was named the Dumas. As in the Count of Monte Cristo. As in the book you’re reading with Cora. Is any of this getting through to you?”

“That means there’s a mole in the Rangers,” Sam added.

Hwa nodded, then turned back to Lillian. “Going forward, this is my op. You follow my commands to the letter, are we clear?” Every word she said was clearly enunciated, but with no emotion.

Lillian was bristling and already had her hackles up, “You don’t get to tell me…” she started. 

Hwa cut her off, “I do get to tell you. You are on my ship. You are putting Cora into danger. You are forcing my hand by playing into this trap that a child could have seen. You could have sent a small wet-works team to take Valerie out instead of this nonsense.”

Sam coughed, “That’s not really how it’s done in law enforcement, Hwa, but, oh nevermind…” he said half under his breath.

“Now, you listen here,” Lillian shouted, sputtering into Hwa’s face.

Hwa looked implacably back, showing little emotion, unlike Lillian who was getting angrier and redder in the face. “No. I’m done. You want my help, you play by my book.” She turned to Sam, “And, no wet-works team,” she said, “though it would have saved a lot of trouble,” she mumbled under her breath, betraying her frustration for the first time.

it will be wrote in first POV (point of view of the main character) the first chapter will be Alice (her real name is Eun-Ae) Kim's point of view and the other is Lucy Miller's point of view.

my laptop charger uhhhhhh. met its end in a very permanent, very fire hazardy kind of way last week. while waiting for a replacement I decided to try and get some work done at the library and was asking around for some urban fantasy (extra points for a mystery plot of some kind) recommendations to check out while I was there

the eric carter series was mentioned a couple of times, AND had the added bonus of having a necromancer for a main character. I love necromancers. someday I'm gonna play one in a game instead of immediately defaulting to vampires.

𓆩 ♡ 𓆪 [10:45 PM] - "Should I be worried that you know how to replicate fake blood this well? I probably should be, right?" Jinwoo jokes as he enters your dorm room.

You decided to be a killer playboy bunny for the Halloween party tonight. The five-kitchen ingredient mixture drips from your neck as only moments ago you finished your makeup.

"If you want to get bloody tonight, I've got enough to share." You chuckle, placing the bowl of red liquid on your desk. "Where's your costume?"

Originally, it was supposed to be you and your best friend. She got hit with a bad stomach virus the night before and was still in recovery.

He offered to be your plus one once you gave him the news. It's somewhat of a favor he owed you from before. He's dressed in a black cotton button-down, partially unbuttoned, with matching black jeans. Black high-top Chuck Taylor's on his feet.

"My package got delayed, so no Ghostface mask. You're my plan B."

"Plan B?"

He takes a seat at your desk, crossing his arms as he leans back into your chair. "You've got any ideas?"

You squint, trying to picture a look at him. Something that would take no time at all.

"A Skeleton." You snap your fingers, having an 'aha' moment.

His mouth curled into a smile as he nodded, lifting his shoulder in a half shrug. Digging through your makeup bag, whatever wasn't in there was strewn about.

Your posters, tapestries, and post-it notes with reminders and daily affirmations on them catch his attention. Everything had a similar color palette, from your sheets to your laundry basket to your rug beside your bed. It made him wish he'd stop by more often.

"Do you want me to paint your neck and chest too?" You asked, sizing him up as you organized your brushes and body paints.

Your question hangs in the air. He hasn't had his face painted since he was a child. Tonight was the one night he could be truly himself. Carefree and stupid like every other twentysomething. Based on your makeup alone, he knows he's in good, capable hands.

Jinwoo scoots forward in your chair.

"Yeah, go all out. Make me a skeleton."

You smirk, standing between his legs. Raking your fingers through his hair, you attach two larger hair clips. His exposed forhead meets a cooling sensation from your primer. Its slushy to then tacky consistency threw him off.

You trace a black outline around his eye sockets, whispering for him to close his eyes. He does so, allowing you to deepen the shadows. Drawing on his nasal cavities and each tooth across his upper and lower lip, you're deathly close. Your thumb smudges away any mistakes, much to his confusion. He almost thought you were doing it on purpose. Almost.

Down his neck, your thin brush goes as he twitches a tad. "Are you ticklish?" You take a go at him. There was no reply. He merely blinks and scoffs.

You keep going, carving out each spinel vertebrae. From the cervical to the thoracic vertebra, brushstrokes flowed into his ribcage. His toned chest surprises but doesn’t shock you. Guess all that excessive training paid off.

"Tell me, what made you take this route this year?" A cheeky grin plastered across his face. "Never would've thought you were one for the classics."

"Classic easy access, you mean?" You joke, applying the white body paint next. It fills in the shaped skull of his face like an X-ray. Your brush strokes earn another twitch out of him.

"Jin, quit moving, or you're gonna look like shit." You huff, sucking your teeth.

"Okay, okay, I'm sorry. I can't help it. It feels weird."

His mischievous glint in his eyes trails up and down your neck and exposed chest.

"I guess I'm playing guard dog tonight, too? All things considered?"

"If you're looking for an excuse to kick some guy's ass for looking at me too hard, be my guest. You don't need my permission."

You straightened your stance, making sure every marking was symmetrical. Up went your thumb. It splits his face into two halves. Closing your right eye, your tongue sticks out from between your lips.

He leans his head to the left, taking your thumb in his larger hand and pulling you forward.

"Whaddaya doing?"

"Admiring my work, you're one hell of a canvas." You thread a hand through his hair, removing the hair clips. His bangs flow back where they were.

Jinwoo rises from your chair. His hand never lets go of yours, nor does he break his gaze.

"Paint me again sometime, yeah?"

I also wanna say that I really liked Jyungreok's (Let me know if I spelled that wrong) energy too when he joined, he was absolutely hilarious. Though he hasn't been on as much to see. Same with Acau and Kong (Again, let me know if I'm spelling these wrong)

It's just nice to see this kind of positivity again and remember the great things that this server can bring to people all around the world. I'm really excited to see more of them once the server gets back up and running at 100% again (I also cannot WAIT to see how YD and Kong interact with Chunsik)
