Baby Blues

Part 1

Keith and Lance have gotten the sudden news of a baby available for their adoption. All the excitement of starting a new family has began to turn into an anxiety for Keith.

A/N: I really like writing soft, cute family stuff like this, it just brings my heart so much joy. This is entirely a fluff fic written for funsies please don’t be gross. Enjoy!!

Keith’s heart was hammering, He couldn’t calm down. The stress and anxiety he felt couldn’t be calmed. He bit down on his hand, nearly chipping his teeth on the blue wedding band that sat there. The events of the last night were swimming in his head.

They had been sitting at the kitchen table when the phone rang, a baby was available for adoption. The news had made Lance drop the mug he was holding out of excitement. Keith had all but jumped into his arms as they spun around, carefully avoiding the broken mug on the floor, full of joy at the knowledge that they would soon be a family. Just as soon as they had the mug shards cleaned and were in their good clothes the two of them hopped in the car and began to drive three states over. All the joy had began to swirl into pure dread.

His husband reached out a hand to his. Turning to look at him with those calm blue eyes he knew so well. “It’s okay to be nervous.” Lance whispered. Keith looked down. “I know- I just” He stopped himself for a second out of fear of crying “I just don’t want to mess it all up”

He felt Lance’s hand caress his face “We’re not going to, You’re not going to”

Keith did all he could to hold back tears, “What if I’m just like my mom—”

“Badass and hot? You already got that down pat.”

“No- what. Lance gross. I mean jumping ship when things get tough and leaving you and the child alone.”

“Babe, these feelings are valid. But may I remind you, your mom didn’t leave you because things got though or stressful. She left to protect you. She did the hardest thing imaginable out of love. She was able to come back into your life wasn’t she? Give Kerolia a little credit” Lance started

Keith ducked down further “I know but- what if that urge strikes me?”

Lance leaned into kiss Keith gently, “Well, you are not your mother. You’re Keith Kogane, a man who saved the universe. You can handle being a father. I believe in you. You’re one of the most competent men I know.”

Keith blushed, the flattery was nice. Although he still was super skeptical.

Lance continued “Plus you’re literally amazing with my sister’s kids. Like c’mon Silvio basically warships you and you didn’t even have to TRY. So please give yourself a little credit and believe that you might be good at this. For me?”

Keith nestled his neck into Lance’s shoulder. “How are you so calm about this.” He asked “This is probably one of the biggest things that can ever happen to us.”

Lance sighed and smoothed over Keith’s hair.

“I’m not. I’m terrified to tell you the truth. But there’s two of us and we’ll try our very best.” He smiled “Do you think we’re going to be any good at this?”

Keith leaned in closer. “I have no idea” he sighed “but we’ll figure it out.”

“That’s the man I married” Lance said with a contented smile, he gave Keith a kiss on the forehead “Now let’s go, we’re already late.”

Future Voltron Multiverse fic plans

There are many tropes that I love in fanfiction. However one of my favorites is dimension travel, So, I was stoked when VLD introduced the rifts and multiverse...and then I was severally disappointed when they didn't dig into that further. So! I'm doing it myself!!!

The fic will be taking place a year post-canon, but Allura will still be alive, because she deserves a happy ending with her goofy red paladin. Yes, I'm keeping Allurance, I'm giving the ship the chance it deserves, and I don't care what anyone thinks, this is a canon-ship, and I'm tired of Klance trying to snuff out any other possible ships in this fandom. Ships, I will also include will, be Kacxa, Krolia/Keith's Father (I'll be naming him Kenneth in this, as that is what Keith's father was named in other continuties of voltorn), Hunk/shay (minor), Ezor/Zethrid, Shiro/Adam (maybe I'm still working on how to fit in their storyline), Kolivon/Antok (only in flashbacks so far cause Antok is still dead)...and will see what else happens, This is most going to be focusing on the Gen Relationships (AKA Friendships/Family relationships) in the story.

The main plot will be kicked off after two blade agents from another, dying reality end up traveling to the main one. After the fact the two realities, the main one and scrapes of whatever was left of the dying one, merge, destabilizing space. Now rifts to other realites are opening and shutting at random, and letting things from other worlds in, the timeline is shifting, bringing people back form the dead, and sending our heroes to other ones.

Currently I'm planning on three different main travel archs, One to the Voltron Force universe, one to the 80s Voltron universe, and one to a universe where voltron is newly created and the orginal VLD paladins are still in control.

This fic will also include, Blade/Good!Lotor, Keith grows fangs, Humans are f-ing weird, Blade!Acxa, Blade!Ezor, Blade!Zethrid, Krolia has claimed Shiro as her own even if no one else realizes it, BlackPaladin!Keith, Galra head-canons, Trying to understand what the heck is Altean Alchemy, Altean!Vince?, Pidge being a master of Chaos, Good sibling relationships!, Minor/Major OCs, There's going to be a lot of head-canons in this, Coran gets to be a Pop-pop in the epilogue, Awkward as f Zarkon, Mild Themes of Racism towards Half-breeds, The holts take no sh*t from anyone, Voltron teams interacting with their dobblegangers, Garret makes an appearance, the rift creatures will try to kill everyone, Nerdy!Lotor, Pidge, hunk and Lotor are bros, Shenajens and Hijinks, ShortHaired!Allura, Team Voltron sticks together, laughs together, and fights together, Cultural differences, some parts will be funny, some parts are super sad.

Klance Painting Session (G, short little fic)

"Who's idea was this?" Keith spits as he tries to wipe a huge gloop of orange paint off of his face.

He fails and manages to streak his face like he's right out of a David Bowie makeup tutorial. The sight makes Lance laugh under his breath until the sound grows into a howl, hysterical and uncontrollable.

"It's not funny!" Keith retorts, though his voice lacks any venom. "Urgh. I'm going to keep going."

The tears in Lance's eyes are kind of... cute, anyway.

Lance manages to calm down enough to swipe his thumb across his painting. They've laid out finger paints for the sake of couple bonding time, and even though they both had their doubts, the sight of parents and their kids got them thinking.

Keith hasn't missed the way Lance looks longingly at families that they pass by in their little desert town. He remembers how happy Lance looked when Keith brought up adoption. He knows Lance loves him and wants a family with him.

Keith was apprehensive at the very start. He's not sure how well he'd do, since his own family was broken and very literally separated across entire galaxies. He's not sure he's healed his scars enough to take on such a herculean task.

But there's a sparkle in Lance's eye when he holds Keith's gaze that makes him think he's willing to try. The first step, at least, is to not feel like he's going to melt into his shoes every time his beautiful partner so much as looks at him. He's in future-parent-training, and he's determined to (kind of) keep it together.

About an hour later, the two of them are finished with their masterpieces. It only took more flying paint stains and soft, happy kisses to get there.

"What do you think this looks like?" Lance asks with a gigantic grin.

Keith pushes Lance's elbow with a small, gentle motion so that he doesn't dip his whole arm in green paint.

"Water?"

"Exact-a-tactly, my good man," Lance replies. "It's a waterfall. A little bit of a cheat, but it'll look nice and classy in the bathroom."

Keith smiles at the thought and nods. "It looks good, Lance."

He means it, and Lance glows, taking in the praise.

"By the way, what's yours?" Lance asks after a minute. He scoots over to be closer to Keith, and they lean into each other.

Keith flushes and picks at a bit of carpet on the floor. "It's, uh. It's my idea for our future kid's bedroom."

Lance goes quiet, and Keith's nearly ready to apologize when he hears a loud, comical sniffle.

"It's-- It's perfect."

A bit of a different spin on this neocities prompt: Person A and Person B finger painting with their child.

I have an ongoing Maladaptive Daydream storyline for a Klance fic that won’t leave me alone but that I also know I’ll never write, partially because my brain treats it a little like a choose your own adventure story every time I imagine the storyline. But I wanted to write out the bare bones of it so that it doesn’t haunt me constantly.

Basic Background:

Basically takes place in the canon universe, but Krolia was the daughter of Zarkon and Honerva. She secretly joined the resistance and then faked her death when she stayed on Earth to protect the blue lion, then ran off to fully join the Blades full time to avoid alerting her parents that she was still alive. She left Tex and Keith back on Earth where they would hopefully stay undetected from the Galra Empire. Fast forward to the end of canon where they want to put Keith in charge but end up with Krolia as their ruler. Krolia reveals her heritage and history before she agrees to be Empress.

This causes a stir in different political factions and on various other planets with aliens who are still suspicious of the Galra Empire and especially of Zarkon’s family (even though Zarkon and Honerva were corrupted by Quintessence and were not naturally crazy evil warlords).

Keith ends up in his canon role as an Ambassador, traveling around with the Blades and helping to heal the damage done by the Galra Empire as it was under Zarkon and Lotor.

Lance stays on Earth and only ever leaves to meet up with the other paladins on Altea where they have an annual remembrance of Allura. As their lives get busier, fewer of the paladins are able to make it. At the start of the story, Lance and Keith have agreed to meet up on Altea, although the other paladins have either said that they can’t make it or that they will be arriving late.

So this is a time travel fic (because I’m addicted to them. I’ve said this before. I basically have a head-canoned time travel fic for ever fandom I’m in because I’m sort of obsessed with comparing the original characters to their later character growth. I get a little viscerally feral about it. I foam at the mouth for a good, realistic character-growth comparison).

Other background info:

Krolia is in a relationship with Kolivan.

Lance no longer travels space except between Altea and Earth once a year. He’s started to grow insecure about his place with the Paladins—whether he was really ever a hero at all. He hears about Keith traveling as an Ambassador, Pidge working with Alien technology, and Hunk traveling with Shay, and Lance feels overwhelmed—like he’s chosen to stay back and is now being left behind. He knows that Shiro mainly works on Earth with the Garrison, but even that seems miles away from what Lance is doing with his life. He looks at his younger self and wonders where that person went. He’s on a journey, in part, to find himself again.

The story itself:

We follow the story from the perspectives of the early Paladins who have been brought forward in time (whether Allura is there or not has sort of been a shifting element depending on what mood I’m in when I imagine it. That’s part of the whole choose-your-own-adventure thing. Lots of this changes around.) They end up in an underground lab within a sort of maze structure of tunnels. They meet an alien there who begs them for help and says that the Paladins aren’t there to protect them anymore and that he has a plan to bring down the Galra Empire. When the Paladins ask what happened he goes into a speech about how the Paladins were scattered and corrupted and how they would need to stop their future selves. The alien seems particularly interested in Keith based on the way his eyes keep drifting over to him.

Suddenly there are alarms going off in the chaos, the Paladins end up out of sight as the alien goes to check out the chaos. From their hiding spot, the Paladins see/hear Future!Lance. Lance has the alien backed against the wall and is threatening him, asking ‘Where is he?’ The alien is spitting insults at Lance and calling him a ‘Galra-Lover,’ etc. The alien also pokes at Lance for being out of practice, saying he’s not even really a Paladin anymore. He claims that Lance has betrayed the cause.

In the midst of the chaos, the future machine is damaged. Lance finds the younger Paladins and explains to them that Zarkon (and Lotor and Honerva—whom the Paladins don’t really know about yet) have been defeated and that the Galra Empire as they know it has largely been dissolved. The Paladins are a little wary to believe it, but, also, it’s Lance, so they give him the benefit of the doubt. Although they are a little thrown off by his Altean markings. At first they assume this is an alternate universe. Lance tells them it’s not, but hedges around his explanation for how he got the marks.

Lance ends up taking the Paladins with him. He figures the best way to get them home is to rendezvous with Future!Pidge, but Pidge is working on an independent project at the moment and is out of reach. Lance tells them that he’s in the middle of a mission and that he can’t delay it. He’s on his way to Daibazaal for more information and supplies. Reluctantly, the Paladins travel with him. Lance can’t really leave them alone and they want to investigate whether they can really trust Lance.

Upon meeting Krolia at Daibazaal, the young Paladins learn about Lance’s mission. Apparently the Galran Prince (*cough cough* Keith *cough cough* —but they don’t know that yet) and his party were attacked and drugged by a radical political faction—the same one that brought the Paladins forward in time. The group drugged the diplomatic meeting in an attempt to capture and kill the Galrans, but they were interrupted by a Second radical political faction. The second faction abducted the Prince before the First faction could enact the rest of their plan, and, in the chaos of the clashing political groups, the rest of the Galran diplomacy team escaped alive and relatively unharmed.

So the Paladins now understand that the people who brought them forward in time are part of a group intent on the destruction of the remainder of the Galran Empire and the death of the royal family. This is why Lance was there when they arrived in the future: to question the political faction. This is also why the alien that Lance questioned was so particularly bitter: because the plan he’d carefully lain out to capture the Prince had gone sideways. (Lance of course knows that the First radical faction brought the paladins forward in time in order to get a hold of Keith specifically and to turn the younger Paladins against their older selves. He does not share this information with the Paladins.)

What the Paladins don’t understand is why Lance is involved with this at all. They’ve been told that the Paladins are scattered and that Voltron no longer exists. But there are a lot of things they don’t know (that Altea exists again, why the Galra empire still exists at all, who the Blades are, etc. etc. etc.). They don’t trust Krolia, especially after discovering that Zarkon is her father, but they see that she and Lance get along well. While eavesdropping, the Paladins also catch a conversation between Krolia and Lance that seems to indicate that Lance has romantic interest in Krolia’s son (Krolia invites him to visit again and tells Lance that her son misses him and that she knows it would make him happy to have Lance there more often).

Krolia is especially kind to Keith, but she doesn’t tell him who she is. The cooks in the kitchens make food they know he’ll like, the guards direct him towards the training space they know he’ll appreciate, someone alludes to the art studio (although he does not have time to check it out properly). And Kosmo shows up and sticks to Keith like velcro.

Lance and the Paladins spend the afternoon and the night on Daibazaal before packing up to go the next morning. Lance has been in meetings getting information on the radical group and their possible location from the Blades. Krolia can’t leave Daibazaal during a time of crisis, but Kolivan is in communication with various sectors where members of the Blade are investigating leads. Lance agrees to follow up on one of the leads that has not yet been covered. He warns the Paladins to be careful. Apparently this Secondary radical group is a religious cult derived from Hagar’s Druids that worships Honerva and believes that she can be summoned so that she can return as their ruler. (They’d like to use Keith to try and reach her since he’s her grandchild and because of his powerful quintessence as a result of his time spent with Voltron and his mixing of human, Altean, and Galran blood.)

When they get to the sector in question, Lance and the Paladins find a massive ship. Lance sneaks onboard, instructing the Paladins to stay behind and wait for him. The Paladins of course do not listen. When the Paladins sneak on board, they find the ship largely deserted, but they walk themselves right into a hallway where the remaining members of the cult are preparing to make their final stand. From the shadows, a cloaked figure drops down, startling the Paladins and causing an uproar from the cultists. The Cloaked Figure grabs the dagger from younger Keith’s sheath and slides into battle. Keith shouts out in frustration that his knife has been stollen, but watches in confusion and awe as the dagger transforms into a sword. Shiro asks why Keith has that dagger and where he got it from, but they are all distracted by the Cloaked figure who is fending off the cultists.

Future!Lance turns the corner and begins to berate the Paladins for not listening to him and staying on the ship. Then he notices the Cloaked Figure. Lance pulls out a rifle and begins firing, shooting the enemies that are in the fighter’s blind spot. As the last of the enemy falls, the Fighter’s hood is pulled back and he turns to face them. It’s Future!Keith. Future!Lance goes up to meet him and Keith looks initially surprised. Lance comments that he ‘should have know’ when he ‘found the cells empty.’

If Keith is surprised to see the younger Paladins, he hides it well. He seems more shocked to see Lance, but grateful. They fall into an easy banter that surprises the younger Paladins by its friendliness. Shiro interrupts to explain to Keith that they’re looking for the Galran Prince. Lance tells them not to worry about it anymore. The Paladins find this odd, especially considering the conversation they overheard earlier where Krolia indicated that Lance had a crush on the Galran Prince. They also want to know why Keith is there. Lance tells them that Keith is an Ambassador who was traveling with the Galrans when the attack happened. Lance makes up an excuse for why they don’t have to go find the prince (in spite of Shiro’s protestations that they have a duty and that they made Krolia a promise), asking Keith if he’s stuck here because the Prince stole his ride. Keith sort of side-eyes Lance but easily falls in line with the ploy and says that yes, the Prince is fine and has a ride out. Lance gives Keith his actual knife (which Krolia had given to Lance earlier), and Future!Keith returns his knife to his younger self.

Together they all make their way back to the ship. They alert the Blades about the enemy cultists and their location. Lance asks younger Keith to fly them out of there and has younger Lance grab the first aid kit to he can patch up Future!Keith.

At some point there’s a meaningful conversation between Keith and Lance about how Keith is surprised to see him because Lance never leaves Earth except to visit Altea. Lance explains that Keith was late to their meeting on Altea and how Lance was at first upset to be ditched by all the other Paladins but came to the conclusion that Keith wouldn’t do that to him. He got into contact with some of the Blades and found out what happened and set out to gain some more intel for Kolivan and try and find Keith.

(Lance and Keith both like each other, but Lance is intimidated by the new life that Keith has built without him, and Keith is worried about whether Lance actually likes him / is over Allura.)

Here’s where I have a lot of divergence:

In some versions, Allura is there with them. She stays back on the ship while the Paladins sneak into the base. Allura refuses to let them back onboard until she realizes that it’s ‘just Keith’ who’s with them.

In some versions, before returning to Daibazaal, the Paladins, Lance, and Keith end up stopping for supplies or answering distress beacons. In some of these situations, they run into other members of the Blade (the one I replay most is running into Antok and his family so that there are cute little Galra kids interacting with ‘uncle Keith’ and close slip ups where the Paladins almost figure out that Keith is the Galran Prince. Most of it is explained away as Keith just being an important Ambassador who’s regularly on Daibazaal).

In some versions where they make pit stops, they run into more members of the radical groups or into hostile Galrans who are against the new rule. At some point, Keith’s eyes go yellow and his fangs come out and the Paladins have their little ‘aha’ moment.

Sometimes I have the Paladins just put two and two together—usually Pidge saying ‘what if we were Always going there to pick up Keith?’ And then younger Lance being in denial and being like ‘you mean, we were never there for the Prince?’ To which the answer is ‘No. what if Keith is the prince.’ Plus all the evidence.

Also scenes of Pidge using technology so the Paladins can spy on Lance and Keith while they’re talking alone to try and figure out whether their future selves are still trustworthy.

A scene where Keith and Lance talk about not advertising the fact that the cultists have been defeated so that they can fly under the radar back to Daibazaal.

A scene where the younger Paladins mention that Lance is totally in love with the Galran Prince in front of Keith and use Krolia’s conversation for reference. They talk about it because younger Lance is trying to puzzle out why his older self would travel all that way to rescue a guy and then would just ditch him to hang out with —ugh—Keith of all people. Cue a necessary conversation between Keith and Lance where they continue to be stupid because they’re both Still hedging around the issue.

The scene where they return to Daibazaal and Krolia hugs Keith and he calls her mom. And then Krolia insists that Lance join the hug as well. And, if the Paladins (or maybe just younger Lance) are still oblivious to Keith’s identity, you see their reactions as well.

Kosmo appearing to tackle Keith. Kolivan showing up as well. Lil Galra kids who Keith has gotten to know from his time on Daibazaal and random guards and Galrans in general being happy that he’s home safe. Members of the Blade who were there when he got captured being there and glad for his return.

Keith showing Lance the paintings and murals he’s done to remind him of Earth (because I’m a sucker for artist Keith). Cue another conversation about Keith not visiting Lance on Earth more because Keith thought Lance needed space. Also Lance being upset that Shiro didn’t come to help Keith even though they’re brothers when Lance knows for a fact that Keith would move heaven and Earth to help Shiro in the same situation (I headcannon that Shiro is really just worn out at this point and that while he cares for Keith it has grown to more of a distant brotherly respect at this point—that Shiro is very practical and figured that the Blades could handle it, while Lance tends to emotionally invest himself and not want to risk the chance that someone else Won’t take care of it).

Any potential drama from a plotline that involves Allura / Lance coming to full terms that he’s not in love with her anymore / Lance trying to separate the version of Allura that he wants to remember from the young version of Allura that is currently hostile and racist towards the concept of the Galran Prince and therefore (unbeknownst to her) Keith, whom Lance is in love with. Allura having the hardest time coming to terms with the new Galra empire and the fact that Krolia is half Altean and that Keith is just as Altean as he is Galran. Young Lance struggling between Allura’s strong feelings about the Galra and the knowledge that his future self is in love with the Galran Prince. And gets along with Keith. Who, surprise surprise, happens to be the Galran Prince.

I’m sure there’s more. My brain is somehow too invested in this plotline and also not invested enough to make it cohesive.

As for tropes I really love, had many ideas for, but haven’t written yet are all soulmate tropes. I say it a lot that they’re one of my favourites.

🍑 If you could make a connection between your favorite character and another work you care about (whether a crossover/fusion or a wonderfully “pretentious” literary reference) what would it be? How would it work? 

Well so I already talked about the PR AU, because I totally see the BC characters in it. (Hopefully we’ll post the second chapter soon ^^). Asta and Yuno being in the same jeager, Fuego and noel as well.

🍇 Is there a particular scene/episode/book/etc that you want to just write a million fics about, over and over? Which one?

I think that I would like to write millions fics in the soulmate AU trope used in The Marks we Make, where a person writes or draws something on their skin and it appears on their soulmates’ skin in the same spot and opens a bit of a soul connection. Watch me write something for this trope in the future. I actually have an idea (for this and couple other soulmate tropes), but I have too many open WIPs. 

Overall I love the tropes that @wittyy-name chose in their fanfics. I am a big fan of their work and their fics continue to be one of the best ones I've ever read 💕

However a specific scene… maybe what if’s for the Silva family if fight with Kivin went the wrong way, but multiple versions, for example one where one of the siblings dies or something. Pretty angsty, but I can’t really come up with anything better for now.

This sounds like a goodbye, I promise it isn’t. It’s just me vomiting a lot of my feelings because I can’t hold it in anymore.

I was going to wait until the last season came out to write this, but I’ve been going through some funky mental things recently and I felt like now would be a nice time for a lil shoutout to all of you. A couple of years ago, I was a bit of a bigger mess than I am now. I mean, I’m still very much a mess, but a couple of years ago it was a lotttt worse. I have spent most of my life reading fanfiction tbh, in all different fandoms. Like, I started really young, and I loved it so much. It was so normal to me that I didn’t even know it was something other people considered “weird” or “nerdy” or “freaky” until I started talking about it in my daily life and seeing people’s reactions. 

Reading fanfiction made me discover so many things about writing. About my feelings, and my sexuality, and what I find beautiful in the world. It was kind of like my own version of a coming-of-age story. 

Writing fanfiction has been a whole new level to all of those things. 

When I started writing Drummer Boy it was honestly a shot in the dark. I had no idea what the fuck I was doing, or why I was even doing it. I felt dumb. But i just knew that whenever I sat down to write any of that shit, the rest of my life felt like it was melting away. And for someone with crippling anxiety and self doubt, that was a beautiful feeling. If you asked me why I actually posted it, I honestly don’t know. I knew nobody would read it. I knew that it was stupid and nobody would like it, but yet I posted it anyway and I have no idea why. It just felt like...it was time, I guess. It felt right. The first comment I ever got literally blew me away. I still remember it, word for word. I was so fucking excited, you guys. 

I’m so glad that I posted that first, mediocre-at-best chapter because....you guys this has been amazing. Like you don’t get it. I mean, you do, but you really don’t. I never ever imagined myself a writer. In fact, I always thought the opposite. I always thought I was horrible with words. With cohesive stories. Whenever I would tell stories to my friends, I felt like a dumb oaf, like I was too loud and tripped over my words and wasn’t intelligent or funny. How the hell could I be a writer if I couldn’t even tell a story without getting nervous? 

It’s sappy, but writing these stories has opened up a whole new world for me. It has made me question everything I have ever previously thought about myself. Because I see myself as a storyteller now. I see myself as someone eloquent. Someone who speaks with purpose. I see myself as someone with imagination and drive, and I’ve never, ever felt that way about myself before. It has made me question everything I previously planned on doing with my life. Really, it has made me want to create more. To make people feel things. To connect to people emotionally, make them realize that we’re all the same, and nobody is as alone as they feel, and everything is actually going to be okay, no matter how horrible it seems. 

I loved the characters in voltron enough to take a chance on them, and I don’t regret it at all. The show may not be as stellar as we all hoped, but I will never ever stop loving it, because of what it gave me. 

And to all of you--your messages, comments, kudos’, and kindness...you have been the most supportive community I have ever come into contact with. The fact that you take the time to tell me you liked the story. The fact that you come to me with your own stories, your own traumas, and your own feelings. I can’t believe that I have been given the privilege to reach so many readers, and make them feel a little less alone with their mental illness, or their sexuality, or their sick parents or rough past. It has been, and will continue to be, such a blessing to start these conversations with you. You have taught me so so much. This all has. and you are so supremely loving, kindhearted, and supportive. Thank you all from the bottom of my heart for everything everything everything.

5. “I’m going to take care of you, okay?” // Klance

Keith’s snores are almost like a background melody for his singing and Lance’s not sure if to be amused or annoyed.

He’s in love with the man so he goes with the ‘amused’ path.

Lance still rolls his eyes in mock exasperation, though, his singing continuing without missing a word and he smiles softly when the newborn in his arms coos at him.

It’s been forty-seven hours since they got the call, seventeen hours since they brought their son home, six hours since every relative and friend left their apartment and an hour since Keith finally passed out from exhaustion.

Wild weekend, indeed.

“It’s a little scary, you know?” Lance says quietly after the song, still rocking his son gently in his arms around the room, “Loving someone so deeply, instantly knowing that you would give up anything at any given time just to make sure they are happy.”

His son coos back at him and Lance continues. “Yeah, you have quite the honor, mister, it took your daddy almost two years for me to see past that mullet of his, but you? Oh, son, I would give up my life for you in a split of a second.”

Lance shushes the baby softly when it squirms uneasy. “Hey now, it’s okay, it’s okay, that doesn’t mean I won’t be here. I will, sunshine, believe me. I know it’s scary to grow up and face the world but -”

Lance pauses, stealing a quick glance behind him, eyes staring fondly at Keith’s sleeping figure on their bed and any fear or insecurity inside him vanishes instantly.

“Don’t worry, sunshine, your daddy and I will be with you every step on the way,” Lance whispers softly, nose rubbing against the baby’s head, chuckling when Keith’s snores appear just in time, “Alright, so daddy is sleeping right now, because he doesn’t believe me that coffee makes you crash and burn at some point but no worries, you know why?”

His son gurgles, a small yawn interrupting his own gibberish and Lance nods at him. “Yeah, because I’m going to take care of you, okay? Daddy too, when he finally can rejoin society like an actual human being who doesn’t sustain themselves with only coffee. We will see, for now, how about another song?”

His son blinks tiredly, dark green eyes disappearing after every slow blink and Lance takes it as an answer.

“Alright, any requests? Wonderland, you say? Son, your destiny as a meme lord is just starting.”

That sure is enough to wake Keith up in alarm.

There's lots of different friendships in both, but they both have romantic klance. The Spider-Man au is more fluff than angst, though there is quite a bit of that, and the military au is the opposite. Plenty of angst with some fluff. There's also a Klance Anastasia au that I'm working on right now that'll be posted at some point this week (hopefully)

On another note, I'd like to rec one of my all-time favorite klance fics. Idk if it's already been done on this blog, but I highly recommend Surviving Space With Your Ex Fiance. It's basically a voltron fix-it rewrite where Adam was with the main cast from the very beginning. Technically, adashi is the main focus of the series, but there's enough klance moments that I personally consider it a Klance fic as well, which is why I'm reccing it. It's been very fun watching their relationship develop. Adam's characterization is probably the best I've ever read in a VLD fic, and he ships klance as much as the readers do 😂😂 but the writing is GORGEOUS, there's lots of family bonding between the whole space fam, and Adam is frickin hilarious. I can't even count the number of times I've snort-laughed over his sass

483. A new Fair Game HC...that’s got a NIECE sound to it, doesn’t it?

It’s time for another Fair Game Wedding HC!!!!

So, we’ve gone over a lot of Wedding HCs in this series, haven’t we? We did the proposals, the best men, getting permission from the families, the officiant, the venue, the rings, the flowers, both bachelor parties, AND the cake! 

WOW! Not to toot my own horn, but when you look at that list, I’ve been pretty freakin’ comprehensive with the Wedding HCs! And spoiler alert: I’m not even done yet. 

But that’s to be discussed at another time! Tonight, we’re gonna talk about Ruby and Yang’s roles in the wedding. After all, Qrow and Clover wouldn’t NOT involve their favorite young ladies in the festivities.

What are they going to do? I am SO glad I’m pretending that you asked!

Originally, I was going to make Ruby the flower girl and Yang the ring bearer. After all, even though those are roles made for younger children, there aren’t any little kids in the extended cast and both Ruby and Yang would fit the roles nicely.

However, literally as I was writing the opening to the HC, I had a better idea, one that made a ton more sense to me.

Now, a wedding can make do without a flower girl as well as a ring bearer. 

But every good wedding has the spouses walked down the aisle and being given away to each other.

We don’t know anything about Qrow and Clover’s parents and I don’t think I’m alone in HCing their individual parents as dead by the time they meet in the series. And with their closest friends acting as their Best Men, they don’t really have anyone to give them away.

And that’s where Ruby and Yang come in!

Qrow and Clover approach their nieces together, inviting them out for a meal so they can ask them. I have this vision in my head of them cooly switching off sentences as they build towards the ultimate question before finally Clover asks them, with Qrow supplying a “so what do you say” afterwards.

Obviously, Ruby and Yang love the idea and immediately accept the offer. They’re so excited to do it! Yang, jovially smirking, remarks that “it’s about time we get to do something for the wedding.”

Qrow and Clover leave it up to the two of them to see who wants to walk who down the aisle. Clover feels a little bad about that since both Ruby and Yang have such a strong relationship with their Uncle Qrow. He knows they love him too, but they’ve known Qrow for their whole lives and him for only a few years by comparison. It hurts him to think that one of them is going to have to give up walking Qrow down the aisle to walk him down instead.

However, neither niece feels that way. To the two of them, no matter which uncle they accompany down the aisle, they’re playing a part in expanding their family and bringing both of their uncles happiness. Clover eventually gets that through his head, but the lesson still has to be learned nonetheless.

Ultimately, Ruby ends up walking Qrow down the aisle and Yang ends up accompanying Clover. I liked this for a couple of reasons, though it was honestly a tough decision because Yang and Qrow haven’t gotten a lot of screen time together lately and they should.

However, what charms me about the main family dynamic of the series is their unconventionality and an honorary niece taking her honorary uncle down a wedding aisle and giving him away to his husband is about as unconventional as unconventional gets. And Yang, who believes so heavily in the strength of family, whatever form that family takes (as well as the difference between good family and bad family), inviting a new and beloved member into their family in the more direct, explicit way possible has so much meaning (Also, if you don’t like this decision, blame @drbtinglecannon for making an amazing Clover and Yang bonding fic that stole my heart).

Hiya I'm sorta new to the fandom (i mean, compared to like. Everyone else who were there during the many stages of fan incidents during voltrons rise and fall it seems. I actually voluntarily watched the show last year thinking people shipped klance so hard it's gotta be canon, etc etc) and I'd read dirty laundry seeing ppl talk about it (theres a copy on w*ttp*d) and i genuinely didnt realize it was homophobic and racist and ableist? Like i know the family was homophobic but i didnt know making lance's fam homophobic was seen as racist, and like how that ied into the fandom trend of making his fam like that (which i havent seen much in recent fics). So i just wanted to thank you for posting about it so that i could revise my views and decidedly delete it from my memory starting now. Also this is probably just talking too much but I'm not white, im south asian, and i didn't have any white people around me growing up in india so i didnt really face racism much, so i think people like me have a hard time realizing certain things are racist, too. Sorry for the long ask

hi anon sorry i’m answering this late! i got it on my birthday and so i didn’t answer it then and then people were sending anons that would’ve made this inappropriate to post at the time so i’m finally getting around to it. i really appreciate this message and it makes me happy :’) i should note im absolutely not the first person to say that dirty laundry is bad, poc in the fandom have been for a while, but i’m glad u could see it and understand it in a way you hadn’t before!

i also feel like i should apologize because i know i said that people who still enjoy dirty laundry as a fic are generally white, but reading this message made me realize what an americanized view that was—i wasn’t thinking beyond my country and what it means to be aware of race in america, which is far different from other countries! so i’m sorry for that and i’ll keep it in mind in the future as a good reason to think beyond america when i’m thinking about fandom. so thank you for helping me realize that and learn!!
