GUBAT BANWA: THE RAJANATE OF GATUSAN
Tumblr media
WARRIORS. POETS. SPIRITUALISTS. The Hundred Island Rajanate—a league of allied polities all pledging to PONONG RAJA (Head King) BATARA AMBASI as their leader. Those that have settled in communities tremble when they near, their agung resounding and their war drums reverberating. SEIZE HEAVEN’S THUNDERCLAPS: GATUSAN!
Tumblr media
The Gatusan Rajanate is inspired by Hindu-Buddhist Maritime Kingdoms of Southeast Asia (Srivijaya, Majapahit, Singhasari, Champa), as well as the ancient Pintados that still cling to life to this day.
Tumblr media
This includes the raiding cultures of pre-colonial Sugbu (ruled by Raja Humabon), Bo-ol, Buglas, Opon, Samar, Leyte, Butuan, and much more. Clad in heavy bahag and cuirasses (sometimes elephant hide, other times shark skin, often hardwood), wielding aggressive kalasag and spears (bangkaw), kings wield grand kampilans and sail on sea-splitting warships (karakoa) and merchant ships to scour the seas!
Tumblr media
They are a people of ritual and signs—an azure bird flying across their path in the wrong direction is a bad omen. Before going on raids, they perform divinations and offerings to their gods. Their kings, their rajas, exude charisma, filled with spiritual power, emblazoned with it through their tattoos, which signify their achievements are true. Many Kings are feared like gods—many kings have access to superior occult power.
Tumblr media
The greatest polity, the center of mandala power, Kangdaya, is pierced through with influences from outside the Sword Isles and from the far Sword Isles. They have palaces and grand stupas, they have a thousand buddhas and gods that they worship, localized from foreign merchants.
Tumblr media
They worship Jamiyun Kulisa the great Sky God, and Rajaraya Pintas the Ancestor, though they have an extensive pantheon of their own, with gods so numerous it would be sacrilegious to name them all in a list.
Tumblr media
Their religion is skewered with ritual—they mummify and fumigate their dead in an act of worship, they perform long rituals to accrue merit and fortune so that their days are better, praying to both gods and saints—they’re the same in power and intercession, after all.
Tumblr media
Gatusan Disciplines tend to be focused on dealing damage and opening up enemies. To that end, here are the five martial Disciplines you can learn and take on as Kadungganan in the Core Rulebook!
Tumblr media
BUWAYA LANCER. The grand sentinels of the ancestor god, who have the ability to evolve their crocodile mounts into grand makara! Mechanically they are focused on creating a “Lair”—everything adjacent to them cannot escape. Their techniques let you carry another across the battlefield, activate an opportunity attack stance, perform a violent death roll, and destroy the land around you.
Tumblr media
KAWAL. The quintessential sentinel. They have the ability to rush after an ally that moves while adjacent to them, and they get access to an opportunity attack. Both Buwaya Lancers and Kawal get to Opportunity Attack, exemplifying the raiding Violence of Gatusan. Their Techniques focus on building Block, generating Taunt, taking on vigilant stances, and destroying things with great hammers.
Tumblr media
MANGANGAYAW. The quintessential raider that wants to attack, attack attack. They are stance dancers and can take on a powerful Stance that augments their attacks, and can ignore Combo Breaker when flanking a fighter. Their techniques let them unleash multiple attacks, counter attack, increase their damage, and store Hits.
Tumblr media
SWORD POET. Tricky sentinels that intermingle sword and song together to confuse enemies and taunt them with hilarious sung poetry. Their Techniques involve them singing grand war songs: healing allies, confusing and debilitating enemies, and even give up a beat to manipulate the Rhythm!
Tumblr media
WARRIOR BALYAN. Quintessential Mediums who dance with stances (reflecting their trance state when possessed by the gods) as well as channel gods into the battlefield, letting them possess allies so they may partake in xenoglossy. Their techniques let them purify allies, augment their allies’ attacks, change the weather, and channeling the star goddess of dawn.
That’s just a small bite of what we have in store for you! Back us now and help us reach our full potential!

NATIONAL NEWS: PAGASA faces near potential legal claims of Name Infringement over Amphibia's Marcy Wu of Disney Television Animation [#FirstOnOneNETnews]
Tumblr media
SALCEDO, EASTERN SAMAR -- On Monday (November 4th, 2024 -- Leyte local time)… Typhoon Marce, known internationally as Yinxing, intensified into a severe tropical storm as it entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR). According to state weather bureau 'Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration' (PAGASA). Marce was located 590 kilometers east of 'Virac, Catanduanes' with maximum sustained winds of 100 kilometers per hour (kph) and gustiness of up to 125kph.
PAGASA enhanced to Signal #1 in parts of Northern Luzon, indicating that these areas should prepare for strong winds. On the following day, Marce continued to intensify becoming a typhoon, as it drenched Cagayan, Batanes, Apayao and Ilocos Norte with moderate to heavy rains. The southeastern portion of Negros Oriental and Dumaguete City were placed under the effect of moderate to heavy rains and thunderstorms by the latest Thunderstorm Advisory #9 on November 5th. Flooding and landslides were reported in these areas.
'Marcy Regina Wu' is a Taiwanese-American majoring originally from California State and recently moved to Massachusetts in 2029. She is specifically famous for her character 'Marcy Wu' in the American cartoon show "Amphibia". The said female protagonist character is an adventurous, kind-hearted heroine who always helps her friends.
Before, 'King Andrias Leviathan' previously backstab in the chest with his sword, drawing her defeat at the end of Season 2 finale on late-May 2021, within minutes to commit murder of shocking betrayal in Newtopia castle. The story progress in history, when she came under the control of 'The Core' and 'Darcy Wu' after her temporal death. The final 3rd season relates up to graduation, after King Andrias' invasion ended in Los Angeles. Marcy's own adventure and trials are found in "Marcy's Journal" which is available everywhere sold or being borrowed in your local libraries.
This week, Disney Television Animation (DTVA) has initiated legal proceedings against PAGASA, alleging that they have stolen the name "Marcy" for Typhoon Marce. The American animation of Disney argues that the use of "Marcy" in a weather context, despite the show's finale, infringes on their intellectual property rights. Thus far, PAGASA has not made any official statement on our news team.
As this issue continues to evolve, whether or not a settlement can actually be reached, or only makes things worse between the two (2) parties is still in the balance.

The Unique Eagles of the Philippines: Majestic Raptors of the Archipelago
The Philippines, an archipelago of over 7,000 islands, is home to a diverse range of wildlife. Among its most iconic and awe-inspiring inhabitants are its eagles—particularly the Philippine Eagle, which stands out as one of the most unique and endangered eagles in the world. Eagles are often seen as symbols of power, freedom, and resilience, and the eagles of the Philippines are no exception. Here, we'll dive into what makes these birds so special and the efforts being made to protect them.
The Philippine Eagle: The King of Philippine Raptors
Tumblr media
The Philippine Eagle (*Pithecophaga jefferyi*), also known as the "Monkey-Eating Eagle" ,is the most famous of the Philippine eagles and perhaps the most unique. It is not only the "national bird" of the Philippines, but also one of the largest and rarest eagles in the world.
Physical Characteristics
Standing at around 3 feet tall with a wingspan that can reach 7 feet, the Philippine Eagle is an imposing bird. Its striking appearance includes a crown of brown and white feathers, a large, hooked beak, and piercing blue eyes. The feathers on its head often form a distinctive crest, giving it a regal and fierce look. The eagle’s powerful talons are designed to grasp and tear through prey with ease, making it one of the top predators in the Philippine forests.
Habitat and Diet
The Philippine Eagle resides in the tropical rainforests of four major Philippine islands: Luzon, Leyte, Samar, and Mindanao. Due to deforestation, their habitats have dwindled, leaving them critically endangered. They prefer dense forests where they can hunt for food, which primarily includes small mammals, birds, and reptiles. Despite its name, the "Monkey-Eating Eagle," it does not exclusively feed on monkeys. Their diet is diverse and adaptable, often depending on the available prey in their territory.
Other Eagles of the Philippines
While the Philippine Eagle garners most of the attention, the country is also home to other fascinating eagle species, such as:
The Crested Serpent Eagle (*Spilornis cheela*)
Tumblr media
The Crested Serpent Eagle is known for its distinctive call and its preference for hunting reptiles, particularly snakes. It can be found across Southeast Asia, but the subspecies found in the Philippines, *Spilornis cheela holospilus*, is a unique variant. This bird is smaller than the Philippine Eagle, with a dark brown body, a yellow face, and a short crest.
Unlike the Philippine Eagle, the Crested Serpent Eagle thrives in a variety of habitats, from lowland forests to more open areas, making it less vulnerable to habitat loss. Its adaptability has allowed it to maintain stable populations in contrast to its more endangered cousin.
The Pinsker's Hawk-Eagle (*Nisaetus pinskeri*)
Tumblr media
Another raptor endemic to the Philippines is Pinsker’s Hawk-Eagle, also known as the Mindanao Hawk-Eagle. This bird is smaller than the Philippine Eagle but shares similar habitats, preferring the dense forests of Mindanao and nearby islands. Its striking plumage, with a mix of brown, white, and black, along with its swift flight and agility, makes it a formidable hunter of small mammals and birds.
Pinsker's Hawk-Eagle, like the Philippine Eagle, is also classified as endangered due to habitat loss and hunting. However, it receives less attention and conservation efforts compared to the national bird.
Conservation Efforts: Saving the Eagles of the Philippines
The Philippine Eagle Foundation (PEF) plays a crucial role in the conservation of these majestic birds, particularly the Philippine Eagle. Established in the 1980s, the foundation focuses on habitat preservation, captive breeding, and community education programs. Breeding these eagles in captivity is challenging due to their slow reproductive rates—they only lay one egg every two years, and raising a chick to adulthood takes considerable time and resources.
Other conservation groups work to protect smaller eagle species like the Crested Serpent Eagle and Pinsker's Hawk-Eagle, but much of the focus remains on the Philippine Eagle, which has come to symbolize the country’s broader struggle to conserve its unique biodiversity.
Government efforts and international collaborations are also key, with environmental laws aimed at protecting endangered species and their habitats. However, illegal logging, mining, and urbanization continue to threaten the forests these eagles call home.
Why Protecting Eagles Matters
The eagles of the Philippines are not just top predators; they are keystone species in their ecosystems. By maintaining a healthy eagle population, the entire forest ecosystem benefits. These raptors control populations of smaller animals, preventing overgrazing and maintaining the balance of flora and fauna. When we lose eagles, we also risk losing the biodiversity of the forests they inhabit.
Moreover, eagles are culturally significant to many indigenous groups in the Philippines. For these communities, eagles symbolize freedom, courage, and spiritual power. The loss of these birds would not only represent an environmental tragedy but a cultural one as well.
Conclusion: A Symbol of Hope and Survival
The eagles of the Philippines, particularly the Philippine Eagle, are enduring symbols of the country's natural beauty and ecological richness. However, they are also reminders of the environmental challenges the country faces. Through conservation efforts, public education, and a commitment to preserving their habitats, there is hope that future generations will continue to witness these majestic eagles soaring through the Philippine skies. Protecting these raptors is not just about saving a species—it’s about preserving the natural heritage of the Philippines for generations to come.

THE NAME PHILIPPINES, WHY NOT OPHIR? May 15, 2026
The Biblical land of “OPHIR” was the dwelling of the sons of Joktan, namely, Havilah and Ophir, who were the descendants of Shem.
GENESIS 10:22, 24-26, 28-30
(22) The children of SHEM; Elam, and Asshur, and ARPHAXAD…
(24) And ARPHAXAD begat Salah; and Salah begat EBER.
(25) And unto EBER were born two sons: the name of one was Peleg… and his brother's name was JOKTAN.
(26) And JOKTAN begat Almodad, and Sheleph…
(29) And OPHIR, and HAVILAH, and Jobab: all these were the sons of Joktan.
(30) And their DWELLING was from Mesha, as thou goest unto Sephar a mount of the EAST.
The land of Ophir was situated in Sephar, a mount of the East.
ISAIAH 46:10, 11
(10) DECLARING the END from the BEGINNING, and from ancient times the things that are not yet done…
(11) Calling a ravenous bird from the EAST, the man that executeth my counsel from a FAR COUNTRY…
According to the World Atlas, the Philippines is classified as a far-eastern country in Asia.
The ColecciĂłn General de Documentos Relativos a las Islas Filipinas, which was compiled by Spanish colonial administrators, is one of the strongest evidence that Ophir is the Philippines.
This document provides precise directions on how to reach the ancient continent.
In “Document No. 98 (1519-1522),” the book says that Ophir can be found “by traveling from the Cape of Good Hope in Africa, to India, to Burma, to Sumatra, to Moluccas, to Borneo, to Sulu, to China, then finally Ophir facing the Pacific Ocean in front of China.”
Biblically, God used to change the names of His people as He established His covenant upon them (Isaiah 65:14, 15).
Among them are Israel, who was originally known as Jacob (Genesis 32:28), Sarai, who became Sarah (Genesis 17:15), Abram, who became Abraham (Genesis 17:1-5), and Paul, who was formerly called Saul (Acts 13:9).
The Philippine archipelago was aforetime named “Las Islas Filipinas” upon the rediscovery of the kingdoms of Samar and Leyte by a Spanish explorer, Ruy López de Villalobos.
Moreover, the name “Philippines” was in honor of King Philip II of Spain.
The Philippines' previous country code was "PHI," which was then changed to "PHL" in 1976.
Therefore, the word “OPHIR” is a prophetic acronym, which stands for the “REPUBLIC OF THE PHILIPPINES.”
The prophecies in the scripture have always had corresponding fulfillment, which confirms the veracity of God’s words.
LUKE 24:44 …all things must be FULFILLED, which were WRITTEN in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms, CONCERNING ME.
JOHN 13:19 Now I tell you before it come, that, when it is COME TO PASS, ye may believe that I am he.
Hereby, the name “Republic of the Philippines” can never be altered to any other name, for it is the fulfillment of the prophetic name “OPHIR.”
DANIEL 4:35 …and he doeth according to his will… and NONE can STAY his HAND, or say unto him, WHAT DOEST THOU?
ISAIAH 14:27 For the LORD of hosts hath PURPOSED, and who shall DISANNUL it … and who shall TURN IT BACK?
Historically, Ferdinand Magellan led a Spanish expedition to the East Indies on March 16, 1521, during which he rediscovered the Philippines.
MARCH (3rd month) 16, 1521
3 x 16 x 15 x 3 = 2160
3 + 1 + 6 + 1 + 5 + 2 + 1 = 19 (1 + 9 = 10)
216(0) + 10 = 2260
A flipped figure of 2026, the exact year of Christ’s return.
MARK 1:15 The TIME IS FULFILLED, and the kingdom of God is at hand: REPENT ye, and BELIEVE the gospel.
TO GOD BE THE GLORY!

The first five-star admirals were Admirals Leahy, King, and Nimitz. Bill Halsey got his fifth star in December, 1945.
Did he actually do anything to deserve that fifth star, other than having a crackerjack public relations team?
I think it's fair to say that the Allies racked up some big victories in the South Pacific and Philippines under Halsey's command. Leyte Gulf alone was a massive battle and really important for the Allies. But I'm not an expert on naval warfare or the Pacific Theater, so there are much better people to ask about that than me.

Note
So I have read in a few WWII novels that Japan produced some of the best aircraft pilots. But that the problem was their training was so intense and painstaking that quantity was sacrificed for quality. When the pacific war began to heat up, that Japan was unable to replace the pilots that they lost, which resulted them in putting less honed pilots in the air. Was this true and was this a factor in their losing the war?
Japan did have a skill shortage of aviation, but not for that reason. One of the key differences between American pilots and Japanese pilots is that Americans rotated their pilots back home to train new ones, while the most exceptional and accomplished Japanese pilots would continue the fight. During the Solomon Islands campaign, Japan lost a very high number of their best pilots. Without skilled instructors to replace them, skill gain was slow-going, and Allied momentum meant that the Japanese Armed Forces required pilots to fly missions before they were ready. This culminated in the Battle of the Philippine Sea, known in American parlance as "The Great Marinas Turkey Shoot" because the poorly-trained Japanese pilots were shot down. The Japanese took an over 4:1 casualty ratio in pilots, and this decisively destroyed IJN naval aviation power. By the Battle of Leyte Gulf, the carriers were almost worthless for power projection because Japan lacked both pilots and planes, and so they were used for the last thing that they were good for...bait.
Thanks for the question, Anon.

Has there been any media specifically catered to sentient vehicles in your universe?
Yes
In the early days of films, many silent movies featured locomotives as leading and supporting actors - Buster Keaton’s film The General launched several engines into stardom, and Charlie Chaplin once considered going into the railroad business after he filmed three films back-to-back-to-back on the same California short line.
The isolated nature of mountain railroading has often been used as a backdrop for both thriller and horror movies, and many locomotives have found modest or large stardom as a result.
While most movies featuring sentient vehicles are intended for mass markets, the rise of affordable film equipment in the 1970′s and onwards led to the rise of independent films made by trains, ships, and airplanes for trains, ships, and airplanes. While these films could be considered to be part of [insert minority here]-ploitation genre that was common at that time, many of these films were actually very well done, including the 1979 Oscar-nominated war film Trijet Sunrise.
Most war movies have also been aimed at the sentient vehicle demographic, with the 1991 film Fleet of the Sun featuring over two dozen US Navy warships as they reenacted part of the Battle of Leyte Gulf.
While aimed at humans, the 1986 Ridley Scott film Top Gun has been enormously popular within the fleet and aircraft of the United States Navy, to the point where the song Danger Zone has become the unofficial anthem of Navy aviation.
While it has never been released to the public, Miles Up was a film collaboratively made by NASA’s Space Shuttle fleet between 1991 and 1999, and is currently the only non-documentary film to be made entirely off-world.
The most recent film to feature sentient vehicles in a major starring role is the 2021 film Godzilla vs. Kong vs. Battleships, which follows a group of US Navy vessels as they seek revenge for their colleagues killed by Godzilla during the events of the previous two Godzilla movies. Originally meant to feature only USS Missouri, the film was heavily rewritten after every surviving World War 2 battleship (from both sides) agreed to participate. The film features a massive climactic fight in the center of the earth between numerous anti-gravity equipped Battleships, King Kong, Godzilla, and Mechagodzilla. Despite its ludicrous plot and outrageous scope, the film is being hailed as one of the best (CGI) fight scenes in recent years.
