I think one of the reasons so many people struggle with the way the “revolution” was handled in Arcane Season 2 is because they truly believe that with enough violence change for the better can be made. “If Jinx just united the undercity against Piltover, they could’ve fought for their rights and won! That’s why they show Jinx with the revolutionary flag in the opening, isn’t it?”
Except this is exactly the mentality Arcane is CRITICIZING.
As Vander says “this isn’t going to solve your problems, it just makes more of them.”
What people need to understand is that revolution ALWAYS involves horrific loss and sacrifice.
As Vander says: “nobody wins in war.”
There is no ONE act of violence to solve all your problems. Everyone in Arcane thinks they know how to solve the issues between their cities. And every time it results in just more and more extreme violence until it ends up with Viktor’s “Glorious Evolution” which just basically strips every one of free will and power.
But TRUE progress can only be made when we work together despite our differences. Look at America. When we fought against ourselves in the Civil War we still ended up creating a rift in our culture that to this day has not healed. But when we unite together to take down a common foe like in WWII we can achieve remarkable things. United we stand, divided we fall. The revolution of Zaun where they fight Piltover was never going to end with Zaun in a good place. We already saw that with Vader’s revolution, why the FUCK do you think Jinx doing the exact same thing would end up better?
This is WHY Jinx only unites the Zaunites in the end. Teaming up to take down Ambessa and the Machine Herald was an act of violence, but it was also an act of UNITY. Of progress!
This is why Sevika joining the counsel is SO important. Because Zaun and Piltover worked together instead of against each other, TRUE healing can begin.
True REVOLUTION can begin.
It bugs me that so much of the criticism of Season 2 is wishing there was more violence or endorsing the violence of Zaun over Piltover. That’s such a black and white non-nuanced take on the struggles going on. Arcane is challenging you to critique these ideas, and people are refusing to because they truly believe that with the right kind of violence all their problems will be solved.

Arcane is about cycles of killing and violence.
Or it was, until Isha changed that.
Jinx is a product of ongoing cycles of violence, with her and Vi doomed to repeat the tragedy of Silco and Vander. And they are doomed to recreate the cycle, passing onto the next person, who will pass into the next, and so on. Until both Piltover and Zaun are in ruins.
By all means, this cycle should have been passed onto Isha. And for a while, she did emulate the violent parts of Jinx, getting involved in her fights, tossing bombs and aiming her gun, and encouraging the riots.
But then this changed, because Jinx changed. Loving Isha changed Jinx so deeply, from being a “curse” or a jinx to being a hero. Jinx only acted on the Stillwater rescue to save Isha, but she really became a hero in the eyes of the people in doing so.
And more importantly, she became a hero in the eyes of Isha. (Notably, her staying back to face Warwick alone so the others can escape; a sacrifice)
And in S2E6, we were shown that Isha learnt and also emulated the lesson of sacrifice. I’m sure I don’t need to elaborate on that.
In the end, Jinx didn’t pass on violence and killing to Isha, she passed on heroism and sacrifice.
And Jinx learns this from her in turn, and does the same thing to save Vi at the end, freeing them both from the chains that doomed them in the first place. The cycle of killing, replaced by a new cycle of sacrifice.

Up until this point, Jinx has only ever viewed her kills as just nameless goons working for someone else. But now, she realizes that some of the people she's killed leave behind loved ones. Not only that, she is confronted by someone who is driven by love and loss in a similar way she herself is.
I feel like this is Jinx's reality check that she isn't the only one who has ever suffered. It also shows her that there are other people who are willing to fight just as hard as she does when love is on the line.
But what Jinx least expects is the fact that Cait didn't kill her. Jinx thought that was what she deserved and that was the only thing she could expect from someone she's wronged. Yes, this doesn't technically count as Cait forgiving her, but it does count as showing Jinx that an eye for an eye isn't the only way to life.
It also adds to why she believed suicide was the only other option: Because if Cait or someone else didn't kill her, then she would have to do it herself. Cait was the first to break the cycle, but Jinx didn't understand it at first. It's only until Ekko helps her break the cycle herself that she understands it.

For the ones like me who are now dealing with the Arcane Act ||| emotional destruction.
I can recommend
• Letting it out (crying, sobbing, screaming/yelling, listening to the Soundtrack, re-watching it instantly; whatever works
• Taking a shower. Just taking a shower. I crafted myself a lil blue light, put my phone on max with all the songs (S1&2) and turned of all the lights
• For the ones who like me yelled and sobbed a lot or sth. go drink some tea or milk (with honey) for your throat.
• If you have friends that watched talk with those or take a step back from it for a bit. Whatever works for you. Take care of yourselves❤️‍🩹
And regardless of our emotions or opinions Kudos to Riot Studios bc holy shit the art and animation!!
Anyways that was it from me right now. It was an unbelievable joy to watch Arcane and now the second season but for the evening I‘m gonna calm down lol.
( @imasillygooose you as well (I hope its okay I tagged you here💙)

No other Arcane song references the real world so I wonder why this one does it can't be for no reason
um the words "american classics" are sung during the caitvi sex scene, which is mad goofy considering the world of runeterra famously does not contain the united states of america. but the song's sexy so i guess i'll let it slide

I once saw a quote that said the idea for Buffy came from subverting the horror movie trope of ‘woman is attacked in dark alley’, by making the female protagonist stronger than her attacker.
But I do find it interesting that when the female MC is given the power to fight back, she’s not just expected to protect herself, but to save everyone else as well.
And I think that’s such a tragic side to Buffy’s character, that it’s never enough for her just to protect herself, she has to save the world too, even at the expense of her own life and happiness.
