Imagine…

If say Matthew is actually older than the age mentioned in-game.

Like he’s one of the oldest orphans there being age 15 upon his arrival, yes.

But imagine he stayed at playcare for a couple years. Being ignored for adoption but continuing to make his bonds and friendships amongst the younger kids and the staff. Maybe retaking tests in the game station and still performing poorly.

And JUST BEFORE he ages out of the system…months or even weeks before he turns 18, and gets the chance to be hired onto staff, or do whatever with his life. (If that’s a thing Playtime would’ve even done.)

He suddenly finds himself “chosen”

Maybe first expecting to finally be adopted last second, that way he’s not just tossed into the wide cruel world on his own…only to find himself a part of Doey, to become the emotional balancer for Jack and Kevin, and ultimately become trapped with them in Playtime’s little slice of hell, where none of them are even treated like humans anymore.
