Summary:
In the distant past, the Guardian of the Milky Way galaxy named Lanancuras began to harbor a desire for more power. Because of his connection to the galaxy, he was able to absorb parts of planets and add them to his strength. As a result, he began invading the worlds he was assigned to protect. In the wake of his destruction, a following of creatures from across the galaxy pledged allegiance to Lanancuras and became known as the Kadrians. Taking notice of his ever-growing power and followers, the other Celestial Guardians confronted him; however, he had become too powerful, and they were defeated. Unable to subdue Lanancuras, the Celestial Guardians each gave up a part of their power and combined it into a single new Guardian, Mushra. In a final desperate attempt, they used Mushra's core by transforming it into a powerful card with which to seal Lanancuras in a prison. The prison was created from the remains of planets that had suffered under Lanancuras' tyranny. Because planets are themselves large beings, their combined strength (along with the power of the card) was able to restrain him. Thus Lanancuras was successfully sealed in a large meteorite.
The meteorite was sent off into the galaxy to be sealed forever. Meanwhile, the way Lanancuras had increased his strength had consequences on the planets of the Milky Way On Earth, around the 22nd century, it was in the shape of a virus that merged with human DNA and destroyed the humans that way. In order to eliminate the virus, scientists worked on combining human DNA with the DNA of animals and other creatures immune to the effects. They succeeded and created a sentient race known as Enterrans (a race of engineered Earthlings) which are based on humans, insects, reptiles, birds, sea creatures, wild beasts, and phantom beasts. Eventually, a cure was found and the human race survived.
However, due to Lanancuras' influence, the Enterrans fought their human creators as well as the robots that worked with the humans, driving the human race to a near extinction state. Luckily, a scientist named Dr. Daigo Tatsuro placed his 4-year-old daughter Yakumo in a sleep chamber in hopes that she would save the human race and find the human sanctuary Shinzo and bring peace back to Earth which was then renamed to Enterra. When the meteor that Lanancuras was imprisoned in struck Earth during the earlier parts of the Human-Enterran War, its fragment had struck an infant Yakumo giving her abilities that she would later discover.

Today’s translation #695
Brutus 2019/3/15, Takayama Makoto's essay
Part 1.
I've become a figure skating fan in 1980 and since then 40 years have passed.
Before Yuri!!! aired, I'd heard the news that Miyamoto Kenji was going to choreograph all figure skating in the show, so my impression was that it was an anime that was trying to portray figure skating in a proper way. Watching the first episode, even the opening surprised me so much - 'it's amazing!! - was my reaction. The opening is a simple animation of characters skating, but they don't show flashy jumps and instead we are looking at these flowing movements of edges of skating shoes, portrayed in a very natural way.
Speaking about animating figure skating, I'm sure that it was a very tough work, to constantly make sure that the movements are a logical portrayal of how humans move. Just by watching the opening, you can feel the passion of the creators, that they don't spare the hard work, if it's for figure skating.
This reminded me of my friend, the author of the manga 'Berserk', Miura Kentaro's words: 'One of the things that are very important to me is to make the movements of the characters believable. No matter if it's a character holding a weapon, or fighting alone, when I'm drawing, I want to make sure that the movements of the character's body are realistic and influenced by gravity'.
Figure skating is a discipline, which shows us, in a powerful and flashy way, a world that is very close to the limit of what kind of movements the human body is able to do. I think that the anime managed to portray this just right.

Kaito: Make a second guess
"Look, if it's really a problem, I'm sure we can just eat him," the... Mink? Girl? Says?
"Youkai!?"
"Let's all introduce ourselves," Beefy says, tossing her hair, little specks of stardust floating in the air. "Or introduce us."
"Right. So. Starting with my sisters-- This is Takayama Beacon and Takayama Kari," Monkhiin says, directing her hands to Mink Girl and the Giant. "Talking with them, Mizuno Ami, Aino Minako, Tsukino Usagi, and Tsukino Kenji. You of course already know Hino Rei, talking with her and helping cook are Makoto Kino and Chiba Mamoru.
"And this isn't even all we have planned to be with us over the next week or so, when I open the year after the annual shrine visit... Oh! The kids--"

Parallel World Pharmacy (2022)
Plot premise:  Isekai Yakkyoku World-class medical researcher Kanji Yakutani lost his little sister to a tumor years ago due to ineffective treatment. To honor her legacy, he has dedicated his research to developing new medications for such conditions. But as fate would have it, he overworks himself and passes away at the age of 31, only to be given a second chance at life in another world.
When he wakes up, Kanji finds himself in the body of a 10-year-old boy named Falma de Médicis, the son of an esteemed family of medical practitioners in the Sain Fleuve Empire. Bearing the mark of a deity's divine blessing, Falma is capable of performing a unique divine art, allowing him to create and reduce any substance with the knowledge of its chemical properties.
After reading through some pharmacology books, Falma realizes that this world is operating on similar medical practices as in ancient times. He also learns that medicine is an exclusive privilege to the nobility, depriving commoners of proper medical care. Using the knowledge from his past life and the divine abilities granted to him, Falma resolves to make medicine available to those who need it—irrespective of class.
Network: Diomedéa Episodes (and episode length): 12 (24 mins) Creator: Takayama Liz Cast: Toyosaki Aki, Ueda Reina, Hondo Kaede, Itou Shizuka, Nomura Kenji, Tobita Nobuo, Suzuki Takuma, Naganawa Maria, Hanae Natsuki IMDB | RottenTomatoes | fandom info
± It's a small and yet interesting twist to an isekai. On the surface that the original Yakutani was a pharmacist doesn't seem to be a big detail but as soon as we find out about the world he winds up in, it turns out to be a significant detail in that world. It's also very fun that unlike other isekai, there's no monsters and mostly no fighting and it's just a mostly slice of life thing for Falma.

character: *is played by Hiroyuki Sanada* Me: *stops eating popcorn* Oh this guy is super dead.
a (probably incomplete) list follows:
SPOILERS
Ryuji Takayama (Ring) - dies of fear (I think)
Seibei Iguchi (the Twilight Samurai) - gets shot in the Boshin War (talk about a happy ending override)
Ujio (the Last Samurai) - dies in battle like an absolute badass (but if I had a nickel for every Sanada death in a samurai film with an inexplicably white protagonist, this would be my first nickel)
Yoshio Oishi (47 Ronin) - commits seppuku (and this would be my second nickel, but I cried and so did you)
Kenji (Rush Hour 3) - falls off the Eiffel Tower while fighting Jackie Chan
Captain Kaneda (Sunshine) - literally gets cooked alive by sunshine
Kaito Takehaya (the Last Ship) - dies off screen of a terminal illness (and so departs the only compelling character of this series)
Hiroshi Hatake (Helix) - somehow manages to bleed out peacefully with an axe lodged in his stomach while sitting at the dinner table with the mummies of his wife and son (don’t even ask)
Shingen Yashida (the Wolverine) - gets shishkabobbed by Wolverine
Sho Murakami (Life) - I don’t even wanna know what happened but it involved a tentacle monster (also he had shown the picture of his newborn daughter to his crew, like, we been knew this would happen)
Akihiko (Avengers: Endgame) - literally just exists to get killed by Hawkeye
Hanzo Hasashi (Mortal Kombat) - perfect casting for a character whose entire arc is that he’s dead, but also too angry to die

Stoops Issue 7 - Out Now!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Today I get to present to you, the double cover of Stoops Issue 7! I am really excited about this one. Mason Silva - Double Bar Ollie. Montebello, CA. 2020. (P) Anthony Acosta. When Acosta sent me both versions of this photo, I couldn’t tell which one I liked better. The fisheye is gnarly, but the long lens really shows scale. So I ended up using both! The long lens wraps around to the back cover, with the fisheye sitting pretty up front. We went back to our old printer and the quality is perfect.
If you are in the L.A. area, don’t forget to come by JKwon this Sunday 3/7/21 from 12-4 for our release. We have some gear from our sponsors to give out for best tricks, so come get tech or creative. You can scroll back a couple posts for the flyer.
I’ve updated our Retailers link with all the new shops that ordered Issue 7, but if there isn’t shop near you carrying Stoops, you can...
Order Now!
As a reminder, Issue 7 includes the following:

Kioku, Kiroku Japanese + romaji lyrics
Unless https://silentblue.miraheze.org/wiki/Kioku,_kiroku comes back online and is accurate, the (correct) lyrics to this song have never been recorded in text form. There’s a JPG lyric card, but that can’t be copied and pasted. So here we are. This is the final, correct version of the lyrics!
Kioku, Kiroku is sung by LOPIT, a SEGA virtual performer voiced by 高山 ゆう子 (Yuuko Takayama). Either the vocals are heavily autotuned or this is some SEGA in-house voice synthesizer, but I’m leaning toward autotune. Lyrics: 南 亜矢子 (Ayako Minami) Composition, arrangement: 藤澤 健至 (Kenji Fujisawa)
Lyrics are below the cut, along with some other trivia I found!
踊りだす髪の毛に 細い脚スカートLink 指先は折れそうで 燃ゆる日は光るアーチ
花畑アミュレット 瞬きのCalibration LOPITは考える わからないワカラナイ

*I think the official lyric card misspelled “fantastic” rather than coming up with a new word. On the other hand, LOPIT’s lore is that she’s glitchy, so I guess you could say this makes sense...?
Assorted LOPIT/Kioku, Kiroku things:
The SEGA website credits Fujisawa as 藤沢健至, but this isn't how the lyric card or his official SNS credit him
高山侑子 (Yuko Takayama) is a completely different person! Don’t get them confused ^^;
