I've been rewatching Mushrambo (known in the west as "Shinzo") A fansub team has been working on translating the show and i am having a blast re-experiencing this story. The characters, designs and setting are such a vibe !

Yakumo is my favorite, so I had to draw her :)

Summary:

In the distant past, the Guardian of the Milky Way galaxy named Lanancuras began to harbor a desire for more power. Because of his connection to the galaxy, he was able to absorb parts of planets and add them to his strength. As a result, he began invading the worlds he was assigned to protect. In the wake of his destruction, a following of creatures from across the galaxy pledged allegiance to Lanancuras and became known as the Kadrians. Taking notice of his ever-growing power and followers, the other Celestial Guardians confronted him; however, he had become too powerful, and they were defeated. Unable to subdue Lanancuras, the Celestial Guardians each gave up a part of their power and combined it into a single new Guardian, Mushra. In a final desperate attempt, they used Mushra's core by transforming it into a powerful card with which to seal Lanancuras in a prison. The prison was created from the remains of planets that had suffered under Lanancuras' tyranny. Because planets are themselves large beings, their combined strength (along with the power of the card) was able to restrain him. Thus Lanancuras was successfully sealed in a large meteorite.

The meteorite was sent off into the galaxy to be sealed forever. Meanwhile, the way Lanancuras had increased his strength had consequences on the planets of the Milky Way On Earth, around the 22nd century, it was in the shape of a virus that merged with human DNA and destroyed the humans that way. In order to eliminate the virus, scientists worked on combining human DNA with the DNA of animals and other creatures immune to the effects. They succeeded and created a sentient race known as Enterrans (a race of engineered Earthlings) which are based on humans, insects, reptiles, birds, sea creatures, wild beasts, and phantom beasts. Eventually, a cure was found and the human race survived.

However, due to Lanancuras' influence, the Enterrans fought their human creators as well as the robots that worked with the humans, driving the human race to a near extinction state. Luckily, a scientist named Dr. Daigo Tatsuro placed his 4-year-old daughter Yakumo in a sleep chamber in hopes that she would save the human race and find the human sanctuary Shinzo and bring peace back to Earth which was then renamed to Enterra. When the meteor that Lanancuras was imprisoned in struck Earth during the earlier parts of the Human-Enterran War, its fragment had struck an infant Yakumo giving her abilities that she would later discover.

After all, I am still an Enterran. But there is an inherent distrust lingering between more Humanoid Enterrans and their more animal counterparts." Another shrug.

im so obsessed w anime that aired in the west and exists in its original japanese format but has left virtually no meaningful footprint on pop culture that i can detect. like on fox box (then 4kids) i used to watch this show called fighting foodons, which was actually called martial arts cooking legend bistro recipe (or bistro recipe). it was basically a pokemon knockoff where people fought with sentient food. it was incredibly fucking ridiculous as you can imagine but i thought it was cute!

also, i still get the english theme song stuck in my head (please listen im serious)

there was also a show called shinzo on jetix, which was actually called mushrambo. really bombastic action fantasy show. i was pretty obsessed with it tbh!! i think i saw nearly every episode of the first season. apparently in japan it couldnt keep up with hunter x hunter and got canceled and forgotten. i very rarely see people who even knew/remember it, let alone care about it.

interestingly enough, both these shows came from manga serialized in comic bombom, which is a monthly magazine for younger kids than shonen jump's typical audience (think corocoro)

Mushrambo Could Use A Hug Or A Ton Of Therapy.

Probably both. "What is... therapy...?"

Well, therapy is when you talk to people about your problems so that you can understand the problem and try to fix it!

.... Yes.. Yes you do.

Mushrambo could use a lot of hugs, and a ton of therapy, and the therapy is all because of his residual trauma and problems that sometimes reoccur from the whole situation of being possessed by Lanancuras' will. It was a lot to deal with... y'know, becoming a dark iteration of himself with no real control over his own will. And while he won't admit it... there are a lot of residual ouchies in his mind from that situation.

Random question, but are there any anime that you think were really popular in Argentina either when you were a kid or recently that you don't think are all that big in most of the northern hemisphere? Like, just something that you were ever surprised not as many people online are really all that aware of

See, I don't interact that much with anime fandom at large - been a while since I attended any anime cons - so I don't know if there's something that's currently popular in Argentina that's outside of the mainstream. I can tell you about anime I watched as a kid that I loved and wish more people talked about, cause nowadays if you're not one of the big classics, a currently airing anime, or have a dedicated fanbase/thread on r/anime then you're dead to the anime world for the most part

-Slayers. Surprised there's not more people actively talking about it tbh. It's not like, underground of anything, if you throw it into an anime site a lot of people my age will know of it, but it doesn't get talked about a lot nowadays

-Ghost Sweeper Mikami

-Medabots. This one I know there's a small, dedicated fanbase, but compared to what digimon and let's not even mention pokemon get, this has been left entirely in the dust

-Monster Rancher. Piece of shit anime broke my heart, then the games broke it again

-Track City. Technically a korean series but I'm lumping it in here cause I fucking loved it. Super bummed it never got the season 2 it promised with it's cliffhanger

-Shinzo. If this one got a good modern remake I would be So annoying about it you have no idea. Mushrambo my beloved

-Flint the time detective! I loved that one, I thought the idea of turning every single... I think they were monsters? Eggs? Of being able to turn them into a good version and an evil monster version was really cool, had lots of "oh god no" moments

-Los caballeros del mundo Mon/Mon Colle Knights/Rokumon Tengai Mon Kore Naito was another series I watched a lot of, though fuck me if I can remember anything about it

And I'm probably forgetting something so I'll circle back if I remember, but thus far that's it. A lot of stuff I used to love just up and vanished from public consciousness as I got older huh
