TOO HOT TO HANDLE.

PART I
I.N x reader. (s)
Too Hot To Handle Masterlist
Synopsis: You and Jeongin become contestants in a reality dating show, Too Hot To Handle. (12,9k words)
Author's note: Hope you like this one too. Don't forget to leave a feedback x
JEONGIN: I consider myself to be a pretty shy person. People tell me it's an extra charm I have and I learned how to use that to my advantage. My main charm? It's my smile, they work to reel the girls in [smiles] but don't worry, I have better things to show [winks]
-
Jeongin isn't sure that he'll do well as a contestant on a dating show.
It's definitely not about the dating part, it's the 'show' part that he's having a problem with. He doesn't consider himself as somewhat entertaining which is what someone who goes on a TV show should be.
Jeongin knows that he's reserved and quiet, unless he has something important to say, and he gets shy at times. But when it comes to his physical attributes, he doesn't have any problems with it.
He puts on his best foot forward once the staff gives the cue for him to start walking down the pier that leads to a docked boat.
It's the first time he gets to board a big, luxurious boat like this but he keeps his awe to himself knowing that a group of people have been waiting for his arrival.
Jeongin is the last contestant to get on the boat therefore he's aware of the anticipation and the expectations that he has to fill.
Even so, he's not here for that, he's here to have fun and enjoy himself.
"Oh, there he is!" Says the girl who first notices his arrival.
And also, to mingle with these attractive people he's looking at.
"Hello, what's your name?" A girl asks as she gives him a hug with a quick cheek-to-cheek.
"It's Jeongin," he answers.
"I'm Justine," she says.
Justine has blonde hair that flows down her back like a waterfall and a pair of full lips that curve into a flirty smile when he looks at her. One look and he knows that she is the type who knows how to have fun and doesn't mind getting into trouble. Not sure if Jeongin is ready to make mischief with her but he won't rule her out yet.
He quickly shifts his attention to the next girl taking her turn to hug him, she goes for both cheeks and then hands him a glass of bubbly wine.
"You're tall," she beams with a smile.
Jeongin never takes pride in his height but he can't deny that he likes being called tall.
"Thank you," he mutters.
"I'm Linda," she says.
On the contrary, Linda offers a different charm. She is a brunette with a cute smile and a thick British accent, she's looking at him with these big round, eyes and a smile that doesn't wear off her face.
However, the twin mounds on her chest catch his attention and well, he's a man after all so he glances at it just to satisfy his need.
"You have really beautiful eyes," Jeongin compliments her eyes even though he has just looked at her breasts.
"Oh, thank you," Linda says.
Jeongin continues by introducing himself to more girls. There's Francoise, another blondie with gorgeous light blue eyes, Bianca with her long legs and glowing golden skin, and then there's Courtney, who looks like she just stepped out of a swimsuit photo shoot.
"I like your smile and the dimples," Courtney says, her teeth fainty biting her lower lip as she stares at him.
It's only been a few minutes but Jeongin thanks his old self for agreeing to join this show. Never in a million years, did he imagine himself going on a yacht trip with a group of attractive people for the summer.
-
JEONGIN: I'm loving it here. I'm ready to rock the boat! [Grins]
-
Instead of being jealous, Jeongin admires his fellow male contestants for having greater bodies than him.
Especially Keith, he's big and tall, his muscles are toned and his tan skin makes his abs more defined. He must've spent countless hours in the gym to get that body and Jeongin admires him more for that.
"You're ripped," Jeongin mutters in awe at him.
Keith lets out a chuckle and brushes his wavy, brown hair to the back, "Thanks, man."
It's almost empty anyway so Jeongin decides to drain the wine straight from the bottle and he notices that everyone's head is turned. He follows to where everyone is looking then he sees a man standing on the upper deck of the boat who he assumes is the host of the show.
"Ahoy!" He greets.
Everyone is replying with various answers but Jeongin can't respond verbally when his mouth is full of wine, so he claps his hands instead.
"Welcome to my dating show, Love Overboard and I'll be your captain," He introduces himself.
Everyone is cheering and Jeongin hurriedly swallows his drink so he can also show his excitement.
"You're all about to head out on the vacation of a lifetime, and hopefully find love along the way," the captain continues.
Not sure about love but everyone is eager and frisky for this, and Jeongin is no exception. He wonders how the show is going to be because he's already having so much fun and it's only the beginning.
The captain continues with his announcement, "Tonight will be your first beach party of many, and at each party, we'll be picking up a new, sexy single."
There'll be more people joining on board? Jeongin isn't sure about finding love but hearing that, he instantly changes his mind. Maybe it is possible to find love along the way.
"However, there's a catch. There are only five double beds on board so if you don't want to sleep alone, you better pick your shipmate," the captain finishes his speech with a tricky task.
And just like that, the boat starts to sail the sea and everyone is having a round of toast to mark this moment.
"We're going to have so much fun!" Bianca says as she clinks her glass with Jeongin's empty wine bottle.
"Unless I get seasick then yeah, we're going to have fun," He jokingly says.
"I hope not," she says with a crisp laugh.
-
JEONGIN: There are already so many hot people on board. I don't think I can take anymore [laughs]
-
The males somehow gathered at the top deck, having another bottle of champagne pop open and a toast. Then the talk begins, well, you guessed it, it's about the girls.
Or in Kurt's words, the birds.
"Tell me about the birds!" He says, asking everyone for, what Jeongin assumes, girls they fancy.
Keith leans back on the sofa and brushes his brown locks, being the first to share his choice, "It's Francoise for me, she's on the top of the list," he says.
"She's fit, yeah," Mick comments, then sips his wine.
With the strong winds, Kurt decides to tie his dirty blonde hair into a low man bun, "I'm going to put myself on a race with you then," he says to Keith with a mischievous smile on his face.
"I always go for blondes so it's also Francoise for me," he remarks.
Jeongin smells competition between the two and he can't decide who to root for, they're both well-built and good-looking.
"How about you, Damon?" Kurt asks.
"I want to have some fun so for now, I want to keep my options open," Damon coyly answers, his braided curls also swinging with every gust of wind.
Jeongin sips his wine as he intently listens to the conversation going on and he almost chokes on it when Kurt slaps his knee with his big hand.
"Jeongin, my man, how about you?" He asks.
He allows himself to swallow his drink first and decides to give everyone the safe answer, "Uhm... same with Damon."
Not going to lie, Jeongin gets a little tipsy from chugging the champagne bottle earlier so it's wise that he stops drinking. He puts his drink away and focuses on giving everyone a proper answer.
"They're all beautiful but I don't want to be haste and put all the eggs in one basket," he honestly answers.
Kurt and Mick are nodding to his answer while the rest are not saying anything but seem to agree with him as well.
Jeongin glances down at the lower deck to where the girls are gathered and indeed, they're all beautiful. The girls are all beautiful in their own way and have their own distinct charms so he can't tell who he fancies the most only from their looks.
-
JEONGIN: It's hard having to try and choose between five girls right now so I'm not going on a chase yet, I'd rather see who approaches me.
-
The sea is so blue, so vast that it goes as far as his eyes can see.
Jeongin enjoys the view from the front of the boat with the wind blowing his shirt away and sending his dark hair flying, making it a mess that he has to brush it to the back.
He's not aware that someone is there until he's standing next to him.
"Hi," the girl says.
With the surface of the water reflecting the sunlight at him, he has to squint his eyes to see who it is. It's the brunette girl with hazel eyes, Linda.
"Oh, hi," he greets back.
"How are you?" She asks while holding all of her hair on one shoulder.
"Good. How are you?" Jeongin asks back, liking the shape of her body which is lean yet toned in the right places.
"Better now," she answers with a bright smile.
Linda then looks out at the view and inhales the salty air, then lets out a delightful sigh.
"Beautiful isn't it?" She says.
"Yeah," Jeongin also sighs as he takes in the picturesque view.
Then Linda turns her body to the side facing him with a smile that slightly turns into a flirty one, "Then how about me?"
It takes no genius that she's fishing a compliment out of him so he gives it to her, "I think you're beautiful."
Linda's smile grows wider on her small face, she brings her hand close to her mouth and tugs a finger between her teeth, looking at him with wild glints in her eyes.
After a moment, she speaks again, "I feel like we've got a vibe going on, yeah?"
It's only been a moment so Jeongin can't decide if he should agree with what she said but to be polite, he lightly nods at that.
"What is your type?" She asks.
Whenever someone asks him that, he gets confused. He does have a few things he's looking for in someone but it's always changing from time to time.
"I don't have too much of a type," Jeongin answers.
"Okay, so anything that breathes, huh?" Linda jokingly says with a low laugh.
"In that case, I ticked it off the box," she jokes again.
Jeongin laughs along with her. He has to admit that she does have a sense of humor, not too much, just perfect.
She leans in closer and lowers his voice, "I've got a secret," she mutters.
That gets him intrigued and somehow, he follows suit and lowers his voice as he asks, "Yeah? What's that?"
"You're probably my number one to share a bed with tonight," she says, putting shyness into her flirty smile and it somehow works on her.
She bites on her finger again and sheepishly asks, "What do you think?"
"Sharing a bed with you would be nice," he sweetly says.
"You want to share a bed with me?" Linda asks with her eyes wide and hopeful, telling him to say yes.
It was only a moment ago that Jeongin decided not to choose anyone yet but Linda makes him falter a little that he has to remind himself about his initial plan.
"Let's see," Jeongin settles on a vague answer.
Not hard to tell that Linda doesn't like the answer Jeongin gave from the way her eyes dim even though her smile remains wide and bright.
The sound of the water splashing shatters the silence and Jeongin looks to the side of the boat to see that Kurt has just jumped into the sea for a swim.
"I think I'll join them," Linda says while fixing the straps of her bikini.
She walks away to go to the back of the boat and stops after a few steps to look over her shoulder to ask Jeongin, "Are you coming?"
"I'll catch up later," he says.
-
JEONGIN: Linda is flirty and sweet. We had a good chat, there's a potential there but I want to see how this unfolds.
-
Instead of swimming in the sea, Jeongin goes to the upper deck and gets into the jacuzzi that has been set to keep the water warm at all times.
The rose petals are bubbling along with the water as he leans back and enjoys the pleasant afternoon. It hasn't sunk in yet that he'll probably be having these kinds of days for the next three weeks.
"Do you mind if I join you?" Someone asks.
Jeongin snaps his head in the direction of the voice and finds Justine there. Girls are coming to him one by one, he should consider this his lucky day.
"Not at all," he responds.
Justine ties her long blonde hair into a messy ponytail before slowly getting herself into the tub and sitting next to him, sending the water level rising but not enough to slosh out of the tub.
She tucks a strand of hair behind her ear and smiles at him, "You know as soon as I saw you coming, I just know that you're the one I'd go for," she says.
Justine doesn't even bother to small talk first and Jeongin likes the directness in that since he's a very straightforward person.
"I get that feeling that we're going to match well," she adds.
Jeongin doesn't know how to answer that. A part of him wants to entertain that idea but another part of him doesn't want to give her false hope so he ends up responding with a smile.
"I like that you're a bit shy," she says with a giggle.
And that sends Jeongin's hand touching his ear, a habit he does whenever he gets shy.
Justine plays with the petals by scooping them in her hand, "Do you like blondes?"
"Not really, actually," Jeongin says, again, he's a very straightforward person.
Thankfully, Justine takes it well and uses it to her advantage, "Well, you're to love blondes after this."
Justine knows how attractive she is and how to use it as a weapon, every little thing she does is indeed attractive.
But Jeongin firmly stands his ground, "You're going to have to persuade me," he says with a half smirk.
Justine licks her lips and brightly smiles, "It's not much persuading, really."
Her boldness amuses him so much that Jeongin cracks a sonorous laugh.
-
JEONGIN: Justine is oozing with confidence and I dig that.
-
The ripples on the water tell Jeongin that Justine may have subtly moved closer and he's right, he finds her sitting close next to him in the tub.
Once the laughs die down, Justine tilts her head to the side and seductively asks, "Okay, maybe I can persuade you a little bit," she mutters.
He knows what would happen if he turns his head to the side but something in him tells him to do it and his intrusive thought always wins.
The moment he turns his head, Justine grabs his chin to hold him still so she can pleasantly leans in for a kiss. Once she captures his lips, she moves her hand to the nape of his neck as she keeps kissing him.
Jeongin needs a second to calibrate himself into the kiss as Justine keeps his tongue busy by twirling it with hers. He places his hand on her neck and that way, he can angle her head as he pleases and deepen the kiss.
There's nothing but the smooching sound and the sound of the water bubbling in the tub. For a moment, Jeongin lets himself immersed in the kiss then slowly pulls away after sensing that Justine is running out of breath.
As expected, Justine gasps for air the moment he lets go. She's letting out a chuckle and he guesses it's out of triumph.
"Was it a good persuading?" She asks
"Not bad, yeah," Jeongin plays it cool when it's in fact, a really good kiss and he has to look away to resist the urge to go for another.
Justine wades the water around her with her hand, "So what's the bed situation for tonight?"
It seems like he comes close to a decision but he wants to keep it for later because who knows? Maybe someone else will come his way and change his mind.
"Tonight, you'll know," he tells her.
"I think I know the answer already," she says with a triumphant smile.
-
JEONGIN: Somehow I pulled off getting two out of five girls to want to sleep on my bed and deciding on one is hard [chuckles] but there's no harm in that, right? [Raises eyebrow]
-
It's going to be the first party tonight.
If there's one thing that Jeongin takes seriously, it's his fashion. He doesn't just put on something together, he's dressed to impress.
It's not even about the fact that there'll be a new single tonight but that's just how he is. He likes building an outfit and puts so much effort into doing it.
He chooses dark jeans and a printed shirt as the top, he has his hair pushed to the back and leaves a few strands falling over his forehead. Not forgetting to decorate his hands with metal rings that flatter his skin tone and highlight his long fingers.
And now, he's ready to step into the night.
The captain leads the group down a path right after the boat docked not far away, carrying a torch as a source of light. He takes us to a backyard of what looks like a villa but it's too dark to know for sure.
"I promised you the holiday of a lifetime so welcome to your first beach party!" The captain says as he takes the steps as his center stage.
Everyone is looking their best and excitedly cheering in response to him.
"Let's get it started!" The captain shouts, pointing to the beach where the fireworks go off and light up the sky.
The next thing he knows, everyone is partying. The music is blasting, there are fire dancers, and drinks are being passed around and constantly refilled.
Everyone is having fun and getting frisky while at it, especially for Damon and Bianca who share a passionate kiss in between dances.
The captain takes center stage once again and he guesses it's time for the new single revelation.
"Great party, right?" He asks with a wide grin on his bearded face.
Everyone is replying with various answers but they all agree that it is a great party and it's just one of many.
"What do you say we make it even better?" The captain asks.
"Yes!" Courtney enthusiastically shouts from next to him.
"This is going to blow your mind. It's time to introduce you to a new, hot sexy single!"
The captain slowly retreats from where he stands as the place goes dark and Jeongin only notices it now that the dancers are already leaving.
It suddenly turns dark and a spotlight appears on a curtain, heightening everyone's anticipation to see the new single entering the show.
When the curtain finally drops, there's no one there but a cone on top of a small table.
"No!!!" Courtney aggressively shouts out of spite.
"No! I came here for dick!" Bianca screams, almost hysterical with both hands holding the sides of her head.
The party turns into a frenzy while Jeongin is scratching his head, and doesn't understand why everyone starts breaking down over what looks like an air freshener to him.
-
JEONGIN: The new, sexy hot single is a cone. A cone?!
-
"Hello, everyone."
It's when the cone starts talking that Jeongin knows it's not an air freshener but he's still confused why everyone is groaning in complaint.
"I am Lana. Love Overboard has hit the rocks and you're now washed up on Too Hot To Handle."
Jeongin is still oblivious to the fact that the show has changed to what he believes is still a dating show only that it has changed its name.
"I didn't sign up for this," Kurt cries, fisting his hair in distress.
Then Jeongin sees that Damon has dropped to his knees, crying. He taps on his shoulder to check, "Are you crying?"
But Damon is too bust pulling at his hair to even answer his question.
"You all have been selected because meaningless flings mean more to you than genuine relationships," the cone continues talking.
"The fuck?" Mick curses, offended.
Francoise clicks her tongue and coyly shrugs, "Who cares about emotional relationships?"
"Since your arrival, I have been gathering data on your behavior."
Justine snorts and flips her hair, "I hope you like what you saw, Lana!"
Jeongin hopes everyone else quiets down so he can hear the rest of what the cone has to say so he knows how to properly react to it.
"But from now on, you must adhere to my retreat rules."
So it's not a dating show? It's a retreat? And there are rules? Jeongin doesn't remember them saying something about it when he signed the contract.
"No kissing."
"What's going on?" Bianca meekly says, rubbing her temple erratically.
"No self-gratification."
"What's that?" Jeongin asks with a perplexed look on his face.
Keith who happens to standing nearby answers the question for him "No rubbing one out, mate," he says along with a hand gesture for a visual aid.
"That's lowkey sick," Jeongin blurts out.
Not allowed to touch his own body part? What kind of rules is that?
"That's not even funny," Kurt comments with an exasperated sigh.
But everyone hasn't heard the worst of it all.
"And no sex of any kind," Lana delivers the last rule they have to follow in the retreat.
"Is that even healthy?" Kurt comments again, completely flabbergasted.
-
JEONGIN: Can we... unplug her or something?
-
Jeongin gets it now why everyone is simultaneously going on a mental breakdown.
This summer isn't what he expected it to be, one where he imagined he would meet and mingle with attractive people and you know, get lucky.
Then the cone comes and shatters his dreams with those rules. Now he's going into a meltdown on his own.
"As a reward for the progress you make, I have allocated a prize of $200,000," Lana announces.
Everyone else is happily exclaiming at the announcement of the sum of money they would win out of this show.
"Two hundred racks, bro!" Damon grins and his tears seem to have magically dried at the mention of money.
"That's a lot of money," Kurt comments, also reacting differently once he hears of the prize money.
On the other hand, the information isn't enough to console him. He is still reeling from the harsh reality that this is not the summer that he dreamed of.
"Welcome to my retreat and Welcome to your long, hard, sexless summer!" Lana finishes.
-
JEONGIN: The money is tempting but breaking rules is so fun, you know [smirks]
-
As everyone is doing a tour around the villa, Jeongin couldn’t help but think that it’s unfair for Lana to gather a group of hot singles, and make everyone live together in a gorgeous villa only to be told that they can’t do sexual things.
The swimming pool, the hot tub, the firepit… All these cool places and he is not allowed to kiss anyone anywhere. This is so fucking unfair. He should have followed the captain and boarded the boat to get him home.
However, the captain is right about one thing though. There are only five beds in the bedroom and there are ten people, so everyone needs to find a bedmate.
Jeongin randomly chooses a bed and dives right onto it, feeling how bouncy and comfortable it is as he lies on it. These fucking beds and no one is allowed to fuck on it, so fucking- Fuck!
He completely forgot about the bed situation and that he has not yet decided on who he wants to share the bed with which explains why Linda keeps glancing his way from the bed across his. He then slowly turns his head to find the blonde-haired girl and as expected, Justine is uneasily looking his way too.
Jeongin puts his hands behind his head and starts thinking. He can usually solve it by keeping both girls happy but he can’t do that here, right? He has to decide on one.
-
JEONGIN: I have to pick one out of two great girls. What am I going to do?
-
Justine and Linda, they’re both physically appealing to him so it has to come down to who will get along well with him.
Jeongin is touching his ear as he recalls the interactions he had with those two girls to help him decide. Linda has a good chat and a sense of humor, she’s someone he can have night talks with. On the other hand, Justine is fun and confident, she’s someone who won’t mind doing mischief with him or worse, leads him to temptations.
In conclusion, Linda is the safest choice for him, not that he doesn’t want to rule break with her but she’s the type that avoids rule-breaking instead of encouraging it.
But does Jeongin want to play safe? Like… what’s the fun in that? Jeongin thinks that he has come to a verdict.
“Hey, Justine,” he calls for her.
Justine seems to have expected him to call her name and looks over her shoulder to look at him, “Yes?”
“What are you doing there?” he asks her.
He then pats the space next to him on the bed and says, “Your bed is here.”
“Okay,” Justine triumphantly smiles, not wasting time to get on his bed, and crawls over to sit next to him.
Jeongin secretly peers over to Linda who’s looking rather disappointed that he didn’t choose her. In all honesty, he has his reasons for choosing Justine but he believes Linda wouldn’t want to hear it.
“I think she’s upset,” Jeongin lowly mutters at Justine.
Justine looks around the room to see who he talked about, “Who?”
He covers his mouth so no one can read his lips as he says, “Linda.”
Justine doesn’t look right away but when she finally does, she nods in agreement.
In another part of the room, the battle for Francoise has been won by Kurt as she chose him as her bedmate and Keith has to share the bed with Linda. Everyone might as well call it the bed of the defeated.
-
JEONGIN: I mean, I don’t mind taking Linda in my bed too if she is keen to join us [Chuckles]
-
Jeongin is still forcing his eyes to open when the cone lights up and chimes in the middle of the room.
"Good morning, everyone."
"Morning, Lana," Justine croaks from next to him, clutching the duvet to her chest.
Everyone else is still as sleepy with their bare faces and eyes heavy with sleep. Definitely, not in the mood to hear Lana as as the first thing to hear after they wake up.
"The goal of my retreat is to teach you how to form deep and meaningful relationships. To do that, you have to be able to put the needs of others before your own. Especially when you are horny."
Okay, Jeongin gets it. Breaking the rules means that not only does he lose money but also means, he chooses to act selfishly on the group.
"Good luck," Lana concludes her morning greeting.
Well, last night was overwhelming and Jeongin was too tired to even do anything. He fell asleep almost immediately as Justine snuggled up to him.
"Respectfully, I hate that fucking cone, bro," Kurt states from the bed at the other end of the room.
Mick drinks from his water tumbler, then observes everyone with his piercing, brown eyes.
"Got a question though," he says, putting away his tumbler on the bedside table, "Did anyone break a rule?"
It seems like Mick has just voluntarily become the chief and making sure everyone is adhering to the retreat rules.
He takes a look around the room and sees everyone's faces one by one. He puts more suspicion on couples who are a little more established.
"Kurt?" Mick asks.
Kurt shrugs his question away and Francoise confirms it with a verbal answer, "Nah."
Mick shifts his suspicion onto the next person, "Jeongin?
Jeongin calmly brushes his hair to the back, "I literally fell asleep when Justine and I were still talking," he shares.
Justine is nodding next to him because she knows that it's true, "Last night with Lana... that was intense," she adds.
Mick moves to the next on his suspicion list, eyeing the bed across from him which is Damon and Bianca's bed.
"Damon?"
"Nothing," Bianca speaks for both of them.
Jeongin wouldn't believe these people right away and he knows a lying face when he sees one. One or two of these people are lying to the group but he won't play the saint as well.
It's still early to tell that he won't stumble and break any rules.
-
JEONGIN: I share a bed with Justine and there’s a sexual tension there but honestly, it’s just too early to be hated by a group of people [chuckles]
-
The boys are already cooling down when Jeongin gets to the beach to work out.
Kurt is lying down with his beads of sweat glistening under the pale morning sun while Keith is still doing some lifting and then there's Mick who sits on the mat, brushing his damp hair to the back.
"You guys are already done?" Jeongin asks as he starts stretching his body.
"Uh-huh," Kurt answers while panting.
Mick wipes his sweaty face and turns to sit facing everyone, "I really want us to listen to what Lana is saying. Does anybody else agree? Or am I alone on this?" He suddenly asks a critical question.
Without looking at him, Kurt talks with his eyes closed and hands folded on his abdomen, "I just don’t see how you can make a connection without physical touches. That’s impossible."
"You can cuddle," Keith says in between his grunts of labor.
"Oh yeah, but sometimes that’s not enough," Kurt hits back then peers over at Keith.
Jeongin thinks that Keith is secretly not wanting anything to happen between Kurt and Francoise but Kurt is quick enough to see his intention.
"What’s the longest you went without having sex or you know, getting off?" Mick casually asks like he didn't just ask when is the last time anyone rubs one out.
Kurt purses his lips as he thinks, "Uhm... Like a week?"
Mick surely doesn't expect to hear that answer and Jeongin personally could do a month without a release, especially with money at stake.
But there are hot girls in the equation here and that's what makes it hard to solve.
"If you think about it, you can connect with someone without sex," Mick says.
Instead of giving Mick's wisdom words seep in, Kurt immediately shoots it down with his pessimism.
"I don’t know, man."
Keith puts down his dumbbells and wipes the sweat on his forehead with his t-shirt, "It’s a great idea but uh…" he seems to doubt Mick's words as well.
Jeongin steps in to be the one accepting Mick's words even though he also doubts that's how it works.
"We’ll see where this goes," he says with a pat on Mick's shoulder.
-
JEONGIN: Justine and I have got a bit of a naughty vibe going on. I'm afraid it's just a matter of time before we break the rules.
-
Justine notices that Jeongin has just showered when he enters the dressing room.
She's done doing her makeup and offers to dry his hair for him. Jeongin doesn't see any harm in that so he sits on her chair and lets her do it.
"I'm a makeup artist, I'm good at this," she convinces for the last time, then turns on the hair dryer.
The constant humming of the hairdryer fills the space and while Justine is doing what she does best, Jeongin observes the makeup tools scattered on the vanity right in front of him.
He picks them up one by one and guesses what their use is, when in doubt, he shows it to Justine and asks, "It's an eyelash curler, isn't it?"
Justine looks at him through the rectangular mirror, "Yes."
He continues his exploration through Justine's makeup pouch and takes out the one that interests him. He opens a tube but instead of a cap, he finds a wand with a spoolie at the end of it.
"Is it for eyelashes? Mascara, isn't it?"
Justine turns off the hairdryer and uses a hairbrush next, "No, that's for the eyebrows."
He notices the difference between the two, the one for the eyebrows has a smaller spoolie.
Done brushing his hair, Justine gives the back of his head a quick ruffle to add volume. She then takes a moment to appreciate her work.
"You have soft, fine hair," she compliments.
When she looks at him, she notices that Jeongin is very much intrigued by her makeup. She lightly chuckles and takes it from him.
"This is how you use it," she says, demonstrating how to use it.
To get a closer look, Justine slightly bends down as she applies something to his eyebrows while Jeongin can only watch through the mirror.
"It needs a trim," she mutters as she moves to the other eyebrow.
Justine then jams the wand back into the tube and looks at him to check on his work. She wipes the excess with his thumb.
"Hey, hey, hey!
Mick's jarring voice startles Justine so that she accidentally pokes Jeongin's under eyes with her long nails.
"What are you guys doing?"
Justine sucks air through her teeth and spins around on her feet, "We're doing nothing," she innocently answers.
Mick stands at the end of the long vanity table and props his hands on it, "This is my money you're playing with," he says, already taking ownership of the prize money.
"I promise you, we were just talking," Jeongin assures him while checking himself in the mirror for what Justine did to his eyebrows and he likes it.
Mick purses his lips in doubt and drops his head to the side, "I want to know if I can trust you," he says.
Justine grabs his hand and takes it for a handshake, "You can trust us," she says.
"Okay," Mick says as he shakes her hand, signifying that he chooses to trust her.
That seems to work to convince him but not enough to keep his laser eyes away from both of you.
"I'm watching y'all," he says as he walks backward to the doorway.
After Mick left, Justine plops onto the chair next to his and picks up a hairbrush to comb her hair with.
"We shook on it but I was like... fuck it," she says with a giggle.
She is what he expects her to be, a girl who thinks that the rules are meant to be broken and it's low-key hot, but also a bit threatening. Jeongin is not ready for the repercussions.
"If we break the rules, we would have the whole team against us," he says, reminding Justine that everyone is going to be pissed about it.
She abruptly stops combining her hair as if she just came to her senses. She then looks at him and cracks a smile, "You’re the good one out of the two of us," she says.
And Jeongin e can't tell if she means it in a good way or a bad way.
-
JEONGIN: If it were up to Justine, we would break rules already but I don’t want to be the first.
-
Before the dressing room gets crowded with everyone getting ready for the night, Jeongin hurriedly goes to the bedroom once he's done dressing up.
Damon is also there, lying on his bed and drinking wine. To pass the time, Jeongin casually chats with him, and in the midst of it, the cone chimes.
Jeongin's head snaps toward the source of the sound, "Damon and Jeongin," Lana calls their names.
Jeongin presses his lips together into a thin line and exchanges a panic glance with Damon.
"Yes, Lana?" Damon asks with his wine glass hanging mid-air.
"Can you please gather everyone in the cabana?" Lana requests.
Jeongin gets up from his bed without saying anything and goes straight to the dressing room to tell everyone. From the sheer shock on their faces, he senses that someone has messed up.
"Anyone have any ideas why we’re here?" Mick says, putting on his detective hat the first thing everyone settles on their seats.
"Could be Lana going to throw another party for us?" Linda wildly guesses with an innocent look on her face.
Mick doesn't take that answer and squints his small eyes as he asks the important question, "Did someone break the rules?"
The silence that passes answers his question and he sighs, disappointed that the group chooses to hide their lies instead of owning up to it immediately.
"Let’s just hear what Lana says," Keith says.
Keith's words summon her, the cone chimes not long after, and instead of her usual greeting, she goes straight into the business.
"This morning I asked you all to start putting the needs of the group ahead of your own. It seems that my request fell on deaf ears."
Even though she talks in the same robotic voice, everyone knows that she's upset that someone is indeed fucked up.
"Oh, shit! She’s pissed," Kurt says, making it clear to everyone.
Mick gets serious this time, clasping his hands together and dropping them between his legs, he asks again, "Did anyone break the rules?"
The silence answers his question again and he lets out a heavy sigh, not accepting the fact that they choose to remain silent when Lana clearly said that someone has broken the rules.
-
JEONGIN: Everyone is just lying at each other’s faces [shakes head]
-
"Jeongn and Justine?" Mick glares at him.
Jeongin can calmly deny his allegation and say, "No."
"You sure? A hundred percent?" Mick asks again.
Justine nods at him and answers it for him, "You can move on and ask someone else."
Mick goes to the next person who sits on the smaller sofa on the side of the room, "Francoise and Kurt?"
They remain quiet and then Francoise starts to scratch her neck, silently gulping air and constantly avoiding everyone's eyes. Everything she does gives away the answer.
"This is the time to fess up," Mick says, either trying to press on them or encourage them.
"We uh... we..." Kurt is blabbering, he's looking anywhere but not the people he's talking to.
"I'm going to be honest, we did a little kiss," Francoise calmly says.
Both Mick and Keith drop their heads onto their hands but it's for two different reasons. Mick is obviously devastated about the money while Keith is well, he just lost another battle against Kurt.
"I needed a goodnight kiss then we fell asleep after so..." she explains.
"Yeah, right," Keith lowly mutters out of spite.
"And I'm going to have to be honest again," Francoise is not finished with her confession yet.
"Oh... fuck!" Linda breathlessly gasps with her hand rubbing her temple.
"We also had another kiss down the beach," Francoise admits another sin.
Everyone is exclaiming, not expecting that this posh girl who always looks calm and collected is breaking rules left and right.
"You had two kisses and it's only day one?" Justine says but instead of sounding like she's scolding her, Jeongin catches a hint of jealousy in her voice.
Mick is left speechless that he can only turn his head side to side like he's watching a tennis match but in this case, Francoise and Kurt are playing with his money instead of a tennis ball.
"Francoise and Kurt, under normal circumstances, each kiss would cost $3,000. Unfortunately, these are not normal circumstances," Lana announces another bad news.
Mick's eyes widen in horror at the mention of how much money they could have lost and it's going to cost a lot more worse than that.
"Earlier today when I asked you all to put the needs of the group before your own, I implemented a covert test."
Linda dramatically gasps, then immediately shut her mouth with her hands.
"Unfortunately, you have failed this test. Furthermore, all fines have been doubled."
"Unbelievable..." Mick sighs into his hands.
It's bad news after bad news and Jeongin should be relieved that he's not a part of the cause but it doesn't make him feel better either.
"Any rules that have been broken since arriving at my retreat will now cost the group twice as much," Lana furtherly informs.
"Wow!" Jeongin's eyes widen in surprise.
"That’s a big chunk of money," Linda innocently comments.
"Francoise and Kurt, your two rule breaks have cost the group $12,000."
Lana drops another bad news right away, not giving everyone a moment to recover from the previous ones.
-
JEONGIN: It's just... brutal [sighs]
-
"Regrettably, the other couple has been more selfish," Lana spoils that there's another rule breaks no one knows of.
This has been overwhelming for everyone and Linda may have run out of patience with anyone who keeps quiet about their rule breaks.
"If you have any respect, you'll be honest with us," she says, a little upset that she gets to suffer from someone else's actions.
"Can anyone please tell the truth!" Mick desperately begs, having no other way how to get anyone to admit to their wrongdoings.
"It's us," Damon finally comes forward, "we kissed in the firepit earlier."
Mick has nothing else to say but to hear how much money has been lost to another reckless behavior.
"Your rule break has cost the group a further $6,000," Lana informs.
Jeongin calculates it roughly in his head and if everyone keeps this reckless behavior for the next three weeks, nothing will be left in the pot.
"We’re going to be broke," he mutters to Keith who sits next to him.
"The prize fund now stands at $182,000," Lana updates.
-
JEONGIN: Now, I'm so glad that I wasn't the first to break the rules.
-
Mick can't hide his disappointment even when it's bedtime. He gets on the bed and tucks himself in, he keeps his head turned away from everyone.
"Oh, I’m so mad," he says, not holding back in letting everyone know that.
Justine cringes in horror at Jeongin while everyone else stays quiet the whole night, unlike the previous night when everyone loudly chatted to each other until the lights turned out.
It's like the temperature in the room drops a few degrees after that reveal in the cabana and drops a few more when the lights are off.
But that is when Jeongin feels most alarmed because things could happen in the dark.
Justine's hand slides across his chest and then she rests it on his shoulder where he can feel the tip of her sharp nails on his skin.
"Your skin is so soft," she compliments with a smile that could be heard as she rests her head close to his.
"So is yours," he compliments back.
Based on profession, there's no doubt Justine knows how to take care of her body well. Her skin is smooth, her hair is soft and she always smells good. There's no denying that she is beautiful and she could easily tempt him when she wants to.
As his thoughts are busy wandering, Justine places her hand on his jaw and starts caressing his cheek. It's the way that her fingers inching closer to his lips that makes his heart rate elevates.
"Don't you think that we'll eventually rule break?" She asks out of the blue.
Jeongin has the same thought as well but after what happened tonight and how everyone reacted to rule breaks, he has second thoughts about committing one.
"Yeah, but I think now is not the right time," he simply refuses.
"Fair enough," she says.
A moment later, Justine's face is hovering inches away above him. She stares right into his eyes long enough that Jeongin can see the naughty intent behind her eyes.
She then leans in and Jeongin has his hands ready to push her away when he needs to. But Justine goes for his cheek and places a soft kiss on it.
"Goodnight," she mutters once she pulls away then lays back on her side of the bed.
-
JEONGIN: Why am I here? How the fuck I ended up in Too Hot To Handle? [clicks tongue]
-
A couple of days have passed uneventfully.
Everyone is still reeling from the fines that have been doubled thus making them more cautious around each other.
Jeongin thinks that it's only a matter of time before someone breaks the rules again.
You can take the player out of a game but you can't take the game out of a player, that's just how it is.
For Jeongin personally, he doesn't have any problems following the rules, except when Justine starts doing something. However, she has been behaving well and maybe she's doing her own thing but he doesn't want to look too much into it.
There's someone else that has been giving him the eyes lately. After Jeongin chose Justine over her, he thought that Linda had already gotten over him but apparently, she's not.
He reckons it's probably because he hasn't broken the rules with Justine yet and that makes Linda think she still has another chance with him.
That's not entirely wrong though, Jeongin isn't going to close on a chance of getting to know someone else.
"Hi. You okay?" Linda asks, appearing from inside the villa and joining him on the terrace.
"I'm okay," he answers, brushing his damp hair from showering, "you?"
Linda sits on the wooden chair next to his and puts her legs up with her body facing him, "I think I'm good."
Jeongin smiles hearing her cute giggle at the end of her answer, she offers different charms than the other girls here.
"I like your dimples," she says, tugging her finger between her teeth again.
"Thank you," Jeongin mutters his gratitude with a smile.
Linda holds his gaze and says, "It's one of the many things I like about you."
Jeongin's hand flies to his ear, touching it as he leans back on his chair and tries not to look into Linda's eyes because they're rather dangerous.
"What was it?" She asks, dangling her legs on the armrest of the chair.
"What did you say the uhm... your favorite feature on me?"
Jeongin has to rake his brain to remember that day, he remembers looking at Linda's breasts when he said a totally different thing.
"Your eyes," he finally answers with a sheer doubt.
"People normally say it's my boobs," Linda says with a crisp laugh.
Now that she said it, Jeongin's eyes automatically flick down at her cleavage and quickly look away.
"They're alright," he coyly says, trying to remain calm even though he knows Linda caught him looking at it.
"You haven't looked, have you?" She jokingly says, putting all of her hair to the back.
"Nah, it's the first time I looked," he jokes back.
Without looking, Jeongin knows that he's profusely blushing and his ears are reddening, his hand comes to the rescue, rubbing it to give him a sense of ease
On the other hand, Linda is enjoying every second of it.
"About you and Justine," she carefully says.
"Are you guys like in a thing or...?"
Linda's eyes are small and warm brown, however, the way she looks at him is piercing like daggers. Jeongin knows that the conversation will eventually get to this.
"We're still getting to know each other but we're also doing our own thing... I'm not stopping her from getting to know anyone," Jeongin answers.
"But do you think it has the potential to be a relationship or more like... friendship-ish type of thing to you?" She asks, biting her finger again.
"Well, uhm..." Jeongin has no answer to that yet, he's been grasping things around Justine and is not sure what he wants to do with it yet.
"I don't know, honestly. I just don't want to rule out any possibilities yet," he adds.
Linda nods and bites her lower lip, "Have you ever thought that you have more potential with someone else?"
"Could be," he coyly says.
She props a hand under her chin and looks at him with a soft gaze, "How about with me?"
Jeongin cracks a smile, not expecting Linda will be this bold. Somehow, he likes this use of subtle aggressiveness.
"We'll see..." Jeongin keeps his cool and stares back into her eyes as he says it.
"Well, you'll see," Linda says.
-
JEONGIN: Linda, Linda, Linda... she's being all cute and flirty, trying to make my head turn.
-
Linda's game doesn't just end there.
In the dressing room while everyone is getting ready for the night, she puts on a dress and checks herself in the mirror, then all of a sudden turns to him and asks.
"How do I look?"
Jeongin has to check for the people around him, thinking that she is talking to someone else.
"Uh... good," he shortly answers.
"Just good?" Linda asks again.
She's so bold for doing it in front of everyone. Worse is Justine is in the room too and Jeongin keeps actively telling his brain not to look her way.
Linda takes a step closer toward him and spins around on her feet, "Do you like the dress or should I put on a different one?"
The whole room suddenly turns quiet when it is full of chatter a while ago and he feels pressured with all the attention he's getting.
"No, I like this one. It looks good on you," Jeongin says, wanting to end this exchange.
"I trust you," Linda says, walking back to the mirror to fix her hair.
Jeongin continues buttoning his shirt facing his closet to avoid everyone's eyes.
That little stunt Linda pulled in the dressing room seems to make Justine need to mark her territory. She brings him a drink and corners him on the sofa in the cabana.
"I like this shirt on you," she says, softening him with a compliment.
"Thanks," Jeongin sheepishly says, sensing that she's going to ask about him and Linda.
"How are you feeling tonight?" She asks, then sips her drink.
"I'm feeling good," he answers but that would imply that he talked about the thing that happened with Linda.
"I guess," he quickly adds, then gulps his wine.
He swallows it quickly, not wanting to give Justine a chance to talk about it, "You?"
Justine smiles and taps her glass of wine with her long nails, "I feel good. I feel like kissing someone tonight," she says with a sonorous laugh.
Oh, fuck.
Remember when he said it's only about time that he and Justine break a rule? Well, this is it.
She inches closer to him and puts her leg over his lap, "I know we both want to explore things here..."
She props her hand against the sofa and tilts her head to the side as she looks at him, letting a moment pass in silence to build tension.
"But if there's one person I want to break rules with..."
Justine drags her nails down his arm, sending a shudder down his spine then leans in to whisper, "It's with you,"
Deep down, he knows the bad in him wants to come out and play.
"What do you think?" Her voice drops lower than before.
All sorts of thoughts fill his head and most of them are going against him. It costs $6,000. Lana will be pissed. The group is going to kill him for it. What if he craves it more?
He keeps considering Justine's offer until he runs out of excuses to not kiss her and his thoughts favor his desire.
"I guess a kiss won't hurt," he mutters to her.
"Promise, it won't hurt," Justine says, before crashing her lips against him.
It's the second time they kiss but it feels different now that there are rules that forbid it which makes it oddly satisfying. There's just something about breaking the rules that makes him feel so damn alive.
Justine gets it and that's why she's smiling when she lets go of the kiss, leaving Jeongin's lips tainted with her lipstick which she hurriedly wipes with her hand.
"See? It doesn't hurt," she says.
-
JEONGIN: I know everyone is going to be mad about it but I-I don't regret it. Not for a bit, to be honest [laughs]
-
Jeongin and Justine know how to keep their poker face on the whole night.
Damon almost caught them earlier but thankfully, they manage to make him not suspect anything and so does everyone even until it's bedtime.
"Guys, we've been good these past few days," Mick says to everyone in the room.
"So we're allowed to kiss now?" Damon jokes.
"Man..." Mick sighs, patting his pillow before resting on it, "I'm saying that you guys should keep it that way,"
With the lack of answers, Jeongin can tell that not everyone agrees with the idea, especially him. He exchanges a knowing glance with Justine.
"Better not be any rule breaks tonight, got it?" Mick warns with a glare.
If there's anything Mick shouldn't say to a bunch of rulebreakers, that is exactly it. Tell them to not do it only makes them want to do it more.
That notion seems to be right with, again, no obvious answers but low, weak mutters just to get the conversation over with.
The bedroom turns dark not long after and Justine scoots closer to him until her head rests next to his.
"It's best that we don't tell them," she whispers.
Jeongin agrees. He sees no benefit of being honest to them other than potentially getting crucified by them so it's a hard pass for him.
"I think so too," he says to her.
Justine lowly chuckles, "We shouldn't say anything until the last minute," she suggests.
He nods at that, "No one says anything."
Justine takes his hand and has him link his pinky finger around her for a pinky promise.
"That's a promise," she says and to his surprise, kisses interlinked fingers.
Somehow that night, Jeongin falls asleep at ease.
-
JEONGIN: I feel guilty about last night. I know everyone is going to hate us but Justine and I decided to not say anything about our rule break.
-
In the morning, no one still suspected anything.
Maybe the only one that does is Mick, his hawk eyes are scanning everyone's faces even though he's barely awake yet.
"I have a boner for like... 80% of the day," Damon suddenly shares a fact no one even asks.
Bianca chuckles at that while untangling her braided dark hair.
"When you get a boner, your blood rushes to your dick and if it goes for too long, it takes away the blood from your brain," Damon explains.
Everyone doubts that's how it works but they're laughing at his unconfirmed theory, including Jeongin with Justine clinging to his arm and her head resting against it.
Jeongin's eyes somehow wander to bed opposite him, seeing Linda looking not pleased seeing him with Justine which makes him abruptly stop opening his mouth completely.
The day continues and he knows he's only counting down to the time until Lana finally calls everyone to the cabana.
When the call comes, he isn't ready and he believes, so is everyone.
"This is not good," Keith mutters as he adjusts the waistband of his swimming trunks.
"It's too early for this shit," Damon grumbles behind him.
Everyone is taking heavy steps to the cabana, knowing that good things never happened there and today is one of those, that Jeongin knows for sure.
"What do you think Lana wants?" Kurt asks.
Courtney throws all of her hair to the side, "I have a feeling she's not going to be nice to us today," she says.
Jeongin nervously gulps air because Courtney is right.
-
JEONGIN: This is not good [scratches head] I'm absolutely shitting myself.
-
To avoid suspicion, he chooses to sit separately from Justine and when the chime comes, he immediately puts his poker face on.
"Despite doubling the fines, I regret to inform you there have been further breaches," Lana announces right away.
It's always a bad sign when Lana skips the formality and goes straight to the rule-breaking announcement.
"Oh, my days!" Keith shortly responds.
Jeongin pretends to act surprised, parting his mouth open in perfect O shape then rubs his chin in wonder. His eyes wander to where Justine sits and he sees the opposite reaction on her, she looks slightly excited for it.
"Breaches?" Francoise points out that this means that there's more than one rule break.
"Y'all need a stricter regime," Mick says with an angry sigh.
However, that doesn't make Jeongin feel relieved, he's still fear of what's going down in a few minutes.
"Does anybody want to get anything off their chest?" Keith asks.
-
JEONGIN: It's definitely not the time I want to tell everyone that I fucked up.
-
Despite his calm expression, Jeongin's heart is racing inside his chest. Is it too much of him to ask everyone for a little bit of understanding that for there to be a connection, there has to be a little physical thing?
"Who broke the rule?" Mick asks again.
It's at the tip of his tongue, he wants to get them out as soon as possible but something keeps holding him back. He takes a deep breathe to muster up the courage to say—
"Bianca, what's with your face?" Courtney and her observant eyes.
Biance starts turning her head side to side, propping a hand under her chin then looks at Damon.
"I have to be honest," she says.
"Oh!" Mick shouts in disappointment, holding his head in distress.
"It was last night. It was romantic. It just happened... we kissed," Bianca admits, then turns to Damon, asking him to add something to it.
"I think that was one of the most valuable rule breaks," Damon says.
Surprisingly, everyone takes that well. There's no shouting, no silently cursing and there's not even a glare aimed toward them.
"I think that you guys are building a connection. I think you guys deserve it," Francoise says.
"Your kiss costs the group $6,000," Lana informs.
-
JEONGIN: Wait... what is going on? This is not the reaction that I thought they were going to get.
-
Jeongin doesn't expect that to happen so maybe if he admits his rule break like Bianca and Damon did, everyone is going to take it well too, right?
Right???
"So who else broke the rule?" Mick asks again.
This is the time, if he waits until Mick asks again, that'll only earn him the opposite reaction from what he wants.
"Justine and I kissed last night," he says in one breath.
And guess what? Everyone is groaning at that. He looks at Justine to seek some help here through his eyes.
"It just happens, you know," Justine says, not really a strong defense.
"How much money have we lost? Does anybody know?" Mick starts to lose his shit again.
Jeongin's hand flew to cover his eyes, not wanting to see this and also disappointed that everyone reacted differently to him when it was only his first rule break.
"A kiss is harmless," Justine casually says which only angers everyone more with her blatant ignorance of the rules.
"Oh, my God!" Mick shouts in disbelief.
"Why did we get a different reaction from them?" Justine asks the important question here.
"Because we know what Damon and Bianca got going on is solid," Mick explains.
Everyone seems to agree with his answer but Jeongin still can't accept the unfair treatment.
"Thanks, guys," Bianca thanked everyone with a smile.
"Jeongin and Justine, your rule break has cost the group a further $6,000," Lana informs again.
There comes the groans again but despite that, he's not going to waste his energy by holding a grudge over it.
"The prize fund now stands at $176,000."
In the end, everyone is as disappointed to hear how much money they have lost.
"Thanks, Lana," Courtney mutters.
Everyone is getting up from their seats thinking that Lana has done talking when she chimes again and everyone stops moving.
"I haven't finished."
-
JEONGIN: Oh, what now? [Groans] Seriously?
-
Everyone is getting nervous once again as they wait for what Lana is going to say and they believe it's yet another bad news.
"It's time to establish how committed to each other you really are by sending some of you on dates..." Lana announces.
"Who's going on a date?" Bianca asks with a blushed cheek, secretly wishing that it's her and Damon.
Jeongin can't say if he and Justine are categorized as a couple yet but he'd love to get on a date, the others start to think that maybe it's good news this time.
"...with new arrivals."
Everyone is exclaiming all at once and this time, Jeongin doesn't even have to pretend to be surprised, he is genuinely surprised to hear that there'll be new guests in the villa.
"Our new arrivals are already aware they're on Too Hot To Handle."
Jeongin notices that not everyone is pleased by this, Bianca and Francoise are not accepting it well from their lack of enthusiasm.
"I have given the new arrival a choice of dating one of the boys currently in couples," Lana further announces.
"It's a curveball y'all," Kurt excitedly says while rubbing his hands together.
Jeongin could feel Justine's eyes boring a hole in between his eyes at the newly shared announcement and the possibility that he could get chosen for this.
"She has selected..."
Despite Justine's reaction, is it wrong of Jeongin to want to be picked for the date? He suddenly feels like meeting new people since he plans to keep exploring his choices.
"Jeongin."
He manifests it so hard that it becomes true but he reminds himself to keep calm about it even though he feels excited to meet the new girl before anyone else.
-
JEONGIN: I mean... the timing is impeccable [Grins]
-
"The other new arrival also has been given a choice of dating one of the girls currently in couples," Lana continues.
It's the girls' turn to get excited and Jeongin has no problem if Justine gets picked, that way he wouldn't feel bad about going on a date with the new girl.
"He has selected..."
Justine taps Courtney's knee, hinting that it's probably her chance even though she won't be selected because she's not in a couple.
It's either her, Justine, or Bianca.
"Bianca."
"Thank fuck for that," Kurt lowly mutters, grateful that the new guy doesn't choose Francoise.
"This really is about testing the waters, huh?" Linda says, being the only one enjoying this.
Well, Jeongin feels a sense of relief that he's not as established as Damon and Bianca because, for them, it could be a test to see how genuine their connection is.
"Jeongin and Bianca, please go and get ready for your dates," Lana orders.
Jeongin lets Bianca lead the way to the villa and goes straight to the dressing room to get ready.
Bianca plops down on her usual spot on the vanity table and reclines on her chair, "This is crazy..." she sighs.
He goes to his closet to pick something to wear, this is a date so he's definitely putting an extra effort to build his outfit.
"I'm having a date and it's not with Damon," Bianca sighs again.
Jeongin starts by picking a shirt from the ones he brought, pondering whether he's going for a plain shirt or with prints.
Bianca turns her head to look at Jeongin, then asks, "Do you think your head will be turned?"
That stops him from whatever he's doing, he turns to look back at her and answers, "I don't think I'll be tempted..."
Then he settles on a decision to wear a plain white ribbed shirt and takes it out of the hanger, "Unless she's a gorgeous girl with beautiful eyes," he suddenly adds.
Bianca laughs because she thinks Jeongin is confident about staying loyal to Justine until she hears the rest of his sentence.
"Eyes are your weaknesses, huh?" She asks.
"Yes."
"Well, we'll see," Bianca says, starting to do her make-up as she speaks.
And Jeongin can't wait to find out what you look like.
-
LANA: I have given our new arrivals one free kiss to use on their dates. They think I'm just being generous, but in reality, I want to see how Jeongin and Bianca, who are both in relationships, react if offered a fine-free kiss.
-
The date takes place somewhere quite far from the villa.
Jeongin part ways with Bianca when they get to the beach as she goes in the opposite direction and he has to walk the rest of the distance by himself. The staff has prepared a picnic with its classic checkered picnic mat and a basket of what he can safely assume is filled with food.
Being the first one to get there, he sits down and leisurely waits for the new girl by looking at the view from this part of the island he has never been to.
Jeongin gets more nervous the longer he waits for the new girl to come. When you do finally come, he's getting even more nervous that he can hear his heart beating loudly in his ears.
You gracefully wave your hand at him to announce your arrival, looking an absolute lush in a white bikini and a see-through skirt that does nothing to cover your body but floats around your hips as the wind blows your way.
Jeongin gets up and prepares himself to welcome you, putting on a smile that is way too easy to conjure. You are only a few steps away but he already likes what he's seeing.
"Hello," you softly say, introducing your name as you exchange a quick cheek-to-cheek.
"Jeongin," he introduces himself back with a smile that matches the excitement bubbling inside him.
With the afternoon sun hits you right in the eyes, they appear wide and bright, and Jeongin believes those eyes are going to get him in danger.
-
JEONGIN: Lana brought out my dream girl to test me. Fuck!
-
"This place is amazing," you delightfully say as you stare out at the sea with the sun slowly sinking into the horizon.
Jeongin is busy filling the glasses with a cocktail mix and tries not to spill a drop. But he knows exactly what you're talking about, he's been living here for a few days and never gets tired of the view.
"Oh, it's paradise," he adds.
He hands one of the drinks to you and without anyone initiating it, you both clink your glasses together for a toast.
"Cheers!" You both mutter in unison.
It's when he has swallowed his drink, he finds your eyes on him again and since you already caught him staring, he may as well use the opportunity to admire your face. There's no denying that you're beautiful but the eyes... he can't stop staring into them.
"You have beautiful eyes," you say, as if you heard his thought and say it out loud for him.
He sheepishly smiles and brushes his hair to the back, "So do you. You're uh... really pretty," he shyly compliments back.
You tuck your hair behind your ear and smack your lips together before talking, "As soon as I flicked past your photo, I was like, yeah, that one," you share with a mix of shy and seductive smiles.
Jeongin's hand flies to his ear and he hopes that they're not turning red from these compliments. He looks away to calm himself down but continues talking, "Really? What is your type?"
"Like you," you answer without a beat.
When Jeongin looks at you again, your eyes automatically lock in a gaze, "I like pretty, bad boys like you."
This time, Jeongin is sure that his ears are reddening and his cheeks are also heating.
"What's your type?" You ask back, sipping your cocktail after.
"I don't have a type," he starts to find it hard to think, "Even if there is, it's always changing."
"Then how about now? What's your type?" You ask, playing with the mini umbrella in your drink and eyes that are doing things to his heart.
Are you really asking? Or do you want him to tell you that he has found his type just now?
"Beautiful eyes, uh... great smiles, good chat," he stutters his words, knowing that he has just described you. He then quickly sips his drink to help clear his throat.
You lightly chuckle then make this gesture with your index finger, drawing a ticking mark in the air as you say, "Tick, tick, tick."
-
JEONGIN: I'm really enjoying getting to know her even though she's so tempting.
-
The way you sit on your side with a hand propped against the mat, Jeongin can see every curve of your body, the ascents and descents, and gosh, he likes what he sees.
"You've got a great body," he blurts out and at this point, he just can't control his brain from saying things without filtering it first.
Surprisingly, you take it well and with a smile, "Thanks."
You sit straighter to show him your form and put all of your hair to the back, "I worked hard on it."
"Yeah?" Jeongin asks in wonder.
But you seem to take it as a doubtful response from him and you get up, kneeling on the mat to remove the thin skirt wrapped around your hips.
"It's all natural," you confirm, running your hands down the side of your body.
If he were in some cartoons, Jeongin's eyes would be popped out of their sockets at the sight of your body. It evokes something in him that makes his throat suddenly dry.
You sit back down on the mat and pick up your drink, "Let's make it fair," you say.
Jeongin gulps air to be able to speak, "huh?"
"I'd like to see you with your shirt off," you say, a naughty smile dancing on your pretty face.
He has no problems showing you his body, he worked hard on it too but he doesn't want to spoil it to you right away.
"You'll see it off," he teases, surprised that he's still got game in him despite his brain barely functioning.
"Okay," you simply say, then bring your glass close to your lips but not drinking it.
Just so you know, Jeongin also has a thirst for something else.
-
JEONGIN: She has all of my attention. I'm just not thinking about anything else.
-
Jeongin takes the food out of the picnic basket and lays it out on the side of the mat, a bowl of sliced fruits while the other bowl is filled with melted chocolate.
"Why are you sitting so far away from me?" You ask, pointing out the big space between the two of you.
Even in this distance, he can feel the heat and the tension between the two of you. He doesn't want to know what would it feel like to be in such proximity with you.
"Come closer! I don’t bite," you cutely whine, putting a cushion to where you want him to be.
"Okay, maybe, just a little?" You add a joke and a giggle.
Jeongin relents, he scoots closer to you yet maintains a safe space in between. He watches as you open the bowl of sliced fruits and take out a piece, dipping it in the chocolate before feeding it to him.
He hurriedly leans closer and opens his mouth for you, he manages to eat it alright but the chocolate drips onto the corner of his mouth.
"You like to get messy, do you?" He jokingly says, cluelessly wiping around the mouth.
"Yes, I do," you confidently answer.
You're quick to offer your help to clean it for him, wipe it with your thumb, and not hesitate to lick it clean after.
He then takes his turn to pick up a slice of fruit and dips it into the chocolate, he carefully brings it close to your mouth. You hold his wrist to keep his hand steady as you take it into your mouth and keep holding his hand to clean the chocolate coating his finger.
It does something to him seeing you taking his finger into your mouth and also feels how hot and wet the inside of your mouth is.
"Mmh... yum," you delightfully hum as you pull his finger out of you.
-
JEONGIN: The longer this date goes on, the more I can't resist her.
-
There's so much sexual chemistry here and it's getting heavy that Jeongin doesn't know how long he can go on, you are literally too hot to handle.
Your hand reaches for his face, using only your fingertips to trail his jawline, and then rest your hand on his thigh. The two of you are staring into each other’s eyes but he can tell that your minds are thinking the same things.
"Kiss me," you say out of the blue.
As if making his head feel like a scrambled egg isn't enough for you. He can't remember if Lana has briefed you on what kind of show you're in and that you ask him to do something he's not allowed to do.
"You do know it's Too Hot To Handle, right?" He asks with his brows furrowed, feeling bad if the answer is no but he's more afraid to know the answer is yes.
"I do know," you tell him, your hand inching closer to the hem of his swimming trunk.
The tension is getting unbearable and Jeongin feels like it's weighing down his chest, making it hard for him to breathe.
"Lana told me that I get a free kiss without getting fined," you explain, tipping your head to the side while your fingers are lightly caressing his inner thigh.
His brain is close to short-circuit yet he tries so hard to think straight and what would happen if he does certain things with you.
"I do want to," he says.
A smile rises on your face and your eyes light up the second you hear his answer.
Jeongin doesn't want to see those glints in your eyes disappear when he tells you about Justine but he doesn't want to hide it from you either.
"It's just like... there's a girl inside there," he says, not giving you the detailed information.
That doesn't seem to stop you as your eyes remain wide and bright as you tip your head to the other side and hold his gaze, "Is she special to you?"
Special? Jeongin isn't sure about that so he settles on a safe answer, "It's only been a few days so I can't really tell."
You smack your lips together again, tantalizing him with how plump and soft they look to him.
"I don't see the damage in it. If anything, we'll know if there's sparks between us," you give such a strong argument to him.
It takes every bone in his body not to try and kiss you right this very second. He may have said Justine is not that special but kissing another girl behind her back... that's not how he wants it to go.
"Come on," you tease, leaning closer to his face.
His heart leaps when you place a soft kiss on his cheek and rub the lipstick mark after.
"I know you want it," you lowly mutter, teasing him more with your sultry voice.
He doesn't know if you notice but his body is slightly shaking from constantly resisting the urge to fill his desire to kiss you and his hands are gripping the picnic mat to not get them anywhere close to you.
"I do want to kiss you," he breathlessly says as if it takes all of him to admit that.
You smile in satisfaction, leaning in to land another soft kiss on his jaw to give him a taste of your lips. Your lips linger close to his ear to sweetly whisper, "Come on, Jeongin."
-
JEONGIN: I am so tempted. I don't know what to do [Exhales]

hi angel! I have a little fictober request … can I pls get holding hands for the first time from the prompt list with steve harrington and shy!reader? maybe they’re in a busy place and steve doesn’t want to lose r so he grabs her hand, not realising how ridiculously flustered she gets <3333
ty for requesting angel :D this can be read as a part two to this fic!
summary: steve takes you to a mall in the city in a desperate attempt to spend time with you, fending off freaks, douchebags, and your anxious tendencies alike (shy!reader, hurt/comfort, friends to lovers cw for mentions of anxiety, 3.5k)
fictober leftovers (㇏(•̀ᵥᵥ•́)ノ)
Steve idles between the X-rated horror and thriller sections for several long minutes until he works up the courage to talk to you. You’re a pretty little thing behind the counter, hand in your palm as you scribble into the journal Keith threatened to confiscate from you earlier that morning.
He’s never been this nervous to talk to you. Things are different now. Post-first date, and Steve’s still toeing that wretched line between friends and something more. The puppy love is so painfully mutual, but it’s equally hard to navigate. He can’t come on too strong — not with someone as soft as you — but he’s still got some King Steve left in him. He’s still learning how to be gentle.
With sweaty hands, he walks up to the counter and tries to be subtle about the whole thing. Stealthy, like a ninja. He leans on his folded-up arms and blurts before he means to, “So you’re, like, totally coming tomorrow, right?”
You lift your chin and blink at him with wide eyes. You hadn’t heard him come over, too busy doodling a bunch of nothingness in your notebook. Your stomach whirls at the sight of him. It takes you a moment too long to answer.
“Coming… where?”
“To the mall,” he reminds, then corrects himself with a shrug. “The one in the city— not the shithole we have here.”
“Oh. Uh, I don’t— I don’t know,” you stammer. Steve invited you earlier that week, and you promised to think about it. You did. And you want so desperately to go, but your brain’s too mean, and it just won’t let you.
The disappointment that flashes on his face is fleeting, but you don’t miss it. The hurt softens his features in an unbearable way. It makes your chest ache.
“C’mon,” Steve presses in a gentle lilt. He leans closer to you, eyes twinkling and lips curling. “It could be fun, you know? I mean, everyone’s gonna be there.”
He’s trying his best to persuade you. He has no idea that that’s exactly what’s keeping you from going. Crowds are always stress-inducing, even those of the familiar kind.
“Everyone as in…?”
“Robin, obviously. Dustin, too,” Steve answers, counting on his fingers as he goes. “Max is coming, but Lucas has a basketball thing, so he can’t. And the rest of the little shits are in California, so that’s definitely a plus.”
It’s a dumb joke, but it makes you laugh anyway — a quiet giggle of a thing that makes him grin.
“Uh… Eddie’s coming, too, I think— but don’t let that dissuade you, alright? I promise I’ll protect you from that freak. You don’t have to worry about him.”
You smile because you know he’s joking. You’ve met Eddie a couple times now. He’s always been really sweet to you. Him and Steve just have a strange complex that forces them to be assholes to each other.
“And also, I’m gonna be there. Obviously. So…” he trails off with a wavering smile. So if you don’t wanna come for them, maybe you can come for me, is what he’s really trying to tell you.
“I don’t know,” you repeat, quieter now as you shrink into yourself. You try and fail to meet Steve’s honeyed gaze. “I just feel like I’ll make everything all weird.”
His bushy brows pinch, almost in offense that you’d think you’re anything less than totally perfect. “Why would you think that?”
“‘Cause… I don’t know,” you murmur in a quiet sigh. You don’t want to lie to him, but telling the truth feels so much harder. “They don’t really know me, you know? And I feel like… like I’ll just ruin everything if I’m there…”
It takes Steve a couple of seconds to answer you. He doesn’t know how you could say something that — like you don’t light up every room you’re in. “Well, that’s… that’s just not true,” he argues with a shrug. “They like you. They love you, actually— they just wanna get to know you. And the only way they’re gonna get to know you is if you come hang out every once in a while.”
Your heart flutters. You want to believe him. It’s hard for you to comprehend that anyone could care so much about your presence, so you just nod and don’t say anything further.
Steve is quick to comfort you, almost like he can read your mind. “But if you think it’s gonna be too much, you could always just stick with me. I’ll fend off the freaks for you, no problem.”
His cinnamon eyes glimmer with honey. He looks at you far too fondly to say no.
—————
There’s six of you crammed into Steve’s 733i. It’s already a tight fit, but it’s more suffocating when it’s full of a million different conversations. Almost all of them are pointed your way. Steve tries to bat everyone off of you, but it’s hard to yell at everyone and drive at the same time.
You’re being a pretty good sport about it despite how anxiously helpless you feel.
You wring your clammy hands in your lap and try to regulate your bated breaths, nodding to whatever Max is telling you. It’s hard to hear her because Eddie’s talking to you, too. You’re too scared he’ll think you’re mean if you stop him.
You watch Robin reach for the radio, complaining about all the yelling as she turns up the volume. The cheesy pop song is all you can hear. The conversations around you become a monotone buzzing. You feel like you could just about explode.
“Jesus, you guys are acting like you’ve never seen another person before,” Steve shouts over it all, the only definite thing you can understand. “Let her breathe before she thinks we’re all a bunch of lunatics, alright?”
He’s met with a bunch of muffled complaints, but the noise quietens nonetheless.
Steve glances at you in the rearview, a quick check to make sure you’re still okay. You catch him doing it and try your best to give him a smile. It looks more like a wince.
“Well, it’s your fault for finally bringing someone cool around,” Max argues with all her practiced teenaged ambiguity. “I have to spend all day surrounded by freaks— at least now there’s someone halfway normal to talk to.”
“I’m normal!” Steve insists, face twisted in offense.
“You’re a jock.”
“Hey. C’mon, Red,” Eddie scolds, so obviously playful. “Let’s not go throwing the j-word around—”
The brunette boy huffs. “Thank you!”
“—Jock would imply that Steve’s still cool,” the wild-haired boy continues. “Which he isn’t.”
Poorly hidden laughter fills the small car. Steve nods and mutters beneath it all, “Yeah. Okay. Thanks for the clarification, Munson.”
He glances at you again and finds you cracking a halfway sincere smile. He shoots you a light-hearted glare. “Don’t laugh! You’re just encouraging him!”
“Sorry,” you apologize, hiding your giggle behind your fist. “’M sorry.”
Steve smiles at you, silently tells you he doesn’t really mean it. He’d let Musnon make fun of him all day if he thought it meant he’d get to hear you laugh like that again.
—————
You take your first good breath in an hour when you step out of the car.
Steve shuts it off and gravitates towards you on instinct. His honey eyes are wide as they dart across your flustered features. You see his hands reach towards you, to grab your elbows maybe, but he decides against it.
“You okay?”
“Yeah,” you nod, quicker than you mean to. “I’m good.”
“Okay. I’m sorry. I really tried to—”
“I know,” you cut him off with a sweet, still quiet smile. “It’s still okay.”
He sighs heavy, like a deep breath of relief. “Okay. Good,” he hums, almost to himself, nodding with a pink grin you could stare at all day. He would’ve let you, but neither of you get the chance.
Your friends start messing around, and the chaos melts into the buzzing crowd surrounding you, and you realize the two of you aren’t the only people on earth. Bummer.
You gather around the large map at the entrance of the bustling mall. “Where should we go first?” Dustin chirps from the front of the crowd. His eyes are as wide as his smile. “Game Player? Sam Goody? Oh, look— they have a RadioShack! I’ve been looking for a new supercomm. It’s on the other side of the building, though, but we can just work our way around, I guess—”
“Jesus, Dusty-Bun,” Robin interjects with a gritty laugh. She stands on the outside of the group, arms crossed over her chest, effortlessly too cool for it all. “Take a breath, buddy.”
“Don’t call me that!” the boy gripes over his right shoulder.
Steve shrugs. “Go wherever you want to. I don’t care.”
Dustin looks to his left, shooting the older boy a glare. “Aren’t you supposed to be the babysitter?”
“You’re fourteen!”
“Well, what if I get kidnapped?”
“No one’s kidnapping you, alright? Trust me,” Steve jokes, only smiling when he sees you trying to hide yours. He puts his hands on his waist and cocks his hip to the side. “They’ll send you right back where you came from. You have nothing to worry about.”
Dustin squints. “Rude.”
“We’ll just meet back at the food court in, like, two hours. And if you don’t get yourself killed, you’ll be fine,” Steve reasons with a nonchalant shrug and a jutted-out lip.
“Oh. Wow. Thanks, Steve. What would I ever do without you?”
He rolls his cinnamon eyes at the boy’s monotone. “Alright, smartass.”
When the rest of the group dissipates, he leans over to nudge your shoulder. It knocks you from your stupor — so deep in your own head you were practically drowning. You blink at him with wide, glassy eyes. “Hm?”
“Do you wanna go anywhere?” he asks with a wavering smile. His laugh is equally forced. “You’re kinda staring a hole into the map there…”
“Oh. No. I was just…” you trail off with a shake of your head. You’re not entirely sure what to tell him, how to make him understand your easily overstimulated mind. “I was just distracted. Sorry.”
“It’s okay. No big deal.”
“Where did everyone else go?” you wonder with a furrow to your brow, noticing the lack of familiar chaos around you.
“Eddie and Dustin went to some movie store, and I think Robin and Max are on the hunt for cassettes.”
“Okay...” you nod with a tremble in your voice.
You’re still not totally used to being alone with Steve. Your friends are usually good distractions. They fill your awkward silences with something funnier and talk loud when you get too quiet. When they’re not around it’s just… awkward silences and quiet air.
You get too in your own head, so eager to impress the pretty boy beside you, that you end up putting your foot in your mouth.
Steve doesn’t seem nearly as apprehensive. Instead, he’s beaming at the fact that he’s finally got you alone. He doesn’t have to worry about quieting Dustin when he gets too loud or shoving Eddie away when he forgets what personal space is. It’s quieter with just the two of you — warmer, cozier, easier.
“Wanna go down to the food court?” he wonders, honey eyes sparkling when he looks your way. “I know you haven’t eaten anything yet, so…”
Your eyes narrow, accusing and playful. “How would you know that?”
“Uh, ‘cause I know you,” the boy scoffs like it’s obvious. “I basically have to force you to eat every morning.”
“That’s not true!”
“It so is!” Steve giggles and it’s heaven to your ears, the exact sound of honey. “That’s why I hate not opening with you. ‘Cause if I’m not around to force you to eat the other half of my Poptart, I’m just, like, worrying if you’re withering away or not.”
Your face burns hot. Your heart swells with a similar warmth that borders on painful. You didn’t think he cared so much about you — or that he ever thought about you outside of work or the occasional hangout.
“Fine,” you concede with your arms crossed over your chest, trying not to seem as flustered as you feel. “Let’s go to the food court.”
Steve grins. He follows you in stride when you start to head that way. “Cool. We can go get one of those disgustingly good burgers or something.”
“For breakfast?” you wonder with a light-hearted laugh.
“Yeah! Like, one of those crazy huge ones, you know? The patties are, like, the size of your fist— make a fist.”
You do. You ball your fingers and hold them up between you. Steve holds onto your wrist for further inspection, fingers long and warm and soft. You swallow.
“Bigger than your fist,” he corrects with a laugh. The sweet sound is drowned out by the swell of yelling teenagers. They talk so loudly and over one another that their conversations become a meaningless drones.
Two in particular shove at one another, laughing loud like it’s fun. One of them almost barrels into you — long blonde hair, tight shirt, tighter jeans, and cologne so potent it stings your nose. He just narrowly misses you, mostly because Steve’s there to yank you out of the way.
The boy’s gentle grip on you tightens. He pulls you close until you’re stumbling into his side. With a strong arm wrapped around you, he shouts at the roughhousing teens — “Watch where you’re going, assholes!”
The scrawny boys walk on ahead of you. They seem apologetic, halfway scared at first. When they realize Steve’s not rushing to beat their asses, they chuckle about the whole thing and keep punching each other.
You’re still frozen in shock — not so much of fear anymore, but of how tightly Steve’s holding onto you. It’s an embrace of the firmer kind, a touch so solid you feel immediately safer inside it. You don’t think you’ve ever been this close before. The teenage girl in your heart starts to spin.
“You okay?” Steve asks when the anger ebbs.
“Yeah,” you nod, swallowing tightly and forcing an awkward laugh. “You don’t have to keep asking me that, you know?”
He nods rapidly, then notices how close he’s holding you. Fearful that he’s made you uncomfortable, he uncurls his arm from around you and takes a small step back. “No, I know! I just wanna— I just wanna make sure, you know? ‘Cause I know you don’t like… all this.”
He waves his hands vaguely out beside him.
You’re immediately cold without him holding you. You wrap your arms around yourself to compensate for the lack of him.
“Yeah, but… It’s not the rest of the world’s fault that I’m scared of everything,” you say with another forced laugh, shifting your weight on your feet. If you could melt into your oversized sweater, you would. “It’s mine. So I can deal with it. I have to deal with it.”
Steve nods, slower this time and with a silent sense of understanding. He steps closer to you and shrugs. “I think the least I can do is make it a little easier on you… And I feel like I’ve been doing the exact opposite of that all day.”
“That’s not true,” you argue with the shake of your head.
His chocolate eyes widen. You’re rarely so assertive. “No?”
“No,” you answer, softer this time as you grow sheepish all over again. Your unsure gaze darts from your dirty sneakers to his twinkling eyes until it makes you dizzy. “You’re actually making it more bearable for me, so…”
“Oh. Okay. Good,” he nods with a smile, breathless because his chest is swelling with pride. He knows the world can be a little much for someone as soft as you. It’s good to know that he’s the exception to all that.
He gets lost in the way you look at him for a moment too long. He clears his throat and stammers, “Uh, do you still wanna go get food?” he asks, pointing off beside him. “We can find somewhere quiet to eat so we don’t have to deal with teenage douchebags the entire time.”
Your heart lurches into your throat. It’s practically your love language — spending time alone in a quiet space, with no overt need for conversation or people to fill the void.
You nod, trying and failing to hide the beam on your face. “Yeah. That’d be nice.”
—————
The quiet place in question is a photo booth on the halfway vacant, furthest end of the mall. Closed curtains, small spaces, and entwined breaths. It smells like his deep cologne, your perfume, and a freshly cooked meal. It’s too easy to forget that there’s a whole world outside of here.
You sit twisted on the bench, facing Steve with your burger trays in front of you. You pluck salty fries from the plate with a trembling hand, distantly fearful that you’re not supposed to be eating here. You think being so close to Steve is worth the risk.
“Is this the day you were expecting to have?” Steve asks with a lopsided grin. He takes a big bite of his burger right after and gets mustard on the corner of his mouth.
“No,” you answer, giggling as he swipes the stain away with his tongue. “But not because it’s bad.”
“Hm?” he hums to egg you on. He’s got too much of a mouthful for anything else.
“Mm-mm,” you shake your head, equally nonverbal as you chew on a handful of fry crumbs. You swipe your palms together to dispel the grains of salt. “I’m having more fun than I thought I would, actually.”
Steve scoffs in disbelief. “Spending time with me? Alone in a photo booth? That’s a good time to you?”
His tone makes you self-conscious. You feel a little shameful, like a child, because you don’t need much to be entertained. You get all warm with embarrassment, too. Being alone with Steve has always felt like climbing mountains — something short of an adrenaline rush that makes you think you could conquer the world. Maybe you’re too small in comparison to do the same for him.
“Yeah,” you shrug in an inaudible murmur. “I don’t know— I just… I like spending time with you, you know? I don’t really care what we’re doing.”
Steve’s chest swells. From a girl who too often keeps to herself, inherently nervous and incessantly frightened of being a burden, it’s more of a proclamation of love than he ever thought he’d get from you.
“Well, I’m glad we’re on the same page,” he confesses with a crooked pink grin, internally praying his cheeks aren’t as red hot as they feel.
He holds his half-eaten burger out towards you. You knock yours with his, clinking them together like champagne glasses. He takes another too big bite. You go to do the same but get a whiff of the sleeve of your sweater before you can.
“God, I smell like a teenage boy,” you groan, only half-playful. The nose-burning musk from the kid from before has seemingly stuck itself onto you. Like fruit and sage and wood and vanilla, every scent ever made combined.
“I wasn’t gonna say anything, but you definitely smell like bodyspray,” Steve affirms, scruffy cheeks jutted out from the burger in his mouth.
“I think I’ve been tainted,” you giggle, a quieter sound compared to his boyish laughter. “Thanks for saving me, by the way.”
You’re saying it to be nice, but you watch him get all shy about it when you take a bite of your sandwich. He shifts on the bench, like he suddenly can’t get comfortable. When he rubs his palms on his thighs, you can’t tell if it’s because of the salty fries or because they’re clammy.
“Yeah— I didn’t mean to— I didn’t mean to grab you like that,” he stammers with an apologetic twinkle in his eye and a gaze that can’t quite meet yours. “Just so you know. I was just trying to—”
“Save me?” you interject.
Steve smiles when he sees how softly you’re looking at him. He shrugs. “Well, I was gonna say ‘pull you from the line of fire,’ but sure.”
“It’s okay,” you repeat for perhaps the thousandth time that day. “I didn’t mind. It felt nice, actually— you have really warm hands.”
“That’s ‘cause yours are always ice cold.”
“Well, maybe that’s because you’re not holding them,” you blurt before you mean to.
You freeze mid-bite, eyes wide in distant horror as your blood runs cold. In a desperate attempt to break away from the awkwardness you caused, you muster a trembling smile. “I’m kidding,” you murmur, halfway hidden behind your burger.
You weren’t.
Steve knows this, too, so he smiles.
He’d been thinking about it all day, in truth — how he was gonna get to hold your hand without having to stick his foot in his mouth to ask you. Turns out, a series of unfortunate events and an impromptu date in a photo booth was all it took. And he’s grateful. For all of it.
“No, you weren’t,” he teases, fingers as warm as his smile when he wraps them around yours. He holds gently onto your hand — even though it makes eating a little harder, even though your fingers are cold, even though you tremble.

Can I ask from this ask game for Klance (all of the questions)? Thanks 🧁
https://www.tumblr.com/comingfromastatechampionasshole/119898100247?source=share
These are the questions in the post:
1. Which one is the better cook At first, Lance, having learned with his family. But Keith works hard to get better once he understands he's not just cooking for himself anymore.
2. What their love letters look like Lance: Heartfelt, thoughtful notes. Keith: Luv u 2.
3. Which one outlives the other, and how they cope For some reason I gotta say Keith outlives Lance, but they've old and have had such a long, happy life together, he can say with affection and not grief: "Looks like in the end you did leave me, too" knowing that it was all worth it.
4.What they do on date night Fuck. But also, I'd think their dates start out as big, romantic events, but eventually morph into them just chilling at home or going on walks.
5. How many kids they'll have I think they'd adopt at least one, totally by accident. Just end up taking home an orphan they found on a mission with the intent to find them another home. But they all get too attached.
6. How they decorated their bedroom However Lance wants it decorated. Keith puts up one picture, taped to the wall, just to appease him when Lance complains that he shouldn't have all the say in their shared space.
7. Which one is the worse driver Lance is the safe driver. Keith is the reckless driver. But neither are bad.
8. What they argue about The absolute most meaningless stuff. And sometimes they have heated discussions about how the other has so much more worth than they think of themself.
9. Which one swears more Lance.
10. What TV shows they watch together, and which ones they hide from the other Not sure about watch, but I feel like Lance secretly got Keith into trashy reality TV and he will never let Lance find out.
11. What their first impression was of each other Lance: "Oh, he's cute. What? No he's not. Why'd I just think that? I hate him, now. Yeah." Keith: "He's loud."
12. What they do for their anniversary Again. Fuck. But also I'd think Lance starts out by making such a huge deal about anniversaries, he sparks competition in Keith, and eventually they both try to outdo the other in making the day special and meaningful.
13. Which makes a bigger deal of birthdays Lance. 100%.
14. What nicknames they call each other Lance: "Red." Keith doesn't really use nicknames. But sometimes "sweetheart."
15. What they would change about each other Lance: Would appreciate it if Keith would consider that his life doesn't just affect him alone anymore. Keith: Would love it if Lance would stop referring to himself as stupid and useless sometimes.
That was fun! Thanks for the ask. :)

CH 2 𓆣 James Potter x Slytherin Reader summary: you could have worse company... you could also have less annoying company... WC: 4.5k ✩₊˚.⋆☾⋆⁺₊✧
Sixth year ended uneventfully.
You had a few more run-ins with Kaston, most involving insults, the occasional tripping or knock of your books out of your hand. The typical pure-blood ideology bullshit was sent Lance’s way too when he was around. Keith only hexed him once.
Classes went well enough after final examinations were completed and you received report of your grades. Packing up your dorm for the summer resembled shoving things into your bags the day before boarding the Hogwarts Express. That was it. Your sixth year was done and you had three whole months spending time with your family, enjoying the weather and exchanging letters with your friends until you got to see them.
Most importantly, you had three months of no magic.
You almost felt guilty how relieved you felt not being around wizards each day. You didn’t feel like you were behind, always playing catch up on their way of life.
Your new found peace ended with your Hogwarts letter calling for you to return at the end of August. Your parents seemed almost disappointed when you told them you wanted to go school shopping alone, your heart broke at the way their excitement fell, plastering on a smile and chalking it up to you just wanting to be mature.
You let them think that. It seemed a lot easier to let them believe instead of the fact that returning to Diagon Alley with your muggle loved ones seemed like they would just be in danger. So they agreed, making sure you planned your trip with Lance and Keith so you wouldn’t be on your own.
Flourish and Blotts was relatively busy, the once lazy feeling in the air associated with summer turning to an excited hum for the upcoming school year. You were still waiting on the arrival of your friends as you stood between the shelves. You hadn’t been able to refrain yourself from grabbing the most recent edition of The Daily Prophet and flipping through its pages.
Sometimes you wondered if the war was truly ever going to end.
It seemed as if you’d missed a summer of awful news; more disappearances of muggles and muggle borns, their families found killed in their homes. Hogwarts and magic had once been exciting, filling the gaps in your life with wonder the more you saw and learned. Along the years of whispered threats and hissed insults at your back, you felt like you’d been chased away from your prior love of the Wizarding World.
You were too enthralled in reading to notice a group of boys chasing each other into the store.
Sirius accused Peter of stealing his recently purchased sugar quill as they stomped through the store. James was too busy reading through the list of things he and Sirius were supposed to purchase today to keep Euphemia Potter from being cross. Remus hid his smirk behind the stick of the sugar quill hanging from his mouth.
When James glanced up from his list, the sight of you between the shelves they had just passed made him do a double take. For some reason, he just stopped in his tracks. He was staring, he knew that he was but he couldn’t bring himself to stop. You looked more or less the same aside from having gotten some sun and your hair gaining a little length.
It wasn’t like he was watching you in a weird way… just… watching.
“You going to go over there or just keep staring,” Sirius whispered in his ear before blowing into it. James jumped slightly as Sirius whispered in his ear, a scowl instantly forming on his face as he playfully smacked the back of his head.
Laughing at his own antics, Sirius leaned back, raising an eyebrow in question as he settled against one of the shelves.
“You’ve never been the quiet type before,” Remus murmured as he read the back of a book, “Even with Lily, you’d be tripping over your own feet to talk to her.”
"What are you-" James began, but the words got caught in his throat as he glanced up and spotted you once again. “This is- This is nothing like with Evans! I was just looking!”
Sirius snorted, “More like drooling.”
James’s mouth dropped uncontrollably, snapping shut in the hope that he could look unbothered.
"I was certainly not," he muttered under his breath, his confidence sounding more like false bravado.
“Want me to wipe your chin, Prongs?”
“Want me to smack you right in the store?”
Thank Merlin you were both far enough away and too engrossed in The Daily Profit to even look up.
Remus continued browsing the spines of books. “And yet, you are stalling,” he teased, not even bothering to glance up.
James was instantly on the defensive, his eyes narrowing as he shot Remus a dirty look. "Just because I'm not rushing over there doesn't mean anything," James muttered. His eyes returned to the piece of paper in his hands.
“Why don’t you go talk to her then?” Sirius smiled smugly, barely able to contain how humorous he found the sight. “Instead of standing here like an idiot.”
"Oh, he’s got it bad,” Remus hummed with feigned sympathy. .
“Is this how you usually land girls then?” Peter, a better actor than all of them, cocked his head to the side, “by staring at them from across a store?”
Sirius was nearly doubled over as he tried to stifle his laughter to keep himself quiet. Leaning forward to rest his forehead against the wood, Remus clapped a hand on Peter's shoulder, the both of them chuckling.
“You know, you’re a real git, you know that, right?” James hissed, his voice sounding more frustrated than menacing. He turned to glare around at the other Marauders, who seemed to be taking great pleasure in witnessing his predicament.
Scoffing, his face turned even redder, shoving the list back into his pocket. "I'll have you know I am a certified charmer." He tried to say this with confidence, but even Peter's words had chipped away at his normally impenetrable ego.
Sirius just laughed harder behind his hand.
"I was simply... trying to decide on the best way to approach her.” James was trying to maintain some semblance of his usual charm.
"You're not even approaching her," Remus pointed out dryly, his lips twitching with a barely suppressed smile.
The other three boys shared a look, one that had Peter and Remus slipping away while Sirius hung an arm around James’s shoulder.
“Listen mate, you’re getting too into your own head. Sure, she may not necessarily be the biggest fan of you and your ego, but she doesn’t hate you- in fact! Once in a while you make her laugh at your own expense.” Both of them moved in your direction, James finding himself nodding.
“So, remember you’re a gryffindor, quite being a big baby, and talk to her.” As Sirius finished giving his advice, he was all too ecstatic to give him a shove.
James stumbled forward, catching himself just in time to avoid falling directly into you. He could hear the sound of Sirius' laughter in the distance, but he ignored it as he found himself face-to-face with you when you had startled.
Both of your eyes were wide for different reasons, yours in surprise and his in… well also surprise but because he really hadn’t planned on having to catch himself on a shelf at the last second. At least he had crushed you.
You visibly relaxed at the realization that it wasn’t a threat, just an idiot.
One that you didn’t hate horribly.
“Hi James,” you drew out skeptically, amused nonetheless.
His strange behavior fell away to reveal his usual charismatic appeal as he gave you a roguish smile. James adjusted his arm gripping the bookshelf where it caught his fall to lean against it with his forearm. You were sure you had seen him like this many times before.
Usually it involved the Hogwarts library, Lilly Evans and an attempt at flirting.
“Hi.” As if he remembered that himself, he stood up straighter and cleared his throat. “Fancy seeing you here.”
You frowned in thought, “Is it? I didn’t think it was all that unexpected given most students do their shopping on the weekend.”
You were unaware that James was half listening to what you were saying, and half shooting a dirty look to the other Marauders when they peaked out from behind a bookshelf. You didn’t see it, too busy trying to make sense of James, something you gave up on long ago.
“Have a good holiday then?” James asked abruptly, grinning as he turned his attention back to you.
“I’d say so, spent time at home, a little bit of traveling with my family, relaxing,” you shrugged, “Nothing special. What about you? Heard Black moved in with you. Your poor mother.”
James let out a snort of laughter, a warm smile spreading across his face. You didn’t hesitate to feel as lively as he looked.
"Yeah, she was not thrilled that we accidentally crashed our brooms into her garden multiple times, but she loves us both nonetheless," he said with a chuckle, shaking his head. Even though the conversation about the situation was lighthearted, you knew that Sirius leaving the house of Black was no small event.
"As if I wasn't bad enough, they now get two of us.” He shrugged, his hands slipping into his pockets as he leaned back casually against the bookshelf. The sight of the other Marauders watching them from a distance was not lost on him, but he chose to ignore it for the moment. “So eh, yeah. I guess it was a good summer, It was great having Sirius there with me. He could always crack a joke that would make even a dementor laugh.”
“That’s good, I’m glad to hear it.”
A group of Ravenclaw girls slipped by, greeting you both before erupting into a fit of giggles once they’d passed. You were at least grateful to know that you weren’t the object of their laughter. The thing about being in James Potter’s presence was that he always outshined you. That was fine by you as long as it kept any negative attention from hanging over your head.
Clearly they were giggling about having successfully said hello to him.
“You finish your shopping then?”
A movement behind him caught your attention as you opened your mouth, “No, just started actually. Waiting to meet with Lance and Keith at The Leaky Cauldron in twenty minutes.”
"I think I have a couple left as well," he said a little too enthusiastically, clearing his throat with a nonchalant wave of his hand. "Why don't we, you know, shop together?"
You raised an eyebrow at the offer. Sure, maybe James had been a witness to your moment of weakness last year, but it wasn’t like the two of you had even exchanged letters this summer. But he looked so earnest about the offer, you felt like saying no would make him look like a kid who just watched you kick a puppy.
So you smiled, albeit a bit unsurely, you smiled nonetheless.
“Uh, sure.”
He instantly brightened, bright enough to hurt your eyes like you had stared directly into the sun. Luckily, you looked away quickly as you peaked behind him.
“Will uh, your friends be joining us too?”
James whipped around to see Sirius, Peter, and even Remus sticking their heads out from behind a shelf. The sight was comical, looking straight out of a cartoon; even more so when they realized they’d been caught and jumped out of sight.
You found it amusing to watch how he nearly cringed. “I suppose they will be,” he sighed.
The five of you didn’t spend too much longer there, easily picking up the books you’d need for seventh year. You were pleasantly surprised to chat with Remus about books you had read over the summer, learning that he also enjoyed muggle literature. It made you more aware of how little you actually knew about The Marauders, aside from what was surface level. That was okay but you hadn’t expected to enjoy learning more.
Given that you still had some time before heading to The Leaky Cauldron, you didn’t mind stopping at another store or two to pass the time.
Up until Sirius mentioned stopping at Quality Quidditch Supplies. James was ecstatic at the idea, quickly involving you in the plan given the three of you were the quidditch players of the group. The two boys were too engrossed in their conversation about what broom polish they preferred to notice your sudden discomfort.
Sirius let out a loud exaggerated scoff, rolling his eyes as he turned to face you and James. "I could still outfly the two of you any day," he teased. “Come on, we’ll meet Remus and Peter at The Leaky Cauldron when we’re done.”
You opened your mouth, the words sticking apprehensively to the tip of your tongue. You urged yourself to say something, to even just feign disinterest and opt to head to Rosa Lee Teabag, just lie and say you really loved tea.
Instead, your mouth closed and your shoulders sagged in defeat as you followed behind Sirius and James.
You were quite familiar with Quality Quidditch Supplies, having frequented the store before each return to Hogwarts. The smell of boom polish was overwhelming when you opened the door, feeling like a sense of home. You couldn’t help but inhale deeply as the three of you stepped inside.
You half-listened to James excitedly discuss the new broom he’d gotten over the summer. There was no doubt it was the newest model, his parent’s religiously sending him off to Hogwarts with the best model available given he was a star player.
Normally, you would’ve been rolling your eyes; snorting out a sarcastic comment asking if that broom would be able to lift his massive head off the ground. You were just uncharacteristically quiet on the topic and it didn’t take long for it to be noticed.
James glanced behind him, looking for evidence that something was wrong. Your mouth was twisted into a little frown, teeth worrying at your bottom lip as your fingers trailed along the broom handles in the displays.
He wanted you to say something, anything. He couldn’t understand why you were so uncharacteristically quiet. Wasn't this your favorite subject? Quidditch had always been something you loved.
As Sirius announced that he would be going to look at new goggles, James hung behind when you stopped in front of a shelf. He reached over your head to pluck a jar of broom polish sitting over your head and pretended to be very interested in reading the label.
“You alright then?” James asked, glancing over at you in hopes that he sounded flippant on the topic.
You pretended not to hear him for a moment, humming in confusion so you could assess how closely he was watching you.
“Oh. Yeah.” You shrugged, mirroring his attempt at looking casual by picking up a bottle of broom polish and inspecting it between your fingers. Neither of you were doing a good job considering the air seemed to feel thicker in the face of the awkwardness.
You should just say it.
Afterall, he’d been witness to your tears at the end of last school year following your humiliation at the hands of Elias Kaston.
“I uh… quit… quidditch.”
From how big James’s eyes got and how quickly he whipped to look in your direction, you might’ve been speaking another language. You didn’t look up at him even though you could see how he was staring at you in complete shock.
James couldn’t have heard you correctly, because there was no way that you just said what he thought you did.
"You... you quit?" His voice was obnoxiously loud. “You quit? Why? Why on earth would you quit quidditch?”
A few shoppers nearby turned in your direction, concerned at the sound. You turned to look at him and raised a hand, hoping to placate James and his knack for dramatics. “Okay, okay,” you hissed, “Keep it down, would you? It's not that big of a deal.”
If Sirius would have been in the vicinity, half of Diagon Alley would have known by now.
“Not that big of a deal? Really?”
“Which it’s not.”
“You’ve been playing since second year.”
“Yes, James. I am quite aware of that.”
“You were captain last year- you won the final match last year!”
You shrugged, the action far too tense to be as dismissive as you tried to be. “I just wasn’t feeling it this year, I don’t know.”
No one would believe that excuse, especially when you turned away, picking up a different bottle of broom polish. It gave you an excuse to avoid his scrutinizing eyes that made you practically itch as you tucked a piece of hair behind your ear.
James’s lips pressed into a thin line, inhaling slowly through his nose and saying nothing. You didn’t need to.
He stepped closer, speaking passionately in a much lower volume. “You’re a better player than Kaston.”
“It’s not because of Kaston,” you scoffed. James continued, speaking over your protests and speaking louder as your lies continued.
“You’re a better leader.”
“Doesn’t matter, it has nothing to do with that.”
“You had the potential to lead your team to another cup this year.”
“Well, I already won, wanted to give you a fair chance,” you shot back, feigning disinterest. His hand shot forward to pull your distraction away from you, holding it out of reach when you attempted to snatch it back. You had to look at him then, see the disappointment in his furrowed brows and parted mouth.
“Are you really going to give that all up for an asshole like him?”
“I’m not doing it because of him!” It came out sharper than you had intended and you were immediately embarrassed; less so about the outburst itself and more because you felt stupid even bothering to deny it. James had been the one to see the effect your year as captain had on you last year when he found you in the kitchen, how defeated you were when you should have been celebrating.
Being the captain of the Slytherin team last year had been a disaster and you couldn’t imagine doing it again. But the thought of remaining on the team while Kaston took your spot of power-
Who were you kidding? You wouldn’t have made it through the first round of tryouts.
You bit back something sharp that wanted to fall from your lips and impale him, just so you would maybe feel better. That would’ve been wrong; James was clearly still trying to help. So you forced yourself to look away and chewed on your bottom lip to give yourself a moment to take a breath.
“I already told you last year,” you sighed, leaning back against the shelf and staring at your feet. “No one listened to me. There were times no one besides Keith showed up at practice. Do you know how many bludgers to the head I got last year? I stopped counting at 12.”
You opened your mouth before scrunching up your nose in the prospect of silence.
There was the other, bigger, issue.
You were going to spend the rest of seventh year keeping your head down. If it kept your family safe, then you would happily give up quidditch for your last year at school. Quitting hurt, you wouldn’t lie to yourself that you hadn’t shed many tears over the summer as your broom sat collecting dust in the corner of your bedroom.
Getting over the loss of your beloved sport? You would get over it eventually.
Getting over the loss of your family?
You would learn to be a spectator in the fan section.
James’s frown only deepened when he seemed to understand the copious amount of reasons behind your decisions behind it. He knew from first hand experience you were a phenomenal player- you had beaten him several times last year. You were clever, quick witted, and had a sharp eye for spotting opportunities to go for goal; it wasn’t fair.
Both of you stayed quiet for a moment, the sound of a bell chiming cutting through the weight of the situation.
He expelled all of the air from his cheeks, nodding slowly like he was coming to understand everything- at least to understand the best he could.
“Alright,” James finally said, his voice soft but determined. "How can I help?”
Out of everything you’d expected him to say, that wasn’t it.
“What?” you blurted out. Your confused scowl didn’t deter the intent look he wore. With a sigh, you ran a hand down your face. “James, you can’t do anything. It’s done. I turned it down. The only thing you can do is beat him this season.”
“No, I can do more than beat him on the field.” He stepped closer, ducking his head so he could keep your eye.
James didn’t want to just beat Kaston this season. He was going to obliterate him.
“Help me coach Gryffindor.”
You almost thought you’d misheard him. “I’m sorry, what now?”
“Help me this year with coaching the Gryffindor team,” he reiterated without missing a beat.
Oh, so you had heard him right.
“What? No,” you hissed back in an attempt to keep your surprise from projecting itself, “I can’t just… help you coach…” It came out less like a statement and more like a question.
“Why not?” James didn’t miss a beat. When you tried to turn away, his body moved to cut you off. “You know the Slytherin team better than anyone, and you're a damn good player. That's why you were captain in the first place, right?”
You pointed a finger at his chest and he wrapped his hand around your wrist. There was nothing you could do to escape the urgency in his eyes, like he was pleading for you to consider what he was offering.
“You want me to… what,” you asked tentatively, “Help you coach your team on everything I know about the Slytherins plays in hopes to beat them?”
To spill all of the secrets you’d learned the past six years? To work on plays with James, the captain of the Gryffindor team so that they would win?
Once you said exactly what he meant, he nearly beamed with excitement.
“Yes! You can help me figure out the best drills for the team, give me tips and advice, make sure the people I choose for the team are well suited for the positions I put them in. You can directly help take down Kaston on the field.”
You shook your head but he didn’t even falter. Not even the way you looked like him like he’d grown a third head made a dent in his glow. Burning, burning burning; he was glowing white hot like the sun and you were going to get burned.
"What do you think? I think it's a positively brilliant idea- one of my best yet," he grinned.
"I think that James Potter has officially lost his mind."
He just laughed, eyes never leaving your face as they scanned your expression. It was like when you watched him fall down the stairs, how he’d laughed and you’d wondered why you didn’t just throw yourself down them to see what was so funny.
“It's not just about beating them. It's about humiliating them.” As he spoke, James' tone grew firmer, his eyes gleaming with determination as his hands moved to shake your shoulders. "Imagine it, we’ll wipe that smirk right off Kaston's face."
Your doubt was clear but there was a flicker of something else- a spark of temptation.
“James, no,” you said sternly.
“Think about it.” “No, I will not-”
“Come on, just for a second; really think about it.”
“I am not entertaining this-” “No one even has to know you were involved! Think about how he would feel not being able to carry his team to victory after a muggleborn did it the year before.”
That made the rest of your protests die on your lips. James nearly grimaced, attempting to reel himself back in and not scare you off because you were considering it. Albeit reluctantly, you were at least thinking about the possibility.
“Think about it…” His eyebrow raised cautiously. “Think about how he’s going to feel when he realizes he can’t do something you did.”
How pureblooded Kaston would feel when he couldn’t do something a mudblood did.
Fuck.
“Fine. I’ll think about it,” you conceded. James somehow beamed even brighter, the feeling contagious as you laughed and he shook you enthusiastically again.
You tried to make your face more serious. “I’m saying I’ll consider it. I’m not saying yes but… I’m not saying no.”
“Brilliant!” His grip on your shoulders loosened, letting his arms fall to his sides. "Yes! You won't regret this, I promise. We're gonna destroy them this year, I swear it."
“I said *maybe*. I need to think about it. So it’s just… it’s a maybe.”
Both of you stayed like that, biting down on smiles and standing closer than you realized. This close, you could make out the knick of a scar on his cheekbone, so faded that it had to be from his childhood. Words to describe his beauty easily escaped you. Those words were harder to retrieve with the way he was watching you.
“I miss something,” Sirius said out of nowhere, appearing from behind a shelf with his bag of purchases and looking between you. Your trance was broken, both of you stepping apart.
James recovered immediately with a crooked smile.
"Yeah, mate, there's something going on," James responded, slinging an arm over your shoulders and guiding you towards the door. "Guess who just agreed to help... coach Gryffindor?"
“I did not agree.”
After only a few steps out into the street, busy with witches and wizards as they shopped, you gave up on trying to dislodge yourself from under his arm. You chuckled to yourself, James doing the same when you nudged his ribs with your elbow.
Sirius turned with a smirk as he led the group towards The Leaky Cauldron. "Just how friendly have the two of you been?” He asked, his tone mischievous.
“Shut it, Pads,” James replied. He got back at him by throwing his other arm over his friend's shoulder.
Sirius let out a yelp when he nearly spilled the quidditch supplies he carried.
“I’ve just convinced our dear friend here to help us obliterate the snake house. Imagine, all three of us working together. We'll crush them so hard they won’t know what hit them."
You rolled your eyes, “Can I just remind everyone that I am still a part of said snake house.
"Details, details," James grinned, dismissing that fact with a waive of his hand.

Ikeprinces As Ranked By Gilbert
**Best enjoyed after reading Gil’s route. There are also spoilers of varying degrees from some sequel routes (Chev, Licht).
1. LUKE
Luke: I’m surprised I got the top spot. Don’t you and Chevvie go way back? Gilbert: That’s true, but you’re my adorable little kid brother. I’ve carried you on my back. You’ve carried me on your back. Good times. Luke: Aw, Dad… (bear-hugs Gil) Gilbert: (pouts as he struggles to breathe) Did you even… hear a word of what I said… Luke: I heard ‘kid’. That makes ya my dad, right?
2. CHEVALIER
Gilbert: So? What do you think? Chevalier: (ignores him and continues doing paperwork) Gilbert: (high-pitched voice) “Please, oh please, Gil! Please trample my country to the ground, rebuild it in your image and then run it for me!” Something like that, right? Gilbert: (dodges pebble) Ahh, sorry, sorry. It would probably be more like “Please, oh please, Eyepatch!" Gilbert: (dodges another pebble) What is going on here? Do you roll around in the garden before coming to work every day?
3. CLAVIS
Clavis: (stiff smile) I baked you one of my most sought-after creations as thanks. I’d be honored if you’d try it, Lord Gilbert. Gilbert: Hmm, it looks as unappetizing as I expected but smells delicious. Oh, and... (sniffs) ...you even infused it with my favorite poison! Clavis: Hahaha! Well, I didn’t want you to get the idea that I’d learned nothing about you during all our years working together. Gilbert: Of course, of course. Would you like to share this with me Clavis: (stiff smile) No, no, no. It’s best enjoyed alone. Please, I insist.
4. RIO
Rio: If you’re trying to use me to get to my mistress, then I’ll— Gilbert: You misunderstand me. (Sets down two plates of pain perdu and places his hand on Rio’s) I really do commiserate with you, you know. It’s not easy seeing the one you love go off to be with another man. And yet you gladly sacrifice your own happiness. As though it were someone else's joy to give away. Rio: It is. My joy belongs to my mistress. Gilbert: Hmph? Let's see. Pain perdu means ‘lost bread’, right? Poor, poor abandoned little toast, molding under the table. Gilbert: Oh, by the way. I asked the little rabbit if I could bring these to you on her behalf. (Proceeds to eat all the pain perdu himself) Rio: (smiles brightly) So I’ve heard you love exercising!
5. SILVIO
Silvio: (kicks down the door) Where's the list? Gilbert: (innocently sips tea) So you can tear it up? Did you think I didn't make copies to send to every one of your little merchant friends? Silvio: My real friends know what's up. Gilbert: What a hurtful thing to say. I’m just honoring our friendship. And buttering you up for future manipulation. Silvio: Tch. I don’t know what game you’re playing— Gilbert: Human chess. Silvio: —but I’ll buy up every damn piece before you can get your filthy little mitts on 'em. Gilbert: Hehe, splendid. (Sits back with a smile) What’s more fun than controlling someone who controls everything else?
6. KEITH
Keith: Picked me over the other guy, did ya? Gilbert: Oh, he’s on the list too, of course. But I can’t stand how much of a do-gooder he is. And besides, you’re much more fun to play with. Keith: That right? I’m usually the one doing the teasing around here, though. Gilbert: (looks around dramatically) Around here? Where only a handful of people even know you exist? Tell me, if a tree falls and no one’s there to hear it, does it make a sound? Keith: >:0
7. KEITH
Keith: (hangs head) So you know… about him… Gilbert: Ahaha, there's no need to look so down! You haven’t done anything wrong, have you? It’s all him, right? If only he’d just disappear and stop taunting you from Spot #6. Keith: N-No! I don’t want that! I don’t… think I want that… Keith: Yes, I’m sure of it. He and I can share our friends. Gilbert: (stops smiling) Sharing only works if you can fully trust the other person to not take advantage of your kindness. You may think you can do that now, but people change. Circumstances change. The galette must one day burn. Keith: :’(
8. JIN
Jin: (thoroughly unamused) How kind of you. Gilbert: Isn’t it? But you should know that I’ve got nothing against you personally. Whatever enmity there is between us stems primarily from you. If you weren’t royalty, we might have even co-brothered Luke together. Jin: (throws up in his mouth) I don’t see how that has anything to do with this. And you’re the most detested royal figurehead on the continent. Gilbert: (shrugs) I’d say I’m sorry you can’t see past that, but I’d be lying if I claimed there was anything there to be seen in the first place. Thanks for the lollypop. Jin: What? HEY—
9. SARIEL
Sariel: (stops as soon as he enters his office) What are these vermin doing here? Gilbert: (sitting in Sariel’s chair) Just a little gift I brought so I could congratulate you for making it onto my list. Would you like to do the honors? Sariel: (plucks him up by the fur) Am I to understand you’re giving me a chance to correct my oversight before you take things into your own hands? Gilbert: (brushes himself off) I expect you to do most if not all of the work since my hands are tied while I’m a visiting guest here. But I’m happy to take them under my wing if you can’t even do that much. Sariel: “Kill them, or be forced to kill them,’ is it? (glances at the tied-up assassins) I wonder which one of us they would consider a fate worse than death.
10. LEON
Leon: (glares) I take it you only stuck me on here out of diplomatic courtesy. Gilbert: Haha, maybe. But there’s something about you that’s always reminded me of someone I know. Leon: Whoever it is, I feel bad for the guy. Gilbert: (bittersweet smile) You might be right. Maybe I need to do better by him…
11. LICHT
Licht: Do I know you? Gilbert: I was wondering the same thing, to be honest. But I’ve seen you around the palace enough times that I figured I might as well throw you on here. Gilbert: Nice eyes by the way, hehe. Licht: Oh no you don’t. My only family is Nokto.
12. NOKTO
Gilbert: Oh. There are two of you. Must be nice having an identical twin. (Resting his chin in his hand) Do you two switch places a lot? Nokto: You never noticed before today? Never received a report from one of your spies about it? Gilbert: Oh no, what sort of boring activities do you think I have my spies do all day? Nokto: Well, for starters, you sure seem to have paranormal insight into the contents of our kitchen at any given moment. Gilbert: So you'd rather I left all the carrots where they are? Nokto: ...
...
.......
................
Yves: Prince Gilbert!
Gilbert: (stops but doesn’t turn around)
Yves: I saw your list, and I couldn’t help but notice—
Gilbert: No, I believe you noticed everything you were meant to.
Gilbert: (leaves to go find the little rabbit to fix his bad mood)

Title: Mentor Tim
So we all know how similar Tim is to Bruce, I feel like as Tim gets older he promises himself not to become like him, in regards to his closed off-ness and anti-social behavior, gets therapy (boy was that something else), matures as a person and learns to take care of himself properly (not everyone has an Alfred lying around y’know).
So older Tim, who does not want to be Batman (who does at this point?), and considers Red Tornado (Aka; the only adult who really cared) his idol, makes an intellectual decision.
To mentor 10+ young vigilantes, that are basically neglected or ignored by their mentors, that he met once on a mission, apparently they’re the new Young Justice members (why do all the unwanted ones end up there, seriously, has everyone learned nothing??).
It’s not that he planned to mentor the young superheroes, but he couldn’t really ignore them when they took to him like little ducklings to water all because he was nice to them.
The were very undertrained and uncoordinated, and in desperate need of guidance, and Tim who has caused or been apart of some of the craziest shit known to man has a lot of knowledge to spare:
Tim: Leo, for the love of god. Put. That. Down. Number one rule of dealing with magical artifacts or magic in general is don’t touch it and run, don’t walk away if it starts to glow.
—————————
Tim: Keith, seriously dude, if you need any new equipment, swords, knives, anything at all, just tell me. Y’know what I can set it up with one phone call, hold on.
—————————
Tim: Peter, if that jerk at school talks to you like that again I give you my permission to beat his ass, I don’t care what your school or “mentor” have to say, they clearly know nothing about teenagers.
—————————
Tim: Of course you can skip training next week for your recital Sofia, and actually, I cancelled training for everyone when they told me they all wanted to go to support you, thanks for inviting me by the way, I can’t wait.
—————————
Tim: Oh, you’ve had an argument with your parent, Nick? Hold on just a sec.
Tim: Yeah, I just freed my schedule so we could have the whole day to ourselves, I remember those movies you told me you wanted to marathon, let’s go watch them in the big screen room, bundle ourselves in the softest blankets and eat a sh- heck ton of ice cream, while we talk about it, if you feel like it, of course.
—————————
Tim: I noticed how much extensive energy you have even after a full training session, Mateo, so I thought you and I could stay and spar, even after everyone’s done. I’ve brought new training equipment for you to try and researched a few new techniques that correlate with your abilities.
—————————
Tim: Don’t worry about not being able to speak, Amara, I know plenty of sign, in many languages, in fact.
—————————
Tim: *on a phone call*
Tim: What do you mean you’re in a burning building?
Tim: What do you mean you set it on fire?!
Tim: Send me your location, Amber, I’ll be there in ten, no- five.
—————————
And that’s how the hero community noticed how the newly proclaimed Young Justice mentor Red Robin nowadays often had one, if not all, of his ducklings kids students standing proudly next to him.
Bonus:
Tim: Red, I am so sorry for all the years you had to put up with my bullshit.
Tim: I’m basically the only adult- no, person, who cares about them!
Tim: I don’t know how they’ve been alive for so long!
Red Tornado: You are forgiven, Tim, although I must admit, it is quite satisfying that you know of my pain.
Tim, with haunted eyes: You have no idea.
Part 2??

🔞 Wicked!Keith tempting you in, making you believe he'll let you be in charge this time as he has you straddle his lap at your own pace. And it's not like he hasn't done this before; he's helped you gain confidence, learn how to ride him, how to leash him and make him yours. Sometimes it's comforting for him, knowing you want him so badly, and he encourages you to explore whatever it is you desire.
But not today. And perhaps he did originally intend to hand you the reins, give himself over to you so he can let himself go. But somewhere, somehow, a switch flipped. And now it was hard to remember up from down, left from right, as your lover's hard-crafted arms kept you pressed close to him while his hips were pistoning against you, rock hard member reaching all the most spine-tingling spots inside you.
You may have been on top, but there was no mistaking who was in charge, his fingers pressed into the fat of your thighs to keep you close, no possibility of space between your bodies. His kisses consumed you, that golden gaze kept you entranced, and the heat of his body threatened to burn you up completely. And although you couldn't see it, the feel and sound of where you were connected resonated in the room, the most indecent sounds of wet flesh meeting and breathy moans filling the room.
You couldn't be sure where this want of possession came from, why he sought you so strongly. Maybe he simply needed the reassurance, a bad memory or dream reminding him of the past, of what he's had to endure. Or perhaps he saw someone getting a little too close to the one he loves. Fleeting thoughts of recent interactions with Liam came to mind, shining a bright smile at him when he'd gotten you your favorite baked good, or made you laugh a little too hard at a silly anecdote. Keith saw, and you could only guess it had left a tad sour taste in his mouth, even though he knew better. But those thoughts couldn't stay in your mind for long, a sudden, forceful orgasm removing all thoughts except for ones of your lover.
He took every last orgasm from you and then some, until you were simply a bundle of nerves in his arms. He made sure to whisper sweet whispers of apologies and "next time"s into your ear, but the look on his face spoke volumes of his satisfaction with what happened. But he was cute when he was possessive, so fiercely needy of you, that it was hard not to forgive him. And if the ache between your legs said anything, it was that you couldn't be too terribly upset with the outcome either.

Some of Sariel Noir's best quotes

"Know that this devil will stake his life on your pure heart, your wise gaze, and your fierce resolve."
"There is something I wish to protect, even if it means selling my soul to the true devil himself, and burning for all eternity in the fires of hell."
"Do you realize who you resemble, when you act in that manner?" (—Sariel to Emma acting like him)
"Rio, what in the world makes you think she could be in a flower vase? Calm yourself." (—Sariel talking about Emma to Rio while they're looking for her)
"There is no harm in sucking up to me."
"You have always been courageous, determined to put your emotions aside and process things logically whenever possible. And I certainly consider it a desirable trait to possess. But too much has happened this evening, and I imagine you're well past the limit of what you can tolerate. I do not mind if you need to prioritize how you are feeling right now."
"If you ever refer to me like that again, I must warn you that you may not see the next sunrise." (—Sariel to Gilbert calling him 'Daddy')
"At last I've found you. (...) I imagine a little discipline will go a long way with you... hehe..."
"It would seem you have a lot of confidence in your ability to remember things. (...) ...I am simply wondering whether you ought not be taking notes. While it's true books can be reread, much of the information I am sharing with you is not written down anywhere. As such, you may find it useful to write things down so that you may review them later."
"So long as the kingdom and its people exist, our noble beasts will give everything they have to protect it. As you know, they have very different ideologies, and they are a problematic lot, but... on this one matter alone, almost all of them can be trusted." (—Sariel talking about the Rhodolitian princes to Emma)
"It's a basic right. Everyone needs time to rest and relax, no matter who they are."
"I'm fond of those who are wise—regardless of gender."
"I'm talking about the creature that says 'squeak squeak' and begins with the letter R. I cannot even put that filthy word in my mouth." (—Sariel talking about rats)
"(...) Prince Gilbert, rude though it may be of me to ask, perhaps you would be kind enough to vanish for the time being?"
"There probably aren't many ladies that would be able to approach Prince Gilbert." (—Sariel talking in front of Emma, Keith, Silvio, Rio and Gilbert)
"...Now, now. I am a man, you are a woman, and we're all alone in your bedroom at night. How might you want this scenario to end?"
"To say that I'm relieved to have you beside me is an understatement." (—Sariel's lobby dialogue)
"(...) I did feel some murderous intent in the cane, however." (—Sariel to Gilbert pointing his cane at him)
"Dear Prince Clavis, (...) Apparently you made a child bawl in the middle of town? Please act your age. (...) There have been complaints that people who got wet because of you were close to catching colds because of it. It's winter. Please do not be using water or ice. This is not an invitation to make traps using fire. *NO MICE. The next time I see any, I will put them in a bag along with you and send it down the river. I have warned you." (—Sariel's letter to Clavis)
"...Prostate himself? (...) ...Ahh, I see. Wonderful, I shall have to make the hellcat do it the next time I get the chance." (—Sariel talking about Clavis to Rio)
"You damned hellcat—" (—Sariel to Clavis)
"I do not know what choice you will make going forward, but... For as long as you are able, do not let each other go. Especially because you love each other. It makes no difference whether you are a prince or a commoner. A person needs someone to love in order to remain human. I learned this after witnessing what happened to His Majesty." (—Sariel to Rio)
"What on earth are you doing curled up so disgracefully on the floor like that, Dog?" (—Sariel to Rio)
"(...) At that time, Clavis was the most innocent and childlike of the princes. I had to admit that I was easily swayed by his sweet grin. He took a keen interest in anything and everything, and he had a strong drive. Clavis was the student—well, disciple—I shared most of my knowledge with." (—Sariel's thoughts about young Clavis)
"Which do you like better, spending time with me like this, or spending time reading a book?"
"You are right, it would be tactless of me to speak ill of you when you are present. I shall wait until you are absent, and then I will be free to speak as much ill of you as I wish." (—Sariel to Clavis)
"(...) I'm the one who taught Prince Nokto and Prince Licht how to use their swords."
"I wonder how many times he and I have shared a drink now. I remembered the times where instead of amber-colored wine, there was water or milk in the cups in front of us. We had been partaking in these laidback meetings ever since we were both young. They were an absolute necessity for us." (—Sariel's thoughts about Jin)
"(...) You misunderstand me. I don't hate the man, I despise him." (—Sariel talking about Clavis to Emma)
"Now, now. Don't be so sullen. Another fundamental aspect of training someone is to make them want something but never completely satisfy them."
"I also despise hellcats, miscreants, oh, and the Third Prince." (—Sariel talking about Clavis)
"If you do, I'm not nursing you back to health." (—Sariel to Rio telling him he might faint because of how beautiful Emma is)
"(...) Since Emma isn't available to praise you, shall I do the honors instead?" (—Sariel to Rio)
"Hehe, I'm never going to let you run away from this palace of beasts. Will you continue to allow them, and myself, to enjoy your company to the fullest?"
"My hobby is teasing those who are worth teasing, such as yourself. Think of it as an honor that you met my expectations." (—Sariel's lobby dialogue)
"In that instance, I was considering binding Emma's arms behind her back and dumping her in the river. Hehe, naturally, I am joking. I have absolute confidence in my judge of character." (—Sariel talking about Emma potentially failing his test to Rio and Emma)
"I have one more order for you, if that's all right. (...) I'd like you to have a drink with me like this every now and then."
"(...) if it is to be a competition, perhaps I shall take part as well." (—Sariel reacting to Luke saying he would steal Emma away)
"The princes were all very excited when they discovered that today is your birthday. Happy birthday." (—Sariel's lobby dialogue)
"You allowed yourself to get so close to her that rumors began circulating that she was your mistress. Did you keep Belle at your side even knowing it would have no benefit for you?" (—Sariel to Chevalier)
"Prince Chevalier's faction are perhaps a little too free-willed, and at times the ache in my—"
"Consider it one of the perks of being Belle. You are permitted to keep a pet at the palace. (...) This is your pet, is it not? When I entered the bookstore, it started barking non-stop, so I had no choice but to bring it with me." (—Sariel talking about Rio to Emma)
"Hmm? Is something the matter? I can't imagine why you're blushing. Careful now, or you really will get eaten."
"Don't worry. It doesn't matter what kind of noise you make. If anyone overhears and finds fault with you, this devil of a man will take care of it. So please, won't you allow me to hear every last sweet sound?"

His Touch
How the IkePri guys show affection through touches . . . headcanon ofc.
Chevalier
His touch is sure and possessive. There is a false confidence in his rough handling. He knows he lacks practice and a gentle hand, but this does not deter him. He will learn you until his touch is the only thing you crave. Until his hands memorize the map of your body, and his lips have claimed every peak and valley.
Clavis
Playful, progressive, experimental . . . Clavis' touch is all that and more. You are the material and the result, a means and an end. He loves to toy with you, his touches carnal and teasing. Adventurous. There is never a dull moment. And the more he tries, the more he wants to try. He will push the boundaries of pleasure and find new ways to make you sigh or scream.
Nokto
He touches you with practised hands. A man that calculates the value and impact of every touch. Nokto knows you in ways you do not know yourself. Despite the depth and breadth of his knowledge, love is new to him. And so, even with all his experience, he is often surprised. Not by your reaction, but his own.
Luke
His touch is unpracticed but confident. A simple certainty, both gentle and protective. Though his size makes him sometimes cautious, he trusts himself with you. He is encompassing in his affection, and even the lightest caress will often lead to being hugged, lifted, held. He wants to hold you close, all of you to all of him.
Leon
His touch is passionate and sweet. A burst of fire that warms without burning. He values every brush of his skin against yours. Holding hands under the table, letting his knee rest against your leg, a kiss on the cheek in passing. Leon is unreserved in his affection and it shows in the way he reaches for you.
Jin
Jin's touch is the essence of adoration and desire. Though he is an experienced lover, his previous encounters were practical, a pleasurable transaction. In short, nothing like the love he shares with you. This shows in the intimacy he shares. From his possessive arm around your waist to the less-than-chaste kiss goodbye before he goes about his business. If he could, he would never let go.
Yves
His touch is that of an artist with his most valued treasure. Gentle yet desperate, eager to hold and love. You are his favorite thing. He wants to show you off, his arm linked in yours, a partner. He wants to treat you with gifts and treats, his touch joyful and creative. He wants to be the only one you see, greedy and wracked with desire.
Licht
He touches you with a sense of awe. You are the unexpected future. A world he did not believe existed for him. He lives in you, through you, beside you. His touch is almost worshipful. When you are with him, anything is possible. His touch is a fevered need to know you are there. That you will always be there. And to remind you that he is still here, because of you.
Sariel
His touch is the devil's. Wicked and wonderful, a lover with experience. Disciplined and cool, he keeps his passionate side well hidden in public view. From the outside, it would be easy to dismiss the brush of a kiss to your cheek, the hand on your back, the momentary press of his side to yours. But these are all promises of more, when the moment is right. In private, he is still disciplined but far from cool. His love is a flame that burns and warms.
Rio
There is only one word for his touch. Devotion. All of him is yours. Every touch is a surrender to you, and a claim. What you take, you give. He wants to be everything for you. A caretaker. Protector. Friend. Lover. Confidant. His hand on your shoulder, his lips to your ear, his eyes always on you.
Keith
Keith's touch is cautious, at times reserved. You are a precious creature, a wonder that he is only beginning to explore. Even after years together, there is a sense of wonder in him at every kiss and embrace. He is exultant and protective, his fingers twined with yours. His kisses always begin gently, but may not end that way. His touch is kind, unpracticed, authentic and genuine and overflowing with love.
Wicked Keith
His touch is playful, taunting you with unexpected sensations. The sharp nip of his teeth, the caress of his tongue instead of a chaste kiss. He thrills with your reactions, and always seeks some new way to excite you. His hands are possessive, and whenever possible, he will hold onto you. He is fierce and wild, a proud creature that has claimed you for his own, and this shows in everything he does - from the way his hand settles around your shoulders to the press of his lips to yours.
Silvio
Silvio is a practiced lover, a man of wealth and experience. His touch is an adventure, an exploration of you. You are his discovery, a strange and lovely creature that passed his careful defenses and now that you are within the walls of his heart, he will never let you go. While his words are sometimes brash, his touch never is. He is a thoughtful lover, an affectionate friend. His hand rests on the small of your back, or holds your hand as if you were a delicate flower he is afraid he might crush. His kiss is like the ocean, calm upon the surface and churning with deep currents beneath.
Gilbert
His touch is that of the conqueror, one that revels in the delight of what he unexpectedly won. Possessive, an arrogance that belies the desperation and uncertainty beneath. A lonely creature that has found you, and will never let you go. You are both the entertainment and the entertained. In possessing you, he is possessed. His touch is needy, hungry, and eager, though he would never admit it. His kisses are fevered passion hidden behind a calculating veneer.

Still thinking of Silvio, just buried under a pile of children. Very likely all boys. Each time, Emma is hoping it'll be a girl. Just one girl. Maybe she gets one with her very last child, who is absolutely spoiled to high heaven (truthfully, they all are, the palace is constantly filled with the noise of rowdy children having fun who are just as loud as their father 💀).
The first kid isn't planned and he has a bit of a breakdown about it. He hovers so much during the first pregnancy, barely letting you leave the palace and worrying so much about when you try to lift things. He's leaving meetings to check on you and (begrudgingly) getting Rio to check on you when he can't. He worries about your food and drinks and wanting to make sure you're getting all the nutrients you need. He's thankful for being by the sea to get plenty of fresh fish, and pesters Prince Keith for trades in herbs and remedies to help your morning sickness and such.
Silvio learns how to braid hair just for his daughter. He loves bringing back all sorts of items from his trips overseas, different books and toys and artifacts. Carlo is accidentally like a second uncle (Emidio is completely blocked from meeting the kids). It takes a lot of convincing to allow Silvio's father to see the grandkids, and is only allowed with strict supervision for a short amount of time.
Silvio play fights with his kids all the time, often pretending to be a pirate. Or they'll act as the pirates while he's the dashing prince coming to save the kidnapped princess, Emma. He teaches them how to swordfight (including fighting dirty....) and takes it upon himself to show them how to work and command a boat.
Silvio, who's struggled with being honest with his feelings for so long and couldnt really be honest because that'd make him vulnerable, working so hard to overcome that for you and his kids. He tries his best to tell you and his kids how much he loves you guys. He really struggles with it, muttering it for a while, face red, blurting it out in a shout sometimes. But he improves with it. He wants to make sure his kids always feel wanted, in a way he never got to.
The first time he holds his first baby, his jewelry gets in the way, between baby trying to put a pendant in their mouth and Silvio almost accidentally hitting his kid with his heavy chain. He spends a long time after the birth of his first kid dressed down without his usual bling, and it's the most casual and least flashy the palace staff have ever seen him. Sometimes he has spit-up stains but of course they're scared to mention it to him unless he's going to an important meeting or something.
He puts his kids to bed with stories about his trips on the seas, the kinds of people he's met, countries he's visited, rare treasures and new creatures he's found. Usually they're enraptured by his stories. But once in a while, they surprise him by preferring your storybooks to his experiences, getting him upset that some fictional story is more captivating than his real life experience, making him pout for the next week.

Do you ship it?
reason under the cut!
Listen Italian about the fact that they both lived. Shiro was alone as the human adult in space so long and he lost so much even in the intro he automatically protects Matt and then we find out how much he would protect him later. This man is so alone and has no peers only those he is looking after and one man who is years and years older than him. Then they manage to find him they find a person he wasn't even sure was alive who is around his age.a peer somone who has experienced some of what he has, who has an idea of what he's been going through and grew up on the same planet as him and clearly shares his love of space.
Then on Matt's side he was protected this man made it clear he would protect him with his life how wonderful and terrible it would be to love someone who you think didn't love you in the same way and watch them destroy themselves to try to protect you and your family. Then you get back and not only did he protect you and your father from fighting battles you were never prepared to but he protected your little sister who was crazy enough to follow you up and the man is still as kind but he's in pain and he's alone and so you let him rely on you because of course you cared before but now how could you not be fully in love with the man you were falling for who was fighting to be himself and protect these kids because they are young adults but they are learning who is so alone and traumatized but still holding on to his kindness.
As well as that I like to think about how much it would annoy pidge as well as how funny it would be for pidge and keith not to be able to escape their siblings being gross and in love in space. Or on the flip side how funny them trying to be subtle and sneak around with it would be.

Do you also just think about klance and how domestic they could've been if DreamWorks weren't cowards?
Like, it's canon that Keith is an early riser and Lance likes to sleep in late. So, I'm imagining Keith trying to get up for training and stuff, but he finds himself pinned down by his boyfriend, leg over his hips and arm resting on top of his torso (I like to think that Lance has a habit of keeping his palm on Keith's chest, where he can feel his heartbeat). So, Keith finds himself in a heated argument between wanting to get out of bed and not wanting to wake Lance up.
He sighs heavily, having been over this more than once, and tries to slid out of his boyfriend's embrace carefully. But, of course, he fails (because Lance is a clingy bastard) and the half-embrace only grows tighter, a sleepy 'don't' leaving Lance's lips.
Keith's gives up for now, sparing some time for his dear lover, scattering messy kisses all over his face and playing with his soft bed hair with one hand, while the other one rubs mindless circles on Lance's tanned skin. It's lazy and cozy but then Lance finally rolls to his other side because Keith runs hot, which gives the latter the perfect possibility to start his day (of course, only after giving Lance one last kiss on the temple).
*
Since Lance has lots of siblings and stuff, he had to learn how to cook from an early age, tho with all that world saving and now forming a steady ground for peace he doesn't have much time left for that. So, whenever he has time (and energy) he cooks some delicious meal, taking the kitchen all to himself (music blowing and his singing+dancing combo in its full glory). Keith does offer his help, but the most he's trusted with are vegetables cutting and mixing the ingredients.
But most of the time he just likes to hug Lance from behind during those rare moments as he stands relatively still or annoying him, teasing and messing around at 'his' kitchen. Keith also knows how to cook but it's something easy and quick.
*
Imagine Lance catching a flu and Keith is freaking out, because he has no idea what to do. He never takes care of himself nor did any of his foster families offered him enough love and care. So, he remembers all what Shiro and Adam did when he was sick as a teenager and does the same for Lance. He cooks a chicken soup (bland and the chicken is a little rubbery, but, hey, it's the thought that counts after all), brings him warm tea with lemon and honey, never leaves his side and makes sure he has every needed medicine or whatever his poor boyfriend wants.
At first, Lance is perplexed by this side of Keith, the one he rarely lets slip out to the surface. But he soon finds himself completely pampered in love and care, trying to cover his flustration by teasing Keith for being a mother hen. But deep down he's endlessly grateful.
*
Both of them suffer from nightmares, so they learned all the best ways of how to calm each other down, how to show support and what lines aren't supposed to be crossed.
They both require physical contact, for Lance it's a tight hug, whilst for Keith it's hand holding or a gentle hand in his hair because he hates feeling trapped in his panicked state the most. For the most part of the night afterwards, none of them gets to sleep, so sometimes they watch a show or just hold each other close as if giving silent promise to protect one another no matter what.

me when Lance and Keith’s connections with the blue and red lions gives them a BOND *wink* *wink* that connects to their growth as characters. me when Lance and Keith’s discovery of the blue lion mirror Keith’s parents. me when Keith’s initial closed off persona opened up after meeting Lance and lances initial need to be a great pilot like Keith grew into a talent of supporting his crew (including Keith) and developing a role in which he can support the team without trying to one up someone else’s talent (sharpshooter instead of pilot), which set both of them up for their roles as the leader and his right hand man.
SO. Let’s start at the beginning. Lance, in attempting to find the glory he’s been failing to achieve, directly piggybacks on Keith’s plan in order to save Shiro because he could not come up with a plan of his own. These characterizations allude to the fact that…
1. Lance is incompetent in everything he’s tried up to this point. His dreams of being a legendary fighter pilot are crumbling around him because he simply is not naturally talented in flying planes. Of course, he could practice and work hard to improve, which he does later in the series (which we’ll talk about later), but after he became a cargo pilot, he decided he had nothing to offer. Consequently, he began to put up an overconfident front, really the only thing he excelled in. Confidence. Even though he had achieved fighter class, his overcompensating confidence prevented him from making sound decisions and overall improving as a pilot. Lance doesn’t trust himself to make decisions in a situation as important as saving his hero, so he used Keith’s already established plan to involve himself as a savior of his hero.
2. According to Iverson, the only major authoritative figure in lances life at this point, Lance is only a fighter pilot because Keith, the best pilot, had a discipline issue. Lance knows Keith as an amazing pilot that got him where he wanted to be. While Lance would rather do anything but have to work with Keith to achieve the glory he so desperately desires, he knows that since Keith is not loved by the garrison, so Lance can take more credit for the rescue. In lances mind, he got him where he wanted once, he can do it again.
Later, we learn about Keith’s investigation of the blue lion. He’s been trying to find this thing for ages and you know who magically reveals clues Keith has never been able to access before? LANCE. He enters Keith’s life and changes EVERYTHING. Keith’s search for the blue lion gave him a sense of purpose after losing Shiro and the garrison. Just before Shiro returned he sort of hit rock bottom in terms of that investigation. When lances connection to the blue lion guided the paladins to the blue lion, Lance helped Keith discover something new, something he had never seen before. Keith had been living the past few months or even years without doing anything meaningful or developing any meaningful relationships with people his age or discovering anything new. Lance brought a spark into his life, allowing him to use his talents to explore the stretches of space and help others. Yes, the other paladins were there when they found the blue lion, but no one was as connected as Lance and Keith to each other and the blue lion. Pidge and Shiro were more involved with investigating/informing others about the galra, not the lions. Hunk did absolutely nothing (ironic considering his character was never developed in the show to the extent of the others and was fairly useless to the team, unfortunately - he deserved better). If I remember correctly, it was Allura who said that the connection Keith felt to the blue lion was present in order to bring the paladins together, or rather Lance to his lion. Quite literally, the magical connection from keith and Lance to the blue lion (an exact match to lances personality at the time) helped both of them to discover themselves and live happier lives that ultimately brought the team and sort of the universe together???
When Lance became the paladin of the red lion and keith became the paladin of the black lion, their official roles within the team accurately matched the personalities and unofficial roles that they had finally gained through their character development. Lances early journey centered around learning he didn’t have to be the best pilot in the galaxy, but instead could be a pretty good gunman and a major support pillar for the team emotionally and tactically. The journey mirrored his transition from the “confident and friendly” blue lion to the “instinctual and fiery” red lion. The blue lion, said by the dreamworks team to be the lion most accepting of its pilots, typically paladins who it/she see potential in and intend to nurture towards growth. While the red lions descriptions don’t necessarily match lances personality because the descriptions were written to match Keith, its paladin must earn the respect of the red lion in order to pilot it/her. Once he becomes the paladin of the blue lion, the confidence Lance had been parading about became more rooted in his actual skills as he finds himself useful to the team with his sharpshooting abilities. By the time he takes up the mantle of the red paladin, Lance has matured in personality and skill, allowing him to act on instinct and match the role of Keith’s right hand man (HIS INVISIBLE RIVALRY TURNED INTO ADMIRATION AND LOVE). His acts for the team and universe have proved him worthy to be the red paladin.
Keith’s struggle with accepting his new role as the black paladin was displayed much more overtly in the show. Scared of losing Shiro again and feeling unready to lead a team after a life of isolation and struggle with people, Keith was extremely skeptical about becoming the black paladin. His journey focused on learning to work with as well as lead others and develop meaningful connections with his teammates. While keith piloted the red lion, he didn’t need to work with anyone because of the sheer talent him and his lion exhibited in combat and flight. However, Shiro’s guidance in forming relationships with his teammates helped him to use his strengths to boost the team. When he became the black paladin, keith had to officially adopt the role he had unofficially grown into through the bonds he made with the paladins and the tactical knowledge he used to guide the team. The “unstable” red paladin of the beginning of the show accepted and understood the importance of adopting a major leadership position, despite his own insecurities and fears.
Lance and Keith’s shared connection to the blue and red lions, their connection to shiro, and their willingness to reveal their deepest values and emotions to each other have established them as having one of the most powerfully bonded relationships in the series. Lance and Keith have been through a lot, but despite it all, they have always been devastatingly, meaningfully, and compassionately intertwined, to the deepest internal themes of their characters and storylines.

so you've talked a bit about Voltron and Last Airbender on this blog, and I was wondering about what both the galra populace in general and Lotor specifically would think of Zuko's refusal to fight his father. would it be viewed as noble or as disrespect/cowardice?
Zuko's conduct would be considered noble, but Ozai's was disgraceful.
Zuko: "If I'm going to lead this nation one day, don't you think I need to start learning as much as I can?"
One of the very first things we see of the events leading up to the Agni Kai, is Zuko's reasoning for even being present in that war council in the first place: he is determined to learn from his father and those whose council the Fire Lord keeps, so that he himself may be properly prepared to wear the Fire Nation crown when that burden ultimately falls to him. This is not only noble, but dutiful too, and shows an incredible level of self-awareness & responsibility given that Zuko was only t h i r t e e n at the time.
When one of Ozai's Generals explains his plan to sacrifice a division of entirely new recruits to an Earth Kingdom battalion, intending to use them as a diversion with the self-confessed expectation that they will all fail and die, Zuko's response is one of outrage—
Zuko: "You can't sacrifice an entire division like that! Those soldiers love and defend our nation! How can you betray them?"
—and this is exceedingly telling of his moral character. Where all the veterans in that room take this to be an acceptable loss (and the General who suggested it in fact seeming quite perversely pleased with the idea), Zuko views these untested greenhorns not as pieces on a board, but people; his father's people, one day his people, and though everyone in that room sees great value in them and their loyalty to the Fire Nation, Zuko alone thinks not of how to exploit this but rather how to be worthy of their devotion rather than see it misplaced.
So from a galra perspective, Zuko has many of the qualities that I previously expressed would win Keith favour:
straightforward without a taste (let alone the aptitude) for mind-games
stands with absolute conviction and is willing to fight for what he believes in
kind, considerate, and loyal
Iroh: "The Fire Lord became very angry with him. He said that Prince Zuko's challenge of the General was an act of complete disrespect, and there was only one way to resolve this. [Agni Kai, a fire duel.] Zuko looked upon the old general he had insulted and declared that he was not afraid, but Zuko misunderstood. When he turned to face his opponent, he was surprised to see it was not the General. Zuko had spoken out against the General's plan, but by doing so in the Fire Lord's war room, it was the Fire Lord whom he had disrespected."
Now this is actually crucial to understanding Zuko's character and sense of loyalty, because he never intended to disrespect his father, and frankly I don't think he had any idea that Ozai had even taken offence until he was stood across from from at the Agni Kai.
Zuko: "Please, Father! I only had the Fire Nation's best interest at heart! I'm sorry I spoke out of turn!" Ozai: "You will fight for your honour." Zuko, falling to his knees, head bowed: "I meant you no disrespect! I am your loyal son." Ozai: "Rise and fight, Prince Zuko." Zuko: "I won't fight you." Ozai: "You will learn respect, and suffering will be your teacher."
By the end of this exchange, Zuko is on his knees, tears literally streaming down his face, and trembling like a leaf. He is terrified, and yet, despite that, we are explicitly told that Zuko outright refused to fight his father—nor did he resist in any other manner, or so we can assume by the placement of his burn scar being the entire front half of his face, rather than on his arm had he shielded himself, or on his back had he run—and thus Ozai further condemns him, claiming that Zuko's refusal to fight him had been a display of "shameful weakness."
This would be significant to the Galra threefold.
For one, and I cannot stress this enough, Zuko was a child. As I've reiterated a thousand times children are precious to the galra, immeasurably so, and therefore to raise a single hand to a child is grave offence, but to not only burn them so severely that it scars, but make a public show of it?? That kind of cruelty is an outrage. If Zuko was wrong, he deserved to be corrected and educated (something he himself actively sought hence his attending the meeting in the first place!), not mutilated.
For another, there's the scar itself. Horrific as the circumstances surrounding its acquisition were, from a galra perspective Zuko's handling of the situation was befitting of the greatest of warriors. Imperial attitude towards scars are such that they are generally considered badges of honour: something to be revered and even reveled in. A scar is the mark of a battle survived, and in fact, the only instance in which a scar might be treated with disdain is if it were on one’s back, as this might imply either foolishness for having turned away from your enemy, or, worse yet, cowardice due to the bearer having tried to flee rather than fight. Zuko, however, despite his youth, despite his fear, despite not deserving it in the slightest,,, faced his father head on and accepted Imperial judgment. There are fully-fledged warriors ten times his age that would struggle to do the same, and that alone is worthy of the highest commendation.
While the galra would consider the Agni Kai itself a perfectly acceptable method of resolving an otherwise unsolvable dispute, the bare minimum one would expect would be each participant knowing who the other was and on exactly what grounds the challenge was set. So finally, even if Zuko were an adult who spoke out against a plan that his Emperor endorsed, he did so without knowing that his Emperor endorsed it: Ozai at no point made this clear, we know from context that this was Zuko's first time in the war room (so he had no prior frame of reference for what was / wasn't appropriate), and upon learning that his father had taken offence he immediately //throws himself at his feet in sincere apology and pleads for mercy//... there were several steps that should have been taken before resorting to rite of combat, and Ozai disregarded each and every one in favour of making a malicious point. It wasn't behaviour befitting of any galra in a position of power, but least of all the Emperor.
Ultimately, the galra consider it the Emperor's duty (or, in this case, the Fire Lord's) to serve and protect the Empire and all its citizens; yes, sometimes this is going to come at a steep cost, and yes, sometimes the good of the many may indeed come at the cost of the few, but irrespective of whether Zuko's opinion at the war council was right or wrong, Ozai's reaction was entirely disproportionate. For all the galra are a people with a strong sense of loyalty to their Emperor/Empress, this is something that’s supposed to go both ways, so they will remain loyal to their Monarch only for so long as said Monarch is loyal to their people in return, and absolutely nothing about Ozai's conduct surrounding the Agni Kai indicated that this was the case.
Tldr; Ozai's a POS, thanks for coming to my ted talk.
#zuko is a GOOD!! BOY!! who DESERVED!! BETTER!! and the galra would adore him#Ao3 Little Blade#sa screams back#atla
