I was in my mid-30s when I started HRT. I have experienced so much change and still continue to do so several years down the line. Like @taskgirlfailuredsuccessfully said, it doesn't make your life "perfect" - but that's a given! There is no such thing as perfection. There are things that bring us joy and comfort and delight in ourselves as people, and HRT has absolutely done that for me. Here I am nearing 40 and feeling the most confident and honestly attractive than I ever have before. It's never too late.
Hrt will help you no matter your age. You can not get hrt "too late," because it's never too late. You will be happy, you will be beautiful, don't be afraid to pursue what you want just cuz of age.

Not every day has to count. Some days are for repairing, resting, mourning. You don't have to perform every day. Some days are for doing nothing. For sleeping all day or being on your phone. Relaxing is ok, allowed and encouraged. Do what you need to do.

all you’ve got to do is pick one activity to do tomorrow. One thing to look forward to. Find a new movie or tv show you want to watch. Check out if there are any local bands playing gigs nearby. Find a random new skill to teach yourself. Do your grocery shopping at a different supermarket. Play stardew valley with someone. Find a new recipe to learn how to cook. See what movies are in cinemas near you. Find a niche museum or community centre in your town. Explore a new park. Go to a thrift store. Go sit in the library for a few hours. Get coffee with a loved one. You can’t leave yet, you’ve got that activity to go do. Keep picking activities. I love you. Stay safe.

It’s not over. It’s not fucking over. Until they steal the breath from our lungs and the last of us has given up or given in, nothing is finished.
Today’s to-do list:
1) Take care of yourself.
2) Take care of each other.
3) Start planning.

It's Worth It
As someone who has been stuck in the drafting stages for a long time, I get it. The slog gets tough. You take ages to rewrite something, only to realize the changes you've made contradict what needs to come later. Many hours have been wasted staring at walls, trying to get things to work.
But it will work. You will reach a point where everything makes sense. You will find a way to let go of great words that no longer have a place in your story, because you will be be able to replace them with better ones. You will end up with a better story that you will be proud of.
Keep going.

if you're a recovering addict, i want you to know you're doing good.
you didn't use today? you're doing good. you used recently and you're still recovering? you're doing good. you sought support today? you're doing good. you practiced harm reduction? you're doing good. you want to relapse and haven't? you're doing good. you're getting involved, even if others are doing more? you're doing good. you're resting today? you're doing good. you're alive? you're doing good.
this shit takes time. you have spent a considerable amount of time doing harmful things to yourself, or others. you're not going to change overnight. all you can reasonably do is get through the day, adding as much good to your life/the lives of others as you can. it doesn't matter what happened yesterday, or what's going to happen tomorrow.
all you have is this moment, and if you're on the path of recovery... you're doing good. this is your story. not someone else's. not some idealized version of yourself. it's yours, just as you exist, right now. that's all you have, and all you need.
keep going. you got this. i'm glad you're here (and so is everyone else who interacted with this post).
