I see a lot of people saying that Alvar was forgiven in Unravelled but he wasn't really. he wasn't forgiven by keefe or anyone else. the acts he committed were unforgivable.

but what he did get was a redeeming arc. and no they are not the same thing.

unforgivable and unredeemable are two different things, and alvar's ( and cassius' and even bronte's ) characters reveal that.

someone can deeply regret their past mistakes and make amends or try to atone for them, but those they hurt may still refuse to forgive them. this is how they are redeemed in terms of their actions but remain unforgiven by those affected.

Alvar did some of the shittiest things possible, and despite helping keefe right now, keefe still doesn't forgive him for the past. he makes a clear distinction between the Alvar who fucked up and the Alvar who is trying to move forward. a new person who who befriend Alvar would be unable to reconcile the Alvar of never-ending and the Alvar of humanland.

I think it definitely added a complexity to both their characters, especially Alvar's. I don't think this is the last we've seen of him.

(also we all think Alvar is zesty right?)

so i wasnt able to live blog this last tnight but i wanna talk about cassius.

i love how we see a more sympathetic side of him and we are NOT expected to forgive him for how he treated keefe. its a really good lesson that just because neglectful and abusive parents help you, doesnt mean that you ned to forgive them. i really like how Unraveled humanized him without excusing him.

i wish shannon would let fitz be a competent telepath even when he works alone. like at the beginning of the series we are told that he is literally one of the greatest telepaths ever despite only being a year into it. where did this go? just because sophie is more talented than he is, doesn't mean the existence of his own talent will be magically erased. like in legacy he should've found lord cassius's memories by himself. sophie didn't even have to inflict or use some special moonlark power to find those memories . . . fitz should've been allowed to do that by himself. and then he could've found alvar by himself and killed him and we never would've had to deal with unraveled alvar
