Mazm week day 7 entry for estrangement. FINALLY IM DONE HELLLLL YEAH! 517 words under the cut!

“Kay…” The name was softly uttered from across the room, almost imperceptible if it wasn't for the fact it was near silent. 

“What is it Pollie?” He half wanted to say ‘can it wait until tomorrow?’ as he was nested comfortably in his bed. But he resolved to have been kinder towards her. The best way to have done that was with his words first.

“Sorry… it's- do you miss anyone from London?” Pollie whispered from her bed. 

“That's- sudden.” 

“I know. I know. It's been a while. It's- when I read that letter from Alan… I miss his smile y'know? His stupid nagging… He's still nagging but it feels different. Then I think about Gramps and his nagging…” In the dim moonlight, Kay could make out the features of Pollie grow sad. In turn his own lips curled into a frown. 

Why did Pollie have to remind him of his own plight? Had she thought he'd move on already just because his last encounter with the man was negative? 

His own mentor, attempting to kill him.

It made the departure easier, but now he'd have to deal with the aftermath. 

“I miss Alan too. Miss Mihir…” 

“Of course you miss him.” The statement sounded almost jealous, or even harsh, but Kay knew it was just an attempt to lighten the mood. Besides, she had her own score to settle with the man that she never quite could.

“Oh stuff it! I won't talk to you for the rest of the night if you'll be like this…” 

“I'm kiddin’! I'm kiddin’… I understand. He's the one that got us here in the first place…” 

“Yes…” And finally did they run out of anything else to say for that night. But there was much to ponder then.

Kay hoped Jekyll was safe, maybe even happy, even though he had wronged him in such a terrible way. 

It was heartbreak, it was cathartic. So much and so little.

Perhaps he should've seen it from the start, from the very moment he was placed under his care. 

Father Michael was gentle, supportive of all his endeavors even if they ended in failure. Those failures were a learning experience, he had said. It was best to get lost in science. 

And Jekyll… his approach was what one could call pragmatic. Sure for the sake of humanity, but… oddly self-serving. 

And the fruits of his seperation of duality… its fangs, its sharp claws. What he created was no longer human.

The concept in itself was flawed from the beginning. Perhaps he should've stopped him before he'd ever given life to the idea. But he knew no matter what he would've done, this would've been the outcome. 

He was more than willing to make amends, to do something useful. And Jekyll… had thrown him out before his real potential began.

The only authority he could've trusted was Father Michael, it was apparent. He would now dedicate his achievements to Father and Father alone. That much brought peace in his heart despite his newfound estrangement. 

Jekyll was nothing to him, and that was alright.

It's been a while since I've played the game so if I'm just wrong, correct me, but Kay always felt like a character to me that should be trans, but is not fully treated as such.

Like, Kay goes by he/him and male terms, even when it's not strictly necessary. He goes by he/him with people who know he's the maid burglar. Mihir pretty explicitly treats Kay like a trans man, with his father being transphobic.

Even if Kay wasn't intentionally written as transgender, the parallels are right there and you can't tell me no one noticed. The devs could've made it clear that, "Kate doesn't actually identify as male and it's just a disguise" but that's never really implied.

But from what I remember, Kay is still referred to by she/her and as Kate by the narration and it's kinda implied he's living as a woman after the game.

It makes me a bit sad. It would've been nice to get an explicitly queer MAZM character. I suppose with MAZM being in an iffy financial situation, they might not have wanted to risk losing their audience by making a character who's pretty definitively trans.

Won't stop me from headcanoning Kay as genderfluid, though.

I’ll be honest i HATE the way the QSMP fanbase is treating Gegg and Tallulah. Like Gegg literally just appears, bro hasn’t done a single thing and people start talking about how they want him to die 😭 ?? And Tallulah starts feeling insecure trough no fault of Gegg and the Gegg tag just EXPLODES with hate. I’m a big petty baby and i don’t like seeing /neg in the tags bro. It just kinda feels like tallulahs the golden child who can do no wrong and Geggs the scapegoat who’s blamed for everything, and i feel like people are already taking it too far

*taps a microphone and aggressively starts to clear my throat* "Goooooood evening, ladies and gentlemen!! How are y'all doing tonight?" [I smile and point my microphone at the crowd. Well, more specifically, the three people who made up the crowd: Kate, Mihir and Hyde]

"Well... I'm alright. But can I ask why you've brought us here together?!" Kay side eyed to where Hyde was tied down to a chair. Sure his bindings would make him feel a bit safer, but it was Hyde.

"Same as Mr. Seek. I am fine. But why do I have to be seated by this brute?" Mihir turned his eyes to his side to Hyde.

"Just because I'm tied up doesn't mean I can't hear you two! When I get out of here..."

"Statistically speaking your chances are pretty low! It's 2 against 1, and Mihir is way stronger than you-" Before Kay could keep speaking, Hyde thrashed around in his bonds in rage. The sight was reminiscent of a caged animal.

"Okay okay! I'll stop!"

the thing about chisaki kai is. he was a street kid, right? in the anime, that flashback of him meeting pops--pops says "you've got nowhere to go." homeless. a street kid.

now.

imagine something. two street kids. maybe they're teenagers. maybe they're younger. maybe one of them's a teenager and one of them's like 7. doesn't matter. imagine these two street kids--they've found food in a place where food is either scarce or inaccessible. but there's only enough food for one of them. the other one will die of starvation. if they split the food, they'll both die of starvation.

one of these kids is thinking i don't know if i deserve this food more than them. the other kid is thinking i'll do anything to get that food and survive.

and let me ask you now: which of these kids is going to die?
