Content Warning: This is a dark, angsty ficlet. There’s major character death. (They get better)
Kara gave the last of the trees a meaty shove and clapped her hands lightly, to shake off the dirt and tree bark that clung to her palms. She’d been called away from National City about twenty minutes ago to respond to a catastrophic landslide in Oregon that looked like a job for Supergirl. The villain trade had been a little light lately ever since the League went public, and she heard-
A thin crackle.
“Kara, get back to the Tower,” it was Alex, and her voice was strained, trembling. “Come back here right now. Directly here. Don’t stop anywhere and get here as fast as you can.”
Her feet had already left the ground by the time Alex had finished her message. Kara took off and ascended almost straight up, so that when she went hypersonic it didn’t harm anyone below.
“Alex?” she called, as she came in for a landing on the balcony. “What is it?”
Alex was inside with the others, wearing her costume but not her makeup or mask. She was deathly pale and her eyes were red rimmed and puffy from crying. Her voice hitched.
“I don’t know how to tell you this,” Alex began.
Kara’s stomach dropped.
“Tell me what?”
Alex went still, as if the words would not leave her. Kara could see her straining with the effort, cords standing out on her throat.
“Tell me what?”
“I… I can’t do this…”
“Tell me what?” Kara demanded.
“Lena’s been shot.”
Kara stared at her. Her eyes went wide and she felt a cold rush through her body as if someone had opened a door behind her into a blizzard.
“Where is she?”
“Kara, try to stay calm, let me-“
“I want to see her now, Alex. Where is she?”
Alex swallowed.
“She’s, ah, gone, Kara.”
“Gone where?”
“They tried to resuscitate her, but there was too much damage to her heart.”
“Okay, so we need a transplant? Do we have a candidate? Or an artificial one? She probably has one in her lab.”
A manic frenzy began to overtake her, as though energy crackled down her limbs. What Alex was saying made no sense. Lena wouldn’t need to be resuscitated. She was fine. She had to be fine. Lena was fine. That was that. Kara would go wait for her in her hospital room by the bedside, and-
“She passed, Kara. She didn’t make it.”
Kara blinked.
“Didn’t… make it… passed… you mean she… wait… Alex what the fuck are you saying to me?”
Alex looked away, hugging herself.
“She died, Kara. Lena’s gone.”
She stood there for a shocked instant, paralyzed, some part of her mind shielding her from the full implication of what she just heard.
Then it slammed into her like a freight train. Like an earthquake. Like the shockwave from her exploding home world. Kara had been off saving some rich fuck’s house from fucking mud and Lena was dead. Lena was dead. Lena was-
Kara screamed.
The initial blast blew Alex off her feet and sent her sliding a good ten feet across the floor as she clapped her hands over her ears. Every window and every piece of glass in the Tower shattered at once and every one in the surrounding buildings cracked. All over the city, dogs began barking.
When Kara fell to her knees, the world around her was rimed with frost; her wail had been an arctic blast. Alex sat up, staring at the blood on her palms that had trickled from her ears. Some distant, emotionally controlled, Kryptonian part of her concluded that she’d probably just destroyed her sister’s eardrums.
Alex was trying to say something but the words didn’t reach her. Everything was far away, on the other side of a low whine in her ears and the sound of her own rushing blood in her veins. Red-sun fire boiled within her, setting her eyes alight and wreathing her in vapor as her tears turned to steam.
“Kara,” she finally heard Alex say, but it was too late.
She flew straight up, heedless of the rent she tore in the roof of the Tower as she took flight. She screamed again, a wail of primal torment and rage, and the world went silent.
Truly silent.
The one sound she always listened for above all others was not there. The steady drum beat was not there. Kara lashed out at herself, tearing at fistfuls of her hair.
An inescapable certainty seized her: Lena had died knowing Kara was not going to save her.
Another scream, followed by twin beams of infinite heat blasting skyward like a false sunrise, bathing the world below in crimson hues. Part of her wanted to sweep her gaze down and burn it all, just start smashing and tossing and punching and wreck everything she could lay her hands on.
Her family, her home, her culture, her foster father, her aunt, they were all taken from her. Kara gave and gave and gave and no matter how she martyred herself the world just kept taking.
They took her Lena.
Kara looked down. Rage burned furnace hot inside her chest, threatening to consume her. Why wasn’t someone protecting her? Why was this allowed to happen? Someone just shot her?
She would find who did it and she would end him. She’d tear him to shreds with her bare hands and she would know who was responsible for this and she would smash and burn her way to them and they would pay. She would make them pay.
And her Lena would still be gone.
Nothing Kara could do would bring her back. She was helpless. She crushed her head in her hands and screamed and screamed again; there were military aircraft and police helicopters approaching and she didn’t care.
It was as if some great hooked claws had rent her open, as if every single one of her old wounds had burst at once. Kara had died for this world twice over and this was how they repaid her?
It was worse than that.
In her miserable fucking cowardice Kara has never told her.
Lena would never know how much Kara loved her. She would never smile for Kara again, never crinkle around her eyes as she laughed or look so achingly beautiful as she became lost in some scientific problem or journal article. She had been Kara’s red sunrise and now the sun was set forever.
There was no bringing her back.
Wait.
Kara’s eyes flew open.
There was a way. Clark had confessed it to her, and warned her never to try it.
Fuck that.
Kara rocketed straight up, tearing through the atmosphere until the void clapped straight around her. She had to be free of all resistance, not because it would slow her, but because she would ignite the atmosphere. This might not even work. She might solar flare right in the middle of it and die.
Maybe if she did she’d be with Lena. Maybe Rao would actually do something for her for once and she’d find herself in sunlit fields under a red sky with her Lena there for her.
Anything had to be better than this.
Kara flew. She put every iota of force she could muster into her flight, curving around the Earth. Within moments she was making complete orbits every few seconds.
It’s working, she thought. The red shift.
At this speed, all suns were red. The sky was an endless chaos of red pinpricks.
Faster.
Kara didn’t know how she flew. Not even her precious Lena had been able to crack that question, and she’s tried. Kara had never attempted to find her top speed, never tried to find out how fast she could go.
She could go faster.
Beneath her, Earth was frozen. When she used her super-speed, her mind sped up with it, and everything slowed to a crawl.
She was close now, she could feel it. She just had to go faster.
Faster.
FASTER
And she did.
The stars were gone. The Earth was gone. There was only endless black and-
Void. Nothingness. It had no color, nothing to actually see, just a limitless nothing.
Almost. There was one thing in the darkness, in the endless Outside.
“Clark?”
He was there with her in the void, just there, cape and spitcurl and all. Clark. Kal-El. Kara’s final mission from her people and the greatest of her many failures. Her cousin.
“What happened?” he said.
“It’s Lena,” Kara blurted.
He looked at her with big sad eyes. “Do you mean Lex’s sister?”
Kara blinked. “Who the hell else would I mean, Clark?”
“Oh,” he said. “When I got here you two hadn’t met yet, I suppose. You’re friends with her?”
Kara looked at him.
“Where are we?”
“The other side of the speed of light. This is what happens when you go superluminal without a warp drive or a hypergate.”
Kara flinched back.
“From your perspective you haven’t left yet,” said Kara. But how did…”
Her eyes went wide. Of course. She didn’t realize it at first because she had outrun the concept of movement itself.
She was still moving.
All she had to do was…
Stop.
Kara’s stomach did a backflip and she vomited into the vacuum, turning in space so she didn’t have to watch orbs of her own puke falling into the atmosphere.
She dove, straight down into the sky, chased by everlasting sunrise.
It only took a glance, and Kara saw a red streak headed north for Oregon, away from National City. She was watching herself fly away.
It worked.
It worked!
She slowed. She stopped. She listened. She found it.
Lena had left the Foundation and was walking downtown, probably to her new favorite coffee spot, just another woman in the crowd. Since she’s turned over control of the company to Sam and focused her working days on her philanthropy, she’d become softer, more casual, more, as she put it, west coast. She was just strolling down the street in a hoodie and scrolling her phone on her way to her inevitable end.
Kara steeled herself.
I’m Supergirl. I can do anything.
She swept low over the downtown crowd and landed in front of Lena.
She was so beautiful, so soft. So confused. She stared at Kara.
“I thought you were going to Oregon and we were getting dinner later?”
“Come with me now. Please. Please, Lee. I’m begging you.”
There was a brief, heavy pause. Kara swallowed hard. Lena looked at her for the barest moment, then allowed herself to be scooped up into Kara’s arms and flown gently, so very carefully, to the Tower.
When she landed, Kara gingerly set Lena on her feet and took a short step back. Alex came running into the room.
“Kara?”
“What?” said a voice in her ear. Her own voice, on her comms, entangled somehow because she was in both places at once.
Alex drew her weapon and aimed it at Kara’s head, gently taking Lena’s arm and pulling her back, then poked her ear.
“Kara you’ve got a doppleganger here. I’m not sure if she’s extra-dimensional or a shapeshifter.”
Kara sighed when she felt the rush behind her, the gust of air and the heavy landing of boot heels on the balcony.
“Don’t move,” Kara told Kara.
“I won’t,” she told herself.
“Who are you and what are you do-“
Kara turned and looked at herself. She’d experienced this too many times before. Shapeshifters, a clone, an evil version of herself from a broken timeline.
This was different in some inexplicable way, and the pain came.
They both screamed, not so loud this time, and suddenly Kara was actually in two places at once, looking at herself looking at herself in an infinite loop and then…
One.
Kara was staring at Lena and Alex, standing where her past self had been standing a few moments earlier. She shook her head and… Lena.
Lena!
Kara rushed to her, gathering her up in a fierce hug, nuzzling her nose into her hair to take in her scent.
“You’re alive!” Kara exulted.
“You’re covered in mud,” Lena protested, pushing her back.
Kara let her.
Lena looked at Kara, then at Alex.
“Wait,” she said, soft eyes searching. “How did I get here, exactly?”
“How did you get here?” said Alex. “I don’t remember you coming in. I thought I was calling Kara back. I had to tell her something. It was…” her brows furrowed.
Kara swallowed, hard.
Wait. Why had she come back? She’s dealt with the landslide but she… just went hypersonic to get here? Why?
It didn’t matter. She was gripped by conviction. She just knew, somehow, that she had to do this.
“Lena, I’m sorry about the mud. Listen, since you’re here, I wanted to ask you… want to hang out tonight? At my place?”
“S-sure,” Lena said, blinking.
“What’s wrong?” said Alex.
“I don’t know,” said Lena. “I felt this odd sensation for a moment and then it was… almost like deja vu, but then…” she trailed off. “I need to get back to my office.”
“I’ll change and walk you back,” said Kara.
“Right. I’ll wait in the rec room.”
Lena turned and walked slowly out of the room, muttering to herself.
Alex stared at her.
“What was that about?”
“I’m telling her tonight.”
“Telling her what?”
“That I’m in love with her.”
Alex looked at her flatly.
“Well,” she said, “it’s about fucking time.”

Okay, it's happening. Currently thinking about a Supergirl/SG-1 crossover. I'm thinking that it would be best to set it post finale, established Supercorp, with an alternate reality hop to meet the SG-1 folks.
But first some ground rules about Lena's magic. For this AU I'm feeling a more WOT type magic, where Lena uses her hands/arms/body to manipulate the magical currents of the natural world around her. Less mumbo jumbo spells, more 'let me hurl this fireball at you'. But she is 100% a nature witch. Earth, wind, fire, water, weather, you name it. Extremely powerful, and totally comfortable in her magic.
Meanwhile Kara is also fully comfortable in herself, all of herself, having joined the two parts of herself in the public eye for years now. She's very casual and laid back, until the moment someone she loves is threatened. Then, all bets are off.
They're trying to get home from Argo using a transmat portal when Lena and Kara are instead spat out through the Stargate via an unscheduled offworld activation. They emerge to find dozens of weapons pointed at them. Kara immediately steps between them and Lena, her arms outstretched even as Lena subtly begins to weave a shield of air for them both.
Upon finding their guests to be two unarmed seemingly human women, Hammond orders his men to stand down. The two are carefully welcomed to explain themselves, and they debrief in an interrogation room, courtesy of Colonel Jack O'Neill.
Kara and Jack hit it off almost immediately. Jack asks a semi-serious question, Kara quips a dry answer, and Jack just lights up. "I like her," he tells Carter. Sam rolls her eyes.
Lena's brain is already going a mile a minute trying to speculate what could have happened to bring them here. Sam asks some astute questions, and then they're off to the races, bouncing ideas off each other back and forth trying to narrow down an explanation.
But an explanation is only half the problem. The other half is getting home. While Lena and Sam hole up in Sam's lab, Kara bonds with Teal'c over being an alien on Earth, with Daniel over languages and planets they've been to, and with Jack over, well, being who they are. They just vibe. Go fishing, even.
When SG-1 gets into trouble off world, Lena and Kara insist that Hammond dial them out to provide back up. Hammond refuses, but they sneak through with the backup he does send.
Everyone is shocked when the two of them stride confidently into battle. Kara runs interference, deflecting bullets and blaster bolts alike as Lena walks tall, her arms lifting with fingers outstretched. Drawing energy from the foreign planet around her, fissures open up in the ground, separating the encroaching Jaffa from the tauri forces defending the gate.
As though in slow motion, Kara sweeps in and out, blocking Lena from enemy fire as her partner calls up a storm. The wind swirls, rain comes, and finally Lena throws her arms wide, palms up, and tilts her face up into the rain. With a crack of thunder, a bolt of lightning comes crashing down, striking the ground like a bomb and sending rock and mud and Jaffa flying into the air.
In the quiet aftermath, all weaponsfire ceases as Jaffa retreat in fear and shock, while the Taur'i stare in awe.
Sam turns to Jack with a cocked smile.
"Oh... I like her."
#supercorp#sg1 xover au#established supercorp#and yes kara is essentially lena's warder in this#i am 100% aware of this#but would she do literally anything else?

“wE nEvEr ReMoVeD aNyThiNg fOr bEiNg tOo gAy.”
Man, the producers and writers of Supergirl on The CW really did just lie, gaslight and queerbait for sport, huh?
Kara almost dying and her biggest pain/loss of all time was losing her HOME, and hurting LENA.
LENA’S FACE was the last thing she’d see.
I repeat, in the Crisis crossover script they really had Lena as Kara’s biggest loss in life — equal to that of watching her home planet destroyed and losing her family as a child.
They could’ve added in the time she hurt Alex or the idea of losing Alex, or losing Mon-El more than once, worrying about her friends, etc.
But they really just said nope… in her final moments of life, Supergirl would be thinking about her home planet, and Lena Luthor.
LENA’S FACE WAS THE LAST THING KARA PICTURED BEFORE SHE (NEARLY) DIED.
That’s some next level romantic soulmate shit. Between Maines’s book confirming they knew what they were doing and it was queerbait, and a SGCW / Batwoman writer making them official in the DC/Arrowverse canon follow up comic via a romantic date on the page and online confirmation when asked —
Kara/Lena really were that ship.
Supercorp really was endgame.

“You didn’t jump,” Kara said.
Lena glanced up from her lo mein container, chopsticks in hand. “Jump?” Lena asked curiously.
Kara nibbled her lip thoughtfully, staring down at her potstickers. The evening had been a quiet one - a welcomed change of pace, after a wonderful and chaotic afternoon at Alex and Kelly’s wedding. When all was said and done - after the couple had left for their honeymoon and the party had quieted, after Eliza had taken Esme home for a fun week making chocolate chip cookies with her grandmother - Kara and Lena had found themselves in Kara’s apartment, settling down in their pajamas with a dinner of Chinese takeout.
“For Kelly’s bouquet,” Kara said. “You didn’t jump.”
Lena shrugged, digging into her food with her chopsticks again. “It wasn’t heading towards me.”
“You could’ve used magic,” Kara suggested, thinking of how a certain other super had used her powers to yank the flowers midair.
“And start a duel with Nia?” Lena grinned. “Seemed unwise. Besides, she has a likely candidate.”
Kara smiled.
“At least I was there,” Lena teased softly. “I didn’t see you in the crowd.”
Kara shrugged. “It’s a human tradition.”
Lena tilted her head. “What did Krypton have?”
Kara grimaced. “Genetic testing. AI matching. Rules about guild marriages,” she said, “My uncle destroyed the AI, at least. But romance was secondary on Krypton.”
“What about now? On Argo?”
“Romantic love is… still an alien concept, on Argo,” Kara said thoughtfully, popping another potsticker in her mouth. “It existed in some of our stories. But our upbringing, our culture- we had to squash a lot of that down.”
“And now?”
“Now it’s like…” Kara’s voice had lowered to a murmur, and Lena noticed a pink tint rising in her cheeks. Kara cleared her throat, staring into her food. “Now it’s like they’re marrying a close friend,” she continued. “I wouldn’t say they have romance like Earth does.”
“Like marrying a friend,” Lena mulled.
Kara quietly picked at her food.
“And what about you?” Lena said, partially curious, partially… well. She knew Kara could hear how her heart had started pounding, as much as she wished she could hide it.
“Me?”
“You grew up there. But you’ve been here for so long. Where do you fall?”
Kara’s brow crinkled. “I think I…like all the little things,” she murmured. “Giving flowers and chocolate. Kissing. Holding hands.”
“But?”
“Not a but,” Kara said as she glanced up - still avoiding Lena’s eyes, but looking thoughtfully ahead. “It feels so alien to me, but in this wonderful way. Exhilarating. Strange. I feel like I have this chimeric type of romance in my head - not Earthian, not Kryptonian. Like romance is…”
Kara grew quiet, turning her head to her food again, staring silently as the blush on her cheeks seemed to deepen.
Lena watched for a moment, taking in the unmoving kryptonian - the hint of tightness in her posture, the unusual muteness and stillness. “What is romance for you, Kara?” Lena whispered.
Kara slowly tilted her gaze up to meet Lena’s. “My perfect partner at a game night,” she confessed quietly. “Knowing someone so well that it feels like magic when we’re together.”
Lena let out the breath she didn’t realize she had been holding.
Kara nibbled nervously at her lip. “You- you don’t have to see it that way,” Kara said, her voice cracking. “It’s not- it doesn’t have to change anything. But I’ll understand if it’s too much…”
“I feel it too,” Lena whispered. “When I’m with you. It always feels like magic.”
“Really?” Kara said. “You could want- you-”
“I didn’t want to catch the bouquet unless it was for you,” Lena confessed. “I just- all I want is to be with you.”
Kara smiled wide, and Lena watched on as the tension seemed to melt away from the still-blushing kryptonian’s frame. “I love you, Lena.”
Lena smiled back. “I love you too.”

Supercorp headcanon:
Kara and Lena are both clingy, but in very different ways. Kara is obviously one who seeks and gives physical touch at any available moment. At first, this disturbed Lena. For most of her life, touch meant fear, anger, and revulsion.
Over time and with lots of set backs, Lena becomes adjusted to Kara’s touch and starts to crave it. For someone as touch starved as she is, Lena is still incredibly controlled as she seeks Kara’s comfort. While Lena will rarely initiate even the shortest of hugs, as soon as Kara hugs her, or holds her hand, Lena grasps on and holds tightly until Kara breaks the contact.
This is all well and good until other people start to notice. Once the Superfriends start commenting on their perpetual close proximity, Lena becomes self conscious and refuses to touch Kara. Of course, Kara thought she had upset Lena in some way and almost begs Lena to tell her how she can make up her “transgression.” Lena eventually admits that she was embarrassed of being called out and didn’t want to overstep any boundaries. Kara repeatedly assures Lena no boundary was crossed, and even vehemently encourages the brunette to seek Kara’s physical intimacy.
Here begins the complete and utter downfall of their “friendship” as they know it. Now both women are constantly touching, cuddling, and hugging. They touch so often that it becomes a rarity for them to be apart in any way if they are in the same room. Whether it be a hand at Lena’s back or Kara’s arm, the women are completely inseparable.
It isn’t until Kara starts pulling Lena into her lap at game nights or the bar that Lena begins to question how common it is for best friends to be as connected as they are. By all accounts, it’s not common, but at this point, Lena may go through withdrawals if she dials it back. So she says nothing and enjoys Kara’s intimacy while it lasts.
Once Kara starts kissing Lena’s cheek, forehead, and hand at any possible moment, Lena starts to think something is off about their friendship. The night Kara kisses her on the lips as the watch The Proposal, Lena builds up enough courage to confront Kara.
“What are we doing?”
“What do you mean?”
“I mean, what are we doing with the hugs, the touching, and now the kissing? Fuck, two days ago we woke up spooning and you haven’t said a word! When are we going to address this—this—”
“Lena.”
“I don’t understand, how can it be normal for friends to—”
“Lena! We aren’t friends. And we haven’t been for a long time...”
Like a record scratching, Lena freezes and just stares. When she comes back to herself, Kara is still talking but it feels like she’s messed a thing or two.
“…we’ve been dating for months, Lena. I thought you would be comfortable with this by now. We can take a step back if you want, but…”
“Dating? What do you mean dating?”
“Lena, what did you think we were doing this whole time? The constant contact, the lunch dates, and sleepovers. You really didn’t think anything of what we’ve been doing?”
Lena realizes that, just maybe, she wasn’t the best judge of what is and isn’t normal in a friendship. She also comes to the conclusion that she doesn’t want any of it to end.
“I..I thought this was normal? I didnt realize you were under the impression that we were dating. It seems that I have been a bit obtuse as to the status of our relationship.”
Kara is almost horrified at their months long miscommunication. The blonde sees no smooth way out of the situation and so begins what could have turned out to be the ramble of the century.
“So what, do we just stop? I’m sorry, I just thought we were taking it slow. Forgive me, if I had known—if I knew…I’m, I’m so sorry Lena, I’ll just go, and we can forget this ever happened—”
“NO!”
“No? Okay, I’ll give you some space—”
“No, Kara. I don’t want space. I don’t want anything to change. I want the dates, and the cuddling, and the kissing, and nights out with our friends. I want everything with you, Kara,” says Lena, as she reaches to grasp Kara face between her hands.
Kara leans into the touch, slowly gravitating closer to where Lena sits on her couch. Even as Kara grows closer, she hesitates to close the final distance between their lips. She couldn’t bear for Lena to dangle this opportunity between them.
“You do, are you sure?”
Lena decides that her next actions will speak louder than any platitudes she could give to Kara. With a push at Kara’s chest guiding her to lean back, Lena crawls into Kara’s lap, grasps Kara by the back of her neck, and leans down to place the slowest, sweetest kiss to Kara’s lips.
Not one to be outdone, Kara trails her hands along the sides of Lena’s thighs and up her back. Her left hand continues up to tangle into Lena’s hair while the right slides down to grasp Lena firmly by the ass.
With a small gasp, Lena deepens the kiss. With a gentle prod of her tongue to Kara’s lips, Lena licks into Kara’s mouth with a skillful tongue. With a groan, Kara separates their kiss.
“So, does this mean you’re my girlfriend?”
The brunette throws her head back in a joyful laugh.
“Yes, darling. I’ll be yours if you promise to be mine.”
Kara’s face lights up in happiness.
**********************
Months have gone by and Kara and Lena are happier than ever. Somehow they have grown closer, and although they have to deal with constant teasing remarks from all their friends, they wouldn’t separate for anything.

Supercorptober 2024 Day 5: Alone
ao3 fic link.
Lena wakes up, and she knows instantly she’s alone. Panic sets in for a moment, because Kara wouldn’t just leave, not after last night.
Lena would though. Lena has, after a one night stand where they did what they needed to do so she left in the early hours of the morning.
But this isn’t like this, this is Kara. Kara who told her she loves her, Kara who kissed her so gently that Lena cried.
This is Kara, her best friend, the person she trusts most, the person she loves the most, and now she knows Kara loves her too.
Lena sits up and looks around, blanket clutched to her chest. She sees her clothes neatly folded in a pile, which is definitely not where she left them last night. She’s pretty sure some didn’t even make it into the room.
Lena blushes at the memory.
She looks around for her phone, and realises it didn’t make it to the room with them either, that it’s probably still in her purse in the living room.
That’s the first thing she needs, to find Kara. That, and she needs coffee. She debates for a moment putting on her clothes but instead decides to grab a hoodie and pair of Kara’s pants instead.
The hoodie smells like Kara, this whole place does, and for a moment it makes her want to bury herself back in bed and wait for Kara.
Because she knows Kara wouldn’t just leave her, knows Kara will be back.
It’s in the kitchen that Lena figures out where Kara is gone. Or at least that she’ll be back, a scribbled note on the table.
Be back soon. -K x
It’s still early, and Lena knows she probably should go back to her own apartment, shower and get ready for work. But she’s not going to do that, not yet. Because all she can think about is seeing Kara, kissing her again and making sure that she doesn’t regret what happened.
Lena doesn’t.
Lena hasn’t even had time to consider making herself a coffee when the door clicks open and Kara is walking through the door.
“Oh,” Kara startles, clearly not expecting to see Lena. For a moment, Lena wonders if she should have left, but she doesn’t need to worry when Kara continues. “I was hoping to surprise you in bed.”
Lena had been so focused on Kara, she hadn’t noticed the paper bag and coffee cup holder in her hands.
Lena suddenly doesn’t know what to say. This is all new to her. Not only has their relationship changed overnight, but she doesn’t want to mess this up. Kara is too important to her and she can’t lose her over this. Lena doesn’t have a great track record with relationships and she’s never felt like this about anyone before, never wanted a relationship to work out like she wants this too.
“Are you panicking?” Kara asks, suddenly much closer than before, food no longer in her hands.
“No,” Lena replies. Kara raises her eyebrow and Lena knows she’s been caught. “Ok, maybe a little. I don’t want to mess this up.”
Kara takes her hands, and Lena instantly feels her thoughts settle, the warmth of Kara’s hands seeping into her skin.
“I know, me too. I don’t know what’s going to happen but I do know that you and me? We can do anything together. So, we probably will both mess up, but I know that no matter what happens, we can get through anything, because it’s us.”
Lena smiles. “Thank you.”
She knows this will be a constant worry but for now it’s quietened down, both because of Kara’s words but also because Kara is smiling now too and it’s hard to focus on anything else when Kara is smiling at her.
Kara leans forward and Lena gets the memo, meeting her halfway in a kiss that feels so much like coming home that Lena feels like crying again.
“Good morning,” Kara mumbles against her mouth, Lena can feel her smile against her own.
“You taste like cinnamon,” Lena replies, and Kara pulls away. Lena would regret her words but Kara is grinning, looking sheepish in a way that’s too cute for words.
“I got hungry.”
Lena laughs. When is Kara not hungry?
“I like this, too,” Kara says, tugging on Lena’s shirt. “You look good in my clothes.” Kara pauses. “You look good out of them too.”
Kara’s blushing as she says the words, it’s adorable.
“Is that so?” Lena asks, and it’s her turn to lift her eyebrow.
Kara leans forward, clearly embarrassed as she hides her face in Lena’s shoulder.
“Yes,” Kara mumbles and Lena laughs, wrapping her arms around her best friend. ...Or girlfriend? She’s not sure, but they’re going to have plenty of time to figure that out.
Lena grins. “Good to know.”

Every part of Lena Luthor’s soul was screaming at her do not do this.
Yet there Kara Danvers
(Kara Zor-El, last daughter of the house of El, LIAR.)
stood, bedraggled and tear-tracked, hunched in Lena’s doorway like a tiny kitten begging her for food. Lena wondered how she did it, how she made herself so small and unassuming, pathetic even. It was more than a change of clothes and hair and ripping off her glasses. She truly changed, somehow.
Changed to deceive. Changed to mock, changed to take without giving, to make Lena a fool.
(it was a cruel thought, a green thought, a Lex thought)
“I’ve told you already, Kara. I don’t want you here. You’re a liar, you and all your little friends mocked me to my face and kept secrets behind my back.”
“It wasn’t like that.”
“I don’t believe you.”
That relentless sad puppy look of hers softened even further.
“Why?”
God above how Lena hated her. Hated her for daring to ask. Fuck you, that’s why.
(nothing hurts more than a question that has no answer)
“I hate you, that’s why.”
Kara swallowed hard, wringing her hands. She was dressed in her pajamas and had probably flown here, then landed and asked to come up like a normal person. Didn’t she see that was the problem?
“I don’t believe you.”
Lena threw up her hands. “Oh fuck off with that, Kara. You lost your favorite toy, get over it. I’m done with you. I moved on, you should too.”
“You let me in. I’ve seen the real you. You’re not vindictive. You’re not cruel. You’re a kind-hearted, selfless, compassionate person.”
“And you didn’t,” Lena snapped, moving to close the door. “You deceived me in the most fundamental way. You made me believe you cared for me and believed in me and saw the good in me. No one sees the fucking good in me, no one. No one did but you… and it was all a trick to keep an eye on the Luthor.”
“No, no, I didn’t-“
“You didn’t? Then why did you get James to spy on me? Why’d you question my motives? Why’d you keep lying to me after I proved myself over and over and over again? Because I was never good enough. It was never real.”
Kara rubbed her arms. “Do you really think I brought you into my circle of friends and held you in when you were sad and brought you to Thanksgiving and let you sleep over in my home to keep an eye on you?”
There was a heavy pause.
“That’s fucking insane,” Kara snarled.
Taken aback, Lena flinched, half at the profanity and half at the anger in Kara’s voice.
“I admit it,” her voice broke suddenly, “I can’t deny it. I can’t just dismiss how you feel, I get that, but I didn’t keep my secret from you because you were some kind of a project, Lena. I kept my secret because keeping it let me keep you. It was selfishness, pure and simple. I wanted my one friend who didn’t see me as a superhero. I wanted… I wanted what I always want, things I cannot have.”
There was such agony in her voice that it cut through Lena’s growing fury like a blade sinking into clay, stuck fast, hot in her chest.
“I knew I’d lose you to it eventually. I didn’t do it for you. I did it for me.”
Lena blinked a few times, feeling her resolve start to shake.
(another manipulation. she will do anything, say anything to get back in your good graces)
(to do what, Lex? to what end?)
“Say what you came here to say.”
“I kind of did, but I have one more thing to ask.”
“Then ask it.”
Kara swallowed. “I want to pretend.”
Lena’s brow arched.
“Pretend what?”
“Just pretend it’s like it was. For one night. Just give me one more night and I promise you I will never bother you again. You’ll never see me or Supergirl for the rest of your life.”
“You’re on TV every day.”
“I meant in person.”
“And stop talking about yourself like you’re two different people.”
Kara sniffed.
“Okay,” she muttered.
Lena stood there for what felt like an eternity, screaming at herself not to do this.
(do it, it’ll make it hurt more)
(me or her?)
Lena stepped aside.
Kara entered. She brushed at her eyes, adjusted her glasses, and walked into Lena’s expansive, cold, dark penthouse.
As soon as she did, it was as if the light came back. It felt warm again, seeing her standing there. Having her here, in her cute little pajamas with her braid over one shoulder, those big eyes open and hopeful.
Lena closed the door.
“What do… what do you want me to do? Us to do?”
“We could watch a movie, maybe get Chinese delivered. Have you eaten? I doubt you’ve eaten.”
Lena hadn’t, actually. She hadn’t eaten today and had eaten only scraps yesterday and only because Jess insisted.
Kara touched Lena’s side, a soft brush of fingers over her ribs, and winced.
“You’re starving yourself,” she murmured. “Oh, Lena.”
“Kara-“
She already had her phone out and was ordering. Of course Kara had Lena’s place still saved in DoorDash.
Lena grabbed her hand to stop her.
“My treat.”
Lena fetched her own phone and put in a quick order- of course she had all of Kara’s favorites saved and of course she almost sent them to Kara’s address instead of her own.
“I ordered.”
Lena looked down at herself, wondering why the hell she was doing this. She was still dressed for the lab, so she retreated to her bedroom.
When she opened the closet her eyes immediately went to the maroon Midvale High School sweatshirt hanging at the far end of the rack, where it had been defying her for months. She should have burned the god damn thing but every time she reached for it, her hand pulled back of its own accord.
Not today. She let it fall over her, oversized for her frame and too long, and changed from slacks to leggings and pumps to bare feet, her toes curling from the cold hardwood floors.
Kara had already taken up position on the couch and had put on one of her beloved movies, one they’d already watched together ten times and Kara had probably already seen ten times more. The Princess Bride.
It was a cheap ploy and Lena knew it.
It gouged at her anyway, leaving something raw in her chest. It ripped open every place she’d forced to herself to scab over, broke every stitch. She killed the lights, halfway out of tradition and halfway to make sure Kara didn’t see her fighting back the tears.
Neither of them spoke. They sat on opposite ends of of the couch. When the food arrived, Kara got up to get it from the driver and her absence was keen, the void she left behind ripping at Lena.
When she sat down again right next to her, Lena let her. She shoved a box of take out into Lena’s lap and insisted she eat. They ate in silence.
Kara’s heart wasn’t in it. She are aimlessly rather than shoving her food in her mouth and gobbling it all down in minutes as she usually did. She was pretending, hard.
Lena barely paid any attention to the movie. The food, normally seasoned and spiced to the point where she couldn’t stand it and ate only to please Kara, was bland and tasteless in her mouth.
Kara, haltingly and hesitantly, put her head on Lena’s shoulder, and winced when Lena’s shoulders hitched. Why the fuck was she doing this to herself?
The worst part was that it didn’t hurt. It felt like home. Even now after all she had done and all that Kara had done and said, feeling Kara’s sadness in her soft weight beside her was ripping her apart, the mad anger and rage swept aside by a torrent of grief she couldn’t hold back.
If she was going to pretend she might as well pretend. She put her arm around Kara and leaned into her, nuzzling her nose into Kara’s soft hair, wondering if her alleged best friend ever noticed that Lena’s favorite thing in the entire stupid fucked up world was a Kara Danvers hug and nothing was more precious to her than these times when she almost kissed the crown of Kara’s head.
How she ached.
The movie ended and Netflix began making suggestions.
“Kara,” Lena murmured. “Let’s go to sleep.”
“If we go to sleep the night will be over,” her voice was small, trembling.”
“I know, darling. Just let it be what it is.”
Kara nodded.
Lena’s pulse was pounding as she headed for the bedroom, wondering how Kara had never picked up on how decidedly unplatonic it was to fall asleep in each other’s arms. Neither spoke as they climbed into Lena’s California King, a bed big enough to drown in, sinking beneath a goose down comforter, Kara’s body heat like old coals from a campfire.
For a moment they lay apart, and then slowly came together in their usual way, Kara forming herself into a protective cocoon to shield Lena from… from everything. Morgan Edge, her brother, alien shotgun weddings, random nuts with a gun and a grudge, everything but the greatest threat, her worst enemy.
“I have to go in the morning,” Kara whispered, “so I better say this now. You are not a monster, Lena. I never wanted to ‘keep an eye on you’ other than to protect you and keep you safe. No matter what you do, I will never, ever give up believing in you, but if you want me gone, that’s what I have to do. I love you so much it hurts me. I can’t stand being apart from you but if that’s what you need from me that’s what I’ll give. I would do anything for you. If moving on is what you want…”
Kara took a ragged breath.
“As you wish.”
Lena felt something crack inside her. An image filled her mind: Kara. Kara with graying hair, walking away, walking off into the sunset like the hero she was, and with someone else… with a child between them, a future, a home…
“God damn you, Kara Danvers!” Lena snapped, shocked at the sound of her own voice. “God damn you for making me feel this way! Do you have any idea what you did to me? I can’t just turn it off, I can’t stop feeling.”
“This was a terrible idea,” Kara sighed. “I should have known better. I’m just hurting you more.”
Kara began pulling away.
Lena threw out her arms, locked her hands behind the neck of the most powerful being on the entire planet, and yanked. Hard.
Their lips came together in a crash. The force was all Lena’s, as Kara’s inhuman might yielded to her control. There were no words. Kara hesitated for a shocked moment before she kissed Lena back, looping her arms around Lena’s waist.
This was no stolen glance, no innuendo, no coy hint. When Lena kissed Kara she made as if to devour her, and was mounting her before she realized she was doing it. Kara yielded, she always yielded even when Lena pinned her wrists to the mattress and clamped her legs around Kara’s hips and ground on her like a horny teenager.
She kept expecting Kara to sputter, to push back… to be fucking straight, to be brutally honest about her intentions, but there was nothing straight in the way Kara shifted to grind against her, or the way she twisted her hands free and slid them under the soft Midvale High Sweatshirt and skimmed them over the bare skin of Lena’s back. There was no mistaking the intent of her kisses or the feral sound she made when the shedding of clothing began.
Lena must have shocked her at first, because when Kara recovered, she became a force of nature. Lena was quickly on her back and let out an excited yelp when Kara simply tore her leggings apart and bared her with a feral grin on her face before shedding her top with the same desperate energy.
When they came together, really came together, Lena was nearly overwhelmed. Kara was insatiable, relentless. Hokey cliches like “force of nature” were woefully inadequate.
She never ran out of stamina and she was gentle when needed and forceful when Lena wanted it, every stoke and motion and caress somehow perfect, and she sensed without needing to be told when Lena was ready to give rather than receive and yielded without a word.
They barely even had to talk, and when Lena was finally exhausted, Kara was there with kind touches and soft words and cared for her like the most precious thing in the world.
Lena fell asleep, deeply and soundly, and when she woke up with the sun on her skin and an empty bed she wondered if it was all an elaborate dream until she heard Kara humming halfway across the penthouse, grabbed the sweatshirt, and padded barefoot from the bedroom.
Kara was at the stove cooking breakfast and holding a spatula like a microphone, singing… a fucking Britney Spears song.
“I thought you were going to leave in the morning,” Lena sighed.
Kara froze.
“I’m glad you didn’t. I’d have to come get you.”
Kara turned to her with a billion watt smile.
“I was lying about leaving you alone.”
Lena walked over, arms around her waist, hugging herself. She cupped Lena’s chin with a hooked finger and the casual intimacy of it made Lena’s heart swell.
“I love you so much. I can’t breathe without you,” Kara whispered.
Lena took Kara’s wrist and guided her hand to cup her cheek, nuzzling against the soft skin of Kara’s palm.
“Stay?”
Kara nodded.

“You got anything to tell me about yesterday’s interview, Ponytail?”
Being cornered by one’s editor is rarely a good sign. Being cornered by a harried Snapper Carr one month into her tenure as a rookie reporter would be enough to give others nightmares for a month. Maybe ulcers. Kara, though, she’s been having a great week, and she’s not about to let anyone ruin it.
“Nope.” She pops the p a little. Something about Snapper’s moroseness always pushes her to be spitefully chipper.
“Nothing out of the ordinary?”
“Not at all.”
“Hm.” Snapper nurses the thought with that dour, toothachey look that Kara’s come to learn is directed at her just as much as it is a sign of his general displeasure with the world. He pulls out his phone, jabbing at the screen. “So do you mind explaining to me why my cub reporter is on the front page of every gossip rag from here to Metropolis as the Mystery Blonde Caught in Luthor’s Web?”
That can’t be right is immediately the tip of Kara’s tongue but it freezes there, along with the incredulous laugh threatening to burst out of her, because Snapper is shoving his phone in her face and–
“It’s not what it looks like,” she blurts out, instinctively, then winces at her own choice of words. Great save. “I was just being considerate.”
It’s true, really. She was only holding the door open for Lena as they left L-Corp (Lena was on the move the whole day, they did half of the interview in the back of her Range Rover, flitting between offices), and it only happened that Lena’s hand fell to her forearm, a completely innocent gesture, as innocent as Lena’s smile, as the way she swayed a little closer, saying thank you as she strode by. And sure, Kara may have felt mesmerized for a single, fleeting moment, suddenly so deeply flustered by the gentle weight of Lena’s hand that she almost cracked the door handle in two, but who wouldn’t? Lena Luthor just has a remarkable presence. Why are they letting paparazzi camp out at the L-Corp doorstep, anyways?
“I’ve never seen Luthor that affectionate with anyone.” Snapper eyes Kara suspiciously, his face screaming why you of all people, bumbling rookie who can barely even spell?. “I’ve never seen any of the Luthors affectionate with anyone at all.”
“Guess it’s just my natural charm, sir.” Kara flashes the most annoyingly innocent smile she can, then squares her shoulders. “Did you actually read my article?”
There’s a beat of silence, Snapper staring daggers at her. Then finally, finally, he lets out an annoyed huff.
“Of course I read it. It’s going out first thing tomorrow.” He pockets his phone, then rubs his face with a tired motion. “Make sure this doesn’t happen again.”
“You got it, boss.”
-
It happens again.
It happens again a bunch, really. (Kara at the L-Corp gala, at Lena’s table, the two of them in lively conversation, shoulders pressed together – she was telling me about L-Corp’s new green energy initiative, sir –, the fond smile and almost-teasing tone when Lena calls “yes, Miss Danvers?” at her press conference – she’s just nice! It’s not a crime! –, the candid of them on the CatCo balcony when Lena’s in house for her cover shoot, Kara gesturing excitedly and Lena leaning against the railing, hanging onto every word, a jacket two sizes too big wrapped around her shoulders – you know it gets cold out there. At least there’s no photos of her wrapping the jacket around Lena, their hands brushing together, the faint blush along the lines of Lena’s throat. That’d probably look pretty suspicious.) Snapper’s face takes on increasingly vivid shades of purplish red.
“Do we need to go over the meaning of journalistic integrity again, Danvers?”
Kara decides to take graduating from “Ponytail” as a win.
“We’re not– it’s not anything untoward,” she shoots back, arms crossed, only slightly blushing. In anger, certainly. “I’m doing my job. I grilled her on L-Corp still holding a contract with the government for anti-alien defense systems that Lex negotiated, just last week. There’s footage.”
“Yeah,” Snapper grinds his teeth so vehemently that Kara’s afraid he might crack a crown. “Footage of her hugging you in the hallway afterwards, too. What the hell were you doing?”
“She just thanked me, sir.” The vein on Snapper’s neck looks ready to burst. Kara makes a mental note to recommend meditation at a less belligerent time. “She said my question made it possible for her to make a public stance and really send a message.”
Snapper looks like he’s nearing an aneurysm.
“Hell, Danvers, that sounds even worse!”
It sounded pretty great, actually, Kara thinks, after the borderline unprofessional row they had in Lena’s office when Kara first broached the subject. It felt pretty great, too, not just Lena’s declaration, her renewed commitment to reject everything Lex and Lillian stand for, but the warmth of Lena’s pressed against her, her lips brushing against Kara’s cheek, the low murmur of “you’re such a wonderful friend” in her ear that gave her such a strange shiver. At least that much thankfully escaped the prying eyes and cameras.
“Either I don’t go near her, or CatCo continues to have the leading stories on one of National City’s most high-profile citizens.” She gives Snapper the steeliest look she can muster without letting her heat vision flare up. “And my covers are currently bringing in our biggest numbers. Sir.”
Snapper grinds his teeth again, but his shoulders sag just a touch, and Kara knows she’s won this round.
“You’re on thin ice, Danvers. Back to your desk.”
Kara complies with a grin and a thumbs up, and decides to take a break half an hour later, when Alex forwards her an article titled Bosom Buddies: Lena Luthor Out And About With CatCo Gal Pal with a subtle mix of skull, knife, and eyeroll emojis. She does save one of the photos, though, the one where Lena’s head’s thrown back in adorable, delightful laughter.
-
“Can you explain this one, Danvers?”
Snapper doesn’t look angry this time. No, he’s strangely calm, somewhat elated, even, slamming a whole bundle of newspapers down on her desk, jolting Kara out of her reverie. Half of them are National City publications, Kara vaguely notes, but there’s Metropolis and Gotham and Central City in the mix, too, as if it was the story of the century. Must be a slow news day.
“Of course, sir. I think the proper term is ‘first date’?”
To her greatest surprise, Snapper barks out a laugh, loud and gruff.
“You’re now barred from any future reporting on the Luthors or L-Corp,” he tells her, not without a touch of satisfaction. If Kara hadn’t been walking on sunshine for the past thirteen hours, twenty-eight minutes and forty-one seconds, since the first tentative press of Lena’s lips against her own, she might’ve felt a bit miffed. “Cat Grant’s setting aside a little time later in the afternoon to chew you out personally.”
Kara nods happily along. Withering tones and grim disapproval, the usual spiel, as if anything could dull that buzzing, electrifying feeling coursing through her body since last night, the weightless, feverish joy that grips her every time she thinks of Lena’s last text and everything can’t wait to see you again tonight could possibly entail.
“Yessir.”
“Congratulations, Danvers.” Snapper raps his knuckles against her desk. “Let’s spare each other the heartburn from now on.”
-
(Kara shows up with a hickey on her neck and the headlines of Lena Luthor Packs PDA With New Girlfriend the next day. Snapper refuses to look her in the eyes for the rest of the week.)

The ocean at our feet
Male Reader X Lena Luthor
Request - Can you do a MR! X lena Luthor fluff. R is Kara’s brother who came to earth with her when Krypton exploded, he also followed Kara to CatCo but became a Photographer instead of Assistant and when he met Lena became head over heels with her. Lena and R have a Lois and Clark style relationship until one day he saves her and reveals his identity to her
“I can't believe Cat left,” You said.
“I can't believe it, either. But you will like working there, just trust me. Lena will be a great boss” Kara said.
You knew that Kara was friends with Lena but you never met her. You and Kara used to live in Krypton, then went to Earth when Krypton exploded. You do wear glasses just like Kara and she is happy that you will work with her at Catco. You used to live with your sister but you moved out and she won't admit it but she does miss living with you.
You arrive at the company and she takes you to Lena’s office. Lena saw you and Kara walk into the office then she stood up, and walked toward you and Kara. She is smiling at you and you forgot how to say hi, you stare into her green eyes. Your body is feeling hot your heart is beating faster and faster. Lena said hi and she waiting for you to say hi back and tell her your name. You can't stop staring at her and you still don't say anything to her, then Kara taps your arm with her elbow.
“She asked your name,” Kara said.
“Oh-… My name is Y/N, I’m her brother” You said.
“Nice to meet you, Y/N. I know she is your sister because of her last name. Can I see your portfolio?” Lena said.
“Portfolio?” You asked.
“The big book, Y/N” Kara laughed.
“Oh!” You said.
You hand over your portfolio and Lena starts to look at the pictures carefully. You are feeling nervous that she is looking at your pictures and she doesn't say a word just yet. Lena doesn't look up just yet, but she can feel your eyes on her. Then she looks up and she looks at the camera around your neck. She thinks you are cute and she stares into your eyes for a few seconds.
“Y/n, you are very talented. I like how you capture the light and the moment in each picture. You got the job, as the new photographer” Lena smiled.
“Wow, thanks Ms Luthor,” You said.
You like how she says your name.
“Just call me Lena,” Lena said.
You nod then Kara gives you a hug and you can't stop smiling.
“Kara, I want you to work on an article with William Dey. It's about the new library opening in a neighborhood and they are giving away food for the families. And Y/N, you will come with me” Lena said.
“I will get on it” Kara smiled.
Kara left and you are feeling nervous again.
“Why me?” You asked.
“It's for work obviously, Y/N. Get your camera ready and let's go” Lena said.
You and Lena leave together and you sit next to her in the car. You smell her perfume and you like the scent. You never felt nervous around women before.
“We are going to a hospital for sick children. I need you to take pictures of them and everyone else and the hospital. We will need donations and posting pictures online will benefit the hospital” Lena said.
“I can do that. It's nice that you are helping them” You said.
“People deserve healthcare no matter what their financial status is,” Lena said.
“I understand,” You said.
You and Lena arrive at the hospital and you get the camera ready. You start to take pictures of the press conference and the guests. Lena gets on stage and you start to take pictures of her. Later, Lena starts to spend time with the sick kids and you start to take pictures of her with them. You start to like her even more because of how she likes to help people in need.
“Y/N, show me the pictures,” Lena said.
“Sure,” You said.
You start to show her the pictures and you watch her.
“Wow, Y/N each picture came out great and you didn't even edit the pictures yet,” Lena said.
“You are beautiful,” You said.
“Thank you, but you shouldn't say that to your boss,” Lena said.
“I’m sorry. I just blur out…”
“Y/N, calm down I’m not firing you,” Lena said.
“Sorry,” You said shyly.
“It’s alright. Get back to work” Lena said
“Yeah,” You said.
You continue to work and Lena starts to talk to the press again. Much later, you and Lena went back to the office. You start to edit the pictures then you stare at the screen and you stare at Lena’s eyes.
———
Lena would sometimes stare at you when you were not looking. She thinks you are cute but she doesn't want to cross the line between boss and employee. On the TV, everyone sees there is an explosion at a building and the fire is out of control. You and Kara stare at each other and then nod, you two sneak away and head to the elevator.
“Where are you two going?” Lena asked.
“Oh, umm we are going to cover the story,” You said quickly
You and your sister rushed to the elevator and you closed the door. You and Kara ran towards the alley and quickly changed. You and Kars fly toward the building on fire. Clark arrived and you two are happy to see him.
“Still no cape, Y/N?” Clark asked.
“Still trying to find my own style,” You said.
“I keep telling him, capes are cool but he is just being stubborn” Kara teased.
You start to work together with them saving people and putting out the fire. You saved a firefighter’s life, she almost fell inside the building when the ceiling fell and blocked the exit. Everyone started to cheer for you, Kara, and Clark.
Much later, you returned to the office and Lena asked questions about where you went. You lied about asking people about the fire and she did believe you. Now, she wants the article before morning then you texted Kara and told her what happened. She did help you, she wrote the article then you went back to take pictures of the building.
✫ ✯ ✬ ✫
You are working late and you just finished. Before going home, you see Lena in her office and you go into her office.
“Is everything okay?” You asked.
“I thought you went home,” Lena said.
“I thought the same for you. But i was editing some pictures. You seem sad, do you want to talk about it?” You said.
“I don't want to bother you and I’m sure your girlfriend is waiting for you at home,” Lena said.
“I don't have a girlfriend. But you can talk to me, I’m a good listener. Is it about your brother Lex?” You said.
You sit down next to her on the couch. You start to listen to her talk about her family drama and she likes that you are listening to her. She is surprised that you are single. You did change the conversation to make her laugh and she did laugh at your funny stories.
There would be times that you would stay late at work, to edit pictures. Lena would also stay late and work long hours and she would skip lunch.
“You didn't have to buy lunch for me, I’m your boss,” Lena said.
“I don't forget you are my boss. It’s passed eleven and it's nighttime and you skipped lunch. You are my boss from morning until eight at night, so right now just think of it as two friends having a late dinner together” You said.
Lena couldn't help to smile because of your response.
“What kind of pizza is it?” Lena asked.
“I didn't know what you liked so I picked pepperoni” You smiled.
“I do like pepperoni on my pizza. Okay, I will join you for dinner” Lena smiled.
You smiled and put the food on the table. She sits next to you, then you and Lena start to ask questions about each other. She is starting to have feelings for you but won't tell you tonight. After a while of eating and talking, you take her home.
“Thank you for taking me home,” Lena said.
“Anytime. I couldn't let you go home alone at this time, Lena” You said.
She briefly held your hand.
“Thank you and get home safe,” Lena said.
You are in shock that she is holding your hand.
“Bye,” You smiled.
You watched Lena go inside her building then you went home.
————
Before heading to work, you noticed Lena following Morgan Edge. You start to follow Lena but she doesn't notice you just yet. You take pictures of Morgan Edge talking to Benjamin Lockwood. You have super hearing and you hear them talking Supergirl and your alter ego. Lena starts to walk away then she bumps into you, and you almost drop your camera.
“Y/N what are you doing here?” Lena asked.
“I can ask the same for you. I saw you following him then i started to take pictures. Why are you following him?” You said.
“We can't talk here, let's go,” Lena said.
You went to the office with Lena. She starts to tell you why she is following him.
“He is poisoning the water in the poor neighborhoods and lying about me. I wanted to catch him in the act so people can see it's him, not me” Lena said.
“Oh. We will figure out how to catch him, don't worry about it you can trust me” You said.
“I do trust you that you won't tell anyone,” Lena said.
“I won’t tell anyone,” You said.
“Okay. Get to work” Lena said.
You leave her office then you sit at your desk. You are thinking hard about how to get him to confess or catch him in the act. But you don't tell your sister about it and she has been very busy.
The next night, you started to follow Benjamin and Morgan. You caught them spilling toxic waste into the pipes and you started to take pictures of them. Then someone brings out Lena tied up and you take a picture. Now, you change clothes and they are about to hurt her. But you used speed to stop Benjamin from hurting her.
“You won't hurt anyone else,” You said.
“Where did you come from?” Benjamin asked.
You don't say anything and you start to fight Morgan and Benjamin. You used a metal pipe to tie them up but they are passed out. You easily punched them and they passed out.
“Lena, are you okay?” You asked.
The cops arrived and you ripped the zip tie around her wrists. You tell them what happened and they believe you and Lena. You pick up Lena and fly her to the office.
“Thank you, Y/N,” Lena said.
“What?” You asked.
“I know it's you. Because of your camera and the last letters on your camera,” Lena said.
You look at your camera, you forgot to take it off. You didn't think about it because you didn't want her to get hurt even if you were two seconds late.
“I was following them to get proof then I saw you. I didn't want them to hurt you and I forgot to take off my camera” You said.
“I thought you would deny it,” Lena said.
“I didn't want to lie to you, Lena,” You said.
“Thank you for not lying to me,” Lena said.
Lena slowly leans in and you feel her lips on your lips. She starts to kiss you and you start to kiss her back and her lipstick gets on your lips.
———-
You and Lena started dating in secret. But you two keep it professional at work and she doesn't give you special treatment. Tonight, you went to Lena’s condo to spend time with her. You and Lena are making tacos and she is having fun making tacos with you.
“I never made tacos before” Lena smiled.
She drinks her wine.
“Do you like making it?” You asked.
“With you, Yes I like making it” Lena smiled.
She gives you a peck on the lips. After dinner, you and Lena cuddle on the couch to watch a scary movie. She hides her face on your chest and you have your arm around her. Again, she hid her face in your chest, and she held on to your shirt.
“We don't have to finish the movie, I will watch it on my own I want to see how it ends,” You said.
You stopped the movie and she slightly moved away.
“I didn't expect the movie to be scary,” Lena said.
“You didn't have to yes to watch a scary movie. We could have watched a chick-flick movie” You said.
“I do like other genres of movies not just chick flicks, Y/N” Lena said.
“I know, i was just teasing. We could play a game? Have any board games or cards?” You said.
“I have a game called Jenga, it belongs to your sister and she forgot to take it home. We could play that game” Lena smiled.
“Let’s play” You smiled.
She takes out the game and you start to set it up. You and Lena became competitive and she doesn't stop smiling at you. Lena is happy that doesn't have to change who she is with you and you accept everything about her. Lena won the first round then you and Lena started to play again.
A bit later, she asked you to stay the night. You cuddle with her in bed while talking, and you and Lena start to kiss each other. She has her leg on top of you and you two are smiling at each other. Your hand is under her shirt and she has her hand on your cheek and she kisses you again.

It’s starting to get cold in National City because it's December. You and Lena are in a serious relationship and taking it slow. You are happy that you are able to tell her stories about when you used to live on Krypton, she does enjoy the stories.
“You didn't celebrate Christmas on Krypton?” Lena asked.
“No. We didn't have Earth holidays on my planet. When I got to Earth, Eliza introduced us to Earth holidays and I liked Halloween, Christmas, and summer because I got to play with fireworks. Do you have Christmas traditions?” You said.
“No. Mother and Lex are not the types to celebrate holidays to spend time with family. Mother was busy with work and Lex well… he just didn't have much time with me besides playing chess. I was shipped to boarding school and spent the holidays alone” Lena said.
“Oh, well that wasn't fun to spend the holidays alone,” You said.
“I got used to it,” Lena said.
You used your strength to move the tree where she wanted it. Then you and Lena start to decorate the tree together and she is happy that she is with you on the holidays. After decorating the tree, you start to put Christmas decorations on the wall while she puts decorations on the shelves of the fireplace. Then you and Lena started to bake Christmas cookies together.
You are spending more nights at Lena’s condo. She did make space for your clothes and items in the closet and bathroom. She takes a shower and then puts on your hoodie to be warm. She is lying on her side and you are on your side behind her, and you have your arm around her and her fingers go between your fingers.
The next day, you and Lena leave the city for the weekend. She booked a hotel in a small town just to be alone. It started to snow, you decided to convince your girlfriend to build a snowman. You tried to roll a big snowball, but you missed-placed your foot, and you fell on top of the snowball.
“Not funny, Lena,” You said.
“It is funny, that's why I'm laughing” Lena giggled.
She does help you stand up. Then she started to wipe the snow off you then she kissed you on the lips.
“Better?” Lena smiled.
“No” You smiled.
“Let me try again,” Lena said.
She grabbed your scarf and she started to kiss you.
A bit later, after playing in the snow, you and Lena went to a skating rink, she held your hand while skating with you.
“I haven't done this in many years,” Lena said.
“Last time I did it, I was a teenager,” You said.
You stopped.
“What’s wrong?” Lena asked.
“Someone is in trouble, they are yelling for help,” You said.
“Go, I will wait,” Lena said.
“Grab dinner and wait for me at the hotel,” You said.
You kiss her on the lips before she says something, and you quickly leave. You changed into your suit and you went to save a family from almost driving off the cliff. Then someone needed help, their car got stuck on the train tracks and you stayed out for a while saving people. Lena did buy dinner and she headed back to the hotel.
————
Lena planned a toy charity event, people are donating toys and other items to the kids in the hospital. You are taking pictures and you have a Santa hat on your head and a Christmas vest that Lena bought for you. Kara is at the event and sees you sneak away but at first, she doesn't you are following Lena. Kara got curious and started to follow you toward the hallway which was isolated, then she gasped.
“You kissed Lena!” Kara said too loud.
Some of Lena’s lipstick is on your lips.
“Were you following me?” You asked.
“Don’t change the subject. Wait, are you two dating?” Kara said.
“Yes, I’m dating your brother and no one else knows about us,” Lena said.
“This is great. I’m in shock but I’m so happy for you two. Why you didn't tell me?” Kara said.
“I was going to tell you,” You said.
“You can't tell anyone, we have to be professional,” Lena said.
“I won't tell anyone. But they need you to make a speech, go now”’ Kara said.
Lena left to make a speech and you wiped your lips.
“We should head back,” You said.
“You are in love with Lena” Kara teased
“What-… no I’m not in love” You lied.
“Yes, you are. So cute you try to deny it but I know you are in love” Kara giggled.
“I haven't told her yet that I’m in love with her. And she is about my powers but I didn't tell her that you have powers also, but I think she knows about it” You said.
“She is smart, but I think I should tell her. But I’m happy for you, I thought after what happened with your last ex you stopped looking for love” Kara said.
“Lena is different and she isn't just anyone. I told her not to give me special treatment at work but she did buy this watch for me as an early Christmas gift” You said.
You show your sister the watch and she gasped.
“I saw this watch online it cost over ten thousand dollars” Kara gasped.
“I didn't ask for it, she just surprised me with it,” You said.
“You should invite her to meet Eliza for Christmas” Kara smiled.
“Good idea. Mom will like her” You said.
You call Eliza ‘mom’ and Kara just calls her by her first name. You and Kara head back and you start to take pictures of everyone and the gifts for the kids and their families. Much later, you go to Lena’s condo and you invite her to meet Eliza for Christmas and she agrees to go.
“Do you think she will accept our relationship?” Lena asked.
You wrap your arms around her waist and she puts her arms around your shoulders.
“Of course, she will accept you and our relationship. You are beautiful, smart, funny, and caring. I can go on about why she will like you” You smiled.
She kissed you on the lips.
“And you are handsome, funny, a bit nerdy, and smart” Lena smiled.
You kiss her and she doesn't stop smiling.

Musician Age Gap AU Pt 4
Dropping Esme off at home turns into more than just a simple kiss and ride. She parks and walks Esme to the front door. The tears had petered out halfway home, but it had left Esme shaky and exhausted. And when Alex opens the door to welcome them home, she can barely get out a "how was it?" before Esme bursts into fresh tears and darts up the stairs to her bedroom.
Alex watches her daughter go, then turns back to Kara with an accusatory look. Kara sighs. "It's a long story."
"I'll put the kettle on."
Over tea, Kara gives her sister the rundown of the evening-- omitting certain bits of her own exhanges with Lena. By the end, Alex is stunned, but heartbroken for her daughter.
"The highest of highs, and lowest of lows," Alex moans. "I was already going to call her out of school tomorrow, but now I really need to."
Kara nods. "I hope she'll remember the night more for what actually happened than the fact she lost the pictures of it. She really did have a good time, til she realized."
"What a night," Alex sighs. "Well, thank you for stepping in. I know she appreciated the time with you, in any case."
"Yeah," Kara nods. "Me too."
"You should come over more. She's not the only one who misses you."
"Alex..."
"You're not the only busy, I get that, but it sucks being the only one to reach out."
Kara closes her eyes. They've had variations of this conversation before, but it didn't make it any easier to hear. It's been busy lately, the last few years. And she knows she's missing out on key times with Esme, but... she's never been very good at juggling.
"I know." Then, "I should go. I'll call the venue in the morning, see if maybe one of the cleaning crew finds the phone and turns it in to lost and found or something."
All Alex can do is nod. "Thanks."
All thoughts of the ticket in her pocket disappears until the next day. Her calls to the arena have been fruitless-- no one had found anything, and no amount of cajoling or bribery could make them devote manpower to look for it. So when she's emptying her pockets to run a load of laundry, she's so frustrated she's willing to chuck it into the sun.
Until she sees a loop of a swoopy letter written on it, half hidden by a folded crease. Puzzled, Kara smooths it out and flips it over-- and finds a phone number written across its face in silver sharpie.
Stunned, Kara stares at the offending digits.
"What the fuck?"
---
It's probably her manager, Kara reasons. Or her assistant, at the very least. But when she punches the number into her phone, driven by the echo of her promise to Esme in her ears, she instantly recognizes the voice that answers.
"Hello?"
Kara's mouth goes dry. "Uhhhhhh.... hi? Shit. I mean--"
"I'm glad you called," Lena interrupts smoothly. "I have a phone here that's sorely missing its owner."
"Oh thank god," Kara releases with a heavy sigh. "Thank you."
"Sorry we weren't able to catch you before you left. I didn't see it until late."
"Esme was heartbroken," Kara tells her, unnecessarily. "You've saved a life."
"Her life? Or yours?" There's a tease in Lena's voice.
Kara grins. "Both. Definitely both."
A chuckle rumbles across the line. "Well, how can we get this to you?"
"Oh, if you could ship it..."
"No need," Lena says simply. "We're in town for another day or so. Is there a place we can deliver it?"
Kara blinks, surprised. "Um, sure. I'll be at my office in an hour."
"Perfect."
Kara rattles off the address to her, then books it to the office, determined not to miss the delivery. She stays on edge for the first hour, but soon finds herself distracted by her work-- until her assistant knocks tentatively on her door before poking her head in.
One look at Eve's baffled and somewhat dazed expression sends a bolt of electricity down Kara's spine.
"Miss Danvers? Um... there's someone here to see you. She-- she says its a personal delivery?"
Kara is already on her feet. "I'll take care of it. Thank you, Eve."
"It's--"
"I know," Kara assures her.
"You... know her?"
Kara sighs. "It's complicated."
She makes her way to the lobby, finding Lena Luthor leaning casually against the front desk, completely unbothered by the gazes peeking at her from between frosted sections of the glass walls.
"If you'd have told me you planned to bring it yourself, I would've given you a different address," Kara says drolly. Lena looks up at her with a puckish grin. "You're about to give the entire office an aneurysm."
"Sorry, not sorry." Entirely unapologetic, Lena straightens, pushing softly away from the desk to face Kara directly.
Kara folds her arms across her chest, unable to help the smile spreading across her own features. Lena lifts an eyebrow, retrieving Esme's phone from her back pocket to waggle it teasingly.
"Thank you...." Kara reaches for it, only for Lena to tilt it out of reach. Kara rolls her eyes. "What?"
"I'm... gonna be honest," Lena drags out, smirking. "I didn't come here with truly altruistic purposes."
Kara resettles her weight, cocking one hip. "This is becoming a pattern with you, Miss Luthor."
"I'm only human, you know." She taps Esme's phone on her chin. "And I'm not above taking a teenager's phone hostage, if it gets me a coffee with a gorgeous woman."
Bold. Entirely *too* bold. But Kara can't quite bring herself to mind.
"You have me at a disadvantage," she returns. "I really need that phone."
"Then a coffee with a charming lady seems to be in your very near future."
Kara rolls her eyes. "Let me grab my purse."
Lena waits patiently, and Kara doesn't bother pausing to explain a damn thing to anyone. It's none of their business, and right now she's a woman on a mission.
To get her goddaughter's phone.
And absolutely nothing else.

Embers
I’m not going to fuck Supergirl, she promised herself.
There were two things Lena was very certain of in life: Kara was straight as a board, and Supergirl wanted Lena just as badly as Lena wanted her. The tension with the latter seemed to crackle with every late night conversation in her office, with every last minute save.
But it didn’t matter. One good lay wasn’t worth risking her friendship with Kara Danvers. If things went south with Supergirl, and Kara’s friendship with the kryptonian outranked her friendship with Lena…
Well, Lena wasn’t going to find out.
---
I’m not going to fuck Supergirl.
She didn’t want to, not anymore. Not with the kryptonian’s angry eyes trained on her, the completely unearned distrust. I did nothing wrong by making kryptonite.
Lena glared back, trying to distract herself from the tension between her legs. “This may come as a shock to you,” she snarled back, ignoring the electric charge between, “But I don’t think about you while I’m doing it.”
Okay. So it was a freudian slip.
But she wasn’t going to fuck Supergirl.
---
So she… started to develop feelings for the super.
The feelings still didn’t come close to the flame she held for Kara Danvers. The pointless, fruitless flame. What she wanted with the shy reporter was far more than one night, whereas her interest in Supergirl remained purely physical.
But as Supergirl sorted through Lex’s notebooks in the prison, Lena found that there was sympathy mixed with the tension. She knew what it was like to be falsely accused, to be framed for a crime she didn’t commit - and she felt the guilt of her role too, in helping Lex.
But still, the kryptonian looked at her with familiar and lonely eyes. God, it would be so easy…
If she could just forget Kara, meet her needs without strings attached, have a meaningless night with the reporter’s high-powered friend… But it wouldn’t be right, and it still wasn’t worth the risk. I’m not going to fuck Supergirl.
---
Fuck Supergirl.
Hatred buzzed in her veins after her brother’s death, and all she wanted to do was tell the blonde superpowered reporter to go fuck herself.
It was odd, Lena thought. With Kara so sad and weeping at the Pulitzer, Lena knew she had the kryptonian wrapped around her finger. How far would she go?, Lena mulled. If there was no longer a friendship to protect, what did it matter if Lena had Kara soothe her more primal needs?
In the early days, her fantasies had been about the shy and bashful reporter, or the demanding kryptonian. And after finding out Kara’s true identity, her fantasies became more base - hatefucks and betrayals. Any way to release some of the tension before sleep, to satisfy the burning temptation.
But she suspected it would destroy her. I’m not going to fuck Supergirl.
---
Fuck, Kara…
Lena was panicked as she rushed across the city, realizing the trap she had fallen into with Lex, worrying that something would happen - or had happened - to Kara. This is my fault, my fault, she thought, knocking on Kara’s door.
Her breath caught as the blonde answered. Relief that Kara was alive, shame that Kara and the others were in danger because of her. Anything else was pushed far out of her mind.
Far too quickly, Kara was sent to the phantom zone. Lena barely slept, and fantasized about nothing.
---
Then there were the happy tears. Standing in the Tower, Lena couldn’t believe Kara had returned to her - the world felt surreal as she felt Kara’s arms wrap around her.
It wasn’t long after that Kara pressed her lips against Lena’s, and Lena discovered that the kryptonian had many fantasies of her own. Whereas once she had thought Kara to be shy, and Supergirl to be controlling, Lena was delighted to find her insatiably creative.
I’m not going to fuck Supergirl, she had once promised herself.
Some promises were meant to be broken.
