You were stunned as you opened the door to your apartment. You could see Kara sitting at the table. She looked like she had lost a fight with a mixer.

You couldn't really see the kitchen, but of what you could see it was a complete mess.

You looked back at Kara, a nervous smile on her face. In front of her sat a plate of Caramel apples. They were a mess, but they looked edible. "Kara, my love... what happened to our kitchen?" You asked as you joined her at the table.

"W-Well, it's a really long story. Are you sure you want to hear it?" Kara asked, laughing nervously. At least you weren't angry? Kara was considering that a win.

"Please." You said, crossing your arms.

"Well, you see, I saw this recipe on TV for Caramel Apples! I figured with the season and everything it would be a nice surprise that we could share together! So I found a recipe online and tried really hard, but I used my hear vision to melt the caramel, and I almost crushed the apples and- I'm really sorry." Kara rambled, looking remorseful.

She expected you to yell, to do anything to express anger or disappointment.

Instead, you laughed. You grabbed an apple and went to take a bite. It was good. Yeah it was messy, but Kara had tried. And the fruit of her labors were edible and good.

"I'll help you clean up the kitchen, after we finish the food. Deal?" You asked.

Kara Smiled and grabbed her own apple, "Deal!"

"I cannot believe you told my wife your date was with *Lena Luthor*," Alex whispers mid-yell, "before you told me!"

"Would it have changed your recommendation?"

At that, Kara hears Alex pause to consider.

"No," comes the final response. Then, "Did it work?"

Kara flushes-- she'd certainly gotten the reaction she'd been looking for. She just isn't sure she wants her sister to know that they hadn't fully resolved that desire.

"Well enough," Kara returns, settling on an incomplete truth. She'd explain the rest later... eventually.

A muttered curse issues over the line. "Jesus. How did this even happen? Wait-- what happens now? Esme said her next show is in, like... 16 hours, in Denver."

Kara smiles into the phone. "We stay in touch."

She's already received a picture via text, showing Lena with a tongue-out wink and a playful peace sign. Another photo had revealed a sticky bun, with a note that Lena had gotten Jess to swing by Noonan's on the way to the airport.

Though the sight of the sticky bun had made her hungry, the selfie made her pause to absorb the image. From the relaxed tousle of Lena's wavy hair, to the ray-bans hooked on the collar of her shirt, and the luxury of the private plane lurking around the edges.... she wonders if Lena realizes just how far she's letting Kara in, allowing her to see Lena in so personal a setting.

Kara's response had been simple. "Fly safe."

It had earned her a floating heart emoji and a promise to touch base upon landing.

"That's it?" Alex asks, pulling Kara back to the present.

Kara huffs a laugh. "What did you expect? She wasn't going to cancel half a national tour for personal time with someone she only met two days ago."

"Well why not? You're worth it."

"You're only saying that because you're my sister," Kara counters. "Besides, I don't want that for her."

Seeing Lena on stage had proven it's something the woman enjoyed. She thrived on the experience of it, and so did the thousands of fans who came to see her.

Which is why, a few hours after Lena's first Denver show would have concluded, Kara is surprised to receive a call from Lena. They'd facetimed when she'd landed, so the lack of video is her first clue that something isn't right.

"Hey," Kara greets, pressing the phone to her ear as she wipes sleep from her eyes. She'd meant to stay awake to check in herself, but not even a book had been able to keep her from dozing off.

"Hey."

Lena's voice is somber. It's such a difference that a wave of concern wakes Kara the rest of the way.

"What's wrong?" she asks.

There's a short pause before Lena responds. "Nothing."

"How was the show?"

"Fine. I'm sorry, I shouldn't be calling so late. I just... I wanted to hear your voice." Lena pauses again. "Is that weird?"

"No." Kara listens closely to the quiet that follows, as though it might give her some insight into what was happening on the other end of the line. "Lena..."

"Could you... talk to me?"

"About what?"

"Anything. Just... so I can listen."

Kara's brow furrows. She fights the impulse to dig deeper, to push to find the why. She doesn't need to know. Lena has asked for what she needs-- and it's something Kara is able and willing to give.

"Did I ever tell you that I didn't always live in National City?"

Lena hums a negative, prompting Kara to continue.

"I'm actually from a town up the coast. Midvale. I miss it sometimes. The stars mostly. In high school, I had friend named Kenny, and we would take his telescope to the old barn, and we would chart the skies together..."

Kara goes on, relating many and more of the troubles she and Kenny had gotten up to in those days. She was careful to steer clear of his murder, and the bullying they'd both experienced. Lena needed distraction, not more heartache.

As she speaks, Lena hums occasionally, sometimes even giving a chuckle. When the sounds of her following along peters out, Kara pauses to listen if Lena notices the stop. When no reaction comes, Kara smiles to herself.

"Lena?" she asks softly. "Still there?"

No answer comes, but when Kara increases the volume on her phone, she can hear the steady inhale and exhale of sleep. Kara listens for a few heartbeats more.

"Sweet dreams, Lena."

SEVENTEEN: Exactly what being seventeen felt like to me. He has absolutely beautiful poetry on age, Seventeen is the first of those in the collection. I’ve loved measuring my growth by how I relate to these poems. You can download the entire collection for free, just check out his account @sweatermuppet, I’m sure he has a link somewhere (or drop him an ask)! One of my favourite collections, it really embodies the feeling of being young, so the rest of the poems might also be of interest to you. I find myself rereading them all of the time. Love your work, Silas! Can’t wait for more poetry

BONJOUR TRISTESSE: I don’t remember the protagonist’s age exactly, but the author was seventeen when she wrote it. Very breezy, very summery, contains the whole spectrum of teenage emotions, from raging anger to audacious freedom. The protagonist is both astute and very childish. This book is so obviously written by a teenager, and I mean this as the highest compliment. You don’t get adults writing about being seventeen like that. She is seventeen. Seventeen is this story’s essence. I haven’t seen the movie, but it’s on my watchlist. Heard it’s good though!

TEENAGERS ARE NOT EXEMT FROM POETRY: I read this the other day and think it would have been very affirming for teenage me, who felt insecure about reading and writing poetry. Some lines really stuck with me and I think the writer’s youthful voice captures the solace teenagers might find in poetry very well. There is a freshness to that discovery. I remember reading Ginsberg for the first time and life feeling ten times wider even though my English was not broad enough for me to understand his work in its entirety. Discovering art at that age is a privilege, I believe most people will struggle to feel the same awe and wonder in later years. The author of this prose piece mentions many different poems that might interest you!

BRUTES: Read it last year and honestly found it kind of disappointing. Very interesting style, though, as most (all?) of it is written from the perspective of a group of teenage girls, using ‘we’ and ‘us’ instead of ‘I’ and ‘me’. I think I would have liked it a thousand times more, had I read it earlier in life. Fantastic book cover

THE VIRGIN SUICIDES: Very obviously written by a man, but nevertheless an interesting study of teenage love and obsession (there’s an excellent movie adaptation by Sophia Coppola!)

THE ICE PALACE: If I remember correctly, the protagonists are younger than seventeen, but it’s a very moving story about how young people grieve. Norwegian author, which I found very interesting, as I haven’t read a lot of Scandinavian literature

TEENAGE WASTELAND: Not for me, this one! But you might have different taste. After reading some reviews, it seems like people either hate or love this short story

NORMAL PEOPLE: I am not a huge Sally Rooney fan, but I do understand why people adore her so much. I thought Conversations With Friends was a better book, but that’s partly because I found it more relatable. Normal People is a very intelligent story on young love, class differences and the reality of many relationships. The opposite of a ‘happily ever after’ book, left me feeling unresolved and unsatisfied, as I believe it intended

MY DARK VANESSA: I’m not sure if recommending this too a teenager is wise, but it is certainly a very good book. Heavy stuff, though. Deals with emotional manipulation and violence directed at a teenaged girl in form of a predatory relationship. Rarely read something that made me feel so uneasy by manipulating me as the reader. I read it as a teen and it impressed me very much! Be safe, please. If you are easily disturbed, check any content warnings!

WE WERE LIARS: Something suspenseful that will suck you in, a summer-y and kind of light book. Definitely entertainment literature, but there’s nothing wrong with that. Probably won’t change your life, but also won’t bore you. Cool friendship dynamics between teenagers!

Ironic like literally she is risking lives, Clark is right . Like wtf letting you kill yourself to prove a point is beyond worse

I can remember at least one instance where Lois Lane threw herself into danger to get Superman's attention. This is nothing new, but it's still kinda iffy, when you think about it deeper.

But this whole situation reminds me of Sophie Moore in Batwoman learning that Kate Kane was the titular charcter and being mad that Julia Pennyworth knew about it and didn't tell her (as if it was Julia's secret to tell). The same lack of understanding that not revealing a secret is not always the same as lying. Also Sophie too, at some point, worked against Batwoman and Kate just revealing her identity to her could pose some risks.

Now let's compare and contrast how Iris West in S1 of The Flash reacted to the knowledge that Barry and her father, Joe, were keeping the identity of The Flash from her. Iris is actually quite reasonable with her anger, especially because Joe's main argument to keep her in the dark was that they were "protecting her" and Iris points out that if she knew who Flash was and what's going on, she would "have helped (...) put the bad guys away, instead of being in the way". For the most of The Flash S1, Iris was supportive of the Flash, even defending him from detractors (only after Flash vs. Arrow she turned against him and it didn't last for long), and Barry himself didn't tell her anything only because of Joe's insistance.

To this day I think that Iris West's reaction is one of the best scenes in Arrowverse as a whole, because it challanges the "lying to protect her" notion as something that doesn't work in the long run.

At the same time for a long time I was of opinion that Kara Denvers should tell Lena Luthor that she's Supergirl, if only because they were friends; but then the writers threw a granade into the relations between Kara and Lena and just telling Lena the truth seemed like it should be done when these relations would be mended. And then Lena learned about Kara's secret in the worst possible way - from Lex - and for the next season she was vengeful as fuck.

There are also external issues, like how the superhero is perceived by the populace (see: Arrow and Daredevil).

Anyway, you're totally right that Clark is right (sic!), but I think that there are two main problems that arise in this kind of situations:

The hero still lies to their friends and family to cover their secret (like that time with Clark saying he cut himself) and that can be disrespectful and kinda iffy in the long run.

Whenever they reveal their secret identity or not, it always comes down to trust. If someone learns about their loved one's secret identity, one of the first things they will think about is whenever their loved one trusted them to reveal the secret on their own or if that someone had to be told by the third party or figure it on their own.

What I'm trying to say is this: Lois feels disrespected and hurt by Clark keeping such a secret from her (something that many people can relate to on some level), but at the same time Clark points out that many of her actions didn't prove to him that she can be trusted with such a secret. And Clark himself who is figuring his identity on his own may not be ready to tell about it to anyone but his parents.

So I couldn’t help myself… this been sitting in my head since June and I thought to turn it into fanfiction but I don’t think I have it in me to do it right now. So I decided to post this here. Don’t hate me. I just really wish in was more acknowledged in the show the way Lena hurt Kara when she pretended to be her friend.

“You’ve hurt me in every way imaginable”, Kara says her voice shaky. “I know how hurt you were throughout your life, how many people had betrayed you and how you thought that I was different. And I just can’t believe that after everything we’ve been through together you just carded me out like any other person who wronged you. You didn’t listen to me, you didn’t come to me to confront me. Instead you pretended to be my friend and used me for your own gain. I may have been a hypocrite and used my two personalities to be around you but I’ve never used you. And you just found out I lied to you and believed everything that Lex said. If I was your friend, if I was a person you cared so much for, why didn’t you come to me? Why did you decide that the only one way to go forward is to betray me and hurt me like you thought that I betrayed you?”

“I was in pain, Kara! I’ve been hurt so many times it’s like it’s like it’s my automatic response to the pain! Because I can’t deal with it anymore! I thought that every good thing that was between us was a lie! That you’ve been manipulating me from the start!” Lena cried out. Her trying to explain to Kara her feelings was only hurting Kara more.

“ Then why didn’t you confront me? You say that my betrayal hurt you so much but you have to care about me in the first place to be hurt this much.”

“I…”

“You don’t have a monopoly on pain, Lena”, the blonde wasn’t even trying to hold her tears in anymore. “You didn’t even think to try and piece back all the parts you know about Supergirl and Kara Denvers. I’ve been in pain so many times. I’ve also been betrayed by those closest to me. I’ve been in pain since my whole world exploded right before my eyes. I’ve been in pain when my cousin, the person I was sent to protect and care for, just discarded me like I was nothing! I was betrayed when my sister worked for the organization that deals with aliens and never told me! She shot me down with kryptonite the first time I became Supergirl. My own sister killed my aunt! And you’d think that the only person I could be me without the weight of the world on my shoulders around, who cared about me just for me, would give me the benefit of the doubt. But I guess I was wrong just like any other time before.”

Kasuna "The Demon" Hatake had been able to deal with Superman and hold him off time and time again, having his own enhanced strength and speed, but at this time he was done. Kasuna knew he wanted to take care of him once and for all. And he knew one of the biggest ways to get to him, the same girl he was luring into a trap and going to break; A one Kara Denvers, Supergirl.

Kara flew where the strange signal was coming from, deciding to investigate on her own. It wasn't until she landed that she realized what was wrong. Her body started to grow weak and hot when she spotted it. A special type of Kryptonite that not only rendered her weak, but made her incredibly horny as well.
