Red triangle slug!
Triboniophorus graeffei
“These unique-looking slugs get their name from the tiny red triangle usually contrasted against a creamy white background that decorates their bodies. However, sometimes, the red-triangle slug sports a yellow, orange, red or pale green coat.
These slugs include the giant pink-to-red slugs of Mount Kaputar and live in lush, wet forests. The Mt Kaputar slugs are one of number of unique snail species marooned 1500m above sea level on an extinct volcano near the township of Narrabri.
Many red triangle slugs can also be found in urban areas. Their slimy, circular trails have been known to decorate fences and spotted gums. Unlike pest species that feast on a homeowner’s beloved veggie garden, the red-triangle slug prefers microscopic algae and fungus”

yippee!! okay, here goes!
rain world is my current game brainrot and i am Obsessed i keep playing it!! it's an absolutely gorgeous game that heavily focuses on what it's like to be near the very bottom of the food chain in a world where rain is so heavy it kills you
you play as a slugcat and with the relatively new downpour dlc you have 8 in total!! the story keeps fascinating me each time i delve into it
the slugcats are Survivor, Monk, Hunter, Spearmaster, Artificer, Gourmand, Rivulet and Saint! my favorite at the moment has to be Rivulet because of their mobility
more coming up!
1/?, 🧀 anon
SLUGS!!!!
I love slugs. We have some really cool native slugs here. My favourite is the red triangle slug, Triboniophorus graeffei, from the east coast of Australia and especially Mount Kaputar, a now-extinct volano, where it has a tendency to emerge after heavy rainfall. It can measure up to 15cm (~5.9in) which makes it Australia's largest slug!
A close relative is the amazingly pink Mount Kaputar pink slug, an endangered species only found on Mount Kaputar in New South Wales. It's in the same genus as Triboniophorus graeffei but is so rare that it hasn't even been given a scientific name yet! Unfortunately an estimated 90% of their population was eradicated in the 2019 bushfires that ravaged Mount Kaputar and it's not certain if the species has enough individuals to survive.
17 million years ago Mount Kaputar was a volcano what erupted and created a section of the now-extinct volcano that's locked at a very high elevation. When the surrounded rainforest was destroyed by natural climate change, these slugs were left isolated on the corpse of the volcano. They're not the only species relegated to Mount Kaputar but I think they're definitely the coolest gastropod there!

HEWWO. top five bugs you’d want to chew on (bc you’re a bug eater)
thank you dearest brother for this entirely hypothetical question seeing as though i do not eat bugs
that said should i be persuaded to under some sort of dire circumstances, these are the bugs i would want to eat:
limacodid slug caterpillar
[ID: a very spherical and featureless bug sitting on a leaf that is a slightly translucent green color, making it like like a watermelon gummy candy.]
2. kaputar slug
[ID: a large, bright pink slug crawling down a tree that has a slight crease down the middle of its back and branching off of that down the sides, making it look like a piece of raw meat or fish]
3. calleta silkmoth caterpillar
[ID: a fat caterpillar with a mainly light green body, with parallel rows of dots going down its body. the dots go from bright orange, to a ring of black, to bright blue, to black spikes. the caterpillar is on a rock]
4. rhinocerous beetle
[ID: a large, black and brown beetle on a branch. the beetle is thick and strong looking, and has two large horns, one on the top of its head, and another between its eyes]
5. picasso bug
[ID: a stinkbug on a plant stem. the stinkbu has an off white base color, with an eclectic pattern of teal, orange, and black that look like geometric, abstract art]
#thank you for this ENTIRELY HYPOTHETICAL question#bc i dont eat bugs and never have#bug cw#bugs cw#insects

CREATURE DAY
Here I am on Tuesday morning and that means it is creature day and today it is the Mount Kaputar Slug heard of it, I haven’t. These bright pink slugs are about 20cm long which for some it the distance between their wrist and elbow. They hide during the day and at night climb trees to feast on moss and algae growing on tree trunks. These slugs are found on Mount Kaputar here in Australia.

Fluorescent pink slug, unique to Australian mountaintop, survives bushfires | The Guardian
A fluorescent pink slug, found only on a single mountaintop in northern New South Wales, has survived the bushfires that burnt through much of its alpine habitat.
Around 60 of the brightly coloured Mount Kaputar slugs, which can grow to a size longer than a human hand, were spotted by National Parks and Wildlife Service rangers after recent rainfall in Mount Kaputar national park.
The Kaputar fire burnt through the area for more than six weeks from October to December 2019, affecting more than 18,000 hectares of land.
The mountain was formed by a now-extinct volcano, and is home to at least 20 species of snails and slugs found nowhere else in the world. The area has been identified as an endangered ecological community, the first of its kind in Australia.
Some of the fluorescent slugs would have managed to survive the fire because they had “retreated into rock crevices” in the heat, the Australian Museum malacologist Frank Köhler said.
But around 90% of the slug population, which also hibernates in bark and trees, would have been killed in the fire, he said.
Much of the slug’s food sources – fungi, moss and mould – would also have been burnt by the fire, but Köhler said these species should recover relatively quickly.
In coming months the slug might be at risk of being seen more easily in the burnt landscape by hungry birds and mammals, said Köhler, but the bright colour could also act as a warning to dissuade the predators.
