Dora: I did. I broke-

Amanda: No, no you didn't. Boots?

Boots: Don't look at me. Look at Wooly.

Wooly: What? I didn't break it.

Boots: Huh. That's weird. How'd you even know it was broken?

Wooly: Because it's sitting right in front of us and it's broken.

Boots: [leans in on him] Suspicious.

Diego: If it matters - probably not - but Kai-Lan was the last one to use it.

Kai-lan: Liar! I don't even drink that crap!

Diego: Oh, really? Then what were you doing by the coffee cart earlier?

Kai-Lan: I use the wooden stirrers to push back my cuticles; everyone knows that, Diego!

Dora: Ok, ok! Let’s not fight! I broke it, let me pay for it, Amanda!

Amanda: No! Who broke it??!

Wooly: [looks at Pibby, then at Amanda] Amanda... Pibby's been awfully quiet.

Pibby: REALLY??

Wooly: Yeah! Really.

Pibby: Oh, my God! [everyone starts arguing at one another except Amanda]

Amanda: [to the crew inside her room] I broke it. It burned my hand, so I punched it. I predict ten minutes from now they'll be at each other's throats with war paint on their faces and a pig head on a stick. [turns to look at her friends as they continue to argue, then looks back] Good. It was getting a little chummy around here.

The Reunion Dinner (年夜饭, 团年饭 or 团圆饭) is an annual feast where family members reaffirm the love and respect that bind them together as a unit. It is also known as tuanyuan (团圆) or weilu (围炉) meaning “gathering around the family hearth”. This event is of sociological significance as it is a means to ensure the solidarity of the family and its cohesiveness. Family members are expected return to the family home for reunion dinner. The more traditional Chinese families also “invite” their deceased ancestors to join them by placing offerings on the family altar. As convention dictates, all sons return to their parental homes for the occasion. Married daughters, on the other hand, join their husbands’ families for reunion dinner on Chinese New Year Eve.

This year we managed to gather all members of my brothers and their families to join us for the Reunion Dinner (团圆饭). We decided to head back to Lai Huat Signatures (来發) at Gambas as the place is conveniently located nearby and accessible for all three of the families. We made reservation for 6pm and the place is already crowded. A brief discussion on what to choose from the abbreviated menu (compared to last year), we are ready to order.

First to be served is this Fish Maw with Crab Meat Soup (蟹肉鱼鳔羹). Although we ordered the large portion (S$45), there is barely enough to fill up ten small bowls and we have eleven people. As in the pictures, there are plenty of sliced fish maw, crab meat and mushroom in a thicken soup. I drizzled some black vinegar and a dash of pepper to give it acidity and spiciness. Texture wise, the fried fish maw is on the rough side and just needs a little more time on the stove.

If you are a coffee person, you will love this Coffee Pork Ribs (咖啡排骨). The boneless pork is dredged in flour and deep-fried before coated with a layer of savoury and sweet coffee-based sauce which is bound to give you that caffeine high. I love the succulent pork slices with the bittersweet coffee sauce clinging to meat and it goes well with rice.

Sis recommended the Braised Bean Curd Skin with Kai Lan (豆根芥兰). Most of us had never tried this combination of fried knotted bean curd skin with kai lan (Chinese broccoli or Chinese kale). But my younger brother and I think that the savoury oyster sauce (I think) works with the chewy bean curd skin and the still crisp bite of the vegetable along with whole shiitake mushrooms.

Pibby - She's a little shy, but she'll come around eventually, she seems to always jump whenever a static sound is played.. I wonder why.. Favorite subject: ENGLISH/MATH!

Doi - [YELLOW GUY DHMIS] A babbling nonsensical silly little guy who is always a treat to be around! He loves talking about his friends, his other friends, his other other friends. Sometimes he talks so much he forgets what he was talking about! always eager to learn though! Favorite subjects: MUSIC/SCIENCE!

Kai Lan - Adventurous as anyone else! She's always willing to help a friend, and make friends in turn! She's an artsy kid, who could never get away from a piece of paper. If you need any art supplies, she's usually the one to go to, she adores all things with dinosaurs and hearts! Favorite subjects: ART/MUSIC!

Dora - An explorer, always out and ready to take on the day! She's upbeat and optimistic, and always happy to help! She loves baking, playing music, and playing with her new classmates! Like I just saw a drawing with Amanda the Adventurer, Dora the Explorer, and Ni Hao, Kai-Lan all being cute little friends and having a sleepover 😍 Also the Welcome Home ARG and Don't Hug Me I'm Scared crew interacting with the Muppets and Sesame Street is always super cute. I know a real popular one is Bendy from BATIM being part of the cartoon universe with Mickey Mouse and Bugs Bunny. Someone needs to draw the og FNAF gang hanging out with the Chuck E Cheese characters cuz that be so adorable 💕 Also idk why but I feel like the Poppy Playtime characters would fit right in with the Blue's Clues universe.

I grew up with Nickelodeon/Nick.jr, a fun fact. I would be watching over Dora the Explorer, Ni Hao, Kai-Lan & Bubble Guppies

I remember that I would watch the main characters talking on screen and won't get tired of them. As someone who tried to understand English, I would let these shows reach me.

Now, years later. That same feeling hit me again with actual fandoms I was: TMNT 2012/2018 & Welcome Home

Watching the main character on screen and searching all over for their content.

My parents would be saying I was loving too much of Dora, Kai-Lan & Molly as a kid.
