DOES YOUR KIA NEED A RADIATOR REPAIR?
Tumblr media
RISING ENGINE TEMPERATURE
When the radiator stops controlling the coolant’s temperature, the heat inside your engine will rapidly rise. Your first warning of this will usually be the temperature gauge on your instrument panel shooting up into the red.
A Kia’s engine should ordinarily run between 195 and 220 degrees. If it rises above 220 degrees, parts inside the engine will rapidly start to break down; you might notice ticking sounds, a loss of engine power, and steam rising from under your hood. A car with an overheating engine can only go for a quarter of a mile before risking catastrophic damage, so never drive for long if you suspect overheating because of a failed radiator.
LEAKING COOLANT
If the coolant flowing through your radiator and engine leaks, the entire cooling system can no longer function properly, and your engine will rapidly overheat. So if you notice the temperature rising, check below your car for puddles of brightly colored, sweet-smelling fluid.
You can also check under your hood for signs of a leak. The coolant reservoir will be lower than expected, and you might notice patches of discoloration on various engine parts where the coolant has dripped or spurted and then boiled away. Leaks can sometimes stem from radiator caps or hose connections.
CORRODING OR RUSTING RADIATOR
Over time, radiators can start to rust. This is more likely in particularly humid or cold climates, or when your car is left to rest without being used for prolonged periods. When you visually check your radiator, check the caps and fins for signs of corrosion or rust.
Radiators can also sometimes rust internally if aging coolant loses its rust-prevention qualities. In this case, the coolant inside the transparent reservoir will begin to turn rusty brown in hue. A technician at your local dealership may be able to use special products and processes to destroy external and internal rust. But if the rust is extensive, you might need a new radiator.
HOW YOUR KIA DEALER CAN INSPECT YOUR RADIATOR
A technician will first check your coolant and flush it if necessary. They’ll then remove the radiator cap and check for excessive debris, and also examine the fins for any external clogging. To test the proper functioning of your radiator, they’ll also run a series of pressure checks on the fan, cap, thermostat, pump, and other essential parts.
Have your radiator inspected, repaired, or replaced today at Geweke Kia. We’ve been providing the drivers of Yuba-Sutter and Lodi for 25 years with great vehicles and great customer service.

Asia Rocsta, 1990. The Jeep clone was based on a military 4X4 made by Asia Motors since 1978. Available in both and hard top and soft top form, the Rocsta used Mazda 1.8 litre petrol and 2.2 litre Diesel 4 cylinder engines. It was sold in a limited number of international markets but became one of the last vehicles to carry the Asia badge because when it was discontinued in 1997 it was replaced by a Kia-badged 4X4

i need to talk about my disabled clone colony lest i die. it might be dumb but i don’t care
this is in no way organized so i apologize in advance
i’m cooking up an idea for small community of disabled or “defective” clones that would have otherwise been sent back to kamino for decommissioning or reconditioning. they operate a little like a mandalorian covert, and i was imagining that they hide in the lower levels of coruscant. only high-ranking clone commanders (and medics maybe? and also certain jedi??) know about them, and when a brother goes down hard and isn’t fit for battle anymore, the commander calls upon the covert to spirit them away to safety, if at all possible. two or so members of the covert kit up in the colors of whatever battalion they’re headed to, probably in some official GAR ship idk, and casually walk in and whisk the injured brother away. command lists them as KIA, body irrecoverable, so as to avoid needing to send a body or armor back to kamino. maybe they even destroy the armor, if not covertly redistribute it among the men if their various pieces need replacing.
the covert itself has clones from all across the GAR, so of course there are all sorts of skill sets to be found. medics and engineers work together to cobble together prosthetics with whatever meager supplies they can get their hands on. a select few able-bodied brothers wear masks or helmets with vocoders to disguise their voices when they go out for supplies or odd jobs, which i imagine could be anything from bounty hunting to stallkeeping, just as long as they can remain anonymous.
i don’t imagine the covert is particularly big in number, because saving an endangered clone isn’t always possible, but the covert does what they can for the GAR in their position. if they’re holed up on coruscant, maybe they act as informants and report to commander fox about various goings-on in the city, or keep tabs on sketchy senators, etc. fox takes care of them best he can. maybe jedi shadows are even in on it, because i’m a slut for jedi shadows…..
within the actual covert, maybe they took on an abandoned warehouse or an unused portion of a sewer system, and fixed it up to be comfortable and secure and totally unassuming, much like a mandalorian covert.
as for the clones, i wonder if they would feel the need to change their names — maybe some would and some wouldn’t? maybe it would depend on whether they were eligible to leave the covert for jobs and whatnot? maybe if they were, they’d use a fake name while out? much to think about… they’d obviously have no choice but to abandon their squads and their batchmates and go no-contact, and if they were ever to give their names outside of the covert, there’s always that slim chance that a recognizable name could make its way back to the GAR somehow.
it’s likely that many candidates for the covert would reject the offer to be sent there, since it’s literally desertion. this could cause complications in the process — would a commander even phrase it like an offer? if a brother rejected the offer on the grounds of desertion, there’s the chance they could snitch to kamino or spread the rumor, putting the covert’s safety in jeopardy. so maybe they’d phrase it like a question. “you’re unfit for duty, so it’s possible we’ll need to ship you back to kamino. if there was an alternative where you keep marching on, would you want to take it? even if it meant leaving the battalion for good?” and if they agree, then without explaining what would happen next, the commander calls in the covert, at which point the injured clone is officially marked KIA. maybe when the covert clones finally arrive and take the injured brother, they do so under the explanation of getting them ready for transport to kamino, and only when they’re safe inside their ship do they explain what’s actually happening. did any of this even make sense? i’m at work and literally just writing stream of consciousness
i think the clones that start the covert are straight-up deserters, a field medic and a captain. i have very little on them at the moment, but it might make the most sense for at least one of them to have been a corrie guard, if the covert lives on coruscant? anyway time to brainstorm more clone ocs thanks for reading

The impossible standards for emissions means that getting good gas mileage is less about the engine and more about the design of the whole car.
(It’s not a zero-sum game of efficient engines vs cleaner emissions but it’s close. It’s why when VW was tricking their emissions testing, their vehicles got such great mileage. Filtering and scrubbing takes energy that would usually go towards motion.)
So to reduce drag, and give the engines less work (increasing fuel-efficiency), anything that can catch air and slow the car down needs to be smoothed over. As such, cars have gotten rounder and smoother as time’s gone on.
As there are optimal designs for reducing drag, vehicles have started converging in looks. I don’t like it, but there is a reason.
Just be glad we don’t have cars covered with golf-ball dimples. According to mythbusters, that’s actually a more fuel-efficient design.
How come all cars/trucks are round now

TL; DR: He bricked the Cybertruck but the F-150 lived
youtube
I saw an edit of this video on here earlier and immediately had to go watch it for myself. It's a pretty good video and this guy has enough wild-eyed crazy in him that watching him destroy a vehicle is very entertaining.
The gist of the video is that he pits the Cybertruck against an F-150 in an extreme durability test. Obviously, this is for entertainment mostly and not necessarily a product review, so I felt compelled to add come context to the "flaws" and flaws the vehicles demonstrate.
Disclaimer: I am not a mechanic or an automotive engineer. I do have enough knowledge, however, to add some information to what the video shows. That said, let's go.
Rolling off the flatbed truck without ramps.
The major difference between combustion/"regular" and electric vehicles is not necessarily what fuel they use, but how the engine is composed.
Combustion engines feed fuel into into pistons which allow in a small amount of air in to combine with the ignition flame to begin and maintain the combustion process. These pistons then compress, driving the pressure into the rest of the engine and using the force to create motion. This is why a vehicle, if left in neutral with the brakes off, will drift forward - if the engine is running, combustion is taking place and that forward momentum will be used. These pistons are what mark out a vehicle's V classication - eg. V-4, V-6 and V-8. This V number represents how many of these pistons there are and therefore how much power they can output. V-4s are usually economy cars, mini vans or very small SUVs (think a Ford Fiesta, a Honda Odyssey or a Honda CR-V). V-6s are for more robust cars, SUVs, and light pickup trucks (think a Chrysler 300, a Kia Sorento or a Toyota Tundra). V-8s are the strongest type, and can be put towards speed or hauling, depending on thr design of the vehicle. A Ford Escape, for example, is very fast for an SUV because it is built light and spacious - intended to carry its load inside the body of the vehicle. A Chevrolet Silverado, by comparison, is meant to haul and puts its strength into pulling and torque instead of speed.
Due to the fact that combustion engines have to generate their own energy through the combustion process, these engines are very reliant on "hardware" - ei. physical parts that operate based on physical imput and interaction. The gearbox in your transmission, for example, is made up of actual gears that have to turn and lock into place for the transmission to turn and thus power the axels which spin the wheels.
Electric vehicles have none of this. Since they have no power generation requirement, that space is taken up by batteries and motherboards which fulfil all the roles of various hardware. Why would you need a transmission to turn when the motherboard can command the axels to turn on its own? The trade off is that EVs almost exclusively run on "software" - ei. the onboard computer. This means that their undercarriage has no dangling parts to get snagged or damaged like a CV.
Neither of these things are inherently bad. On one hand, EVs have nothing down there to snag when it rolls off the back of the flatbed. Downside, the high toxic, flammable and delicate batteries are in the undercarriage. Damaged motherboards are also much harder and trickier to replace and repair. CVs have a vulnerable undercarriage, but they're easy parts to replace or can be fixed quickly. Most of the undercarriage of a CV is also not flammable - it's just running hardware and exhaust.
Suspension and ride comfortability.
Suspension refers to the metal coils and hydraulics that take and displace the impact from tires hitting and running over things. Suspension exists on a spectrum from "soft" to "hard", and most vehicles fall somewhere in the middle.
"Soft" suspension is meant for ride comfort - the suspension coil is kept less tense and absorbs more impact, keeping the ride more level and smooth. This is common in luxury cars or brands like Cadillac or Lexus. The downside of this is that it wears your suspension down much faster. They need to be replaced more frequently and it can also be harder on the axels, depending on what you do with it. Speed bumps, if taken unevenly, really fuck soft suspension.
"Hard" suspension is meant for durability - the suspension coil is kept very tense and rigid, displacing the impact more into the body of the vehicle and back into the ground. This makes the ride a lot rockier, but the vehicle itself a lot more stable. Most vehicles with 4 Wheel Drive or offroading capability lean towards hard suspension to preserve the vehicle's integrity and power output.
In the video, the Cybertruck clearly has softer suspension than the hard suspension F-150. This is why the Ford had a rockier ride but the phone didn't go flying when they landed. The Ford is much more resistant to hard impact than the Cybertruck.
Towing and frame construction.
Towing capacity is in part from the horsepower put out by the engine, but also by the integrity of the frame.
Most vehicle's frames are one solid aluminum skeleton, sometimes welded in places but often cast all at once. Trucks, specifically, usually use the "unibody" design with a built-in trailer hitch. This allows the entirety of the frame to carry the weight of the towed object as it would if it were in the bed of the truck. This is what the Ford is doing when it pulls the Cybertruck out of the mud - the entirety of the body is being used to pull.
The Cybertruck's hitch, in contrast, is attached only to the bumpers and not the frame of the vehicle. The bumper was attached to the frame, however, and when it tore off, it caused structural damage to the frame.
Frame damage is critical damage. It destabilizes the entire structure and can actually tear the vehicle apart from within. That metal needs to be reinforced or wholly replaced to be servicable again.
Aluminum vs steel frame.
Most trucks have aluminum frames ans for good reason.
Aluminum has the highest strength to weight ratio second only to titanium, meaning that for how light it is, it is incredibly strong. An F-150 made of aluminum is thousands of pounds lighter than one made of steel and is more durable.
Steel also goes brittle in the cold faster than aluminum, meaning it is more prone to tearing or rending under force when its's cold. (There's a test to determine this called the Charpy Test - go look them up, they're really cool.) Aluminum also rusts slower and less catastrophically than steel. You can see how this would be in issue in the cold or if your vehicle is left outside regularly.
Fibre glass vs steel body.
In the C-4 test, it blew a hole right through the F-150, because obviously. The Cybertruck remained intact, but jammed the door. This is more damning for the Cybertruck than the Ford.
The Ford is designed with safety in mind. The body of the truck is meant to take the impact in the event of a crash instead if the occupants. These manifest as "crumple zones", where the vehicle will let itself be crushed instead of the passengers. Fibre glass is very good at that, so that's what most exterior bodies are made from.
Crucially, they are also intended to be destroyable by first responders. A firefighter responding to a crash can cut through the door of that Ford with a saw pretty easily and extract the occupants. Alternatively, an occupant can force the doors open from the inside too, if necessary.
The Cybertruck is made of sheet steel and therefore much harder to cut through than fibre glass. The impact also jams the door lock, making it impossible to open from the inside. If your truck is on fire after an accident, you better hope the other door still works or you're dying in there. On that note ...
Slamming the doors and breakable windows.
The integrity of the Cybertruck's interior is a joke. What the actual fuck is that. Granted, neither of these vehicles are meant to be slammed like that, but the Ford's doors held together very well in comparison.
That means that even small impacts like slamming the door are being transferred into all the soft, squishy parts of the inside of the Cybertruck whereas the Ford is dispersing it immediately.
He calls out Ford's windows for cracking during this test, but again, that's an intentional design.
You'll notice he was able to grab and wiggle the glass without it breaking apart. That's because the glass is also, like the crumple zones, intended to take an impact on behalf of the occupant. It is designed to crack and spiderweb out BUT NOT shatter. Shattering glass can cause a lot of harm, especially to the eyes and face. Instead, even if it does break apart, it stays in larger chunks.
The Cybertruck, by contrast, does not spiderweb nearly as efficiently as the Ford and does, in fact, shatter in the driver's side window when they're throwing weights at it. It doesn't disperse the impact, it shatters under pressure (despite putting up with a lot of abuse) and it loses integrity in localized spots quite quickly.
If you're in a crash, the Ford's windows won't rupture your eyes with tiny razors.
Pulling strips off the Cybertruck.
This got me. This was the worst part.
When he pulls the strips off the top edge of the body, over the doors, you'll notice that it was glued on.
GLUED.
You do not glue metal together. You weld, rivet or bracket metal to itself (preferably like metal to like metal). Metal is usually not a porous surface, meaning it has nothing for the glue to hold onto. Do you have any idea how dangerous this barely-adhered strip of sheet metal would be if it flew off in a car crash? It's a huge metal boomerang - it's gonna kill someone. Temu-ass materials indeed.
How the fuck do you half-ass something so hard that you start whole-ass fucking it up? Lawnmowers have better structural and safety integrity.
The uh, the Ford doesn't have glued on body parts. If you were wondering.
Drive by wire and bricking.
Drive by wire is a cool invention and I'm sure it's pretty useful. In EVs, it cuts further down on weight and mades the steering more responsive.
In my opinion, though, it's a hazard on its own.
In CVs, the wheels are controlled by your steering column, which is attached to your wheel. The operation of the wheel is aided by hydraulic systems which assist you in the actual effort of turning the wheels. When your engine dies or the steering assistants take a hit, you can still control the vehicle directly (though it is much harder).
Drive by wire without a backup steering column (like the Cybertruck has) means that if the vehicle dies while you're in motion, you have no control over the vehicle at all anymore. You're fucked. God forbid your truck bricks because you drove though a puddle on the highway and you lose control entirely.
On that note too, I am firmly of the belief that none of your driving essentials should be controlled via screen. Physical buttons and shifters allow physical feedback, letting the driver keep their eyes on the road and move by muscle memory and touch alone. Touch screens are hazardous to the driver and those around them by forcing them to look at what they're pressing as opposed to the road. The Cybertruck's control screen being in the centre console also cuts down the driver's capability to use peripheral vision to monitor the traffic around them.
Now, most EVs put out by real companies do have a steering column and manual sticks still in place for these reasons, so it's not an EV problem, it's a Tesla one.
Driving off the lot.
I don't give a shit. Every vehicle you buy should come as advertised and drivable off the lot. You shouldn't have to get an app, set up an account and register your vehicle in order to charge the damn thing.
No one should be able to steal my car by stealing my phone. I draw the line. Fuck off.
So, yeah. The Cybertruck sucks even worse than we already thought it did. If you want an EV, buy it from a company that actually makes vehicles and not a billionaire's vanity toy company.

Thoughts on a 2001 Ford Crown Victoria? My mom inherited ours from her dad after he died. We named it Tori and drove it for almost ten years before it started to have enough problems that my mom bought a Kia Sorento (still unnamed) to replace it around four years ago
Tori was a decent adjustment to get used to, since our other car that we had first was a 90s Ford Escort named the Little Red Wagon lol
Oh, the Crown Vic! They look killer slammed!
Tumblr media
The Crown Vic is a legend! It was I'm pretty sure the last body on frame car ever produced!
"Body on frame?"
Tumblr media
Body on frame.
The one you see below is the frame, which holds the engine and the things it turns. Atop the frame is laid the body, which holds the people and the things they operate.
Nowadays, though, the body is strengthened and engine and suspension are bolted right to the body. Well, usually to smaller sub-frames themselves mounted to the body, but still, there is no single big frame holding them all together - that role is filled by the body itself, providing a considerable weight advantage, and also allowing designs that actually crumple on impact so they can absorb the force and allow you to not die.
This type of construction still survives in off-roaders, being a better fit for the banging, bonking and car-twisting off-road trails - but as far as on-roaders, body on frame has gone the way of the dodo with the Crown Vic in 2012.
I don't know if I would want one, hell, I don't even know whether I genuinely like it or I'm just intrigued by how quintessentially American it is, but I feel like that has value in itself. Experiencing a Crown Vic to me feels a bit like eating a French baguette. Let's see how the stereotype feels, so to speak.

Tell us about the Big Damn Heroes incident where Ilse almost murdered Piotr
So, to start with: Piotr is the kind of guy who would rather suffer himself than let other suffer if he can help them. The man has a heart of gold and it's gotten his ass kicked more than once in his life. He's got a strong sense of justice and loyalty and would give you the shirt off his back or take on someone he knows is going to beat the shit out of him if means you'd be spared the harm.
At some point in his late twenties he joins the army as a tank mechanic and serves in both Korea and part of Vietnam. In the latter conflict, he gets set to a forward repair base when their foreman is KIA. He's slated to take the guy's place temporarily until his replacement arrives, and while he's there they end up having to go on tank recovery in hostile territory.
Now, retrieving an M48 Patton tank is almost always going to be An Affair in and of itself, depending on just how badly damaged it is. And if it was damaged enough that it couldn't be driven back to base, that means you've gotta send people out to get it, which requires a tank recovery vehicle (usually just another wholeass tank modified for towing) and also possibly do any repairs that it might need to even make it towable, and do so in the field.
This is what Piotr and his guys are doing when they discover it was a trap and they walked right into it.
So bullets are flying and people are diving for cover, of which there isn't much. Piotr is the guy in charge as far as the mechanics go, and he knows that the longer they sit there the more losses they'll incur. Yeah, they've got a guy on the radio yelling for backup, but between that moment and when backup actually arrives, IF it arrives at all, is an unknown quantity and a lot can happen in that time frame. Their best bet is to get to the recovery vehicle and beat a hasty retreat, while hoping the VC don't have any anti-tank weapons.
So this motherfucker decides that it's his job to get the recovery vehicle unhooked from the tank they were gonna recover and pile as many guys into it as possible while providing moving cover for anyone else so they can get out of the middle of things and into a more defensible position. Of course, this is a dumb idea, but Piotr can be dumb as a box of rocks at times. He's a machinist, engineer and mechanic, not a tactician.
He gives his dog tags to another guy, says the classic 'tell my wife and kid i love them' line, and then runs off. Miraculously, he's not instantly hit. Instead, when he gets to where the two vehicles are hooked together, he runs into an enemy soldier. Once again, he miraculously escapes injury or death by bayonet and instead brains the guy on reflex with the mini sledgehammer he had in his hand. Being close enough to see the effects of a hammer on a human head and watching the guy die is not something he was ever prepared for, and it's here that he locks up and gets hit. Not only does he get perforated, but his left knee takes a decent piece of shrapnel right to the joint and he gets a pretty nasty concussion and goes down.
Backup does arrive, and being concussed and panicky because holy shit he's been hit, Piotr gets uncharacteristically combative and gets his ass sedated before he's flown out to a MASH unit where he's patched up. But when he starts to come out of sedation, he's still combative due to having a traumatic brain injury and keeps saying his last name isn't Spengler, it's Kowalski, so not only can they not immediately verify his identity, he gets put in a medical coma for a while and is expected to recover but have chronic problems at absolute best.
While he's out, a clerical error occurs where he's mistakenly listed as KIA, and the corresponding letter is sent out to his wife, who is understandably distraught. Luckily, the day after she gets the letter, Piotr is brought out of the coma and it turns out he's just one of those lucky sons of bitches who recovers completely from the brain injury and nobody really knows why or how. And once he's been awake for a day or so, he finds out that he was mistakenly listed as dead and goes 'Oh fuck I need to call my WIFE.' Which he does, and when he explains that this whole mess is because he was trying to be a hero, he gets chewed out in German loud enough for everyone in the vicinity to hear.
Not long after that, he finds himself on his way home on a medical discharge because the cartilage of his left knee got pretty fucked up and he's no longer fit to serve. But rather than a warm welcome, Piotr is greeted with a halfhearted slap across the face and another tirade of German as Ilse goes off about what an ass he is, how he scared the shit out of her, about what a dipshit move that was taking off his dog tags and trying to be a hero, etc etc. The ride home is quiet and tense, as is getting settled in for the evening.
Once everything is put away and they're behind closed doors though, he pulls Ilse in for a hug and apologizes for putting her through so much. er emotions finally come out and she just sort of collapses into the hug and cries. Seeing her crying over the whole thing has more of an impact on Piotr than her being pissed enough to slap him; he goes to sometimes comical lengths to avoid causing her distress or otherwise upsetting her or making her feel bad, even on accident, and knowing that he did it anyway really eats at him for awhile.
Over the decades though, the time Ilse almost murdered her husband for being a shit idiot becomes something of a running joke.
Along with the time he got goaded into going streaking on a motorcycle.

Tips from working in a car factory:
Don't:
Buy some models of Kias or Hyundais model years 2011-2021, easy to steal due to cost cutting measures and the fix is like $700. Not listing the models here, do your research
Buy Jeeps, well known for electrical issues in more modern models
Buy Teslas, panel gaps and alignment issues, various parts issues, general poor quality bodies and builds, may explode, may go rogue and mow down a pedestrian (#justteslathings)
Buy 2016 GMC Acadias, power steering is known to leak and the recommended fix may involve replacing the engine bay wiring altogether ($$$) and may also fuck up the O2 sensor (poor engine performance among other issues), can cause fires when oil gets where it shouldn't
Do:
Be aware of Lemon Laws
Keep on top of recommended maintenance (Change oil after 5k-7.5k miles OR by the date printed on the sticker on your windshield, get a tire rotation every 5k miles, etc)
Keep your owner's manual (and actually use it)
Research common issues with make and model BEFORE purchase
Keep up to date on recalls for your car. It's easy to think it's not an issue until it is.
Google what your car's jack points are if you need to jack the car such as you would need to when you change a tire
Will update over time

The Art of the Slowpoke, or How I Stopped Caring About HP
Tumblr media
This is the Lamborghini SC20. It's a one off, some 750 HP and uh, well no roof. I don't know the name of this style, but it has been a thing with a lot of one-off, or limited run cars. I don't really get it, but to be frank, I don't really hate it either. I do like this car, it's a nice design, the color scheming is rather different (when was the last time you saw a stock blue & white Lambo?), but to be frank, I would never own it. Yeah, I couldn't afford it ever my life, but even if I could, it wouldn't be my first pick of car. Hell, it wouldn't even be the first Lamborghini I'd go for. That'd be the Diablo. But, well, there's still a dozen dozen cars I'd go for first.
Tumblr media
Frankly, it'd be something like this. An AMC Gremlin. A little shitbox American car from the mid-70s with a V8 that barely shits out as much power as a modern Miata. Top speed of 100 when it goes downwind, bodywork with more rust than solid metal, cheap as shit. It's perfect. It's pure, shithole 70's Detroit, when the oil crisis meant "lets make the worst fucking cars imaginable and kill the muscle car."
Tumblr media
Meanwhile, only 5-6 years ago, Italy pushed out this absolute centerfold of a car, the Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale, a car with as much horsepower as an RX8 but enough oomph to still hit 200 mph. In 1968. It's one of those multi-million dollar cars nowadays, a holy grail of ownership that half the examples are probably rotting away in some dickhead's collection. And I absolutely adore this car, don't get me wrong. I'd kill to drive this for a day, even. But I'd still buy a Gremlin first.
Tumblr media
Cool shitboxes really aren't a thing anymore, frankly. Low horsepower, but high fun factor. Japan puts out a lot of cheap, sporty cars, sure, but a lot pale in comparison to their older generations. Would sooner buy a '93 Civic than a '23. But in a fun, almost poetic twist, you have thisun. The Abarth 124 Spider. Well, it's mostly a Miata, but all the fixin's are done up by Abarth. It's still only 165 HP, less than a fucking Kia Soul Turbo, but come on, would you really buy one of those over this? The Miata might've turned from the hairdresser car to the weird cult icon it's become in recent years, but this one stands out from the rest. The Fiata as they call it, sounding 100 HP more aggressive than it is, only able to hit 140 on a good day. And it goes racing. Brings to mind something else, really...
Tumblr media
Yeah, the Ford Escort. A car that started life as a cheap family car, a replacement for the Anglia (The stupid flying car from Harry Potter), turned into a long running icon of Ford's rallying success. It's a tale not unheard of in the sport, the Fiat 131 in the 80's was a similar story, but its an inspiring story. Something so simple, so low-power, under the radar, turning into a motoring icon on the dirt. That is something I just adore. Seeing these cars some would consider lower echelon becoming full-blown powerhouses almost out of nowhere. Something that a lot of cars have kinda lost. Sure, the Focus is a cheap, fun car, but it's been pretty heavily involved with motorsport that it kinda loses its luster.
Tumblr media
Cases like this fucking drift Corolla. Who fucking cares about the Toyota Corolla? It's arguably played second fiddle to the Celica for a long time, but here you have this one that's a part of the Formula Drift circuit, sporting over a thousand horsepower, it's barely even close to the original. But god you have to just love this thing. The engineering behind it, the sheer insanity of it. The gall to take something so basic, so common, and make it a contender in the drift scene. That is some real love for the little guy. A love that has really been left wanting in the modern times.
Tumblr media
In a world where you have active-aero so ridiculously advanced it tilts in 20 different directions at different speeds on a road car, there's not much fun for the little guy. There's a reason that so many slower, yet interesting cars are all 15+ years old. Automakers, owners, hell, most people don't have cars to care about these days. The age of the SUV is upon us. And yeah, some of those are pretty interesting, fast and powerful. But even the 70's and 80's put out more interesting garbage than most modern stuff. Just look at the new Integra. What about that screams "Integra?"
Tumblr media
This was a bunch of rambling that really didn't pay much attention to the topic I wanted to talk about, but maybe the point gets across. Power and luxury don't make a dream car, always. Just spirit, a love for the machine, and maybe just a pinch of personal experience.

RH could release the same # of dolls w/o overloading the cast if they wanted to
replace series 5 w/ 1 chara from each previous series & the outfits still match (using pacific coast instead of series 4 bc it's still relatively recent)
carmen->stella
victoria->georgia
olivia->vanessa
michelle->phaedra
keep kim & aiden
keep the og SH charas & make series 2 a classroom line. since they came w/ accessories instead of 2nd outfits, make the accessories themed around each character's focus (& once again the new outfits still mostly match the old charas!)
karla->natasha
zooey->luna
dia->nicole
monique->shanelle
keep glitch but make her a performing arts focus
keep rex, make him & shanelle siblings. the webisode arc can be about them having to design something together, w/ b-plots about the other classes
center SH series 3 on the music focuses & bring back neon shadow. give each chara a specialization to expand their personalities & interests!
pinky->mara, sound design, specifically sound fx for cartoons & videogames
scarlet->harley, songwriting/composing
rosie->uma, music therapy or something i dunno
oliver->ash, audio engineering, specifially for stage productions
keep lavender, make her a music video director

jett (b&w+rainbow)
amaya (bright rainbow)
kia (pastel rainbow)
use the new body molds for the rainbow vision bands

Still hilarious how in the first Kelvin movie, literally nobody in the Enterprise crew is competent at their job until TOS cremates start rolling in all on the same day.
It starts with Sulu being in the seat because the actual pilot is on sick leave.
Then, the communication officer going "I can't tell Vulcan from Romulan" (hello, how did you ever do you job??) replaced on the spot by Nyota "I speak all three dialects" Uhura.
Meanwhile Bones get chief medical because the previous one is KIA
Following, iconic Pavel "I can do zat!" Chekov running through the whole ship to get to the beam controls because apparently the current operator can't teleport two people moving linearly.
Removing Spock from command to prevent him from making mistakes becomes an actual plot point
And Scotty is aboard for a whole of five minutes before being named chief engineer, I guess the post was just left vacant
Honestly, how did Pike ever got anything done
