Kdramas i've watched this year
Some of these are older dramas but i'm a procrastinator
Black Knight (2023): Loved this one! I have watched it probably 5 times now. Kim Woobin kicking ass is all i need!
Under the Queen's Umbrella (2022): I didn't watch this when it aired (no idea why). I was worried that the plot would be overrun by romance but thankfully i was wrong. Loved Kim Hye-Soo's performance (i cried a little).
Island seasons 1 & 2 (2022-2023): Honestly i only started this one for Kim Nam-Gil. I loved the cast, but the flow of the plot was a little off (don't know how, i can't put a finger on it). Was positively suprised by Cha Eun-Woo's acting, i think he needs more roles like this! Hot villain alert no.1! Sung Joon as a bad guy is either a blessing or a curse. Cgi could have been better.
Taxi Driver season 2 (2023): Loved the first season so of course i had to watch the second one. Love Lee Je-Hoon. Love the main characters. Love the plot and the message of this drama. A masterpiece. Waiting for season 3.
Weak Hero Class 1 (2022): Only heard of this drama wayyy after it aired (thanks tiktok) and god does it deserve every award there is! I was a bit hesitant because Park Ji-Hoon was the main lead, but boy was i wrong because his talent got me speechless (weren't we all). I cried, i cheered, i shadowboxed, i cried a little more and in the end i called my therapist. Thankfully season 2 is coming.
Bloodhounds (2023): Woo Do-whan and Lee Sang-Yi in the same drama beating people up? Yes please! The plot wasn't mindblowing, but sometimes just simple ass kicking is enough. Bromance was bromancing. Park Sung-Woong with another great villain character.
Revenant (2023): After dropping Mr.Sunshine i wanted to see Kim Tae-ri in other dramas, so when this aired i gave it a go. Her range is phenomenal! I have only seen couple spookier dramas, so i made a mistake and watched this at night (slept with the lights on). The eerie vibes and plot twists were well made. Hong Kyung had great chemistry with Kim Tae-ri and his cop role was refreshing to see after his performance in Weak Hero Class (if you know you know).
Flower of Evil (2020): Okay, this is one of the dramas i procrastinated hard on. It's been sitting on my "have to watch" list since it aired and i'm the only one to blame (i hype up a drama in my mind, then don't want to watch it because now i'm afraid it doesn't go the way i think it does and then i get disappointed blaablaablaa). This year i finally got over myself and why. didn't. i. watch. it. sooner!!!! It is all i ever wanted in a kdrama. 1. serial killers 2. a psychopath (but is he really?) w/ an effed up childhood 3. mindgames 4. marriage problems (but has a lot of soft & cute scenes) 5. Lee Joon-Gi. Also as a plus (hot villain alert no.2) the bad guy is kindaa (i'm sane i swear). I would be lying if i didn't say that i found the wife slightly annoying (might be me, but she went too much back & forth and sometimes i had to take a breather while watching), but all in all this drama will be hard to top and i fell in love with Lee Joon-Gi.
Moving (2023): Honestly one of the best dramas of the year. I don't usually really go for plots that have a lot of romance in them (if you haven't noticed), but i found this one to be really well balanced and the romance scenes weren't "cringy". Although Bong-Seok and Hui-Soo were great and had great chemistry, i looooved the background stories of the parents. Park Hee-Soon also pops up as kind of a non-villain villain. I hope there is a season 2.
Song of the Bandits (2023): Kim Nam-Gil again. 1920s Korea and gunslingers... what more could i need? After Mr. Sunshine left me with a disappointment (this might be an unpopular opinion) i craved for a drama set around the same time period, but with a little less romance (i know, i am defective). I think dramas should explore this time period more, but i understand it might still be a touchy subject. The skills of the cast were obviously great, Kim Nam-Gil killed his role like always, but Lee Ho-Jung as Eon-Nyeon shined with her performance (i am now a new fan). Hot villain alert no.3! I have seen Lee Hyun-Wook in Remarriage & Desires and seeing him as a villain made me feel things. If there isn't a second season i will cry.
The Killing Vote (2023): A "serial killer" in a dog mask making the public vote on punishing criminals and everyone suspects each other? Cyber crime? Chemistry between two cops? Major hot villain (no.4)? Sign me up. I love when crime dramas make you question your people reading skills (i have the tism so i really got none) and have all kinds of theories flying around. I liked that even Kim Mu-Chan and Joo Hyun had obvious chemistry between them it didn't overshadow the main point of the plot. I liked Seo Young-Joo's delivery and i hope he gets more bigger roles. Kim Kwon.... why does the psychopath have to be hot? He also needs more bigger roles. !spoiler! Also Park Sung-Woong killing (heh) yet another morally grey character.
The Worst of Evil (2023): Okay, first of all i have to say... the wife ruined everything (some agree and some don't). We get another bromance duo of the year with Wi Ha-Joon and Ji Chang-Wook. Loved the crime organization infiltration plot, heavily despised the romance plot (sorry Bibi baby). I was constantly on the edge of my seat and the characters started to get so morally grey that in the end everyone needs group therapy. Action scenes were chefs kiss. A honorable mention goes for Lee Shin-Ki as Seo Jong-Ryul (or Chief Seo, knife guy, the man has many names) and Bibi for her performance as Lee Hae-Ryeon.
Evilive (2023): Heavily underrated. Kim Young-Kwang doing what he does best, playing a psychopath. This combined with a bromance plot with the one and only bromance master Shin Ha-Kyun? I'm sold. The dramas literal title "villain story" really sums up the plot. Sometimes you are not sure who to cheer for. Sometimes you are not really sure about your own sanity. But to be fair, so aren't the main characters.
Vigilante (2023): Love it. Currently re-watching it. Needs more attention. Needs more episodes. I'm in love with Nam Joo-Hyuk. The best crime drama of the year, the title is all i needed to hear. Beating up criminals in well made action scenes is my favorite genre. No romance. One sided bromance? Morally grey characters (am i repeating myself now?). Yoon Ji-Tae as a beefy cop and Lee Joon-Hyuk as a slightly insane admirer? If we don't get a season 2 i will start a riot.

Mask Girl was such a disturbing show in its essence, its sole purpose meant to provoke the audience regarding the cruel standards that society sets upon women, and is emblematic of a depraved mindset where companionship is naught and loneliness seeps within your entire being. Its a society ruled by wealth and power and remains barbarous towards the youth who continue leading unfulfilling lives in every sphere and succumbing to beauty standards displays an outlet from their poverty. ( I remember reading a tumblr post about korean history and how the mindset of working till you affect yourself brutally is seeped within their mindset and it gave me a conspicuous look into korean society and somehow this show reminded me of the post) I really appreciate the show for abandoning the Instagram filtered, romanticized lens that occupy most kdramas ( they tend to relent towards romanticism esp in terms of depicting the reality of women) and illustrating the pervading violence encompassing their lives ( Kim Momi's life is fraught with psychological abuse) and men like Oh Namju who are an inbred product of the turpitude of many Asian societies.

[Queen of Tears Ep 07]
Finally, someone trashed the old and overused annoying "I realized I still love you." (Park Ji-eun-nim thank you very much!)
Hyun-woo is metaphoring how he feels for her to their lock in Germany.
Tumblr media
All along, Hyun-woo thought he fell out of love. That somewhere along the way in their marriage, that spark they had got lost, like how they couldn't find the lock at first. But now that he was here, he understood that it was still there. He just had to take a step back and dig a little deeper. And he found it. A little worn out, but it was there, still holding on. Just buried underneath many other emotions.
Tumblr media
So now I wonder what was running through Hae-In's mind during that time. She was probably infuriated, wanting to yell, scream, hit him... but then here he was, admitting that even after all he'd thought, said, and done, he found that she was still there. In his heart. And she knows it's the truth.
She wasn't angry. She was upset. She was disappointed he even thought of doing that. So she gave up. That's why it angered him. He broke her and made her cry. When all he wants now is to stay by her side forever.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Love can wear out the same things do. But after all, aren’t the worn-out things the most beautiful?

let's talk about han daon and kang bitna (because i can't be stopped, nor can it be contained!)
i'll be discussing eps 1-8 of judge from hell below with some spoilers - nothing too big but proceed at your own risk!
KSJHSJAL i just love them so much already so i must post about them
firstly, i can't get over the visible surprise on daon's face when bitna said she'd believe him if he came to her as a child. followed by his literal tears. it almost got me, chat.
after being shunned and disregarded during the investigation into his family's murder, someone has finally listened (and a demon at that) to him without making it seem like forced sympathy or charity, albeit years later. but that doesn't matter to him because he was heard.
and again when they go hiking and they're slightly distanced from the group, daon feels comfortable enough in her company to share what happened to his family because it's her and she doesn't judge him at all (in these moments, at least).
despite their banter and bickering, they are able to have heartfelt moments that are soo intimate even in the absence of any physical contact.
ALSO the sheer angst and disappointment when he confirmed that it was, in fact, bitna killing all of the convicts. he was so frustrated because, as much as he wanted to put a face to these crimes and prevent more deaths from happening, he didn't want it to be her. he should've been relieved for catching her red-handed but, instead, he's evidently feeling torn apart and feeling let down.
bye i could talk for days about them and it's only been 8 episodes

to those interested in watching queen of tears, if you don't understand how marriage works or how married people act, don't watch it.
i'm not trying to offend or anything, but chances are you'll either start choosing sides between hyun woo and hae in, hate on it, hate on either mains or both, drop it two eps in, or all of it because it'll be hard to understand
how it uses comedy as a coping mechanism to deliver how marriage can be so hard sometimes it makes you want to run off a cliff
or how people can act the coldest to the person they love so much to their death
or when you marry someone, you marry their family, especially in this situation where hae in's family is on her whether she wants to walk away from them or not, but she loves them so she doesn't because she knows that leaving them hurts more than staying and she knows the best life she can get is from her family and hyun woo doesn't say anything about because it's family therefore her decision.
because marriage is no longer just love, it's support, which is so much more invisible than love, especially to your partner.
if you're unfamiliar with marriage, you are going to be tearing your hair out at their hesitations and yet habits and facts they have for each other but it goes unnoticed because they're used go it, because they're married.
if you don't understand or know how marriage works or can't keep an open mind throughout, don't watch queen of tears just to end up hating on it.

Vigilante has blown my mind. It has ticked every one of my boxes thus far. I do not exaggerate when I say that every single second of the four episodes I've seen had me HOOKED. Every second.
Yes, I do mean that unironically 👀
I'm not coherent rn, nor will I ever be about this I think, but if you enjoyed Taxi Driver and are waiting for season 3, like me, you can NOT miss this show. It's been adapted from a web toon (not sure how well) and while it is on the darker side (more so than Taxi Driver, because the consequences for the bad guys are significantly worse), it has a beautiful lightness to it that (refreshingly!) doesn't trivialise the deeper themes but in fact charges the whole show with emotion and nuance. The friendships and the mentoring are not too on the nose but instead perfectly balance the protagonist's lonelier and darker side.
So very gratifying to watch a kdrama that delivers like this after a long time. The action. The acting. The music. The drama. The writing. The pace. The plot. They did not pull any punches, good lord.
I have to say that the ending of the fourth episode delivered a full course meal. I could NOT be more satisfied. Which is why I'm here! Ranting about it to you! Go watch it if you're looking for some quality escapism 🙌

5 must watch kdramas if you are in search of something unique
When it comes to Kdramas, you can expect a number of varieties in the plots. Some are plain rom-com, while others focus more on crime and thriller, some are painting ever-existing social issues in front of the audiences, while others are taking them to a trip of fantasia. All in all, you can get whatever you want here.
However, it can get quite monotonous after a while. Since there are now a lot of rom-coms based on Boss-employee relationships or fantasy dramas based on non-human leads falling in love with the human leads, nothing is hard to predict. In this scenario, you must crave to watch something that has a refreshment to offer. Something that is not so predictable and leaves you hooked on the drama for good. And if you are looking for something just like this, then you are at the right place because I am about to suggest 5 must watch kdramas if you are looking for something unique. So, let’s get into it.
1. Reborn Rich
Tumblr media
Trust me when I say Reborn Rich is nothing like the dramas we are used to watching even if it has that chaebol backdrop. This Song Joong Ki starrer is based on the revenge of an employee, who gets falsely accused and killed by his employers. Just on the moment he dies, he is reborn as the youngest son of the same employers but this time he goes back in time and starts from the start. Jin Do Jun now carefully plans his revenge as he claims his inheritance over the entire conglomerate. The twists and turns of the drama are really intriguing. In a moment Jin Do Jun is winning in the rat race and the next moment he is being interrogated by his girlfriend herself. But what is even more intriguing, is the ending of the drama! That unpredictable ending will keep you in a chokehold until you can’t comprehend what you have just watched. Additionally, if you have interest in business and finance then this one is a must watch for you.
2. Celebrity
Tumblr media
Do you crave to have the limelight upon you? If yes, then let me tell you it comes with a caution. You might have to sacrifice more than what you can gain and all of it is pictured perfectly in Celebrity. This drama is the story of Seo A Ri, who accidentally becomes an e-celeb and completely despises what it has to offer. But soon she discovers the brighter side of the glam life she is offered and makes the best out of it, nonetheless, soon she finds herself succumbing to the darkness once she used to hate. This drama shows the downside of having an overly luxurious life and being addicted to social media popularity, which ends up costing A Ri’s life. But there is more to unfold. Celebrity is certainly intriguing but Park Gyu Young’s praise-worthy performance and the high-voltage cameos make it even better. If you want to watch a bad-ass female lead and a lot of unpredictable cliff-hangers then this drama is certainly a must watch for you.
3. Remarriages and Desires
Tumblr media
From the title the drama may sound to be one of the typical kdramas dealing with melodramatic plot but no, it’s not. Remarriages and Desires have a much heavier plot than you might assume. This one again is a revenge drama, but this time more on a domestic level. The drama focuses on a matchmaking agency called Rex, which signs up some of the wealthiest personalities of South Korea in order to match them up with their better halves. Seo Hye Seung’s not-so-simple life gets even more complicated when her mother enrolls her in as one of the members of Rex. However, she takes the chance of remarriage upon her unexpected encounter with Jin Yoo Hee, played by Jung Yoo JIn, there. Jin Yoo Hee is the person with whom Hye Seung’s ex cum late husband cheated her on and opted for a divorce. There begins the petty game of revenge and things get more and more intriguing by the end of the drama. However, only 8 episodes don’t do justice to the intriguing plot that it has. Nevertheless, this is one of the best dramas you can binge watch within a span of 24 hours.
4. W - Two Worlds
Tumblr media
W is one of the most underrated suspense thrillers to ever be made, you can’t convince me otherwise. The plot of this drama focuses on two parallel words that are going on side by side and integrated by a door through a web novel. While Kang Chul, played by Lee Jong Suk, thinks he is pretty much real, Oh Yeon Joo’s sudden appearance in his life reveals that he is nothing but a character of a manga written by Yeon Joo’s father. Even though the backdrop of the drama hints at a rich guy falling for a random girl trope, it has a lot to offer. Your mind will go numb with all the predictions by the end. With an unexpected ending, an unexpected villain and an unexpected story development it becomes one of the must watches when you look for something unique.
5. Extraordinary You
Tumblr media
Now this might seem to be an unhinged suggestion but wait, this is different. Extraordinary You is not a typical highschool romance as it seems it be, there are more. The drama is set within a comic novel. Yes, you read it right, within a comic novel, where all the characters are highschoolers and totally unaware of the fact that they are not even real. Until one day Eun Dan Oh, played by Kim Hye Yoon, finds out the truth. She then tries to change her pre-written fate at all cost as she doesn’t want to die at an early age. Changing her fate becomes even easier when she meets Haru, played by Rowoon. But things are not at all easy as it seems. The drama has a very unique plot indeed but it also has massive cringe alerts. So, please proceed with caution if you are not into sweet talks and PDA. Nevertheless, the unpredictable ending of the drama makes it a good addition when you want to watch something unique.
So what are you waiting for, get your spicy chicken ready and start binge watching these dramas if you have not already. I will see you in another post, another day.

Kdrama that should have been bls
FIRST UP- MATCH MADE IN HELL
Hell is other people - calls him darling, protects him from *evil* people, keeps him company, makes him a custom bracelet. Need I say more. his girlfriend and him had 0 chemistry. because all the chemistry was between him and the *weird dentist who seems to be too much in me*. and *weird dentist* was not afraid to show his love outwards. if only we could them being reciprocated. but he loved him. so much so that he turns into him. would have been a perfect murder couple.
Psychopath diary- another attempt at trying to turn his boyfriend into him. even does all of the preparations . but his boyfriend is too dumb. always love the part where he shows off his special interest in his boyfriend. CEO!?!?!! with a measly employee. and the way he gets jealous when his boyfriend has other plans. would have been the psychopath and his cute boyfriend. but only some people know what kind of a person he can be *wink wink*.
The merciless- unlike the previous ones. this one did not need to MAKE his boy. he already came with the preparations. he just needed to tame him. but went too far with a brat and paid the price. (seems like im siwan has a thing for gay-coded roles. and unlike the others the direction of this film did say that the characters were written as having a romantic relationship but changed it in the end to avoid criticism. F*ck homophobes.)
Beyond evil- (haven't seen but know its gay) seems like all my favorite boys are gay-coded. not that i'm complaining. If Hollywood was brave enough and artsy enough during those buddy cop movies we would get something like this.
The devil judge- (haven't seen but know its gay) f*ck world. I just wanna be a malewife to the dictator in a dystopian world.
