It's such a bummer that Precure doesn't get dubbed bc I know for a fact that the little kids I work with would eat that shit up, but they're not at the reading level where they can quickly read subtitles.

They're so into anything big sparkly anime eyes poofy skirts intricate outfits magic powers magical girl-core without actually having current magical girl icons and it's a travesty. I've drawn them so many cute characters for them to color and even made them a few fairysonas and it's always 100000% Precure inspired. It kills me that they don't have access to The Source, it would change their lives.

God I hate it when people say that Magical Girls are too dark nowadays. Like, c'mon magical girls have been dark since the dawn of the genre.

You guys want an anime like Sailor Moon again and yet fail to realize that Sailor Moon itself is dark as fuck. Literally in the first finale of the show, all the Sailor guardians fucking die. Sure they're brought back to life but still.

Also, I get the hate towards the Madoka copycats. I get it. But most of these copycats aren't copycats. Daybreak Illusion, Yuki Yuna is a Hero, and Magical Girl Raising Project are all there stories. Except Magical Girl Site I guess.

Also Princess Tutu, Fresh Precure, and Heartcatch Precure are all pretty dark before Madoka Magica came to be. (Although Heartcatch was the inspiration for Madoka Magica)

You want more light hearted magical girls? Well, you won't get much because in every magical girl show you will get something dark. Even in western shows. For example, Lolirock, the main villian has probably killed multiple people during his reign. This includes Talia's and possibly Iris's parents.

Even the most light hearted of shows aren't safe from this. Except Magical Angel Creamy Mami. I haven't made it so far to the anime so it's probably a cute title.

Anyways, if you want a more cute magical girl story, then maybe make one your own. Do a webcomic, a small short series, or even just make OCs based on the ideas.

Why am I even ranting about this? Well, I remember seeing a post that says that Hirogaru Sky Precure was already (and I'm exaggerating a bit here) dead to them because of spoilers. Let's just say that the season was already getting into dark territory by that point.

I'm not going to name who that was (because I forgot) but dark Precure seasons already exist. The aforementioned Fresh and Heartcatch Pretty Cure are all considered the darkest seasons of Precure and they were successful. Especially Fresh, since that season basically saved the whole franchise.

Dark magical girl series are here to stay. They have been around for quite around now and they won't stop anytime soon. The only magical girl series that I want to see made fun of is Magical Girl Site. Anyways that's it. It's just a little rant I have about the magical girl fanbase.

I should do the same thing for the Vocaloid fanbase too because holy hell I hate the gatekeeping in that fandom.

~ Cure Summer is not a mean girl at all. So she admires how you can confidently say such things. So she asks for advice! Both on making up insults, and just being mean in general. However, though she tries her best, being rude just isn’t one of her strong suits.

~ Now, Cure Papaya is completely fine with your methods of battling. It doesn’t bother her in the slightest, even when you use foul language. She even encourages you to keep going at times. As long as it helps to win the fight, she’s fine.

I went down another dubbing rabbit hole. I am utterly fascinated by Glitter Force right now. Glitter Force is a hacked up Americanized and censored localization of Smile Precure. Before I continue though, I need to preface with: I have not watched Glitter Force or Smile Precure. I am not an expert! This is all coming from what I've read while researching the topic and hearsay!

Just like Robotech for Macross fans, the majority of Precure fans seem to hate Glitter Force. In fact, many cheered when it was announced that it was to be removed from Netflix, sentencing it to "abandonware" oblivion. However, just like Robotech, there are a decent number of fans who were introduced to Precure (or anime in general!) through it. Similar to Robotech, it's also arguably an interesting historical artifact and so on some level worth preserving.

So despite all that, there is a bit of nostalgia for it even if the Precure fandom generally regarded it as terrible, creating legal issues, and totally botching the franchise's introduction to the west.

What's most strange to me about this whole story though is that an anime getting this kind of treatment would be normal 20+ years ago (i.e. the 4kids era), but this is so recent. This was only 2015, but they went the whole 9 yards with "4kids names", changing many scenes around through edits, cutting many episodes (48 -> 40 episodes), and a totally new soundtrack. I know less about the Doki Doki sequel, but apparently that one got even worse treatment (49 -> 30 episodes!) from Saban, who were obligated to make the series due to a deal with Toei.

Glitter Force wasn't the first Precure dub though. Ocean dubbed the original series, Futari wa Precure, for Canadian YTV. I actually have seen a couple episodes of that one, and it's honestly pretty good? I mean, it's still very localized with the changing of names (Nagisa -> Natalie) and food (e.g. Mepple wanting "chicken noodle soup"), plus other random lines occasionally get a different meaning but it's nothing like, too crazy, and as far as I know nothing is censored/cut.

I really like Nagisa's VA in the dub. She does such a good job, and the way she bickers with Mepple is fantastic. From what I've heard (shout out to Plum🌸Rose!) the OG Precure dub is considered a bit cheesy, but it's really not that bad, especially considering what came later.

From what I can tell, Toei and friends have no interest in further dubbing Precure. It's a pretty niche series in terms of the west, and I'm sure they're doing just fine with their many other massive properties to not feel like they need to make any more inroads.

If this post somehow finds its way to people who have watched Glitter Force or the OG dub, I'm curious to hear your thoughts!

Digimon Tamers: The Card Game Thing Was Genius

Yes, I am still feeling like rambling about Digimon, because my hyperfixation on this has opened up again, and hey, what do I have encyclopedic knowledge of this franchise for, if not to ramble on hours about it?

Back when Digimon Tamers released, a lot of people were butthurt about it. While the fandom in general seems to have come around to the season by now, back in the day a lot of folks hated that it was no longer based in the Digimon Adventure timeline, and more so that Digimon was in fact a fictional franchise in this new world.

And while Digimon Adventure back in the day was welcomed by western fandom as "is this a copy-cat of Pokémon?" (no, it is not, it is just that back at the time Japanese companies had somehow decided that "it is now the time of monster stuff" - given that monster franchises were already a thing before this in terms of games), Digimon Tamers with the Card Game mechanic was welcomed with by: "This is like Yu-Gi-Oh!"

Even though Digimon Tamers is nothing like Yu-Gi-Oh!, given that the characters generally do not really play the card game much on screen, let alone having tournaments as a core aspect of the show.

I think that even today, some people still feel a bit weird about the inclusion of the Card Game, because it was just very obviously merchandising included in the show.

However... I will very much argue that this was a genius move - and is mainly responsible for Digimon Tamers getting the kind of quality writing that it has.

While a lot of western fan got introduced to Digimon as the anime first and foremost, it very much was always a merchandise advertisement in form of an anime. Sure, the stories were always super fun, but the main reason that Bandai financed an anime of this scale was to use it as advertisement for the Digimon merchandise they were releasing.

If you go through interviews (or talk to some of the writers yourself), you will however learn that this lead to a lot of issues. This is a general thing with several Bandai/Toei merchandise franchises (like Ojamajo Doremi or PreCure). Basically the writers were always pushed to give more focus onto the merchandise, bring in new forms for Digimon (to have as merchandise) and new mechanics (for merchandise). As I said, same happened with a lot of the Magical Girls stuff, where basically the same was true.

And ironically... This is very much why the idea to include the Card Game was so genius. Because no, this idea did not come from Bandai or the producers, but from Konaka. And he was very much able to play this out as a trump card (badum-tss) whenever producers tried to get him to adjust the rather dark direction. Because he was like: "Oh, but we have so much direct merchandise tie-ins!" And it worked rather well, from what we can see.

It also protected the season from having additional stuff forced into it for merchandise purposes. And yeah. I am rather glad that this decision was made. Not only because I love card games.

Hot take but MAN I really wished there were more artists or just members in general who did more with the female characters from mcsm, and not just all of them just even a handful would be nice because I’m sorry to say this but aside from like a few of them, I really just do NOT care about the male characters in the slightest and that includes male Jesse (except for yellow suspenders, he’s done nothing wrong) like I’m sorry but even if I were to dissect them under a microscope at the end of the day they’re just, there to me.

But the female cast in the other hand, asides from just hating ONE of them, most of them have SO much potential to be used in stuff like AUs or even Fan Art but for most people to blatantly ignore that is INSANE. I think with my mindset being this way since I am in other fan bases (mostly as an observer) where most fans actually pay attention to the female characters (Genshin, Honkai Star Rail, PreCure, Love Live, Idolmaster, or any media with a large amount of female characters in it) and going here is WHIPLASH LIKE EXCUSE ME?

And to bring up shipping, why is that aside from Jesstra most sapphic ships are blatantly ignored for (I’m sorry to say this) Jesskas, the ship that’s the equivalent of stale bread with a glass of lukewarm tap water, not even filtered and crispy. Like the fandom treats the pairing as the holy grail of “perfect” (by making Lukas blander than saltine crackers because we can’t possibly have his sassiness corrupting the innocent green suspenders Jesse (aka making it actually interesting) oh, no, no, no! Thou shan’t be!) like god forbid y’all see someone Maya and Fem!Jesse, Olivia and Petra, Nell and Emily, Harper and Ellegaard (look I know Harper and Ivor are a thing and love them but Harper x Ellegaard is a thing), hell even het ships like Fem!Jesse x Axel, because it’s not your stale white bread of a ship. Like sorry if my insulting this ship but it’s true and cannot hold back anymore.

But besides that I really wish there was more content of the female characters even if it’s just two others and it doesn’t even have to be serious or canon abiding content! Do silly shit, do shit like idk them at the beach, self insert POV or just in different situations whether it’s just for fun or an AU.

It kinda makes me sad to think that most of the dragon ball fandom apparently hates the kamikaze fireballs (or ribrianne specifically) cuz they are legitimately just if precure existed in the dragon ball universe (or multiverse I guess lol) and despite their rather goofy concept they manage to be strong enough to last a pretty good deal for the duration of the tournament arc (and again, ribrianne especially)

Folks hated the Kamikaze Fireballs? I actually liked them! I was personally stoked about the idea of Magical Girls existing within the DragonBall Universe, considering that both DBZ and Futari Wa share the same director.

And what's wrong with looking goofy? In this day and age, goofiness is what's keeping the darkness at bay! If y'all can accept characters like Monkey D. Luffy ascending to godhood by being silly, then Magical Girls shouldn't be any different!

I still have yet to see a Magical Girl (or any other heroine) to effectively weaponize her weirdness against the enemy. I mean, there's Spinel, but you know how she ended up...

Nagisa/Cure black: your deffo A tomboy STAN u either are very athletic like her or absolutely HATE sports but u find her interesting and fun and u are A sucker for A good “extrovert that’s A bit shy sometimes” u think precure reached peak Main character back in 2004 and u either think everything else is trash or u still enjoy it as it’s the legacy that Nagisa (and Honoka) created u just still very much prefer the original mains (also high likely hood that Honoka is RIGHT next to Nagisa in your rankings)

Saki/Cure Bloom: your probably A Nagisa lover who turned into A saki lover when u watched Splash star while u prob still love Nagisa u feel like they perfected the sporty girl with Saki which honestly fair you also prob LOVE older shows I don’t have A reason just kinda give off the vibe (also like the Nagisa and Honoka one u prob have Mai right next to Saki in your rankings)

Nozomi/Cure dream: U probably relate to her problems ALOT don’t ya? Horrible at school work?,no idea what you truly want to do with your life? Trying to take other people’s goals as your own to help you feel like you’re doing something with your life? Don’t worry your A mood like her and I wish you luck you got this also your might be the 2% of people (in America let’s ingore the Jp fandom) who genuinely like Nozococo (shame on you) or your like a lot of other people and despise it with your very being.

Love/Cure peach: (tbh I was struggling on this one so it’s kinda me reaching with this) you are the biggest lover of characters who has so much faith in one character and is willing to go through absolute hell for them and Love and Setsuna is your fav duo in precure you think Setsuna’s redemption arc is peak fiction you will vouch for this girl to the end of the world and you will make sure everyone hears

Tsubomi/Cure blossom: you have A anxiety disorder don’t you? You love yourself A good “shy girl become cool as fuck” character arc but you also love how she still keeps her compassion for others but knows when to step her foot to the ground everytime she gets someone to listen to her instead of treating her like A doormat you will go rabid and while the classic energetic spunky girl may be cool you appreciate Precure making A shy girl A main character (u prob feel seen don’t ya?) also you are in the Tsubomi and Miyuki split and I will explain in Miyuki’s portion

Hibiki/Cure Melody: if you hear someone say Splash star is the most forgotten season of precure your prob gonna snap I’m guessing u just want to yap about it but so much of the time someone getting into Precure forget it exists you want them to see how fun the show it but they always find something else to watch and it makes you wanna scream (totally not based on one of my moots who is A suite lover)

Miyuki/Cure Happy: here we encounter the Tsubomi and Miyuki path split where you either are A shy girl who constantly gets spoken over and not acknowledged by people outside of your close friends (Tsubomi path) or u pretend to be confident to mask how your truely feel (aka Miyuki) if you are shy person who loves shy characters u are either one of these two

(Adding another paragraph for Miyuki cause I hardly talked about Miyuki herself) to you she such A silly little gal you are one of the many people who would fist fight for this girl she brings your ultra happy in A way no other character could and you prob rewatch smile like A addict when your even slightly sad

Mana/Cure heart: You will defend her from the Mary sue allegations WITH YOUR LIFE you love yourself A magical girl MC that’s is able to handle herself she is isn’t clumsy if she wants or needs something she gonna get it and you know she will she may be brash but she can back it up with sheer competence and even when she struggles you respect her for being able to pull herself together and say “welp it was nice cry anyway let’s kick his ass!”

Megumi/Cure Lovely; in the trenches defending happiness charge most overhated season by far to you able to see the the gem in this show and Megumi despite being A lead that tends to be on the lower end of people fav mcs you will love till the end of time and you were prob screaming at the top of your lungs with her final transformation in the last episode (another hard one since I don’t have much thoughts on her but genuine respect to people who love her)

“Oh no. I’m out of time!”

“*phew* At least we won’t have to deal with her pushing anymore.”

~ When the battle concluded, you all went to find Aguri. Of course, when you did, she started scolding you for not being fast enough. That was it for you. You began yelling at her, angry at how she made everyone stressed out because of her own problem.

“You guys were too slow! Because of you, I ran out of time!”

“Oh, shut up Aguri! Have you ever considered that you’re the one showing us down?”

“Excuse me?!”

“You’re always rushing us, and making us stressed out because of your weakness! You may only have five minutes to be a Pretty Cure, but we have more! We can handle the rest ourselves! You don’t need to make your weakness everyone else’s problem!”

~ Mana, hating conflict, tried to put herself between the two of you. But that just made you start scolding her as well. You told her it wasn’t okay for Aguri to act like that, and that she shouldn’t let it slide.

“Hey (name), please calm down!”

“No Mana! You always let her behave like this, and it’s not okay! I know you don’t like conflict, but that doesn’t mean ignoring problems!”

“*sigh*”

~ Fortunately for you, Mana gave up. She knew you were right, so she stopped trying to defend her. She still doesn’t believe that fighting is the answer, but she knows that being gentle isn’t always either.

“How long do you think they’ll be?”

“Knowing Aguri, it might be a while.”

“But knowing (name), they might actually get Aguri to stop being so bossy.”

~ All you wanted to do was have fun with your friends at the mall. And while you did sort of consider Aguri to be your friend, she could be pretty unbearable sometimes. Especially since she felt the need to be overly critical of every little thing everyone did.

“Ugh, can you walk faster (name)? You’re slowing everyone down.”

“Who’s ‘everyone’? We’re all behind you.”

“Yeah, you’re walking too fast.”

~ You passed by a small toy store, and a cute plushie caught your eye. You expressed how you might want to buy it, and Aguri said that you’re too old for toys, and that you should grow up. She had completely rained on your parade, so you lashed out at her.

“Oh my gosh, who cares? I can like whatever I want!”

“I mean, I guess. I just think you need to like more grown up things.”

“You’re never too old for cute things! You’re just being judgy!”

~ Rikka was happy to join in. She defended you, saying that Aguri had no right to judge other people’s interests. She even admitted to liking cute things too, even owning many frog themed items in her bedroom.

“They’re right. People can like whatever they want, no matter their age. I collect cute things too.”

“Really? You? I thought you were the mature one.”

“Did you not hear a word I just said? Age doesn’t matter. Everyone can like cute things!”

~ Aguri eventually apologized, though obviously annoyed. Afterwards, Rikka took you into the store, and stayed with you while you bought the plush. She even picked out a little frog plush for herself, so you wouldn’t feel alone.

“Thanks Rikka.”

“It’s no problem. Aguri really pushes my buttons sometimes. Oh, this little frog is cute!”

“Aww, yeah! You should get it.”

“I think I will. It’ll look really nice under my frog lamp.”

“You have a frog lamp?”

“Yeah…”

~ Alice usually pays Aguri’s attitude no mind. You, on the other hand, couldn’t. Everyone was having tea at Alice’s mansion, and Sebastian, her butler, prepared not just the tea itself, but also the sweets. They were really good, despite them being a tad burnt. He tried insisting to make new ones, but everyone said they were fine.

“I’m perfectly alright with preparing new ones.”

“Oh no, it’s okay! They’re great! I wouldn’t even notice they were burnt if you didn’t tell me.”

“You’re too kind, Mx. (last name).”

~ Despite this, Aguri couldn’t help being overly critical, as usual. You thought that other than being a bit crispy, it was almost unnoticeable that the sweets were a bit burnt. But apparently, Aguri had super-tastebuds, because she kept making jabs about them tasting odd. While Sebastian’s face remained stoic, you knew it was getting to him, so you scolded her.

“Oh my gosh, calm down Aguri. It’s not a big deal. They still taste good, so stop complaining.”

“I’m just giving my criticism.”

“I know, but you already have many times in the last five minutes. We get it!”

~ You let her know that the sweets were wonderful, and that she was just being picky. You fully expected Alice to try and calm you down, like she usually does. But instead, she calmly added that Aguri should just be grateful for what she got.

“I agree with (name). You’ve already stated your opinion once. I believe that’s enough.”

“Right? Now leave poor Sebastian alone.”

“Hmph…”

~ After that, Aguri kept her mouth shut for the rest of the tea party, and ate the sweets without any fuss. As you were leaving, Alice pulled you aside to her kitchen, where Sebastian had prepared special sweets just for you as a way of thanking you. Alice thanked you as well for showing respect for him.

“Thank you, Mx. (last name), for being so kind. Please take these.”

“Oh no, I couldn’t.”

“Please, go ahead. Your respect for me has heightened my respect for you even further.”

~ When you’re a teenager, voice cracks are pretty much unavoidable. Even when you’re an idol, which is the case for Makoto. Even though she warmed up her voice plenty before going on stage, a small crack was heard. Of course, she kept singing, ignoring her small mistake like the professional she is. However, Aguri couldn’t do the same.

“Oh wow. Did you hear that? Her voice cracked.”

“Okay? It’s not a big deal.”

“Do you think she warmed up enough?”

“I’m sure she did. Sometimes things like that are unavoidable.”

~ After the show, everyone went back stage to congratulate Makoto on her performance. But, of course, Aguri couldn’t resist pointing out the tiny flaw. Makoto brushed it off, saying it just happens, and she’ll try harder next time. But Aguri kept on teasing.

“I’m sure everyone will be talking about it on social media.”

“Yes, I’m sure they will. That’s just what comes with being an idol.”

“Yeah. If I were you, I’d spend more time warming up.”

~ You eventually told her to shut up, and that it wasn’t a big deal. You also said that Makoto already deals with enough criticism, and is aware of her mistakes, so she doesn’t need to hear any from her friends. Makoto became flustered, and tried telling you it was fine, but you continued.

“I’d like to see you try to go on stage and perform. Then maybe you’ll appreciate the time and effort Makoto puts into her job.”

“(name), it’s okay.”

~ Aguri eventually apologized, and left. Makoto thanked you, but said you didn’t need to do that for her. You let her know that Aguri was being unnecessarily mean about it, and that she doesn’t need hate from her own friends. Makoto just blushed, and thanked you again.

“You didn’t need to do that, (name).”

“I know. But I could tell you were already stressed and tired. So Aguri really needed to shut up and leave you alone.”

New review from Lilith Fairen where I really begin to wonder if she has reading comprehension so poor that I should feel guilty for being harsh to someone with a mental disability. The lack of fundamental comprehension is that bad.

Either that or she does this on purpose because like CanonSeeker, she thinks that "criticizing the critics" aka bullying, is a sane thing to do.

But of course Lilith doesn't comprehend the first thing about criticism because it has to come from some sort of intellectual place. But she doesn't do that. She's just hating because she hates Celtic Phoenix/Raymond, and not for anything that he's done, but because he's a fan of a show she dislikes: Madoka Magica. She is peak petty and childish.

Where as most so-called "capital C Critics" and "RWDE" are genuine fans of RWBY and look at it through this lens of being a fan, Lilith is not a fan of FRWBY. She doesn't understand the point of it, doesn't comprehend it. It's rather sad considering she's a writer and should know how writing works, and that it can involve editing. Someone who is more artistically inclined takes their criticism to an artistic level, but she doesn't understand this.

Anyway, by now it's clear that I'm not really responding to Lilith or any of her pathetic ilk because they're going to keep doing this no matter what. My goal isn't to communicate with those who have gouged out their ears in order to keep hating. My goal is to make sure anyone who talks about Fixing RWBY and becomes curious about it will see how Lilith and people like her twist things around to lie about a fan project done out of passion, telling people its done out of spite because people like her cannot stand it when people are more successful and popular than her. Especially if it's a man, doubly so a Madoka Magica fan.

You have an illness. You are mentally obligated to make yourself unhappy. Dislike FRWBY all you want, but no one is holding a gun to your head and forcing you to watch a fan video. Having gone through all the saved logs of your previous tumblr, I know for a fact that you have a visceral need to be unhappy. You can't help yourself. Seek therapy or at the very least unplug your internet. Go outside, breathe some fresh air. The internet has obviously not been good for you.

Mistral is canonically meant to be based on Asia. How dare the worldbuilding actually reflect that. No, it should be more Western or else you're fetishizing. Because erasing other cultures from existence for no reason is totally a logical route to take, right? Absolutely bonkers insane fucking logic. This woman is stupid or racist. Pick your poison.

Also keep in mind the only fandom Lilith regularly partakes in is still a Japanese anime. It's fundamentally Asian. All the characters are Japanese and they likely partake in Japanese culture. You write stories based on these characters I guess you're automatically "fetishizing" Asian culture. That is Lilith's twisted ass logic.

Lilith wouldn't know what a good reason was if it slapped her in the face and stole all of her possessions.

Plot isn't the only important thing to the story, and as a writer I'd HOPE that Lilith knows this, but unfortunately it seems not. That doesn't bode well for her story, which I've been struggling to get past the first twenty or so paragraphs.

Essentially what she's complaining about is the fact that characters take some time to actually be people. We get time for the characters to breathe, but more importantly for character relationships and dynamics to be established, enforced, reinforced and enhanced. But no, it's not plot, so it's not important. No wonder she likes the canon show, which neglects this. If she does this with Glints Saga as well, I can't see many people actually caring about the characters or the romance she's so interested in writing for in the first story. Then again, I'm sure she's perfectly fine with it if it's in something like Precure. Though she only seems to like a la mode.

Look at how the logic here doesn't follow. The girls are aided a little bit by their companions which means they aren't protagonists.

Apparently according to Lilith a protagonist is someone who doesn't get assistance from anyone ever, who doesn't interact with anyone. Effectively what Lilith wants is a mary sue protagonist, which canon RWBY never was nor will Fixing RWBY Team RWBY ever be. Plus the girls in canon get help from other characters all the time, and rarely do anything for themselves unless Jaune brings up an idea first and if they do it's after sitting around a whole lot and the only thing they manage to accomplish is getting a lot of things destroyed and people killed.

Raymond also hates the female protagonists so much that he makes them more active characters in their own story than canon. Because he hates them. Makes perfect sense.

Lilith once again showing she knows nothing about anything. Changing the location of a scene from a train station to a festival and expanding upon it isn't padding. Unless Lilith is actually a critic after all. She's using Fixing RWBY as a way to critique the canon show but hide it behind the guise of hating on a "critic" so she doesn't lose her friend group. Because heck knows she doesn't have friends anywhere else from the look of it.

She doesn't understand what padding is in a story. Padding is useless fluff that adds nothing to a story. If there are important character dynamics going on, and worldbuilding being shown through the setting, it's not padding. Simple as.

Raymond's writing of Madoka fanfiction has nothing to do with this. Lilith is trying to label Raymond a pedophile, I suppose, which is incredibly cunty behaviour. Salem is canonically 16 during the setting of The Lost Fables and yet her design makes her look like she'd fit in with the cast of Grease. Making a 16 year old actually LOOK like a 16 year old isn't gross, Lilith. Grow the fuck up, I implore you.

This is what happens when you only scroll through the video. Neo, Ruby, Yang, Weiss, Roman and Qrow are all framing devices. Neo just happened to be the first one, followed by Yang. But she wouldn't know that because she doesn't pay attention. Her goal, despite calling Fixing RWBY a "spitefic" is to act spiteful and to lie and be a massive bitch in service of defending a show that she barely cares about and likely wouldn't if it hadn't been for hearing through the grapevine that RWBY had a massive "hatedom".

Also really telling how obsessed Lilith is with the idea of subservience. I'd think she's projecting quite a bit. Just like how obsessed she is with complaining about Fixing's Shiloh or Roman. Raymond lives in her head rent free.

Ahh. So she does know that Neo isn't the only framing device used. Love that she implied that but then had to admit that's not true. It didn't even take her a full paragraph to admit she lied.

You can dislike the framing device all you want, but it's more engaging than what canon did. It also wasn't pointless, and her saying that it was doesn't make it true. The point of it was to show that these are stories that the girls know, possibly modified over the millennia, to show that these stories are all interconnected. These are fairy tales of Remnant, but also those fairy tales weren't the whole truth. Lilith can't comprehend anything unless it's directly spelled out to her, and she admits it by calling it confusing. If it requires her to rev up a braincell, it's too confusing. Just sit back and consume product, that's how you watch RWBY, this is bad because it makes you think!

Yes, I repeat, a child didn't look like a child. It's like those really cheap 80's movies where a 14 year old is played by a 38 year old. Yes, I totally believe you're a high school student, sir.

It's apparently wrong to want Salem to look as old as Ruby was during volume 1. Because she looks like she's 30. She looks no different than she is now when you take off the special effects. She looked no different in age than when she had children, which is unfortunate.

Like what does she want? This isn't an AU or a full rewrite. It's a reconstruction project with the goal in mind to show how RWBY could be a lot better with a couple of little tweaks and changes. Like I said earlier, what Raymond is doing is essentially developmental editing. He's not the author so he's not going to do any major changes to the story. Ozpin still has a host at the end of the day. Vernal was still a little servant of Raven and died. These preserve the overall plot beats of the stories while being different, but there's nothing that fundamentally changes by design. That's on purpose.

There's a difference between hating or being frustrated with aspects of a show and hating the entire thing. Raymond falls into the former camp. He likes RWBY. Doesn't mean he can't have problems with it. That's too much for some people's little pea brains to understand and that's very unfortunate. It creates unnecessary division and toxicity in the fandom than there should or really needs to be.

Some people have this revulsion to others actually wanting to engage with their fandoms in ways those people don't like and have this sense of entitlement to the fandom and what goes on in them. It's a disturbing trend, especially with those that have a problem with discourse and critique. Some think that any kind of fandom engagement that isn't wholly, unquestioningly positive is automatically hate and that's disturbing.

It's really not. Raymond has only watched the first episode and he disliked it, though couldn't put his finger on why. This has nothing to do with that spinoff, and I have no idea why Lilith would think that. The episode was recontextualizing a bunch of fairy tales in Remnant's world that everyone would have known.

Raymond has said a few times that he doesn't want to touch Fairy Tales of Remnant because he has no interest in it at all, so there would be no sense for him to do it in episodes 6&7 of all things.

It's commendable that Lilith is trying very hard to use that dusty old thing in her head, but she's still got a ways to go. Her logic doesn't follow, the speculation that she has doesn't come from anywhere and has no follow through.

She loves repeating herself, doesn't she? Girl, this isn't twitter. Saying things over and over and over doesn't make it more true.

Also can't say that I've really come across anyone except for Lilith who says it's disorienting, which leads me to the conclusion that until further evidence of someone who isn't an "anti-Critic" says the framing device was confusing, that it's said deliberately to have something to complain about, because otherwise, there would be nothing to complain about. She's already struggling so much with this review because she knows it wasn't that bad so she has to look for things. I am so happy that Lilith is so boringly predictable that I said hours before her 'review' came out that she was going to focus on Neo being the first in line for the framing of the story.

What's telling about it, Lilith? The point of words is to actually have meaning behind what is being said.

She says the emphasis isn't on Team RWBY, but they take up the majority of the transitions.

Neo to Young Yang, Adult Yang to Young Blake to Adult Blake, Young Weiss to Adult Weiss, Young Ruby to Adult Ruby to Teen Qrow to Adult Qrow then finally to Young Roman. So she's not even correct that Qrow ends the section. Neo and Roman bookend the segment, but the meat of the segment is taken up by Team RWBY+Q.

Now, could he have started with a member of Team RWBY? Sure, definitely. But if you look at the bolded names you'll notice a pattern.

The bookends get the first and last, but the middle portions get double focus. It balances out.

Only Ruby's weapon is damaged, but it's presumed to still be able to fight in gun form. She just cannot transform it into a scythe. He said nothing about Blake's weapon, Yang's weapon, Weiss' weapon or any other weapon. Not only are none of the other characters are impacted due to their weapons. Yang and Neo are injured. Blake, Weiss and even Ruby are still readying to fight.

Also really ironic she's so bent out of shape that she thinks FRWBY doesn't have the main characters do anything when canon doesn't allow them to do much, either. Why aren't you complaining about that, Lil? Could it be that she doesn't actually care? She just has such a hateboner for Raymond because he likes Madoka.

Raymond has never insisted that everything about RWBY is 'horrible and terrible'. It's heavily flawed, and frustratingly so. Raymond has consistently been the more positive person of his reaction friend group over the years, often saying he likes many things of the show. But Lilith doesn't know this because unlike me, who tried to understand Lilith before speaking about her, she's only seen his skits and videos specifically for Fixing RWBY. She knows nothing about him, and thinks nothing of trying to pin every terrible thing she can think of onto him, from pedophile to racist.

Lilith doesn't understand the concept of deep editing. Not anything beyond the basics of spelling, grammar and maybe attempting to change a few minor points around. Comparing the beginning to her older draft of Glints Saga: Papillon to her newer version, she doesn't do much significant to change it.

Don't get me wrong, it's BETTER than the older version, but that's not saying much. Lilith is too precious with her story to do something like what Raymond is doing: a developmental edit, a large edit that might change a lot of things but make the overall story better.

Yang is trying to stave off hypothermia with Neo. She can probably move, but it wouldn't be the best thing for her. But like I said above, Yang's weapons are not damaged.

I think this is actually a fair criticism, and one I've seen a little bit with other people. To each their own, really. It's not like RWBY didn't try and do the same thing with Volume 1 and the whole background NPCs, keeping the events isolated to a small group of important characters. What Raymond is doing here is cutting out background characters that don't need to be there and can be filled with other ones, ones that can lead to better character dynamics and interactions than if they were strangers. Some people are going to like that, and some people won't, and that's fine. It's certainly not unique to FRWBY and no one else complains when coincidences for story happen in any other franchise, though. So it's a little eyerolling when it's suddenly a problem because a fan did it for a fixit fic.

Do old ladies have a stereotype of being curious? Maria didn't wander into the middle of a battle zone during her first introduction in canon, either, so what's your point? The whole train was being attacked so it wouldn't matter where she'd go she'd still be in the middle of a battle zone. We know from context that she's a former huntress but it makes no sense otherwise why she'd wander in other than to have a contrivance that she's there, which makes the contrivance more noticeable. We don't even learn that she can still fight until late into the Atlas arc.

At least with Fixing RWBY's new introduction of Maria, she is shown off the bat to be a capable fighter and we know right away that she likely came to the area to help fight. That makes the contrivance more understandable as a reason why she'd be there. She's a character that got a lot of focus in canon even if she just walked past the camera because she has a highly unique character design, so it's not a secret she's going to be important, and some people even rightly pointed out she was likely a silver-eyed warrior due to how they framed the opening to the anime.

The characters don't trust Roman. Blake certainly doesn't. But they acknowledge he's in this with them for better or worse and now they're all stranded together, so there wouldn't be any point in lying to everyone.

Yang is not someone I would call 'mature' in canon. Being an angry little sourpuss when things don't go her way or someone challenges them is not what anyone would consider mature.

It's also not that Yang is unwilling to give Blake a chance, either. She hasn't completely forgiven Blake for what she'd done, and Yang is under no obligations to forgive her, either. Forgiving someone has nothing to do with maturity, and the fact that this seems to imply you think so is unsettling. It means that someone cannot have feelings about something traumatic that happened, and the more 'adult' thing to do would be to just get over it. Things like this don't resolve overnight. They take time, and before Yang and Blake can become a proper couple, they need to properly work things out, not sidestep the issue and pretend like nothing's wrong until there might be, then step on eggshells around each other, wondering if the other is mad at them for no reason.

I don't think Adam gave a shit about being detected. It's not like he was trying to ninja his way through the train car. It also wasn't just Cardin he had to deal with, but Qrow and Russel at the same time. I honestly don't remember whether Cardin was a competent fighter in canon, but we know he was at least tactical and not an idiot. So 'the likes of Cardin' only means someone thinks he's an incompetent fighter because he's a bully. But Cardin in Fixing isn't like Cardin in canon. He was more competent in the scenes where he fought and he likely became stronger during aftermath of Beacon.
