The Canadian jazz singer Kellylee Evans is an experienced vocalist. She can reach high notes with ease and her improvisation skills are excellent. She sings jazz, but can venture in soul, pop, and hip-hop. The songwriter won a Juno Award in 2011.
What I enjoy the most is her crafted rendition of Nina Simone’s work. She made an all album called « Nina ». She added her own classy way of singing and I enjoy it very well. In addition, I like her album “Greenlight”. Her song “Holding you” has a beautiful trumpet. She has known internationally and opened stars like George Benson.

The 2024 Juno Awards, Canada's prestigious music awards ceremony, witnessed a powerful moment of advocacy as Elliot Page, star of the hit series "The Umbrella Academy," used his platform to denounce the alarming rollback of LGBTQ2+ rights across the globe. A Voice for Change: Elliot Page Takes the Stage Presenting the Humanitarian Award to Canadian pop duo Tegan and Sara at the ceremony held in his hometown of Halifax, Nova Scotia, Page delivered a poignant speech highlighting the current threats faced by the LGBTQ2+ community. "We are at a time in history where the rights of LGBTQ2+ people are being revoked, restricted, and eliminated throughout the world, and the effects are devastating," Page declared. He then commended the work of Tegan and Sara Foundation, emphasizing their dedication to supporting and advocating for social change on behalf of transgender and queer youth. This powerful statement resonated deeply with the audience, particularly in light of recent legislative proposals in Canada aimed at restricting access to healthcare for transgender individuals. Standing Together: Tegan and Sara Quin Echo the Message Following Page's address, Tegan Quin, one-half of the award-winning duo Tegan and Sara, expressed her solidarity with the LGBTQ2+ community. "If the world was not so hostile to LGBTQ2+ people, we would see ourselves purely as musicians," she asserted, addressing the Junos audience. Quin further criticized the province of Alberta's proposed healthcare restrictions for transgender youth, specifically highlighting the proposed ban on hormone therapy for individuals under 15. "Advocating for our community's rights is a great privilege and we are dedicated to confronting any form of discrimination that threatens the well-being of our community," Quin continued, her voice brimming with determination. As she spoke, her sister Tegan and Page stood by her side, a potent symbol of unity and unwavering support. Juno Awards Celebrate Music and Achievement While the Juno Awards evening provided a platform for social commentary, it also served its primary purpose of recognizing and celebrating excellence in Canadian music. Charlotte Cardin emerged as a major winner, taking home the coveted Album of the Year award for her critically acclaimed project "99 Nights." Cardin, a rising star in the Canadian music scene, had previously swept the 2022 Junos, securing four trophies including Best Artist. Other notable winners included Nicholas Durocher, known by his artistic persona "Talk," who received the Breakthrough Artist of the Year award. Music legend Anne Murray, who graced the very first Juno Awards ceremony in 1970, made a special appearance to present the Group of the Year award to The Beaches, a celebrated all-female indie rock band from Toronto. Fan Favorites and Hall of Fame Recognition The Juno Fan Choice Award, voted on by the public, saw Punjabi pop sensation Karan Aujla claim victory. The ceremony also witnessed an emotional highlight as Maestro Fresh-Wes, a pioneering Canadian hip-hop artist with a five-decade career, was inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame. Wesley Williams, the man behind the musical persona Maestro Fresh-Wes, has enjoyed a multifaceted career that extends beyond music, encompassing television acting credits in shows like "The Listener," "The Transporter," and "Mr. D." A Night of Triumphs Across Genres The Juno Awards ceremony wasn't just about high-profile wins. Saturday's pre-televised awards show saw Calgary's rising pop star Tate McRae bag two Junos for Best Artist and Best Single of the Year for her hit song "Greedy." Tobi, another prominent voice in Canadian music, secured two awards – Best Rap Single and Best Rap Album. Aysanabee, a gifted songwriter and musical talent, added two trophies to her collection – Best Songwriter and Best Alternative Album. A Night of Advocacy and Artistic Accolades The 2024 Juno Awards were more than just a celebration of music. Elliot Page's powerful message served as a stark reminder of the challenges faced by the LGBTQ2+ community. Tegan and Sara Quin's words echoed Page's sentiments, highlighting the importance of fighting for equality. While the fight for LGBTQ2+ rights continues, the Junos provided a platform for crucial voices to be heard. The night also celebrated exceptional achievements across diverse musical genres, solidifying the Juno Awards' position as a premier event in the Canadian music industry. BARBRA, THE HEALER
Barbra Lica has a beautiful voice. She can sing every genres and I invite to try her songs; you will appreciate her delivery.
This Canadian jazz singer released her first album “That’s What I Do” in 2012. She caught my attention with her second album “Kissing You” (2015). Every album of hers is a gem. I really enjoy the most recent called “Imposter Syndrome” (2022). The song “Take care of you” is well delivered. Barbra Lica has a melodious voice. Her vocal cords keep her on top of the melody at all times.
Her songs can borrow to country music or reggae, it doesn’t really matter. It’s still a Barbra Lica song. There’s a singular way she carries notes, and you get transported quickly to a words of emotions, from heartbreaks to the joy of living. She can be funny too like in “Sour Women” or “Girls Like Me” but always with a relevant message.
Barbra Lica can sing classics like in her first album. She gives her rendition of “But not for me” by George Gershwin. She does it with ease and maestro. Her musicians swing on it and when she comes back, she takes control again effortlessly.
I would suggest the funky piece called “London Town” from the album “I’m still learning” (2016). You’ll see this singer has a wide range but it’s not really something she wants you to notice. She’s more a singer who wants to give you something to make you feel good, a real healer.
I hope you’ll check her work. #barbralica #barbralicaquintet #jazzsinger #jazzmusic #canada🇨🇦 #junoawards
