I see people ship their characters with Daedric Princes, or at least simp and/or thirst very hard for them coughNocturnalcough but like what about the Aedra? The Divines? Yeah, no one wants to ship their character with Talos. I understand. But there are other options! Dibella-shaped options! And Stendarr, okay? I like Stendarr. And Arkay. And I know you all love Kyne/Kynareth, don't lie!

I was thinking about how Ancestor Moths are required for the reading of Elder Scrolls and this whole process and the priests who do it are linked to Julianos. But Julianos is a syncretic form of Jhunal whose totem is the Owl while the Moth is linked instead to Dibella.
We can think about the information in the Elder Scrolls as like “Raw data” that’s too computerized for any mortal mind to comprehend. It’s the “coding” of Nirn aka the “Damned Equation” that Julianos “incanted”. So, how do mortals go about understanding the abstract and divine? They filter it through art.
Dibella’s totem is utilized to turn all of that existential gibberish into an understandable picture and/or narrative. She creates a Graphical User Interface instead of just throwing binary at you.
Maybe that’s why reading the scrolls so much leaves you blind. Excessive beauty has been linked to leaving mortal sight impaired before: Moonshadow is said to be so beautiful that it leaves mortals half-blind (We won’t get into the Azura/Dibella links rn). What could be more beautiful than a picture painted by the goddess of beauty herself?
And maybe this all is Dibella’s hand in creation as a whole? Someone else wrote the plot, but she’s the illustrator.

What happens to past faces of Aedra and Daedra when they are replaced?
Ignore for a second that time does not work the same way outside Mundus
Instead imagine that an entirely new divine takes their place, cannibalizing their power from the old incarnation, letting it starve and wither.
Think of the Nordic rune god Jhunal, divine of Hermetic orders and wisdom. Discarded by the Nords for the relation to Herma Mora, the second known and more violent incarnation of the knowledge demon.
Does his spirit still battle this incarnation of the daedric lord?? Does he still answer prayers from sundered shrines? Is he angry? Mournful of his identity lost? Mournful for his time with the title and authority when the world was young?
Or are reimagined gods frozen in time? Unaware of the change, discarded like a dead skin, did it hurt? did they know it was happening? What could it have felt like as he watched from his domain, the mortals, who had slowly turned against him, spoke a new god into existence under Alysia's' name?
Or maybe they die.
Maybe Jhunal is dead, the woodland man won, the owl god now a corpse locked away in the eldrich halls of Apocrapha under an infinite ocean, does his bones yearn for the open sky a suffocating depth away? Does he yearn for rest? Is there peace in the frozen wasteland of Atmora for a dead god? Can the stillness of a dead home-land be peaceful? Does the woodland man wait for him there now? Can two discarded corpses find meaning in eachother, or do they rest for eternity in the wasteland?
Yet what marvels are lost with his passing. What was it like to influence the first Nordic clever men? Help hone their sorcery into enchanted stahlrim and massive city building ability. What was the first encounter with the woodland man like? Did they shape eachother? How did the Rune god earn his name, was it through existing Atmoran rune systems carved by his own hand? or was it taken from the snow elves and adopted in conquest?
Needless to say..
TREAT. All. INCARNATIONS. OF. AEDRA. AND. DEADRA. LIKE. DYNANIC. CHARACTERS. ITS. SO. MUCH. FUN !!!!

'He doesn't belong in the Legion, much less in command. There's no way an Argonian is so cold-blooded that they can be okay with subjugating their own kind. Because that is what the Fourth Legion is here for. Mark my words, he's going to lure us into a trap and he'll be the only survivor by some 'miracle'. Julianos judge him if he does.'
— Legionnaire Kellan Sextus, when asked about Alesander's posting in Blackwood.

The main difference between Julianos and Mora is that Julianos is the god of sharing knowledge whereas Mora is the god of hoarding knowledge
Julianos is the teacher, the sage, the pioneer of invention. Mora is the hermit that burns all the books so no one can read them, the one who puts research papers behind a paywall, and the one who guards the secret cola recipe

“They say if you are lost and see a white owl to follow; it may just be Julianos guiding you home”
I always hated how the aedra and some daedra were just…..humans. Spurred on by Epic The Musical, decided to finally do what I’ve been planning; redesigning the aedra.
Julianos, a humanoid owl with a human face. This come from his original depiction, Jhunal, having heavy ties into owls. The colors of his clothes come from the different classes of magic, due to being the kind of patron of magic.
Then of course just putting triangles where I can lol-
Zenithar or Arkay is probably next. The aedra are my main priority for this, but I’ll get to the daedra as well as other deities later.
Edit click for better quality, please-

hi hello i have a question. i came up with a theory last night while playing skyrim. how possible would it be for Julianos and Jyggalag to be either the same being or different aspects of the same being?
for context, my thought process went: i'm playing a quest mod called identity crisis, it's about Sheogorath, takes place in an asylum of Julianos. enter the building, Sheo starts talking and some other guy does to.
Identity Crisis + Sheo = brain goes to Jyggalag. BUT its in an asylum of Julianos. find a book (possibly from one of the book mods i have) about the different faiths of Tamriel. read book because i don't remember this one and i need to read everything.
"Julianos is the god of wisdom and logic"
i go "hey. logic and order go hand in hand usually, right?? huh. how weird would it be if Jyggalag and Julianos were the same person with different names? huh"
apologies for rambling a bit but i can't stop turning this idea over in my head and when i tried explaining it to my sister, she didn't mean really get what i was talking about. thoughts?
Hi! I'm so sorry this took me a while to get to. You're asking a great question and I wanted to answer it right.
First: that sounds like an interesting mod! I haven't looked it up, but it's interesting to me that it takes place in an asylum of Julianos. That doesn't quite make sense to me unless the asylum falls under Julianos's sphere as god of law.
Your Julianos/Jyggalag dilemma sounds like a fun theory to toy with. Perhaps they mirror each other, the light and dark sides of order. But I don't think they could be the same individual. To my knowledge, there's nothing in the lore to support it. That doesn't mean it can't be your own personal headcanon — it just wouldn't be one many might share. It could be a fun exercise in contrasting like spheres between the Aedra and Daedra.
If anyone has any additional thoughts to add, please feel free!
Again, I'm sorry this took me so long to get it. I let other things get in the way of keeping up with my ask box, even other asks.

My "big project" today was creating this Skyrim enchanting board! UESP has a ton of Elder Scrolls images that make wonderful references for artists. .... And for semi-artistic potatoes like me. 😜
I also enchanted it! ... To.... Y'know... To help me enchant things. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
And guess what? It works! How do I know? Because I also enchanted the Amulet of Julianos that my brother made for me as moral support when I was getting my master's degree 3 years ago! I enchanted it to.... y'know... help me do magic things. 😂😆
I honestly love the way that the colors turned out on this one. It isn't the game-accurate colors, but I don't care because I enjoy thinking that this is what an enchanting table might look like in a random eccentric Telvanni wizard's mushroom tower.
And I know that the symbols for the Nine Divines turned out a little rough, but hey, it's the spirit of it that counts, and plus we've already established that I'm a semi-artistic potato and therefore I get a little leeway, heh heh. Plus, they don't look half bad for something that I completely did not plan! (Sometimes the Awen and the spirits take us to unexpected places, amirite?)
For those who haven't obsessively explored the Elder Scrolls games like I have:
The symbols on the board, starting at the top and going clockwise, represent Restoration, Illusion, Destruction, Conjuration, and Alteration (subtypes of magic). The center symbol represents magic overall. The symbols on the left side, top to bottom, represent the following in-game entities: Akatosh (time), Julianos (knowledge & wisdom), Arkay (life & death), and Kynareth (wind). The ones on the right side are: Dibella (romance & beauty), Mara (love & family), Stendarr (mercy & justice), Zenithar (hard work & prosperity), and Talos (storms & power).

ideas for the worship of Julianos
Julianos is the Aedric god of Wisdom, Logic and Magic. He is associated with the realms of literature, law, history, education and contradiction. He is one of the Divines worshipped by the Empire.
In the Nord pantheon, he was known as Jhunal, who presided over many of the same realms as Julianos. According to some stories, he fell out with the Nord pantheon and left it to become Julianos. For this post I will be using elements from both deities as they cold be considered one and the same, however you may also choose to intepret them as two different deities.
Julianos is often portrayed as an old man with long hair and a beard. His shrines also take the form of a pyramid and his temples often serve as places of education. In the Ten Commands he says: "Know the truth. Observe the law. When in doubt, seek wisdom from the wise." (UESP, link)

Julianos, Aedric God of Wisdom and Logic
The Divines do not often take mortal form, but on the rare occasion it happens, Wisdom and Logic coalesce into the Blue Witch, Julia Nos
"Know the Truth. When in doubt, seek Wisdom from the Wise" - Nine Commands of the Eight Divines
Tumblr media
Cleverness is knowing that skimpy armoured women attract likes and hone different art skills. Wisdom, which Julia Nos values, is knowing that those outfits are really cold and dressing down can be just as good.
