well, my boyfriend's in a band. -> e.roundtree
Tumblr media
WARNINGS: maybe some profanities
SYNOPSIS: Nobody thinks the thing between you and Eddie can be as pure and real as you say it is. word count: 1,323
NOTES: written for this request!
A lot of people talked about you and Eddie, now that you were publicly together, but none of them knew what they were saying. They spun the story like it was as old as time, unchangeable, inevitable, as sure a disaster as whatever or whoever they were comparing you to in the moment. Him, a rockstar, high on the enormous tide of fame and cocaine, a man who could have anything in the world at the snap of his fingers. You, a couple of years younger, elusive writer from the Los Angeles scene, enigmatic partier– naïve, obviously getting taken for a ride.
It never occurred to any of them that a man like Eddie Roundtree could be truly, inescapably gone for you. Why devote yourself to one girl when you could have as many as you wanted at any time? People had been asking that question about Billy Dunne for the Six’s entire career, and they couldn’t believe another band member was making the same ‘mistake’. Fame should mean freedom. As if getting to give your all to someone and receive their all in return wasn’t a kind of freedom in of itself.
Let them talk. What difference did it make to you?
When you stepped onto the tour bus, the afterparty was already in full swing. You hadn’t been able to catch the show because your flight had gotten in too late, but it didn’t matter; you’d be joining Eddie on tour for the next few months, so you had plenty of shows in your future. All you cared about was getting to your man. You located him sitting on the far corner of the couch, squished in with Graham and Warren and Warren’s girl of the night. You had spotted him before he spotted you, and you took a moment to take in the face you hadn’t been able to see since the tour started. His warm brown eyes crinkled in laughter, the sweep of his burnt sugar hair over his forehead. He was so beautiful it made your breath catch every time you allowed yourself to drink him in like that.
“(y/n)!” Warren shouted, being the one to notice you first in the fray of the party, pointing to you with one long finger as if the shout wasn’t enough. Eddie’s head whipped around, and his mouth stretched into the widest grin at the sight of you. You returned the smile with your own, squeezing through the small, packed crowd until you landed right in his lap.
Eddie’s arms instantly went around your waist, hands settling warm and solid on your lower back. Yours went loosely around his shoulders, your head dipping down to a well-received kiss. His eyes were bloodshot and he was half gone to whatever booze and drugs he’d done already, but even through the haze of inebriation they were settled on you.
“You’re here, I can breathe again,” he said, voice lazy. He was leaned all the way back, head resting on the window behind him, like it was the first time his body had been able to relax in weeks. You lifted your palm to his cheek, rubbing your thumb gently along his lower lip, curved up in that little smirk of his.
You bent your face close to him so that only he could hear you. “Missed you, too, baby boy.”
Eddie leaned over the side of the couch, and when he came back up he was holding his lighter– red, engraved with his name in gold, a gift from you shortly after you had started dating– and a joint. He lifted the joint and you took it in your lips, he grabbed your chin and held your face gently with his guitar-calloused fingers as he lit it for you. You took a long drag, exhaling only after the joint was between Eddie’s lips.
Eddie’s hands went back to your waist, skimming up beneath your shirt and skating across your spine. The whole time he’d been away and you’d been stuck in Los Angeles without him, you’d felt unmoored, but you hadn’t realized the extent of it until you were finally back in his arms, back with your anchor. This was where you were meant to be, and Eddie felt that just as much as you did.
The next night, you stood in the wings with Rod watching the band play. They were all mesmerizing in their own ways, especially, of course, Daisy and Billy singing together, but your eyes never left Eddie. He always exuded confidence, but never more so than when he was onstage, and it was intoxicating to see. He wore that cocky smirk on his face, the one that either made you want to smack him or kiss him and nothing in between, his body moving as one with the bass. He’d never wanted to play the instrument, you knew, but god did he play it like it had been made specifically for him.
Any chance he got, his eyes were on you, even onstage, even in the middle of a song. As the song came to an end, he caught your eye for the hundredth time that night, bringing his hand to his mouth and blowing a kiss into the wings for you. You laughed, pretending to catch it and press it to your heart, making him grin before he had to turn away and start playing the next song.
“That guy’s got it fuckin’ bad for you, huh,” Rod observed, and you snorted.
“Mm, he better,” you nodded.
Eddie made a beeline for you as soon as the show was over, shedding his bass on the way and scooping you up in his arms. You squeezed him tightly, laughing as he picked you up off the floor and spun you around. When he set you back down on the ground, you grabbed his face and kissed him, skin warm from the lights and exertion everywhere you touched, hair sweaty where your fingers tangled with it at the nape of his neck.
“You were enthralling,” you told him once you had pulled away.
“That was my best show so far,” he said, “Had to pull out all the stops because I knew my girl was watching.”
“Well, you really blew me away,” you laughed. “But you blow me away every time, you always will.”
You two skipped the afterparty that night, instead heading straight to Eddie’s hotel room. You needed just each other, alone, away from the hecticness of tour. You wanted Eddie all to yourself, you always did, and Eddie would give you as much of himself as he could at every chance, just as you did for him. That’s why you found him so easy to love; he knew what you needed from him, and was nearly tripping over himself to give it to you.
The next morning, you were in a diner with Eddie catching a quick breakfast before the buses had to leave. Your eyes scanned the newspaper rack in boredom as you waited for your food, and your mouth drew up into a smirk as you spotted something familiar.
You grabbed the tabloid and turned, showing it to Eddie. On the front was a photo of him on stage from the night before, eyes turned towards the wings, hand extended mid-gesture as he blew you a kiss. A smaller photo was superimposed in the corner, catching the two of you walking out of the venue later that night, your arm looped through the crook of his elbow as you walked back to the hotel. The headline was something invasive and completely false about your relationship, but you ignored it.
“They love to talk about us,” you said, rolling your eyes.
“These pictures are pretty good, actually,” Eddie said, grabbing the tabloid to get a better look. “I should get in touch with them and ask if I can have some copies of ‘em.”

I noticed that there is a very little amount of DJATS fanfic so I wrote this in like an hour so it’s pretty short but I might write for it more

Y/N "It all started out very simply; all I did was find the cheapest place that was available for rent."
Warren "Man, that day was wild. It was three weeks after the first tour went up in flames. Me and the guys saw her moving in and decided to help her."
Eddie "I mean, she was hot as hell, so of course we were going to help her."
Karen: "The guys wanted to help her because she was hot, but I just wanted another girlfriend because there was entirely too much testosterone around me and she was awesome."
"What on earth are you guys doing?" Karen asked the boys who were all huddled by the window.
"Shhhh," Graham shushed her, not bothering to look at her.
"Why does she have to be quiet?" It’s not like the hot girl can hear us." Warren asked.
"Yeah, if anything, she’s going to see us and think we are creeps," Eddie added, not looking away from the window despite his statement.
"You are creeps" Karen said joining the boys. Looking out the window to see a girl struggling to carry a car full of boxes inside the house next door, "we should help her." Karen paused, looking at the boys who looked confused, "Come on, it doesn’t look like she has any."
"Yeah we should" warren said "yeah" Eddie agreed. Graham just nodded as they started walking to the front door.
"Dibs!" Warren yelled, taking off running toward the house. "What no fair !" Eddie yelled, chasing after him. Graham and Karen just laughed, slowly running after their friends.
You were on your way back to the car halfway down the steps when a guy with black curly hair ran in front of the steps, making you jump back. "I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to scare you." The guy was cut off when a blonde guy tackled him to the ground. Two more people ran up after him, a brunette boy and a blonde girl.
"I am so sorry about them," she exclaimed.
"Get off of me, you ass!" the black haired boy pushed the blonde off of him quickly jumping to his feet "I’m Warren" he said casually, sticking his hand out for you to shake.
"Y/N," you answer confused, but shake his hand anyway.
"I’m Karen," the blonde woman introduced herself, "and that’s Eddie, and this is Graham." She added, pointing to them individually, "we saw you moving in and figured you could use some help."
"Y’all really don’t have to do that" you say quickly worried they were just asking to be "nice" .
"Oh, no, we want to," Eddie replied, turning around and walking towards her car. Karen and Graham following him.
"I really don’t want to inconvenience you," you said, still trying to fight this and not wanting to burden them.
"Stop being difficult," Warren told you, slinging his arm around your shoulders and flashing you a kind, genuine smile. You could tell because of the way it reached his eye that the brown orbs were shining brightly. "Look, man, I know they didn’t tell you this in the lease agreement thingy, but this place comes with six crazy neighbors and a baby," Warren told you simply.
"Is that so?" You questioned.
"Oh yeah, you are in for a real treat; we’re kind of awesome," he shrugged. "Well, I look forward to getting to know y’all and your awesomeness," you laughed, which was something you hadn’t done in a while, and it felt nice.
"Hey dipshit you gonna come help us or what!" Graham yelled from the car.
"Yeah, yeah, we’re coming. Don’t cream your pants." Warren yelled back, removing the arm from your shoulders (a feeling you oddly missed) and walking to your car. You giggled again, shaking your head, as you joined the group.
This was going to be interesting

hey!! hope you're doing well!!
i know you're reading funny story right now (ahhh) and probably have a long tbr so there's no pressure to read this but i just read the ex vows by jessica joyce and i think you might like it!!!
it reminded me a lot of happy place in that it focused on a found family of friends and how they changed over the years, and it was a second chance romance, and there's a wedding they're prepping for, but it also felt completely like its own new and different thing! i think it's one of the best non-emily henry romances i've ever read and it's the kind of romance that emily henry writes, where it's more emotional and focuses a lot on the character journey.
anyways, since happy place is your favorite emily henry i thought i'd let you know about it!!
Hii! I'm doing good! Thank you so much for the recommendation, I always struggle a lot finding new books to read. I've got a couple of books I'd like to read first, but it sounds so good, I'm so excited!! I just loved the whole vibe of Happy Place, and I love reading about found families, so I'll add it to my tbr.
I'm almost done with Funny Story and on the one hand I can't wait to finish it and tell you about it, but I also never want it to end!
Also I forgot to tell you I finally finished Daisy Jones & The Six!! It's the book that's taken me the longest to read, which is weird cause it's so good! I guess I was really busy but anyways. I loved the format so much, it's so unique, and it also makes it so easy to read! I have a really short attention span, so a book that's basically all dialogue is perfect for me. Some spoilers ahead!
The characters were so funny to me. I went in thinking it was gonna be a found family but then it turns out they all kind of hate each other. They're all so unique and fun to read about. Camila and Karen are so cool, and Warren's the comedic relief, and Pete's just some guy, and Billy's insufferable, and Daisy's also kind of insufferable, but I still loved her. I've seen a lot of people hating on Eddie, and I genuinely don't understand it?? Yes he had a short fuse, but also yes he was justified (at least in my opinion. I hated how Billy kept screwing him over).
I also loved the "where are they now bit", because here I am thinking Pete is dead throughout the whole book, and then it turns out he just had no interest in being part of the interview (which is very cool of him, I too would try to forget about my incredibly dysfunctional found family). The Julia plot twist was so cool, and I couldn't believe Camila was dead all along! I loved her so much. It was so satisfying seeing what their lives look like today, and every ending was very fitting for each character too.
Also loved reading about Karen and Graham, and even though I knew they wouldn't stay together, I was so invested, and I cried my eyes out at their ending. It's so heartbreaking, and you kind of see both POVs, which makes it even sadder.
I think it's just one of these books that leave you staring off into the distance for a while. Just seeing the lives they lead, and knowing that this is how rockstars' lives were actually like feels so special and sad and exciting, and I don't even know where I'm going with this but yeah. 10/10.
Thanks again for the recommendation, and I'd love to hear your thoughts on this book! I'll try to finish Funny Story asap (I'm almost done, for real this time). <3

AEW Dynamite 3/27/24
Katsuyori Shibata vs. Will Ospreay -- Shibata lands a big running boot to Ospreay outside! Ospreay comes back with a forearm off the barricade, then another springboard forearm into the ring. Shibata no-sells a series of elbows from Ospreay, then drops Ospreay to the mat with one hard elbow shot!!!! Damn!! Shibata with a running boot in the corner, repeated elbows to the face, alternating chops to the throat and jabs to the face, then a running dropkick!! Ospreay turns it around with a boot of his own! They trade abdominal stretch attempts, until Shibata catches Ospreay in the Flying Octopus, but Ospreay grabs the rope! Shibata slaps the arm to break his grip on the rope and goes for a German suplex, but Ospreay lands on his feet!! Ospreay lands a German suplex of his own! Shibata rolls to his feet and lands a German suplex!!! Ospreay ducks a boot and lands a back kick to the face! Ospreay springboards off the ropes for a flipping kick, but Shibata catches his foot and locks in an STF!! Ospreay gets to the rope. Shibata with closed fist shots, and while he is being admonished by the ref, Ospreay lands a big open right hand to the face!! Shibata with a big overhand palm strike to the face, then a kick to take Ospreay down! Shibata runs for the PK to the chest, Ospreay ducks, Shibata comes back with a PK to the back!!! Shibata goes for another, but Ospreay blocks it and grabs the foot!!! They trade elbows!!! Shibata takes multiple shots from Ospreay, then staggers Ospreay with just one elbow!!! Shibata with a big round kick to the chest! Ospreay falls back, but kips back up with an enziguri!!!! Shibata ducks a Hidden Blade attempt and locks in a sleeper!!! Shibata dumps Ospreay on his head with a sleeper suplex!! Geez!! Shibata locks the sleeper back in! Ospreay runs toward the ropes and sends Shibata to the apron!! Shibata hangs over the second rope, and Ospreay lands a stomp to the head, then a springboard dropkick!!!! Ospreay lands an OsCutter and covers, but Shibata kicks out at one!!!! Shibata with a huge lariat!!! Cover, but Ospreay kicks out at one!!! They collide with lariats at the same time!! Ospreay lands a hook kick to the face!! Ospreay calls for another OsCutter, but Shibata stops it with a sleeper! But Ospreay drops Shibata with a back suplex to escape!! Ospreay nails Shibata with the Hidden Blade!!! Cover, but Shibata kicks out at two!!! Ospreay lands the Tiger Driver 91, and Shibata just sits right back up!!!!! Aaaahhh!!!! Ospreay lands another vicious Hidden Blade!! Cover!! 1, 2, 3!!
That was great!! It was obvious that Shibata was going to lose this match, with Ospreay facing Danielson in a few weeks and Shibata being the most selfless man in pro wrestling, but that doesn't make me hate watching Ospreay pin Shibata any less. It was an excellent match with a great contrast of styles though. And it did take a hell of a lot to put Shibata away, which is good. This match really shows how much Ospreay has improved since they last wrestled each other. Rating: 4
The Bucks are with Renee. Matt says they had three goals: to retire Sting's old ass, to reinvent the Elite with Okada, and to win back their AEW tag titles. They have just one of those goals left to accomplish.
The Young Bucks vs. Private Party (AEW Tag Team Championship Tournament Match) -- Nick lands a German suplex on Marq on the apron! The Bucks set up for a Meltzer Driver variation from the top on Marq, but Marq reverses into a victory roll on Matt for two, while Isiah holds Nick's foot on the top! Private Party land the jumping rana off the ropes into the neckbreaker combo on Nick, then More Bang for Your Buck on Matt, but Nick breaks up the pin! Matt low blows Isiah, but Marq comes back with a belt to Matt's face and covers! Nick puts Matt's foot on the rope to break the count! Marq misses a 630 attempt off the top! The Bucks land the most awkward BTE trigger ever on Marq, as Nick slips and lands the knee two seconds after Matt. Lmaooooo. This gets the pinfall for the Bucks.
This was a good, solid match without a whole lot of suspense to it. It was entertaining though. I liked the cheating spots, and I loved Nick almost falling on the BTE trigger. Hilarious stuff. Rating: 3.25
Jericho and Hook with Renee. Jericho says Hook far exceeded his expectations in their match last week. He says he is proud of Hook for beating him. He says if Hook wants any advice, he is there for him. Hook says of course, he will take Jericho's advice, he's Chris Jericho. But also, he's Chris Jericho. Hook knows who he is. Jericho: "I know who you are. But more importantly, I know who you can be."
Willow Nightingale vs. Kris Statlander vs. Anna Jay vs. Skye Blue (Number One Contender Match for the TBS Championship) -- Jay lands a superplex on Statlander. Willow with a nice missile dropkick off the top. Willow lands a DVD on Blue on the apron! Willow gets the pinfall on Jay with a gut wrench sit-out powerbomb. Solid match, but nothing special. Rating: 2.75
Mercedes is on commentary. There is a staredown between Julia and Mercedes after the match. Julia holds up her title.
Dustin is with Renee backstage. Butcher challenges him to a match on Rampage.
Toni Storm interview. The interviewer congratulates her on her title reign. She congratulates him on "whatever it is he does around here." She tells him to "crispen his enunciation," and repeat after her. Chin up. Tits out. And watch for the shoe. Lmao, ridiculous but great.
Swerve video promo. He talks about facing Takeshita tonight to determine who is ranked number one. He says their motivations are vastly different. His are for something bigger than him, and that's history. When he finally gets Joe one on one for the world championship, Joe will never forget what he does to him.
Trent Beretta and Orange Cassidy vs. The Kingdom (AEW World Tag Team Championship Tournament Match) -- Bennett piledrives Trent on the apron while Taven distracts the ref! Good double teams by the Kingdom. Spinebuster by Bennett, then Taven goes for the springboard moonsault, but Trent gets his knees up. Taven wipes out Orange with a running knee, and the Kingdom land Proton Pack on Orange for two! Top rope double stomp-assisted Beach Break by Trent and Orange on Bennett for two! Kingdom go for the assisted piledriver, but Cassidy takes Taven off the ropes, and Trent gets a jacknife on Bennett for the pinfall.
Really enjoyed this match. Great tag team offense by both teams. Rating: 3.25
Best Friends go for the hug after the match, but the Bucks interrupt it to stare at them from the top of the ramp for a moment.
Renee with O'Reilly. She asks him about his return to the ring on Collision and about the Undisputed Kingdom celebrating with him afterward. He says there is no way to prepare for getting back in the ring in front of the live crowd, and it felt good to rip the bandaid off. He loves the Undisputed Kingdom, but he isn't having second thoughts about doing this on his own.
Konosuke Takeshita vs. Swerve Strickland -- Takeshita with a beautiful flying elbow. Swerve lands a hanging neckbreaker over the middle rope and covers Takeshita with a knee for two. Swerve lands a backbreaker on the knee and holds on for a suplex, but Takeshita reverses into a beautiful brainbuster! Swerve with a nice snap German suplex. Takeshita lands a huge elbow thag drops Swerve!!!!!! Hot damn!!!!! Takeshita lands a boot in the corner, a senton off the second rope, and neck crank with the legs! Huge elbow again by Takeshita!!!! Swerve handsprings over the ropes, off the apron, and into a rana on floor!! Swerve lands a cross body off the top for only one! Swerve swings, but stops and holds his neck. Takeshita lands a DISGUSTING ELBOW STRIKE!!!! Swerve goes for a rolling flatliner, but Takeshita catches him in a fireman's carry and drops him into facebuster! Takeshita lands a sliding dropkick to send Swerve outside, then a topé con giro! Takeshita goes for the top turnbucke brainbuster, but Swerve lands a headbutt and plants Takeshita off the top with a DDT!!!! Swerve lands a corkscrew senton off the top for two! Takeshita lands a jumping poison rana and Blue Thunder bomb for two! Takeshita with a huge elbow! Swerve lands a big right hand that drops Takeshita! Swerve goes for the rolling flatliner again, but Takeshita stops it with a jumping knee!! But then Swerve finally lands the rolling flatliner for two! Swerve with a double stomp off the top on the apron!!! Swerve comes off the top again, but Takeshita catches him with a powerbomb!! Swerve goes for something, but Takeshita reverses and lands that beautiful wheelbarrow German, then the running knee from hell!!!!!!! Aaaaahhhhhh!!!!! Takeshita covers, and Swerve kicks out at two! Ugh. Swerve reverses a Blue Thunder bomb attempt and sends Takeshita into the turnbuckle! Swerve lands the House Call and a double stomp off the top and covers, but Takeshita kicks out at 2.5!!! Wow!!! Takeshita swings, Swerve ducks, Swerve lands a headbutt, Takeshita lands nice jumping knee!!!! Swerve reverses a pop-up powerbomb attempt into a double stomp!!!!!!! Swerve lands a nasty looking JML Driver for the pinfall!!!
Oh my god, that was excellent!!! Takeshita was a complete rockstar, what's new!!!! Would have loved to see him get the win here. At least, would have loved to NOT see Swerve kick out of that nasty knee strike. But the result was obvious, and Takeshita did come out looking fine, kicking out of that House Call/Swerve Stomp combo. Fantastic match. Rating: 4.25
Renee interviews Joe backstage after the match. Joe says he will make sure that when Swerve signs on the dotted line for their title match, he understands what he is asking for. Swerve thinks he is ready? Joe says no, he's not that man. Heck yeah!!!!!

WARNINGS: profanities, pining lol
SYNOPSIS: Warren's got it bad for Camila's childhood best friend. word count: 2,008
NOTES: Written for this request!
You dragged your paintbrush across the canvas, a trail of plum purple in its wake. You were sitting on your deck, the sky a cloudless blue, the morning filled with birdsong and a soft breeze only making itself known through the occasional soft rustle of your hair and clothes. June was a ripe peach in your hands, pink, perfect, fleeting.
“What are you painting today, Picasso?” Warren’s clear voice rang out through the morning air. He was standing on the deck of his own house next door, forearms resting lazily on the railing as he gazed over at you. You glanced up from your work to send a smile his way.
“Shocked to see you up this early,” you called by way of greeting. “If you wanna see what I’m painting, come over and look.”
At your words, he disappeared back into the house, and you knew that in a minute he would be opening the sliding door and stepping out onto your own deck. You did this almost every day, ever since you followed your childhood best friend Camila across the country, moving into the house next to hers and her boyfriend’s band in Laurel Canyon.
In the months since you arrived, you’ve gotten incredibly close with all of Camila’s housemates. Whenever you weren’t doing a shift for your part-time job at a coffee shop or at your own place working on your art, you were at their house. You and Camila spent a lot of time one-on-one, getting together for wine or lunch or anything else while the band was working, but the band loved you so much that you found yourself hanging out with them almost even more than with her, especially since Warren started inviting you to their recording sessions down at the studio.
You had become so absorbed in your painting that you didn’t realize Warren had arrived on your deck until his hands were on the back of your chair and he was leaning over your shoulder to get a good look at the canvas.
“Oh, it’s our street at night,” he observed, taking in the deep purples and night blues that the familiar street was rendered in. “It’s beautiful. Looks like a place I’d wanna be.”
You rolled your eyes. “It already is a place you wanna be, Warren. You live there.”
Though you couldn’t see it, Warren grinned, swooping down to press a kiss to your cheek. “I only wanna be here so much ‘cause it’s where you are, mama.”
You scoffed, sending a rueful smile his way as he sat in the chair next to yours. He pulled a joint out of his pocket, lit it, and offered it. You took it between your lips and inhaled before sending it back his way. For a while, the two of you sat in a comfortable silence, Warren merely observing you as you painted. He had told you once, the two of you high as kites while hanging out late one night, that he loved to watch you paint. He said watching you paint was as intricate a thing as watching a musician play their instrument, that it was captivating. You had hung onto his words even through the drug-induced haze, had thought about them for weeks on end.
“You’ll come over for dinner tonight, right?” he asked after a while. “Camila saw me leaving to come over here and made me promise to get you to come.”
“Man, I don’t even buy groceries over here anymore ‘cause I’m always just eating at yours,” you laughed. “Course I’ll come. Can’t beat the company.”
“Good,” he said, standing. “I gotta get back to the house; shockingly, I actually have responsibilities to see to today.”
“Oh, well color me impressed,” you responded, happily accepting his parting kiss on the cheek.
Eddie watched, amused, as Warren got up for the dozenth time in the last half hour, drifting back over to the windows and peering outside, toward your house. Dinner was set for twenty minutes from now, and you were expected to come. Though some, clearly, were expecting you more than others.
“Man, can you chill the fuck out? You’re making me antsy,” he said, after watching Warren pace the room for a few minutes while still pretending to look casual.
“I am chill! I’m totally chill!” Warren said, having the gall to look incensed at his best friend’s words.
Eddie leveled him with an unimpressed look. “Do you think you’ll finally just tell her how you feel so you can stop being such a fuckin’ freak every time she comes over?”
Warren sighed, crossing his arms over his chest and leaning against the wall. “Don’t you think if she was into me she would’ve said something by now? I’m not going to embarrass myself or ruin our friendship. I know when I’m gonna strike out.”
“Clearly you don’t, idiot,” Eddie retorted. “First of all, she could say the same about you because you haven’t made any moves either, man. All of what you just said means nothing.”
“She’s definitely into you, anyway,” Graham said, joining the conversation as he walked into the room.
“What makes you think that?” Warren asked, ignoring Eddie’s comments, which were clearly too logical for him.
“Why else do you think she hangs around here so often? I mean, don’t get me wrong, we’re all friends, but everyone knows it's different with you two. Most of the time she’s here for you,” Graham explained.
“Yeah, and don’t forget that she comes to our recording sessions because you asked her to,” Eddie chimed in, a smirk growing on his face as Warren’s cheeks grew redder. He didn’t have the chance to answer before someone knocked on the door.
“You wanna go get that?” Eddie asked, raising a teasing eyebrow.
Warren made his way to the door, shaking his head as if to physically rid himself of the conversation that had just happened. He had never felt the way he did about you before, not about any woman he had ever met. When you first met, things had been flirty between you, at least more flirty than you were with any of the other guys, and he almost plucked up the courage to ask you out in the first week of knowing you. But then the two of you got high together one night, and you got him talking about his hopes for the band, and you told him about all of your ambitions when it comes to your art, and he could feel himself falling in love a little. He had real, undeniable feelings for you, and that made it all too scary. So, he’d convinced himself that there was no way you could have feelings for him too, because thinking he had no chance with you was easier, more comfortable, than pining after you.
He put a valiant effort into feigning nonchalance when he opened the door, all of these thoughts still a monsoon in his mind. You stood on the other side of the threshold, a bottle of wine in one hand and a covered plate of chocolate chip cookies in the other.
“I baked ‘em!” you said proudly, holding up the plate and smiling widely at him. For a minute, his mind blanked, and all he could think about was the way your eyes sparkled in the porchlight, the way your dress fell perfectly on your figure. You knocked him dead every time he set eyes on you. Snapping out of it, he unburdened you of the bottle of wine and the cookies, widening his arms so he could take you in a hug.
“Are they cookies? Or are they cookies,” he asked, wiggling his eyebrows suggestively.
You scoffed, rolling your eyes and smacking him playfully on the shoulder. “They’re just cookies, Rojas. This is a family dinner, not a late night recording session.”
“Family dinner?”
“Yeah,” you shrugged as you walked through the door. “This is a family, isn’t it?”
“Guess it is,” he responded, because you were right and because he would agree with any statement you made ever for the rest of your lives.
“Honey, you made it!” Camila shouted, coming over to hug you as you walked in. You greeted her warmly, and then did the same for everyone else standing around the kitchen helping to make dinner (or, really, getting in the way of Camila and Graham, who were the only ones actually cooking).
Dinner was, as usual, the highlight of Warren’s day. After listening to Billy get grouchy and boss everyone around in the studio all day, getting to come home and actually unwind was a godsend. Plus, he got to see you, warm and pliant with wine and good food and good company. You were so effortlessly funny and charismatic, easily commanding the attention of the room with your stories and jokes without ever trying to. He could listen to you talk for the rest of his life. He could stand to do a lot of things with you for the rest of his life.
After dinner, the group of you took the cookies you made and moved to the living room, settling in to watch a movie. You snuggled with Warren under a blanket on the loveseat, Eddie, Karen, Graham, and Camila squished into the old couch. Billy had retired to his room prior to the movie, citing that he needed to get some writing done. Graham had already fallen asleep, and Karen and Eddie were providing a running commentary of how bad the movie was.
Warren nudged your side, and when you turned to look at him, he took a joint out of his pocket and tilted his head toward the door to the deck, a silent question. You nodded and he stood, you following close behind after wrapping the blanket around your shoulders. You didn’t see the exaggerated wink Eddie shot Warren’s way as you left the room, or the way Warren mimed slitting his throat in response, sending Eddie into a fit of laughter that he desperately tried to stifle.
Outside, you settled into your usual chair, Warren pulling one up close to you before sitting down. You turned your body towards him, leaning your head on the back of the chair and gazing at him affectionately as he lit up the joint, and, as usual, offered it to you before himself. You took a hit before handing it back to him, settling back into your position of observing him as the joint went to his own mouth.
“What are you lookin’ at, mama?” he asked, a mixture of curiosity and amusement gracing his face.
You hummed, shrugging your shoulders noncommittally. “You should let me paint you sometime.”
“Paint me? Why?” he asked, brows raising.
“Because you’re pretty,” you said bluntly, Warren’s heart stumbled over itself. “You’d make a good muse.”
Warren laughed, trying to steady himself. “You think I’m pretty?”
You leaned toward him a bit more, a small, private smile on your face. “Of course I do, Warren. I’m sure dozens of other people have told you as much.”
“Not like this, no,” he said, shaking his head with a smile. “And it wouldn’t mean anything coming from any but you, anyway.” Your brows raised, mouth dropping into a small, understanding ‘o’. Then you were smiling at him again, the corners of your eyes crinkling in a way that made his heart overflow.
“Are you finally going to kiss me now?” you asked, and Warren choked, smoke emitting from his nose and mouth.
“I- uh, yeah. Yeah, I am,” he stammered, shaking his head as vigorously as he could in his buzzed state.
“Good,” you said, leaning over the arm of your chair. Warren crossed the rest of the distance himself, connecting his lips to yours. You led the kiss, firm and gentle, your thumb stroking reassuringly against his cheek.
“So, about me painting you,” you said breathlessly once you pulled away.
“Anything for you.I’d be honored to be your muse,” he grinned.

After that day, they were always at my house, or I was at theirs.

You just finished making yourself dinner when you heard the door open. It had become a normal occurrence for one of the guys or Karen (mostly Warren) to come over and just let themselves in, so you had stopped locking it before the time you went to bed. This time, it was all of them walking to the kitchen with tired looks on their faces. You looked at them with a confused face. Karen and Graham joined you at the table; Karen was sitting beside you, and Graham just laid his head on the table. Karen’s head lay in between his shoulder blades. Warren sat on the other side of you, resting his head on your shoulder, as Eddie made himself a plate before coming to join you. "What happened to you guys?" You asked softly to not startle them.

"That thing won't bloody shut up," Karen said, her voice muffled by Graham's back.

"She's not a thing," Graham quipped, raising his head slightly. Julia has been crying. For two days, pretty much nonstop," he finished laying his head back down.

"Yeah, and Cami's been busy, so I just barely ate anything in two days," Eddie said through a mouthful of food.

Warren mumbled something you couldn't quite make out. You looked down at him, giving him a questioning look. "I'm hungry," he said, giving you puppy dog eyes. You just smiled at him, offering him a fry. a bit surprised when he just bit into it instead of taking it from your hands, you just laughed at his antics, rolling your eyes, but continued to feed fries now and again.

"Did you guys just leave Cam over there by herself?" you questioned, feeling bad for the new mom.

"Cam's mom is in town, which might be worse than the baby," Karen told you, getting up to make herself a plate.

"Yeah, all she does is talk about how much Billy sucks," Warren said as you gave him another fry. He mumbled a quiet thank you before nestling further into your shoulder.

"I actually kind of like that part," Eddie states, shrugging, and you all just laughed at Eddie's obvious distaste for Billy.

"Hey, that's still my brother," Graham said, sitting up to eat the food Karen had made him.
"Is this going to become a regular thing now you guys just eating all my food?" you said, jokingly trying to change the subject away from Billy. holding your hand out to give Warren another fry

"You think we, four adults in a dying rock band, can cook for ourselves?" Karen asked you, rolling her eyes. When Graham put two fries in his mouth to look like a walrus, Eddie laughed his ass off. Karen just gave you a look as if to say, "See what I mean?"

You just laughed along with them and were surprised when you didn't hear Warren laughing as well. Looking down at him, you see him fast asleep with a half-eaten french fry hanging out of his mouth. You gently took the french fry out of his mouth, moving some hair out of his eyes, smiling when he moved his head further into your shoulder, mumbling something about "five more minutes," and you just laughed harder at this, the others giving you a strange look stopping as you heard the door open again.

Graham whipped his head around with the fries still hanging out of his mouth. Y'all looked at the entryway to the kitchen, expecting to be dead within the next few seconds, but too tired to care.

"who’s there?"  Eddie yelled, making all of you shush at Eddie's loud voice, but not before it woke Warren up; his head shot up.

"What's happening?" he asked a little too loudly. The group shushed him as well. You all waited to see if you could hear anything else, wondering if you all just shared a group dilution.

"Boo!" Cami yelled, jumping out from behind the door frame, making you all scream, Karen, threw fries at her off of instinct. Cam just burst out laughing as you all yelled at her for as

Warren put it, "scaring the shit out of you." Cam just kept laughing, taking a seat beside Eddie, and stealing a fry from his plate.

"Oh my god, I love food that's not pre-mashed," she said, her eyes rolling back.

"Where is Julia?" You asked

"I finally got her to go to sleep and told my mom I was going to the store." "I just needed to get away from her constantly, reminding me how awful my husband is," Camila sighed stinking in her seat. Y'all just gave her sympathetic smiles.

except for Warren, of course, who was completely oblivious to the air in the room. "Well, why’d you have to come to wake me up?" he complained. Karen rolled her eyes as you hit him in the back of the head gently. "Ow, not cool man," Warren exclaimed, stealing the last few fries from your plate out of spite. You laughed at him again, standing up to put your plate in the sink.

You started washing the dishes and cleaning up, enjoying the sound of the five just talking and laughing together. As you were drying the dishes, the group decided to head back to their home, saying their goodbyes.

"I'll catch up with you guys in a few," Warren told the group as they began to walk out of the house, and then joined you in drying the dishes.
"You really don't have to do that, Warren," you told him, trying to snatch the plate out of his hands.

"No, no, I helped eat the food. The least I can do is help you dry them," he told you as he raised the plate unintentionally above your head, towering over you. Your face heating up at your closeness, Warren cleared his throat, taking a few steps back to continue drying the dish.

As you finished drying the dishes, you kept trying to come up with a reason for him to stay longer.

"Do you watch a movie?" Warren's voice pulled you out of your thoughts as you put the last dish away. He was leaning on the kitchen table, a nervous yet hopeful smile resting on his lips.
"Umm, yeah," you paused. "I'd love to," you smiled back.

You were half expecting him to fall asleep halfway through the movie, but he was wide awake, and you had been ignoring the movie, opting to talk instead.

Warren sat on the couch facing the TV with his head turned to you. You were facing him with his legs tucked under you.

"Where do you see yourself in five years?" Warren asked you, breaking the small silence that had settled over the two of you.

"What are we doing in a job interview?" you laughed, covering your mouth with your hand.

"Come on, just answer the question," he told you, nudging your shoulder with his.

"I don’t know--" you sighed, "I guess I wanna be more than a personal assistant; I wanna be designing in some way, a stylist or something, you know, whatever. I haven’t thought too much about it too much," you said, laughing nervously and fidgeting with your hands.

"Don’t be so modest, I can see it now, Y/N Y/L/N famous stylist and designer," Warren said, moving his hands up and out in a jazz hands-like gesture, his signature bright smile proudly on his face.

You had grown to love his smile. The smile lines around his mouth, how his eyes crinkled slightly, and the way that it would reach his eyes, making them light up and shine with emotion You could tell a lot about how Warren was feeling based on his eyes. So much so that you had wondered if everyone's eye conveyed so much emotion that you just hadn't cared enough to notice. As you were thinking this, you realized how long you had been staring at him. clearing your throat and moving your gaze to the TV for a second. Warren frowned at this, bringing his hand up to your chin and gently moving your gaze back to his.

"Where do you see yourself in five years?" you asked him, trying to mimic the same importance he did in his earlier question.

"I see myself on a world tour with a ton of albums, fans screaming our names every night, and you as our stylist, of course, being world-famous you know you and me," he answered, moving his arms extensively as he spoke. You giggled at his cute way of speaking. Everything this man did had a way of making you smitten.

"You think we'll still be friends in five years?" you asked gently, afraid of his answer.

"Of course you can't get rid of me that easily," he said, grabbing your hand from your lap. "It's you and me. Y/N and Warren, the dynamic duo Butch Cassidy and the sunshine kids Sonny and Cher,"

"Okay, okay," you cut him off laughing, "I get it; it's you and me," you smiled, holding your pinky out for him, his quickly wrapping around your own.

"You and me," Warren affirmed one last time before you both turned your attention back to the TV, bright smiles still present on your faces.

Warren
"Man, I was so in love with her, and she was so oblivious," he said, running a hand down his face and chuckling.

You're On Your Own, Kid
Tumblr media
Pairings: Daisy Jones + Billy Dunne
Summary: Daisy’s song You’re on Your Own, Kid reflects on her time in the 70s. She gets to perform it at their reunion concert in 2000.
Masterlist | Albums | Midnights Album
Tumblr media
From sprinkler splashes to fireplace ashes, I gave my blood, sweat, and tears for this. I hosted parties and starved my body. Like I'd be saved by a perfect kiss.
Daisy Jones & the Six. Their first concert in over 20 years. And it was all thanks to Billy Dunne’s daughter, Julia. When her documentary was released, the entire world went crazy – demanding a reunion album.
Well, they did promise Camila a song.
Daisy was standing backstage as her mic pack was sorted on her back, as her daughter looked at the available makeup palettes in front of her.
“Please don’t dig your fingers into those, little bird,” Daisy gently reached over and stopped her little girl from digging her fingers into the glitter eyeshadow palette.
Daisy’s little girl didn’t say anything in reply, she just tilts her head up to see her mother. And giggles, jumping up and down in her seat.
Once her mic pack was secured, the attendant left her alone – Daisy shouted a ‘thank you’ as she was left alone with her little girl.
“Do you want to go find Auntie Karen?” Daisy asked. Her little girl loved the keyboardist. She always demanded to speak to Karen on the phone after her ballet lesson. It started accidentally when Karen called Daisy to see how her first lesson went and then it spiralled from there.
Her little bird nodded happily, jumped out of the chair and ran off. “Auntie Karen! Auntie Karen!” Falling from her mouth repeatedly, her eyes bouncing from person to person who walked past.
But eventually, Karen was found, and she was now occupied, asking if she could show Karen the new song she learnt. It was Here Comes the Sun by The Beatles, but the way she was talking about it – it was like she was the only person who knew about the song.
Daisy sat before the table and started fiddling with her hair and makeup.
And then she felt a presence over her shoulder, without looking up in the mirror, she knew exactly who it was.
“Get that camera out of my face,” she jokes, looking over her shoulder. And there was not so little Julia Dunne, with her camera recording everything that was going on backstage.
“Hi, Daisy!” She smiled. Even to this day, Julia still adores Daisy. She had every album, every single, any form of merchandise she could get her hands on. As well as Daisy’s first novel.
Daisy rolled her eyes but squished Julia’s cheeks the way she did when Julia was a child.
“Are you ready?” Billy asked as he walked over. He pressed a kiss to the top of his daughter’s head, and then to Daisy’s temple. “Dais?”
Daisy let out a soft sigh and leaned back into Billy. The two lead singers of Daisy Jones & the Six looked at each other in the mirror. It had been over 20 years since they last saw each other, and that final concert broke the band. When Daisy told Billy to go after his wife.
“Let’s do this.”
Tumblr media
“What song are we doing next, Daisy?” Billy asked from his microphone.
Daisy looked over at Billy then at Graham and then back to Billy. “I don’t know
 You didn’t tell me.”
The lead guitarist started playing the opening chords to You’re on Your Own Kid, from Daisy’s most recent solo album. She looked over her shoulder to Warren sitting behind his drum set nodding his head at her.
“Summer went away. Still, the yearning stays, I play it cool with the best of them. I wait patiently, he’s gonna notice me. It’s okay, we’re the best of friends. Anyway,” Daisy began, remembering the first boy she ever had a crush on. The one that never felt the same.
“I hear it in your voice, you’re smoking with your boys. I touch my phone as if it’s your face, I didn’t choose this town. I dream of getting out, there’s just one who could make me stay, all my days,” for a split second Daisy thought of her parents – especially her mother who had always turned her nose down at the life Daisy chose for herself.
Billy looks over at Daisy, she never told anyone about her childhood or anything much before she joined them. If anything, Karen may know the most, but not by much.
“From sprinkler splashes to fireplace ashes, I waited ages to see you there. I search the party for better bodies, just to learn that you never cared,” Daisy sang, looking around at the packed stadium who were singing along. “You’re on your own, kid. You always have been.”
Karen looked up from her keyboard, and over at Daisy – things she had mentioned in passing over the years.
“I see the great escape, so long Daisy May,” Daisy waves her fingers. “I picked the petals; he loves me not. Something different bloomed, writing in my room. I play my songs in the parking lot, I’ll run away.”
“From sprinkler splashes to fireplace ashes, I called a taxi to take me there. I search the party of better bodies, just to learn that my dreams aren’t rare,” Daisy repeats her chorus, putting her heart into it. “You’re on your own, kid. You always have been.”
Daisy waited as the bridge built, staring up at the sky. Thinking of her daughter’s father, the only man (other than Billy) she completely loved. Her fiancĂ©e. Her dead fiancĂ©e. She shook her head a little to stop the tears that had been growing, to stop them from rolling down her cheeks. “From sprinkler splashes to fireplace ashes, I gave my blood, sweat and tears for this. I hosted parties and starved my body. Like I’d be saved by a perfect kiss.”
Billy looked over at Daisy, remembering her overdose, as she lay in his arms half-dead. How skinny she got whilst they wrote Aurora. “The jokes weren’t funny, I took the money, my friends from home don’t know what to say. I looked around in a blood-soaked gown, and I saw something they can’t take away.”
“’Cause there were pages turned with the bridges burned, everything you lose is a step you take. So, make the friendship bracelets, take the moment and taste it, you’ve got no reason to be afraid,” Daisy looked out at the crowd, fans who had stuck with her from the beginning, throughout her time in rehab and when she hid away from the public eye for 3 years to raise her daughter. “You’re on your own, kid. Yeah, you can face this. You’re on your own, kid. You always have been.”
