Psychology Today’s conversion therapy problem
“In 1992, religiously-motivated conversion therapist Joseph Nicolosi founded the National Association for Research and Therapy of Homosexuality. NARTH provided a ‘clinical’ hub for the ex-gay movement, and was a melting pot of pseudoscience ...
“In 2014, after realizing they’d fundamentally (eh, get it?) failed to convince the public that they were anything other than ardent homophobes, and that science had long since moved on to realized that being gay is not only non-pathological, but a natural part of human diversity, NARTH rebranded under the Association for Therapeutic Choice and Scientific Integrity. Like so much of the anti-LGBT, pronatalist far-right, ACTSI refocused on transgender people as part of a political strategy shift to ‘separating the T from LGBT’ ...
“One of the pivotal strategies during the early days of NARTH, was to focus on the specific language of ‘same-sex attraction’ ... Conversion Therapists wanted to inculcate the public with the idea that SSA was a test of one’s moral or religious convictions, but not a part of a person’s innate sexuality ...
"A cursory search of Google’s index of the site shows an alarmingly high rate of results for SSA ... [For mentions of] ‘sexual brokenness’, a term that comes from evangelical Christianity to describe having normal sexual feelings, you get 1,300 results, the overwhelming majority of which are in the United States. Among these results includes Joseph Nicolosi’s son. David Pickup, an LMFT who deals exclusively in the empirically disproven notion that ‘same sex attraction’ is the result of trauma and sexual abuse, is also listed on Psychology Today. Pickup has the distinction of being one of the more prolific purveyors of alleged ‘expert’ testimony on behalf of states like Florida and his home state of Texas.
“Perhaps just as disturbingly, it is host to a range of ‘Gender Exploratory Therapists’ like Lisa Marchiano, the original author of ‘Outbreak: On Transgender Teens and Psychic Epidemics’, an absolute nonsense paper which argues that the apparent rise in transgender youth is due to what Jungian psychoanalysts refer to as the ‘collective unconscious’ after too much LSD.”

Paul Arthur Joseph Dimick, New Hampshire inmate 87452, born 1991, incarceration intake in 2018 at age 27, (this time around) scheduled for full discharge on 08/18/2117 (Sentenced 30 years to life, for computation purposes ‘life’ means 100 years.)
Murder
Paul Dimick, the Manchester murderer responsible for an hours-long Central High School lockdown in 2018, said Monday that his victim was like a brother to him and “I’ll love you every minute that I rot away.”
That will be 30 years’ worth, according to the prison sentence that Dimick, 28, received.
Judge Diane Nicolosi sentenced Dimick in Hillsborough County Superior Court, a formality since he pleaded guilty to the second-degree murder of Justin “Drizzy” Lee. The sentence of 30 years to life was part of the plea bargain.
Nicolosi issued the sentence after two of Lee’s relatives castigated Dimick in their victim-impact statements.
At one point, both Dimick and Lee lived with Lee’s grandmother, who would purchase them food because she didn’t want them to go hungry, said Lee’s sister, Kim Allan.
“You took advantage of my grandmother, then you turned around and killed her grandson,” Allan said. The grandmother died about seven weeks after Lee’s murder.
The relatives portrayed a man skilled at drawing, writing poetry and telling jokes poorly. He liked to ride dirt bikes. And he fathered a child.
But, like Dimick, he was addicted to drugs. Both were also members of the Gangster Disciples gang.
Lee’s stepmother, Jodi Dukette, said the family had always hoped that Lee would turn his life around and leave the world of drugs and crime.
“Paul Dimick has taken that chance away,” she said.
The shooting death took place late on the morning of Friday, Sept. 7, 2018, the third day Manchester students were back to school.
Police and school officials put Central High School into “secure campus” status, which prevented anyone from arriving or leaving the campus.
Some movement was allowed inside the school, but students were confined to their classrooms after the school day ended at 2:50 p.m. Police let students leave about 10 p.m.
Principal John Vaccarezza said students handled the situation very well, calming one another and forming a bond that lasted throughout the year.
“When you’re with people for that amount of time, in some ways you get close to people that you wouldn’t have,” he said. It was a learning experience for school officials, who have incorporated lessons from the incident into their safety drills.
“We got a real frame of reference about how things can play out,” Vaccarezza said.
Dimick shot Lee after his friend pilfered some electronics and clothes from the apartment hallway landing where Dimick was sleeping. According to previous testimony, he told his girlfriend he planned to kill Lee and would end up in prison for the rest of his life.
One witness told police he saw Dimick put a gun to Lee’s head and say “Yo. You want to rob me?” He then shot Lee underneath the armpit.
Dimick’s public defender said Dimick was exposed to crack cocaine in his mother’s womb and lead paint in his home. A doctor once recorded unexplained burn marks on his body.
He saw his parents fight and once witnessed his father getting pistol-whipped.
At times, his father would give him $100 just to leave the apartment for a day. The family could not afford the drugs needed to help Dimick at school, where he suffered taunts and humiliation, his lawyer said.
He started smoking marijuana at 10, and using hard drugs at 13. “Paul came to find out that using drugs was the only thing he was good at,” said public defender Sarah Amorin.
When a mental health counselor told Dimick recently that he was not developmentally disabled, Dimick refused to believe it, Amorin said.
Amorin said Dimick and Lee had a brotherly bond, and that was part of the reason for Dimick’s strong reaction to the theft.
“We just needed to get away from the streets,” Dimick wrote in a poem to Lee that he read during the sentencing hearing.
The sentence included a recommendation that Dimick be incarcerated out of state, preferably Maine or Vermont. Prosecutors would not discuss the reason for the request.
He waived the ability to seek a sentence reduction and to earn reductions for fulfilling education or other goals. He received a suspended sentence for disposing of the gun used to shoot Lee.

This Day in X-Project - March 10
Topaz's Birthday
PHASE 2
2015: Clint texts Matt about an interesting development with the Hubble telescope. Megan texts Topaz about a tiny weird space in the second floor hallway of the mansion. Matt makes a journal entry about being bored to tears. Warren texts Matt a generous offer of hookers and blow. Scott meets Jean as she is unpacking her room and is haunted by the similarities - and differences.
2016: Jessica posts her nuggets of wisdom, but not everyone takes the advice well. Alison and Xavin talk about the mansion and fitting in. Arthur emails the members of X-Factor Investigations (sans Quentin and Jessica) to talk about her posts on the journals and suggest someone talk to her. Alex asks for a length of rope so he can tie his broken foot onto a skateboard, Kyle and Arthur oblige and plans are hatched.
2017: Laurie reflects she needs to sleep less as she missed everything that happened in the last week. Jubilee texts Amanda to make sure she’s okay. Amanda gives Topaz a second-hand car for her birthday and Topaz is boggled. Angelo is glad about the death of Joseph Nicolosi who pioneered gay conversion therapy.
2018: Jean-Paul congratulates Topaz with her birthday. Topaz posts drunkenly about her bar crawl. Maya wishes Topaz a happy birthday as well. Topaz visits Gabriel's bar during the Great 21st Birthday Bender. It's probably the most productive conversation Topaz has had in a month. After Topaz' birthday binge, the Sefton siblings make sure she gets tucked into bed, safe and sound.
2019:
2020: Topaz closes the library and hands out dye packs in honour of Holi and her birthday; Felicia posts a picture of her state of readiness for the holiday; Nica praises Bobby’s ingenuity in setting up dye booby traps; Wanda apologises for using her powers to reverse explode a dye pack; Bobby announces he’s open for business in making ice balls dye delivery; Megan is inspired by the colours and is painting; the Stepford sisters join in on the fun; Marie-Ange offers sanctuary at the rate of one coffee drink or pastry item per person; Topaz congratulates whoever rigged her door; Betsy confesses to protecting her hair by using her powers to discourage attacks.
2021: X-Men Mission: Agents of SHIELD: Garrison gets a call from Phil Coulson, asking for help from the X-Men to retrieve a captured Captain America; Garrison posts an urgent call for X-Men; the group flies to a spot near the A.I.M. base where Coulson meets them for a briefing; the X-Men split into two teams - Marvel Girl, Spectrum and Daredevil go and locate Captain America with Agent Simmons on comms, while Dominion, Psylocke and Shadowcat shut down the security systems; both groups encounter trouble in the form of AIM guards and robots, but manage to get to the hanger, with Captain America and Agents May and Fitz; before they can escape, MODOK appears to cut them off; a gap is made in MODOK’s personal shielding to allow the telepaths to attack his mind; MODOK escapes and the X-Men depart ahead of the main SHIELD team. Nica posts about the mission in her journal, sparking a word definition meme.
2022: Kevin encounters Darcy working very late and they both have points about self care. Pyotr posts about updating the X-Men uniforms so they’re not so grim.
2023: A trip into District X has Arthur playing passenger to Madin's very interesting driving while Match swears like a sailor.

On this day in 1911, 146 people lost their lives in the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory fire.
These people were mostly women and many were girls, who had been incredibly brave and faced public violence and police brutality when they had led strikes in order to unionize because they knew how dangerous the working conditions were, but were forced to return to work to support themselves and their families after an impressive strike that did lead to safer conditions to many others in the textile industry.
Minutes before their Saturday Shift would have ended, a fire started on the men's floor below them as a result of an incident with a cigar(ette) and the fiber-dense environment. These men contacted the owners two floors above them, so they and the bosses made it out, but in their worry they forgot to warn the floor in between.
These poor people had less of a chance of escape because in their greed the bosses feared that the women might steal thread, so they locked one of the doors and inspected purses every day. The tiny overcrowded elevators couldn't carry many people, and some either jumped or were pushed down the elevator shaft as the panic spread and the unsafe fire escape fell away from the building as people tried to climb down to safety. By the end of it, bodies were piled high beneath the widows and not all were recognizable.
This tragedy could have been avoided, but greed got in the way. Building codes have changed in America to prevent this from happening again, but even today people working in the fashion industry are exploited around the world. Please, remember those who died and consider why we still must change things for the better today.

Michael Brown Experiences Faux Persecution.
Michael Brown has written another persecution piece for Charisma. What’s got him so upset? Amazon has stopped selling all books written by Joseph Nicolosi. For those who don’t know the name, Nicolosi is the founding father of conversion therapy. He was the founder and president of the National Association for Research and Therapy of Homosexuality. TW for suicide, homophobia, conversion therapy
RELATED NEWS: Founder of gay conversion therapy group dies, gets dragged on Twitter
“A pioneer of the so-called “reparative therapy” movement has died.Joseph Nicolosi, a psychologist and co-founder of the National Association for Research and Therapy of Homosexuality (NARTH) who promoted the idea that “you don’t have to be gay,” passed away Wednesday from complications of the flu. He was 70.
Nicolosi’s practice has been widely discredited by numerous medical boards, and many states have passed laws banning the practice. Many also consider it to be actively harmful to gay and lesbian youth. In 2012, 16-year-old Ryan Kendall documented how the actions of Nicolosi nearly drove him to suicide.
“[My] weekly sessions with [Nicolosi] set me on a devastating, decade-long course of self-destruction, as each session made me sink deeper into depression and drove me to the brink of suicide,” Kendall wrote.
In part because of Kendall’s testimony, California became the first state to ban the practice. Many others states and municipalities followed suit.
