picture all the times that john was away and dean was left to tend to a sick, needing sam— him only being 12 himself, sam 8. swiping soup from the nearby gas station, boiling water for a bath. he tries his best to soothe sam without touching him much, because if he gets sick, nobody will be able to take care of his little brother. he needs to stay in health, shield sammy from everything. he blames himself every time sam falls ill, swears it’s because of the one time he didn’t get on his ass about zipping up his jacket a few months ago. john comes home, finds sam groaning for dean. more to deal with. sickness is money. he lays in on dean for letting this happen. he’s your responsibility, dean. when im not here, he’s your responsibility.

Also! It's very interesting to me that now that they're older it's Sam who caves to John's apologies and wants to move on and say he did his best and it's Dean who listens to John's (half-assed) apology but doesn't reassure him, and when John says he pictured Dean getting out of life and getting himself a family he is the one who (gently) rebukes him, he has a family

John drives with his kids pressed up against his side, one arm resting over them. Sammy sleeps with his cheek on Dean’s thigh, and Dean watches the headlights coming toward them.

John rolls down the window without a word, and Dean instinctively slips a hand into the pocket of his dad’s jeans, fishing out the pack of cigarettes.

He lights one for him, pretty pink lips wrapped around the filter, and the first pull of smoke makes him cough a little.

Sammy whines in his sleep, and John soothes him with a hand in his hair while Dean rests the cigarette between his parted lips. The proud smile on his father’s face is the last thing he sees before a cloud of smoke fills the car.

Actually the reason why we never saw Bobby and John interact is because Bobby would’ve beat the shit out of John on the spot.

I love early seasons supernatural aesthetics so much. The isolated highways, funky motel rooms, neon signs, shiny guns and shiny cars, leather jackets, old books, through a film camera lens in seasons one and two, makes for such a specific atmosphere. It transfers the isolation Sam and Dean experience so well, cramped into the seats of a 67’ Chevy impala, claustrophobically un-alone while individually lonely. The nasty, sometimes created with horrible special effects, monsters really do look monstrous, unsettling more than outright terrifying. With yellow eyes, in dirty clothes, glitching and pale. The whole colour palette is grey-ish and cold, you almost feel the contrasted darkness, the distrust, the nagging belief that something wicked may be hiding behind every corner, behind every corner of your own self as well. Idk. The blood looks dark, the sulfur looks sickeningly yellow, the skin looks unnaturally pale. It’s all so horror-coded, and gives such an atmosphere of instability in your own existence in the world, which aligns with the themes of the seasons. This atmosphere, to me, makes it a better horror show than if it had had better special effects and scarier monsters. Because the horrifying is in the daily existence, in how you are, rather than what you face.

If Dean Winchester was raised to not feel shame about being the goddamn nerd that he is he would 100% be a graphic t-shirt + flannel/layering piece type of guy. The graphics tees would include, but would not be limited to, Star Trek, Star Wars, Scooby Doo, dragon ball Z, and of course 70’s rock bands. He would simply not care about how stupid he looked. Cas would find it endlessly charming, unfortunately. No criticism will be taken at this time, thank you
